The Community Round Up

Planning ahead for the forthcoming double Gameweeks took centre stage as our community writers and hot topic posters considered the merits of the Arsenal and Liverpool midfields in particular. We look back at the community’s early thoughts for best and worst players of the season and receive some mixed news about the health of two of our most respected posters. Elsewhere, we take a look at the key stats in our Members Tables area and catch up on the latest movements in our community leagues.

The Community Articles

Jaffalicious’s article last month on Arsenal’s attacking options was so popular that he was not only named best community writer for March but was also asked for an encore.

During this week’s vote to find March’s best community writer Jaffalicious was asked to deliver a follow up, this time focusing on the influence of Aaron Ramsey to the side since his return to injury. He duly delivered with this assuring read for the Welsh wizard’s suitors and current owners.

Gameweek 32 was a set of fixtures to forget for many of the community, according to our latest Rough with the Smooth article, looking at your tales of woe and joy. Those who invested in Crystal Palace’s attack grabbed the bragging rights, while those who drafted in the injured Loic Remy were left crestfallen. Many of these were also read out on this week’s Scoutcast.

With the FA Cup schedule blunting the fixture list in Gameweek 33, there are plenty of opportunities to consider more leftfield picks, particularly for those planning to wildcard in Gameweek 34. Here’s the Puntmaster with his latest trio of differentials to consider.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

The community’s love/hate relationship with double Gameweeks is set to be tested in Gameweek 34, when Liverpool, Chelsea, Leicester and Hull enjoy two fixtures. As Ludo’s analysis of the best performing players in this season’s two double Gameweeks so far, investing in attack is key to getting the most out of these rare fixture opportunities.

Liverpool midfielders such as Raheem Sterling, Jordan Henderson and Philip Coutinho are among those many are considering for Gameweek 34. 7Shades of Smoke was on hand to delve into their statistics to find the best options.

For those with a wildcard still in hand, Gameweek 34 will feel like Christmas coming early. However, Zasa wonders whether Gameweek 35, when a number of premium players have plum fixtures, would be a better option for wildcarders.

Focusing on matters closer to hand, TommyJ has run the rule over the Gameweek 33 captaincy potential of Sergio Aguero and David Silva, two stand out armband selections as Manchester City entertain West Ham at the Etihad. Although those opting for Aguero may be put off after reading McNulty’s curse of the Captain Poll analysis.

The Manchester City pair were also two of a number of players without a double Gameweek to feature in our hot topic on the best single Gameweek options.

Harry Kane, however, is increasingly seen as dispensible as a single Gameweek option on current form. In our hot topic on the Tottenham striker it seems his army of followers is set to decline rapidly as Gameweek 34 approaches.

As the season draws to a close the community is weighing up the candidates for their end of season awards. While Demi invited the community to name the best Premier League manager, Andy85 took a look at the season’s best signing options, while Lucy asked us to weigh up the candidates for the worst signing of the season gong.

There was mixed news this week regarding the health of two much respected community veterans. Beric has visited Doosra in hospital and delivered this heartfelt thanks from the man himself as well as some welcome news regarding his recovery. Meanwhile, Absinthe gave us the sad news that his long term health problems are worsening. His bravery and good humour in the face of such adversity was understandably one of our most read posts this week. Our thoughts are with him and his family at this time.

The Members Tables

For those looking to take advantage of Leicester’s double Gameweek 34 Mungo has constructed this table looking at their best options. Another intriguing table for the week is JK is the one’s look at the best midfield options, based on the last four matches as is this table I’ve created looking at the season’s most accurate strikers so far.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

Greenwindmill retains his FFScout moderators and contributors league lead going into Gameweek 33, meanwhile Gnu’s Wigan to Me head to head is finely balanced with Bouncebackability and Tettey BojanGayles neck and neck on 66 points following Gameweek 32.

Choking Hazard for the second consecutive week hit the top score in TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition. There are now 57 teams left after 27 were eliminated when the safety score was set at 50.

Also, for those taking part in the FFS UEFA Cricket World Cup tournament the latest upate on Matchday 2’s events and a preview of this weekend’s Matchday 3 fixtures can be found here. On the subject of cricket, Thomas popped by with this invite to the community to take part in a new Fantasy game, the t20 Natwest Blast competition.

Is getting shot of Remy now the sensible thing to do? Has really buggered my plans for this week and next weeks double but he just isn't the assured Costa replacement we were hoping for right?

Options are to stick and hope for the best

    Or

Get rid along with Cazorla and bring in Fab (to give a full compliment of Chelsea players) and Vardy.

    Any opinions greatly received.

depends on amount of transfers. and rest of team for next week. I would say the first option based on the information provided

Yup, option 2 involves a -4 to get 11 on the pitch this week and reduces the number of DGW players next week from 8 to 7.

But Remy is only 50/50 to play this week and probably out of the DGW given that Costa is on the mend. I just feel Remy is an unnecessary risk and it's best to just get rid. I just can't bring myself to do it yet though.

        Thanks for the response dude.

Easier for you with the assurance of a Wild Card though. I desperately want to keep him as it gives me better options for next week but I just can't gamble on his fitness and minutes.

It would be incredible if Burnley qualify for Europe next year. Fingers crossed as that money could really go a long way.

Well Burnley aren't s big club so it would be great experience for them, although they would need a small squad expansion. As it would start in July for them it would be challenging for them though.

Yeah the EL is tough. Some great teams from the Champions League drop out into it. Would be a great test. But my point is is that when Burnley are getting in the EL you know it's a joke.

But I love the idea though.
The foundation of fair play influences clubs to, well, play fairly. That can only be a good thing for football as a whole.
I'm so glad this is in place. Let us not forget how far Fulham went. Yes they ended up going down a few years later, but that's not necessarily linked.

Let's say Liverpool or Tottenham were the top for fairplay. It would feel like a punishment putting them in the EL. Seems like a consolation prize that only benefits midtable clubs. If Burnley stay up and have EL it will be difficult for them to stay up again.

Not sure it's a good thing for small clubs at all.

It relegated Ipswich, then ruined us in the championship the next season (got in via fair play)

That said....beating Inter 1-0 was probably worth 12yrs in the championship!!

    Krul
    Terry Clyne Wollscheid
    Fellaini Hazard Puncheon Eriksen

how does this look after WC

    Davis
    Alderwerield/Ivanovic/Terry
    Silva/Hazard/A.Young
    Aguero/Murray/vardy

    Mignolet/Sterling/Henderson/PVA

No Kane is my primary risk but I am going to take it, I have decided.

    1. Geordienufc1
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 23 days ago

For me it's got to be Kane over Murray for me if you're talking in terms of the rest of the season (see fixtures + ownership issues). But leaving that aside if you're decided on it, the team looks pretty good. Not sure about Young, but he may be a good 5th mid if you want to switch to 3-5-2 some weeks.

So overall judgement = good, just a difference of opinion on Kane perhaps.

thanks mate, yeah I think I've decided. Bringing Kane back in now makes things difficult when bringing 3 arsenal attackers in before their dgw. I am just going to risk it. Yep Young will be my 5th midfielder.

      a) coleman and mata or
      b) schlupp and yaya

      just for this GW?

Hey Walsh, FYI, from a NYer. Mets are going to be very good this year. Already 8-3, and they have a very good, young pitching staff. They will vault my Yankees for the heart of NYC for the first time in a very long time this year.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Wright doing his hammy 8 games in was not a good sign. All we need is for Gee to need Tommy John so we can get Syndergaard or Matz in the rotation and I will feel a lot more comfortable. Pushing for a playoff spot is something I haven't felt for 8 years so that will be a welcome change, though. Cheers mate.

Thanks bud. I actually like the Yankees too as roughly half of my friends are Yankee fans. Don't mind them, like when my friends' teams win. Different leagues, don't really understand why Yankee and Met fans don't get along in general but hey, that's just me.

Hahaha. Well, it would be like pulling for both Manchester United and man city. Not really possible. It's easier to think that way when you're not local. I got a little more perspective when I moved to California for a few years back in the day. Makes you just pull for more teams back home. My yanks will be a 50-50 team this year. Too old and rickety pitching. A-rod a story though with his home runs.

It's completely different than pulling for both Manchester teams because they compete directly against each other in the standings. Mets and Yankees play 6 games a year and are in different Leagues so they don't have much impact on the others season which is why I don't and never have had a problem with the Yankees. If we are playing in the Series, though, like in 2000, then all bets are off and you can all die in a fire 🙂

That is true. Good point. Yet, the rivalry is very we/they. Interesting difference you point out though. I must say, with that, I don't know anyone who supports both ny baseball teams, and im an old fart! Maybe us NYers are just kinda [fill in the blank]

Alright chaps, just got in from a night out a realised I've yet to do any transfers this week but I'm not sure if I'm in my right mind or not.

    Heres my current team: http://i.imgur.com/CMDIL8V.png

Got 2 FT and am planning on doing Naughton>Baines and Kane>Vardy which leaves me with 0 ITB.

I fancy Baines to have a good GW and with Spurs goals drying up now seems the time to get rid of Kane if ever. Am I trying to hard to squeeze Baines in my team? I'm currently in the top 7k, my highest OR ever and don't want fluff up a first top 10k finish over one nights drunken transfers! Any advice would be great, thanks.

Started week thinking Naughton to Dann and save the second free

Then went to Lucus to Cambriasso to free up a possible -4 with three pool players next week

Then when heard the Remy news thought about Sanchez and Remy to Fab and Vardy

Now gone full circle and might just do Naughton to Dann and hope Remy plays

Remy should play this weekend BUT it's a tough fixture. Also, he'll be 50/50 for Arsenal and is unlikely to play against Leicester (his only good fixture). At least Utd are struggling with injuries.

            Sanchez>Fabregas
            Remy>Murray/Vardy

            -8

Tough situation to be in. Certainly complicated with Remy and Lucus. I feel as if you could get a way with carrying Naughton who is surely low priority particularly when the change is for a SGW player who will have rough fixtures soon enough.

      I know the feeling.

With no WC up my sleeve I'm taking a hit this week and next and leaving it in the lap of the fantasy gods. At least that way I can avoid spending the whole day mulling it over only to be foreced into a last minute decision.

I've had a pretty good couple of weeks so I figure I can afford a hit or two and it may well come off.

Dont want to make any transfer until the last minute, there a very slight chance we could hear further news , but unlikely what with Chelsea being the late kickoff

It soundsd to me like Costa will start training next week but is unlikely to be ready to actually start a game for a few weeks yet

This is why you are better at this game than I am.

I've spent too many days spent mostly in front of my computer mulling these things over. I never feel good after that and worse if it doesn't result in a good GW.

I've got my accounts to do, lawns to mow and more - all of which will still need doing next week if I indulge myself on here today. 🙂

I feel bad for anyone that bought remy last gw. was a good decision that's gone about as bad as it could go

I appreciate the sympathy, but perhaps I won't deserve any when he bags a hatty tomorrow.

yep could yet be brilliant. I just know that feeling when you sort of get trapped with something and have no idea which way to play it.
I hope he comes good for youse

Half the reason i got him was because of the QPR fixture, nobody could have predicted he would injure himself beforehand

Me too. Just a straight burn. Nothing we could do or foresee. Reminds me of a time when I got Rooney in one GW a few seasons back and was all giddy 'cause I thought it was a great move. Only, the next morning before game kicks off we find out he lacerated his head pretty badly at practice. Think Phil Jones had something to do with that, if I remember correctly. No surprise there.

Wish I got Remy in last week instead of Sturridge as I sit here today looking at my team 🙂

At least with Sturridge hes an easy sell. Remy your damned if you do , Damned if you dont

Yep. I feel stuck in the middle. Just gotta hope it reaps some rewards. I'd say we deserve some kind of recompense.

Yup. He'll surely start though. It must just be mind games, putting doubt into LVG's mind as to whether he'll start, or whether they'll play Drogba, or whether they'll play a false 9

Last week he had a 'minor impact muscular injury'. Given that information, and Mou's tendency to play mind games regarding injuries, he'll start I think

Thats the truth. I had to go against him and got Fab instead. It's the logical choice. Now watch Remy start and bang a hat trick 😆

Wanna hear something funny. I do fantasy MLS (hate the league or not, it's pretty fun)....anyways, pulled in David Villa and one of his teammates for the DGW this gameweek. Both subbed out first game with injuries at the half......and Villa was my captain........and I ate 8 points to move guys in, including those two. For crying out loud!

      Funny you should say that

I played the aussie fantasy . Villa was my captain Gameweek one in that too. He didnt even start, but came on as a sub, then bogged off to the states after a few games , he looked a shadow of himself

When in doubt try to hold onto your transfers.

Used 1 ft to get Murray in so 1 ft left.

I have 10 players this week and I'm tihnking about saving my tranny (so I'll have 2 for next week) and just playing naughton

SO my Q is.... Dann (or another defender in) for Naughton, or just save the ft to have 2 next week, and play 10 men?

    Thoughts?

Meh. Assuming you have to go budget with that spot, I'd probably just do Naughton to a Leicester defender so you have 11 for this weekend and an extra doubler although he will be poor at that.

Yeah, it's a meh move really. Chances are Dann will get 1 or 2 and I'd rather have the extra transfer for next weeks doublers!

transfering my 5th mid for a week might be better saved tranny for a double week next!

Might leave it 10 men and make up next week with 2 ft

How about Toby instead of Dann at least that way you get a player you'll want to pick most weeks.
