The Community Round Up

Autumn ushers in a wind of change across the fixture schedule from next weekend, with our hot topic posters on hand to offer advice on the best players to draft in and the key attributes to consider.

We also find the community waxing lyrical over Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s mixed fortunes in front of goal, as well as mulling over the bewildering mid-price midfield options available.

Our community article section honours September’s most popular scribe, takes a look at goal prediction and bonus points, while there’s plenty more key numbers unearthed in our Members Tables section.

Finally, we look at the evergreen leaders of our community leagues, still basking in the warm glow of a successful summer.

The Community Articles

Ibrahimovic’s recent scoring drought is among the issues tackled in my Members community article on the successes and failures over the weeks of the goals imminent table.

The international break has also given Spreadsheet some time to number crunch, with his latest article looking at baseline bonus point stars, who don’t just need clean sheets or goals to shine.

Bobby F has been crowned best community writer for September following this week’s vote. His excellent examinations of Roberto Firmino and the rest of the Liverpool squad, the attributes of Theo Walcott and Eden Hazard’s worrying away form have earned him a £20 Amazon voucher.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Gameweeks 8 and 9 mark a significant improvement in fixtures for a raft of teams from the likes of struggling Stoke and Bournemouth to high-flying Liverpool and Arsenal. We canvassed your views on how best to cope with this autumnal change and also had a look at those to consider based on their FPL Bonus Point System scores.

Getting a good range of captains in place is crucial to success for those looking to take advantage of the autumnal fixture shift. Net Gains dropped by to offer her top tips on armband selection with the help of her abacus.

The international break is proving a period of reflection for Zlatan Ibrahimovic owners, after the Manchester United striker failed to score for the third Premier League game in a row, against Stoke in Gameweek 7.

For those looking to transfer out Zlatan, we considered some of the key replacements, while Zophar offers some assurances that reports of a triple price drop for the big Swede ahead of Gameweek 8 are very unlikely.

Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez certainly has the form and fixtures to take over from Ibrahimovic in our affections. AA33 believes that, unlike in the last post international fixture, there is little chance that the Chilean will be rested next weekend following another run of matches for his country.

With heavy hitter midfielders such as Sanchez looking near essential over the coming weeks, TM245 has taken a look at the pros and cons of adopting a 3-5-2 formation.

There’s certainly plenty of candidates to take up a place in this quintet, with Jmcclory123 taking a look at Arsenal’s The Walcott and Spurs’ Heung-Min Son, with Numb also examining the merits of the same pair of mid price assets.

Our hot topic discussing teams that have ruined the Fantasy prospects of their central strikers indicates that focusing in midfielders may reap rewards, while Jmcclory popped back again to sing the praises of some of this season’s mid price striker stars for those keen to hang on to an attacking trio.

Elsewhere, Soze was in confessional mood with a hot topic on some of his worst mistakes this season. Keeping hold of Ibrahimovic was among the sins revealed in the ensuring discussion, although the Swede’s struggles in front of goal did at least inspire Applebonkers to mark National Poetry Day in style.

Finally, with many of the community using their All Out Attack chip in FPL during Gameweek 7 we canvassed your views on what is proving an unpopular chip and considered some of the more viable alternatives that could replace it.

The Members Tables

The failure of the likes of Ibrahimovic, Sergio Aguero and Sanchez to get on the scoresheet in Gameweek 7, despite a number of chances, comes under scrutiny in my Can’t Hit A Barn Door table.

Can shots in the box be a good indicator of impending goals? SS thinks not, but even his own table disagrees with him. Saab’s latest table on penalty area touches shows that this, too, remains a useful way of predicting goals, unless of course, the player in question happens to be tall, in his mid 30s and Swedish.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Sahil Sud is the new leader of Red Lightning’s Top 10k Any Season mini-league after captaining Chelsea’s Diego Costa in Gameweek 7. Sahil is now ranked 303 overall.

Our resident physio Facer has massaged his way into the lead in the FFScout Moderators and Contributors league.

In TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing the safety score was 27, which saw 196 players depart and 2347 remain with entry currently open.

Show me the Mane remains at the summit of the Long and Winding Road main league following Gameweek 7.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups, please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Theo Walcott is nearly on par with Alexis for 4m cheaper

Real bargain at 7.7m 😉 (double up is tasty)

    - Total pl minutes : 14296(approximately 159 matches per 90)

    - 58 goals 54 assists = 112, goal/assist per 90 = 0.70

    - Did the same for Alexis and he had 0.75 goal/assist per 90

Thinking about just that as my main rival has Alexis, not sure it would be worth the splash for cash.

Sanchez owners will tell you he'll definitely start but of course there's a chance he won't. I doubt he'll be back in London until Thursday and their game at 3pm on Saturday is one they can win without him.

Have to admit not having Wally could be painful, but I just couldnt resist the liverpool double up and Son. Also don't forget that Sanchez is now up front and playing very well. I see 20+ pl goals this year.

Firmino/Cout and Sterling could be season holders as they are nailed on and plays for best two attacks in league

So it would probably one of Son and Theo. Both great short term options. but rotation could be imminent

Theo on current form is safe. But i feel if his form dips and ramsey giroud is available his position may come under risk

While not sure on Son. He started when in the game where Kane got injured right ? not a spurs fan here btw 😉

        Between my current mid is

        Sanchez Theo Firmino Son Capoue
        Kun Lukaku Tekkers

Did Antonio Snod --> Son and Theo for 2ft

Has to take a hit if i were to get Sterling. Very nervous to go without a city mid though

      Sterling I hate him
Wally because I don't wanna to double up so it's him or sanchez ....

Meh, I leave personal reasons out of FPL decisions. Sterling is just a shirt on a screen that gets points. Doubling up is fine if the fixtures and form is there which it is. In saying that I have to leave out someone so it could be Theo

Out of that lot, I would leave Sterling out if I had to. Main reason is that I think you can get away with Aguero as coverage of City. I would say he is also the least likely on that list who would be a captain candidate so the damage is limited even if he gets a haul

The only thing I could nitpick is the double up on Burnley defense

Monitor Cedric's injury and you might be able to fit Martina in there at 4.3 for Amat or Lowton

Perhaps Grant instead of Heaton could work as well

If on a wildcard throw him to the wind.

God I hate owning him I really do. Such a frustrating player.

Should have listened to my gut and got Troy and Theo on my wildcard not Snodgrass and Lukaku.

Not using a hit to get rid of him though so he's in my team for another wasted week at least.

In theory I have the exact money for this

    Boruc - Pickford
    Koscielny - Vertonghen - Holebas - Martina - Amat
    Sanchez - Walcott - Sterling - Coutinho - Son
    Aguero - Defoe - Diamonde

Somehow it feels better with Lukaku as the second forward though

Looks good on paper but Lacks real flexibility with that formation

With Lukaku its easier to swap with a Costa,Vardy/Silimani(check leicester fixtures from gw11 or Kane.

They all will be competing for golden boot

I know. Getting the top end midfielder would be nice but what is the cost?

        Obviously Lukaku v Defoe
The team is a bit less flexible money wise
The defence is pretty unflexible but you still have the main 2 stronger defenders

But you get Sterling instead of Snodgrass so that is a good trade up

Just thinking it over. I am not sure. There are quite a few trade downs to consider if I were to do it but on the other hand most of them are rotating defenders so does it matter? Defoe's fixtures are good.

For that mater I had Snoddy in the first place and his fixtures are very nice and it did allow a bit more freedom

Yea also consider if you downgrade Defoe to Austin/Wilson you can upgrade Sterling/Coutinho to a 9.5 mid such as Payet/Mane or upgrade Son/Walcott to Firmino if need be of course

You can make a 3-5-2 flexible enough to work for you

I just don't trust Hull enough to warrant Snodgrass regardless of how their fixtures look

I think it is mostly down to his price. You have all of these players at a million to 2 million less all performing and you have Payet who I really like but is quite expensive. He is not a bad pick at all biut I think you can get a similar point output for less

        Great minds think alike 😉

I'm just worried about Firmino. I don't think he is the best Liverpool mid. I was all set on Lallana until his injury and now I'm not sure. Downgrading Firmino to Lallana will also allow an upgrade in Gk's (two 4.0's!) I'm also still debating Vert vs Clyne. I feel like the latter choice is more exciting but the former is more safer.

Anyone think Lloris could be worth it @5.4? Vertonghen has as much attacking threat as him really 🙂 .. 23 points in the last 4 games too. on WC and i've literally gone from Grant + Pickford to Lloris 😆

Can't at all see him being worth it. Gk's over 5mil are hardly ever worth the money. He has 1 bap and not making many saves at all. 6 vs City was good but other than that he got 3, 2, 1, 1.

Yup.. the lack of saves is what's putting me off. Think i'll just stick with Grant + Pickford until things go south then. Heaton/Boruc etc just dont interest me somehow

Butland expected back in around a month. I'd be ditching Grant. Pickford is looking good but having him on his own is risky, definitely at risk of losing his spot if his form dips for a couple games.

          1. Virgil Hilts
            • 7 Years

Grant has 3 good fixtures at least before Butland is back. Maybe use him for 3 games, invest the half million or so somewhere else to get extra points & price rises for 3 weeks, then use 2 FT saved to sort when Butland returns?

Grant : SUN, hul, SWA is tempting me

Would play him over Pickford (sto, whm, ARS) next 3 weeks anyway.

His transfer out to a 4.5 may even become almost self funding if he rises a bit, and the other outfield player you sell on the double transfer rises also. There's also another 0.1 to bank for any Jaku sellers who had him originally at 4.0.

It's only a theory, but one worth a look if on WC or carrying 2 FT without any burning issues.

Choosing a goalkeeper is a funny choice isn't it? You either want a really good one froma good team who will keep clean sheets or one from a crap defence who should get plenty of opportunities to make saves. Some where in betweenis pretty useless

I reckon it's a pretty easy choice. I don't want one from a good team. They are usually overpriced. I just want a 4.5m one will make lots of saves and has decent CS potential.

              I have Heaton-Pickford.

Burnley are one of the best defences in the league at home. They even kept Liverpool out. Heaton will be up there for most saves this season.

Yup.. think i'm gonna end up with this combo. seems a shame to ignore two 4.0's in goal but long term it makes a lot of sense

I wasn't saying it was difficult. Just strange, being part of a crap defence that finds it difficult to keep clean sheets is a strange turn of events to lead to points.

Ah yep very true. I still hardy ever consider a GK from a good team though.

I have cech. But I am going to get Butland in for Cech and get either a Spur's or Arsenal defender.

So might be worth getting Lloris in till Butland returns.

looking at all of your teams. I can't figure out how you guys have managed to get either Lukaku or Costa up front next to Aguero. I can't afford that at all. Selling value of my team is 100.5. That's pretty poor I'm guessing?
Saying that though, I'm pretty happy with this team and front three.

    Cech. Pickford.
    Valencia. Holebas. Smith. Evans. Amat.
    Sanchez. Sterling. Firmino. Antonio. Capoue.
    Deeney. Aguero. Benteke.

      Pick Foster
      Evans Valencia Amat Collins Lenihan
      Sanchez Son Sterling Snod Cap
      Lukaku Costa Kun

TV is 102.6, but that's mostly because I had Capoue GW1

        TV is different to SV.

Cech will be downgraded to Butland when he returns.

      Payet every time.
Antonio won't be playing up front forever. But while he is, he's a brilliant option with stats like Son and Walcott
