The Weekend Team News

Arsene Wenger rules out Mathieu Debuchy for three months. Kieran Trippier is expected to shake off a hamstring problem for Burnley. Erik Pieters remains a doubt for Stoke, James McArthur has been passed fit for Palace, whilst Raheem Sterling is set to return for Liverpool this weekend.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Mathieu Debuchy will be sidelined for up to three months after undergoing surgery on his dislocated shoulder. Mikel Arteta will also be out of action for three months, having successfully undergone ankle surgery. Elsewhere, Wenger has ruled out Danny Welbeck for the Etihad clash, while Kieran Gibbs will be monitored after returning to training later today.

Kieran Tripper was withdrawn with a tight hamstring in Wednesday evening’s cup tie against Spurs Sean Dyche alleviated any concerns by suggesting that the defender should be fit for the weekend. The Clarets are hopeful on club captain Jason Shackell, who missed the cup defeat to Spurs with a calf complaint.

Nigel Pearson could again be without Esteban Cambiasso for the visit of Stoke, with the midfielder yet to fully train following injury. Danny Drinkwater is in contention for the weekend, while Pearson has suggested that fellow midfielder Dean Hammond is a “unlikely to be available” for the Potters clash. The Foxes boss is also hopeful that the paperwork will be completed in time to allow new signing Andrej Kramaric to figure at the weekend.

Gaston Ramirez and Sone Aluko are both set to train today ahead of Hull’s trip to Upton Park. Steve Bruce is set for a reshuffle up front, though, with Nikica Jelavic and Abel Hernandez both ruled out for up to six weeks.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Raheem Sterling is available for selection once again, following the youngster’s short mid-season break. Rodgers has also gone on to reveal that Adam Lallana is ahead of schedule on his comeback from a thigh problem and will be monitored along with Steven Gerrard and Glen Johnson. Daniel Sturridge though, remains sidelined for the Aston Villa trip.

Mark Hughes is optimistic that Steven Nzonzi will be fit to face Leicester, though the Potters boss is sweating on the fitness of Erik Pieters, after the pair were withdrawn at the break in the loss to Arsenal. Furthermore, Victor Moses returned to the squad against the Gunners after recovering from injury, and Hughes has suggested that the winger now “looks sharp and is ready to go.”

Joe Cole could be set to miss the meeting with ex-club Liverpool at the weekend, after picking up a hamstring injury at Leicester. In more positive news, Nathan Baker is expected to return to the squad after injury, with Villa also welcoming back Fabian Delph from suspension.

Ahead of Palace’s trip to Burnley, Alan Pardew has revealed that James McArthur has recovered from the foot problem that forced him off in the win over Spurs last week.

Winston Reid and Guy Demel have both returned to light training and “have a chance” of making Sunday’s home clash with Hull, according to Sam Allardyce earlier this morning.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

If you have Kane (most people do) then it has to Downing. This is what I have done. Really do not fancy doubling up on an inconsistent Spurs attack.

This is a really tricky one. I am seriously considering the triple up!

I have 6.9 to spend on the third playing spot (money not needed elsewhere). Others are Forster - Clyne - Terry - Wisdom - Hutton/PVA.

Nobody stands out. Neglecting the fact I have Clyne+Forster ... Bertrand is by far the top candidate.

Think he'll start Hector. Chamber's gets done for pace too easily and City will try and overload that wing through Navas & Zabs. Only counter is pace - combination of Bellerin and Ox/Walcott is the fastest we can offer.

Don´t look at stats on this one Doos, he was great against Newcastle and I think that is what will earn him more starts over Chambers. Chambers had to justify his purchase.

Well, I watched that match, and I am sorry, but I disagree. Those stats point to him not doing it in training.

Chambers is long past justifying anything, whatever Gunners may say.

Agree with King on this one. With no Toure in the team City often move the bulk of their attacks out wide, through Navas and Nasri and it usually pays dividends. Clichy and Nasri will have their work cut out for them dealing with Alexis. If we can cancel out Navas with the pace of Bellerin and whoever plays in front and Coquelin can prove himself against a big team after his promising recent exploits in the pivot with Rosicky infront of the back four we shouldn't be too leaky.

Obviously its City, at City and the have Aguero and yes they beat us 6-3 last year but the 2-2 this season was a much closer contest. I'm actually really looking forward to this match!

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    Is Aguero essential?

Is he fixture prood and essential for this week? Or is it better to wait until fixtures improve. More than 100K have drafted him in already- are price rises a factor, or does he offer genuine points potential now?

IF he proves fitness he's probably essential from GW 24 because of the captain factor. But certainly not now.

The number of points he'll score over the next 2 games is debatable when he will probably not play 90 mins this GW and will have a hard time scoring next GW. Other forwards will almost certainly do better.

The price rise factor is way over-estimated. He took 12 weeks to rise from 12.0 to 12.8 when he was banging goals in every week. There's no reason he should rise faster now when many transfers in will be via wildcards which don't appear to be counted in the normal way.

Talk of a 0.6 rise in 2 GWs (as some have predicted) is hysterical as has been shown by a rise of only 0.1 this week. Is the rate of change likely to intensify next GW before Chelsea away? If he scores a couple this weekend, probably. If he blanks, probably not.

Probably a must from GW 24. But many will have blown some of the value of their their wildcards by going too early IMO. As for taking a hit to get him in now? Not for me.

Sportsinjuryclinic.net describes rehabilitation after a Grade 1 (minor) medial ligament sprain if anyone is interested:

"Phase 4: From 4 weeks after the injury occurred - duration 3 to 6 weeks.

Continue with strength training as above but start to include hopping and bounding exercises. The athlete should now be ready to gradually return to full sports specific training and then competition."

This suggests that there will be a cautious approach with Aguero over the next 3-6 weeks and that it will take until mid-February or early March before they are confident the knee is fully stable again.

100% agree, I think (and hope) not having Aguero for GWs 23 and 24 could be a differential in itself seen as so many have drafted him in

      Is he fixture proof? Yes.

Is he essential for this week? No.

Does he offer genuine points potential now? Hell yea.

I may just bite the bullet and get him in after Chelsea game.
Don't see I am going to captain in any of these games so not getting him in for this.
Depending on what he does not Sunday price may sky rocket. Then may have to take him before Chelsea game.

Think Man City will get lots of goals this week but Aguero ay not ply the whole match

Not essential yet. If he explodes this weekend, I'll get him in next week otherwise will wait til after Chesea. Prefer Barnes this weekend 🙂

I guess no one is entirely fixture proof, but he is as close as it gets. He's not essential this week, but I'm much happier knowing I have him.

In a week where most people are captaining Harry Kane, captaining Aguero has a huge upside.

For me there are only two options this week. Not getting Kun in until post Chelsea match. Or getting him in now and making him captain.

Why? Because there is no other obvious stand out this week (Kane against the well drilled Sunderland? Give over) and when are you ever going to get the chance to captain a differential with this much potential. Kun could score 20 points against Arsenal. He is one of the few players in the game capable of doing that on ANY given week. If he’s in, for me, he has to be captain. Why get him in now if you’re not prepared to seize the day…

He certainly is good enough to bag 20 points against Arsenal. He could bag 20+ against any team in the world. But you're forgetting that he's been out with a major injury. Surely this should be factored in when analysing his potential? Personally I'm going to wait until after the Chelsea game before considering buying him in. I may regret this, but it's a chance I'm willing to take.

The problem with hazard is that Chelsea will beat Swansea but hazard may not score
The problem with aguero is that Man City will thrash sunderland but aguero may not play >45
That's why I'll inevitably end up with kane (c)

Which means they will score lots of goals as they usually do against Arsenal therefore Kun is a good pick? Or are you saying that this is a tricky fixture (as is Chelsea next week) therefore he is not a good pick?

I never base my captain on hoping someone comes off the bench to score.

Downing has a possibility of a clean sheet, assist or goal. He attracts bonus points.

For this weekend I think its going to be someone diff to shine.
