Scout Notes

Scout Scribbles – Naismith Nets in Scotland Draw

Steven Naismith grabs a goal as Scotland draw in Poland. John O’Shea notches the Republic of Ireland’s equaliser in Germany. Angel Di Maria and Sergio Aguero are both named on the bench as Argentina rout Hong Kong, Andre Schurrle misses out for Germany through injury, whilst Enner Valencia scores twice as Ecuador ease past El Salvador.

Naismith Notches for Scots

The Everton striker continued his excellent start to the season by grabbing Scotland’s second in a 2-2 draw away to Poland last night before being replaced on 71 minutes.

The Scout Says: Snapped up by almost 30,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers since the previous Gameweek, Naismith is now the second most popular forward in the game, with an ownership edging towards 27%. After scoring in each of the first three, he rose as high as 5.6 but dropped down to 5.2 on the back of three successive blanks before returning to form with a strike against United last time around. The Toffees are poised for five excellent home matches (AVL, SWA, WHM, HUL, QPR) and trips to Burnley and Sunderland in the next nine, though with Ross Barkley on the verge of a return, it remains to be seen whether Roberto Martinez will retain Naismith in the role in “the hole” or more the versatile Scot wide right to cover for the hamstrung Kevin Mirallas.

Aguero and Di Maria Benched in Argentina Rout

The Man City striker was an unused sub in Argentina’s 7-0 hammering of Hong Kong, whilst United’s record signing was afforded 17 minutes late in the second-half. Pablo Zabaleta also featured off the bench in a match that saw Sunderland’s Santiago Vergini play from start to finish.

The Scout Says: Aguero owners will no doubt be delighted by last night’s news, bearing in mind he now faces a long-haul flight back from Hong Kong. Snapped up by 25,000 FPL managers since the previous Gameweek, he’ll be fully rested for City’s match with Spurs on Saturday lunchtime, whilst Di Maria has even more time to rest and recuperate – United don’t play West Brom until Monday night. Elsewhere for City, reports suggest Yaya Toure may not arrive back in England until 24 hours before the weekend kick-off, with Ivory Coat set to host DR Congo at 6pm this evening. With a vital Champions League trip to CSKA Moscow on Tuesday, Manuel Pellegrini will be desperate for the Ivorian to arrive back fit and raring to go, after he opened his account for the season in the Gameweek 7 win over Villa.

Schurrle Worry for Chelsea

After recovering from a minor knock to feature in Germany’s weekend loss to Poland, the winger missed last night’s clash with the Republic of Ireland due to illness. Elsewhere for Chelsea, Willian and Oscar were handed 45 minutes apiece in Brazil’s 4-0 win over Japan, whilst defender Filipe Luis was handed the full 90 minutes for the South Americans. The Blues’ summer signing Loic Remy was handed a role on the flank for France and fired the opener in a 3-0 win before making way on 73 minutes.

The Scout Says: While Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard have grabbed most of our Fantasy attention, Schurrle, Willian and Oscar have yet to really make a convincing case. All three have notched a goal apiece in the last three Gameweeks, with the latter two also chipping in with an assist apiece, though with the schedule picking up in pace, it’s likely they’ll be prone to further rotation. Of the trio, Oscar has seen more pitch time of late – three starts in the last four in “the hole” suggests he could come into consideration if he can afford us the same level of security as Fabregas and Hazard.

O’Shea Salvages Draw for Ireland

The Sunderland defender stunned World Cup winners Germany by firing home a late equaliser as the Republic of Ireland grabbed a vital 1-1 draw to remain unbeaten after three Group D matches. The likes of Joel Ward, Marc Wilson, Aiden McGeady and Jon Walters all played from start to finish for Martin O’Neill’s side.

The Scout Says: O’Shea could barely have picked a worse time to arrive on our radars. One look at the upcoming schedule suggests the Black Cats’ backline is likely to struggle to justify any investment, with showdowns against Southampton, Arsenal, Everton, Chelsea, City and Liverpool in the next eight Gameweeks. Vito Mannone owners, however, may well be happy to hold – the Italian has averaged four points per appearance despite managing just two clean sheets so far, collecting at least one save point in five of the opening seven fixtures.

Valencia at the Double

After scoring his nation’s late equaliser against the USA at the weekend, the West Ham forward maintained his strong form over the international break by netting twice as Ecuador swept aside El Salvador 5-1 in the early hours of this morning.

The Scout Says: So far, Valencia has mainly been overshadowed by fellow forward Diafra Sakho since arriving at Upton Park. With the latter scoring in each of his last five for Sam Allardyce’s side, the South American’s goal and assist in the last four Gameweeks has somewhat paled into insignificance. Nonetheless, whilst Sakho has been afforded the last fortnight off due to a lack of international duties, Valencia’s upturn in form suggests he’ll be firing on all cylinders as the Hammers roll up to struggling Burnley on Saturday. With Stoke, Villa, Newcastle and West Brom in the subsequent six, the 6.9-priced Valencia may yet find a place on our Watchlists, though Sakho, at 5.6, is proving the better value option right now.

This conflict has more depth than you think and is really worth reading about.
Most people is only able to recall Americans bombing Belgrade in response to Serbs military intervention to hold Kosovo at all cost, which is only a tiny part of the story.

    Hey Guys,

    Krul
    Terry - Jones - Clyne
    Fabs - Sterling - ADM - Siggy
    Costa - Pelle - Welbeck

    Green - Chester - King - Chambers

    Transfer used. 1.1m in bank.

Very thin bench, and could be in trouble defensively if Krul and Jones are out - I'm thinking Chester ---> Bertrand could be worth a -4 hit?

I will then just sort a new goalkeeper out next week. Could I get some opinion? Thanks.

Morning guys, let's see if we can get a few more opinions. Here's the plan:

    Forster, McCarthy
    Clyne, Moreno, Ivan, Duff, Moore,
    AdM, Fab, Sterling, Siggy, Boyd,
    Costa, Pelle, Welbeck

    2FT, 2.3m itb

GW8: Moreno > Baines, 0.8m itb, save the transfer
GW9: Fab > Chadli, 3.7m itb, save the transfer
    GW10: Ivan, Pelle >Azpi, Aguero, 0.4m itb.

What do you think? The transfers in GW10 could be a different way of getting Aguero in with 2FT.

    Cheers

    1) Adrian ( Foster)

Baines Azpi Bertrand ( Moore Wisdom)

    Pelle Costa Welbz

    OR

    Adrian (Foster)

Not really-- Pienaar seems to always be injured or coming of an injury, Martinez seems to play Mcgeady in the Europa League and everyone else is a DM [Besic,Gibson]. There is Osman but with Naismith playing more regularly, he's more of a bench option.

I guess you either wait for Barkley or stick it with Mirallas. Otherwise, Naismith,Baines, Coleman and Lukaku are the fantasy assets worth looking at.

Think I have finally nailed the WC team.

    Guzan / Foster

    Clyne / Tomkins / Baines / Hutton / Moore

Di Maria / Hazard / Henderson / Sigurdsson / Boyd

    Costa / Aguero / Welbeck

I like it, but feel like it is dull. Is it me, or is this FPL season dull so far? And after the initial bounty of midfield options, I really don't feel yhat there are more than 10 options in midfield. Most template season ever, due to slowing price rises imo.

No not really. I did have Pelle for a couple of weeks and he did well. Problem was that the main reason I wildcarded was to get Hazard and Di Maria before price rises. I am top of my mini league and Di Maria was the only player causing me to loose ground. Welbeck has better longer term fixtures and I think he will score on par with Pelle over the season. Thanks for the suggestions.

I don't share that sentiment at all. In all of the positions there are so many players I really want and there are several expensive defenders that seem to be delivering well enough to warrant it. It doesn't feel obvious at all what the best front 7 is, compared to certain previous years where the teams picked themselves.

Man that's a toughie - prefer second draft, but it's close and both are good!

Is it ever worth modifying your preferred wildcard draft for a single fixture, and changing back with a free transfer the following week? Or is it more sensible to lock your favoured squad in?

For example, I'm happy with my WC draft below, but given Chadli's fixture (and now injury doubt), it's tempting to start with someone else this week (say Hendo/Tadic/Mane) and transfer back to Chadli next week. That said, maybe it's better to bed in your preferred line up, and just use the bench to cover such problems?

      Would appreciate your thoughts, thanks!

      Guzan/Foster
      Baines, Bertie, Azpi, Duff, Moore
      Sterling, ADM, Siggy, Chadli, Boyd
      Aguero, Costa, Wellbeck

Not sure how you are gonna get Tadic/Mane in if you have 0.0 ITB.

Unless you -4 next week, which would be bordering on the utterly ridiculous.

Thanks for feedback - my clumsy wording, my WC is active so I meant go with best alternative mid player instead of Chadli, and use next week's FT to bring Chadli in for that player.

Ps and your'e right, unless I downgrade defence only Hendo would work as a straight swap - it's the principle of the thing I was curious about!

Even after WC, your team will evolve. So, while it's best not to plan an immediate transfer directly afterwards it's not going to cause that much damage in the long run if you have one planned. You may well change your mind after the first round of fixtures anyway.

Try to have XI ready players for the first 2 fixtures. Then you may save and have 2 FT for GW 10.

I am not sure Albania are innocent
I remember seeing a documentary about how they steal young girls getting off planes in Paris and selling them to rich Arabs. Some of these girls need their fathers to use their special set of skills to help them.

Anybody else think it's time for Sterling to leave there teams.
too much BS going on about him atm. Plus a dont want a player in my team who did not want to play for his country in a very important game because he was TIRED .. a Mean Cmom to feck that. Got to be the worst excuse ever for a professional footballer. Ffs grow a set and get on with it.

      Sterling and Moreno
      out for
Downing and Baines ... WhI thinks this is a bad idea ?

        Thinking about it.

Thoughts so far are to get Tadic in for Sterling, which enables me to upgrade Fab to Haz and PvA to Alderweireld.

I already have Tadic . But no cesc so might downgrade Moreno to Naylor and bring in the Cesc

I agree it's time for Sterling to leave my team...Just waiting to grow brave to pull the trigger. Looking to replace him with Gerrard and maybe get Sturridge in for Welbz/Pelle if he looks good.

As for your transfers, I'd probably wait after Liverpool play QPR and any chance Downing could be Chadli?

Yeah a guess ur right there bro !
Qpr is his last chance. A Want a goal and a assist or he off lol.
Chadli is a very good shout

Yeah I agree it's tempting, but the problem is the 'BS' surrounding the Liverpool teenager could be precisely that, and came during international break - he's the kind of player that could really hurt you if you shipped him, especially with QPR coming up!

If he is to be rested, this is the game. Liv play Real Madrid after 3 days. The next game vs Hull is more difficult and he ll have a whole week after that to get rested. I am about to get rid but havent decided my transfer(s) yet.

      Forster
      Moore - pva - Kompany
      Haz - downing - adm - tadic
      aguero - costa - welbeck
      mccarthy - Wisdom, Cork, Chambers.

      2FT, 0.1ITB.

So I'm really struggling with this one. I would love to get in Baines or Ivanovic, but the only way I could see that working would be Costa -> Naismith/Berahino/Cisse, which might be a terrible terrible idea.

      What would you do?
