Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 35 – Monday

Arsenal rack up a ninth win in ten Gameweeks with a commanding display at the KC Stadium. Alexis Sanchez nets twice and Aaron Ramsey chips in with a goal and assist, as Stephen Quinn heads home Hull’s consolation in the 3-1 defeat.

Sanchez at the double as Arsenal flourish

Alexis Sanchez stole the headlines with a brace at the KC Stadium as Arsenal staged a free-flowing, attacking masterclass to record a 3-1 victory over Hull City. The Chilean forward opened the scoring with a deflected free-kick, before latching onto Aaron Ramsey’s superb through ball and calmly rounding Steve Harper for the Gunners’ third of the evening.

Sanchez fourth brace of the campaign strengthens his case for inclusion as Fantasy managers eye up Arsenal coverage ahead of their double Gameweek 37. Those looking to draft in the 11.3-priced midfielder – who’s netted three goals in four league starts – may well consider making a straight swap with Eden Hazard to free up the substantial funds. Hazard’s consistency (attacking returns in 14 of previous 20 starts) is undeniable, yet Sanchez’ explosive capabilities have now seen him return double-figures on eight occasions ahead of his four fixtures in the final three Gameweeks.

Ramsey impressed once more in his sixth successive start since a full return from injury in Gameweek 29. The Wales international boosted his tally to three goals and four assists over that period and, priced at 8.7, has edged ahead of Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla in the race for our double Gameweek attentions.

Olivier Giroud drew a blank for the third match on the trot, having netted in six consecutive outings before Gameweek 32. The French marksman only mustered four shots in Arsenal’s last two fixtures, with none of these efforts forcing a save out of the opposition’s goalkeeper. Conversely, Sanchez has chalked up 10 shots (four on target) across the last two, perhaps rendering him the premier captaincy pick for Arsenal’s double – already, the Chilean has risen in price and has been snapped up by over 26,000 FPL managers since the weekend.

Arsene Wenger named an unchanged XI from that which played out a 0-0 stalemate against Chelsea last Gameweek. Danny Welbeck missed out with inflammation in his knee, but Wenger revealed before the encounter that he expects the former Manchester United frontman to be passed fit for their Swansea City clash next Monday.

Hull outclassed by buoyant Gunners

Steve Bruce also fielded an unchanged side as Hull fell to just their second home defeat in six. Stephen Quinn bagged his first goal of the campaign, while Ahmed Elmohamady notched his second assist in as many outings – the 12,600 Fantasy managers that drafted in the Egyptian on the eve of the Tigers’ double Gameweek will be hoping he can sustain that momentum when they host a Burnley outfit devoid of inspiration next weekend.

A subsequent trip to Tottenham Hotspur and home tie against Manchester United on the final day of the season present the Yorkshire club with a testing finish that doesn’t appear conducive to strong Fantasy returns. Nonetheless, the Tigers – who sit just one point behind 18th-placed Sunderland – will doubtless be fighting tooth and nail to avoid the drop, which, as evidenced by their recent results against Palace and Liverpool, could translate into results on the pitch.

(rp) How's this looking for the weekend and beyond?

    Mignolet (Pantilimon)

    Schlupp | Terry | Cawson (2 x Sou)

Hazard | Sterling | Coutinho | Sanchez (Puncheon)

    Vardy | Benteke | Aguero (c)

    Am thinking of doing

Sterling --> Ozil this week; then Hazard --> Ramsey and maybe Vardy --> Wickham in time for GW 27.

    Any thoughts appreciated, thanks.

Vardy to Wickham not worth a hit.....do you have these on frees ?

Can you shed a Sou defender to someone like McShane to save you selling Hazard ?

I'm not selling Hazard cos I need the money; am selling because I'm unconvinced he'll score highly over the last 3 games.

    this place is crazy.

Ospina now going to be dropped because Whinger will want Sczesney to be warmed up for cup final...............

Hazard being punted for Sanchez, on the back of one good game..............

    DGW madness all over again!

      I sold Cesc for Sanchez

Jose has stated somewhere that he won't play weakened teams v Pool or Sunderland (but maybe v WBA if they are safe) so can't fathom shifting Haz

but someone has to make way for Sanchez

So. I need Bentekke, therefore no Wickham. I can easily sacrifice Phillips, to Gomez for a hit, this week or next. I am tempted to do it this, and review whether I get van Aanholt or not.also gives me time to decide between Oezil and Ramsey. Money not an issue. 🙂

Benteke definitely preferable to any Sunderland striker. Weighing up Gomez v Larsson myself

Gomez - pens, Larsson - set pieces

          Indeed 😛

I will have to try and manage without Benteke sadly, bigger fish to fry

My other reason is i don't need to take a hit and I prioritised getting 2 more Arsenal for GW36 (Sanchez and Ramsey) over getting a 3rd Sunderland. I don't see getting either of them as a high priority before a match away at Everton

Biggest mistake this season in FPL?

Started off a quick debate earlier on, was pretty popular and I imagine there are quite a few.
Mine is the non ownership of Chelsea defence - and opting for Remy instead.

How am i looking for the run in? No Tekkers is a worry. Should i put him in for Giroud for a hit?

    Myhill

    Terry Bertrand Toby

    Haz Sanchez Siggy Silva

    Aguero Kane Giroud

    Given Boyd Pva Bruce

I wouldn't sell Giroud for Benteke, think they will score similarly until the end of the season. But I'd possibly look to get him in over Kane. I'd probably downgrade Bertrand to fund it personally.

I kind of hope they go down!

Mike Ashley has run it as a business, and successfully.

Not to worry, the Telegraph uses too many big words for most of them to know what they're going on about.
That club is a right mess, I'd be tempted to say relegation would do them good, but Ashley would probably let them go bust

      1) deciding not get one of Sanchez or Ramsey in this week and keeping Cesc and Sterling
      2) 5k drop and cut in ML lead
      3) If you know a move is the right thing to do, just do it even if it means you may have to take a hit later on

      1) Taking a hit to bring in Giroud and Captaining him
      2) Rank didn't fell by much but in the Mini League the gap went from 10 to 46. (As My rival had captained Hazard and also had Sanchez).
      3) To captain the safe pick gonna captain Aguero this week, but now in order to reduce the gap Have done Kane --> Benteke in hope of him scoring good.

My move was Cesc and Remy out. After the Remy colossal fail, and I brought in Benteke and Ramsey!

Propelled me from 6700 to 5355 in Rank and 20 points behind ML leader. Only sad part about this GW was that I had left Myhill on my bench and played Pantilimon!

I've learned that at times a hit is needed to set your team up for upcoming GWs, watching people scramble to get Benteke is very entertaining 😉

        1. What was your move of success or failure? – Total fluke, had Guzan in goal ahead of Myhill, didn’t see the teams till I watched Match of The Day and was so happy when Guzan was dropped. The best part was I didn’t know that Myhill even saved a pen till I watched it haha. Had Hazard as (C) ahead of Sanchez, would have been alright if he had scored the pen the first time.
        2. What effect did it have on your rank? Jumped up to the top 9 thousand
        3. What have you learned from the move? Sometimes its pure luck.

      1. Mostly success this week. My decision to hold Mane, Silva and Coutinho paid dividends. I chose Kun over Hazard for the armband, which was the right call, though not much in it. I now have a free double transfer up my sleeve.
      2. Up from 617 to 508.

      1) OK gameweek score of 56 - not brilliant but not a disaster. However my mini-league rival scored a wopping 101 (with a GW rank of 123 in the world)
      2) My cash mini-league lead has been cut from 46 points to 1 point in just one gameweek
      3) Be bold - I held my transfer instead of making the Sterling-Sanchez move that I had spent about an hour pondering on Friday night.

I am pretty confident I have got this!!

I played Mignolet , Kos and Herderson/Sterling and benched Myhill, Schluup and Albrighton (that is over 30 points )

Also I had 2 Arseal players : Kos and Giroud. It couldn´t be worse...

        Anyway:

After several very rough 'red' weeks at last a transfer ploy that worked! Brought in Sanchez and Ramsey (-4) for Sterling and Fabregas for a net improvement of 18 pts (vs doing nothing which was my alternative strategy).

Strengthened my hold at no. 1 in my mini-league and rose 1500 places to 1.367 on the OR.

Such a good feeling - reminds me of game week 8!

Lesson learned - go with that gut feel when it strikes!

      2) Got me closer to Mark who I'm trying to beat 🙂
(Gap down to 9 pts - 13 pts closed)

The smooth - Schmeichel 7, Morgan 12, Benteke 13 and Aguero (c) 16. 69 points overall and was on for my best GW rank since GW8 at 17k before Monday nights game and then went up to 110k.

The rough - apart from Terry (5) and Hazard (6) the rest of my team all scored 2's.

I was debating all week whether to split the risk and play Pantilimon, but I was convinced Sunderland wouldn't keep a clean sheet so that definitely paid off!

Also, I was promoting Morgan's aerial threat and tipping him to score a goal from GW34 onwards when people were on a WC, so that paid off too!

I got the Berbatov smooth operator award a fortnight ago but I have topped that week by getting 98 this time round! Myhill, Morgan, Sanchez and got Benteke and Ramsey in for a hit which gained around 20 pts on its own. Top 10 within reach!

      1) I brought in Sanchez and shipped out Fabregas.. even though I flipped back and forth between saving the transfer.

      2) I went up 13k this week

      3) Strike while the iron is hot, I guess. Wish I'd brought in Sanchez and Benteke after getting good advice from TuttiFrutti to bring him in and captain!

      1. A number of my decisions on my DGW34 wildcard did not turn out well and resulted in a poor GW35 score.
      - Decided not to bring in Benteke or N'Doye because Giroud, Aguero and Kane were the forwards I wanted for DGW37.
      - Brought in Giroud, Cambiasso and Henderson who all failed, but dropped Silva, Baines and Lescott who were more successful.
      - Selected Huth instead of Morgan as my Leicester defender, even though Morgan was cheaper and in slightly better recent form, and then benched Huth in GW35 because of his injury doubt.

      2. Lost my Members Cup match by 43 points to 60. Well done waltzingmatildas, who had played her wildcard much earlier but made a well-judged late transfer of Remy to Benteke and also still had Silva.

      3. Getting a wildcard squad right is not easy!

Following a fair performance last week in which I budgeted to transfer Coutinho for Sanchez this week, I began to weigh the pros and cons of going for Ramsey instead. It wasn't until I looked at my team that I realized that with the money in the bank, I could have kept Coutinho and transferred Henderson instead!

I still managed to creep up about 500 places in the overall ranks, but the extra 11 points from Coutinho would have made this week about more than treading water.

Moral of the story? Weigh up the alternatives before making a transfer, particularly when changing one that you planned.

      1) Fabregas to Sanchez. Had been plugging it all week and quite a few people had said not too, but I was pretty certain it was the right move, so went for it!

      2) the difference between a red arrow and a small green, which at this stage and at my rank (1.8k) is crucial!

      3) Stick to your guns, this community is fantastic but sometimes is wrong 🙂

      1. Followed up benching Kos last week (9 points) by benching Was this week (10 points). At least Remy didn't play having sold him for Giroud. I feared he would bite me.

      2. Slip sliding away to my worst ever season and only time been out of the top 80k at 254k I think. Need an epic DGW to recover!

      3. Don't be afraid to play cheap defenders if they are in form/have good fixtures over more expensive ones.

I agonized over whether to play Morgan or Bertrand this week and in the end picked Bertrand based on what he's done over the season and if I'm honest probably his price.

Morgan's goal and clean sheet got him 12 vs Bertrand's 1 - My only saving grace is that he inexplicably missed out on BAPS.

I scored 67 this week which was good enough to climb 2k places to around 6k... but what could have been with 78!

Lesson learned is don't pick price and reputation over an in form player vs Newcastle.

Yeah, what I was trying to say (poorly) was that he wouldn't have been playing even if not banned, at least that's what I heard.

I feel your pain. I have falcao and walcott in my draft league. Walcott is the serious let down as I really expected him to get back in the team once fit. Falcao came with as big a reputation as Costa (if not bigger) so to see him do so poorly has been unlucky too imo.

yeah they were both early pick ups in my league too. poor old zep picked up adm as the second pick overall after aguero. ouch. my first and second round picks were alexis and mane 😎

Had a real stinker this week. Does my plan sound good enough?

    Panti // Hamer

    JT / Skrtel / Toby // Bruce / Baird

    Cesc / Hazard / Henderson / Sterling // Boyd

    Kun / Kane / Giroud 2FT 1.3ITB

    JT + Cesc -> Koscielny + Sanchez.

    Thoughts? Any other suggestions?

So who is going without Benteke? Looking at form and fixtures i don't think i can go without even if it costs me a hit down the line

The search for Gameweek 36's Scout Pick Champion is now on.

The polling stations are open. Cast your vote wisely or put forward your Gameweek policies via this link http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2015/05/05/the-scout-picks-community-champion-vote-gameweek-36/

Thanks for advices earlier, guess I will go for 5 premium mids then.. feels a bit "all in" with 3 Arsenal-mids but that's ok I guess.. PvA + Panti ok for DGW or too much sunderland?

    Team for DGW:

    Panti
    Ivanovic PvA Alderweireld
    Hazard Sanchez Silva Ozil Ramsey
    Aguero Kane

    Mignolet Vardy Schlupp Dawson

    a) Sterling to Alexis

    b) Kane to Giroud

Cant do both i'm afraid without taking a hit.
I'm keen on (A) so i could get rid of Sterling.

    Panti // Myhil
Terry - Skrtel - Schlupp // Vlaar, Duff
    Sterling - Hazard - Sanchez - Coutinho // Boyd
    Kun - Kane - Vardy

    1FT, 0.0 ITB

Any plan on how to fit Ramsey and Koscielny, with minimum hits.

    A. Terry, Sterling to Koscielny,Ramsey? [-4]
    B. I can sell Hazard and meybe release funds for Benteke in that case but that will mean -8 [and not willing to sell Hazard probably because of last match].
