The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 27

While all the pre-deadline chatter centred around our confidence, or otherwise, in Sergio Aguero, it is ironic that, hours later, we’re left pondering the future prospects of two of our season’s most reliable heavy-hitters.

Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic had been earmarked as an obvious target for the Gameweek 27 armband. Bournemouth’s visit to Old Trafford appeared to present a perfect scenario for the Swede: finally, he seemed poised to deliver that 15-20 point haul that would show that he could rival any asset for big “explosive” scores.

With the Cherries defence visibly shaken by United’s early forays, it appeared that Ibrahimovic would be given that opportunity. But, instead, he was to suffer his most torrid performance of the season, returning his lowest FPL tally.

To compound matters, an errant elbow into the cheek of Tyrone Mings seems likely to be reviewed and potentially punished by the FA. That could result in a three-match ban, ruling Ibrahimovic out of Gameweeks 29 and 30.

Already missing Gameweek 28 as a result of United’s FA Cup Quarter Final with Chelsea – another match he would miss should a charge and ban arrive – Ibrahimovic has already been sold more than any other asset since the passing of today’s deadline.

While he would certainly become an obvious target once United’s double Gameweek fixtures drop in place, up until that point, he now looks set to flood out of squads, declining in ownership and price.

Certainly, should Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane impress, along with Romelu Lukaku and Diego Costa, in tomorrow’s matches, then a new front three template will likely form without Ibrahimovic.

It’s again ironic that Aguero saved legions of Fantasy Premier League managers from suffering the indignity of a doubling his -1 contribution. With the focus on skippering the City man, we had a new and obvious alternative for the captaincy.

Today’s outcome also created further doubt that, even in a double Gameweek scenario, Ibrahimovic could struggle to rival the promise of Aguero, Kane or Sanchez when it comes to dealing the Triple Captain chip.

But Sanchez produced his own shockwaves, having been ousted to the bench by Arsene Wenger for the evening trip to Liverpool.

While the Chilean impressed and produced an assist from the bench, Wenger’s almost inexplicable decision was unexpected and unwelcome.

Those who turned the back on the Aguero Triple Captain option, banking on the inevitable Sanchez double Gameweek to come, now have to consider that Giroud’s pitch time remains a factor. There will also be further speculation on the relationship between player and manager, while Arsenal’s erratic form and morale remains a concern.

No doubt targeted for an early return to our squads from Gameweek 29 onwards, tonight’s teamsheet and lacklustre first-half from the Gunners may just slow the clamour to return for Sanchez’s services.

Suddenly, with Ibrahimovic potentially out of the equation and confidence in Sanchez taking a knock, those Man City assets may just stick around longer than expected.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

With so many strikers to choose from which ones are you going with?

    1. Aguero
    2. Lukaku
    3. Kane
    4. Costa
    5. Gabby

Lukaku to Gabby in week 30 seems a locked in transfer.

    Spurs v Everton

Everton are winless in eight games against Tottenham since December 2012, although the last three encounters have ended in draws (D5, L3).

The most recent 10 meetings have all ended either in a draw or a one-goal margin of victory.

Spurs have won their last eight top-flight games at White Hart Lane and are the only side yet to lose a Premier League home match this season (W11, D2).

The Toffees are unbeaten in nine league games (W6, D3) - their best run since a 10-match streak between October and December 2013.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Feels like this is going to go topsy-turvy and end up being 5-2 to Spurs.

I've got 3 EVE and 0 Spurs. Praying for a change to 343 with Holgate so that my two wing backs come into play. I think that's their most suited formation vs the better teams.

Would absolutely love a scrappy 0-1 thanks to Lukaku.

After the international break. Happens to coincide with their nice fixtures (GW31 onwards)

In the FPL app, when you hit "pick team" it's still displaying every team as having fixtures except for City and Stoke who appear as blank.

That error will probably cost people who play using mainly their mobile phones plenty of points.

There might be a strong case to be made for holding onto Aguero now if Ibra gets a ban and there's probably not a huge rush in getting Sanchez back...

If you were to WC before GW30, who would be "must have" players for you going forward (thinking about DGWs)?

    Sánchez, Kane, Alli/Eriksen, Walker (e.l.), Valencia/Shaw/Jones, Alonso, Costa/Hazard/Pedro, Gabbiadini, Yoshida/Stephens etc.?

The No.1 ranked player - only the WC chip left, only Sterling as a DGWer and even GW28 looking a bit dodgy ... the pack must surely smell blood ...

Literally about to post similar. Few behind him have all chips except TC( used this week) remaining. I think he's going to be caught. Which in a way is tough cos he's been top for about 14 weeks. But played his hand early

Fair play to him anyways. Made a lot of moves that I would never have made, but they have paid off.

He is just playing this because he wanted to prove to his son that he could win it (doubt he will). He doesn't really follow football that much from what I read.

Are we likely to know if Ibra's flying elbow is going to be reviewed by a disciplinary committee by tomorrow nights deadline, or is it likely to take longer to discover whether Kevin Friend match report states if he saw the incident or not ?

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    Gameweek 28 Template

With many FPL managers unprepared for the GWK 28 blanks those who have planned well should have a great chance to steal a march on their rivals.

But who will be the key players to own? How many 'key' players do you already have and how many hits are you prepared to take to have them?

To get the discussion started here's a reminder of the matches that are taking place, with some key players to consider (based on FPL form over the last 30 days)

Bournemouth v West Ham - Josh King (7.8 form average) is the only Bou player in form. Lanzini has a goal and an assist in the last four for the Hammers

Everton v WBA - Lukaku has a form average of 7.3. Coleman at 5.8 also looks key. McAuley the man in form for the Baggies, but this looks a tough fixture.

Hull v Swansea - There are no real stand outs among Hull's ranks in terms of form - with a 4 pt average N'Diaye has the highest. Re the Swans - some solid options here Llorente, Sigurdsson and Olsson all breach the 5 pt average mark.

Liverpool v Burnley - With an 8.3 average Mane is not only the most in form 'Pool player but is also the most in form player among the eight teams taking part. For Burnley Brady's 5.5 form average makes him the best. The Reds do tend to struggle against the 'weaker' teams so he could be a nice differential.

      As I see it, the five most important players are;

      Lukaku, Coleman
      Siggy
      Liverpool mid
      West Ham mid

      Mane, Lukaku are key.

After that Coutinho/Firmino and Coleman are important.

Mane and Lukaku will be the best captaincy shouts in GK 28 so yep, definitely key. As below, my worries about Liverpool though against on paper good sides makes me think Lukaku is marginally the better of the two.

I have Lukaku, Mane, Phillips, Coleman, Baines, Foster so far.
I am planning to get Siggy for Sterling for free, will happily take a hit to ship out Aguero/ Ibra but cant understand for whom? Llorente or Grey

My worries too - great against the better teams, suspect against the weak. I was confident going into the Arsenal game with Mane, ok with him v Burnley, but not looking to double up.

      Mane
      Sigurdsson
      Coleman for me.

Aim to own Josh King and Lukaku for one hit.

If Phillips and Carroll start I'll have XI....but as has been said before quality not quantity is what is likely to count.

If you've got 5-6 of the above listed players the others may be an irrelevance anyway. For example I have Evans and Brunt but I'd be surprised if they got more than 1pt each.

Definitely getting Llorente in, their fixtures and form are good now so double up with Siggy makes sense. Planning Aguero back to Lukaku and that will give me 8 next week (9 if you include Stan which I dont). The Everton boys looks strong. WBA look to be on holiday though so I imagine the trio of Foster Brunt and Phillips will return the square root of nothing.

I've played my WC to field the perfect 10 & have 3 Chelsea/Spurs on the bench. Will just work in heavy hitters for DGW as needed.

      Jakupovic (Hennessey)
      Coleman Baines Mawson Cresswell (Alonso)
      Mane Firmino Siggy King (Eriksen)
      Lukaku Llorente (Kane)

      Everton: Lukaku, Baines / Coleman
      Swansea: Siggy, Mawson, Llorente
      Bournemouth: King
      WBA: Brunt
      Hull: Jakupovic
      West Ham: Antonio, Lanzini
      Liverpool: Coutinho, Firmino, Mane
      Burnely: Heaton

Really you should only be looking at Liverpool, Everton and Swansea players over the long term.

Jaku is a cheap filler GK to keep on the bench.

WBA fixtures about to turn bad. West Ham average. Bournemouth and Burnley rubbish (apart from Heaton).

Liverpool and Everton are proper Top 7 PL sides - you can trust them over the long term to pick up points. Swansea are poor, but have shown an uptick in form, have some decent fixtures and some classy players Siggy, Llorente).

West Ham don't have a reliable striker, have a lot of average players who sometimes do something and Billic (despite being a defender himself) hasn't taught them how to defend. They are fortunate there is so much dross in the PL.

I like Antonio personally. Avoiding the Liverpool double up and think that he's better than anything Everton have to offer. It's true that West Ham aren't performing very well, but thing can only get better right? 😀

GW28 is one week. Pedro, Eriksen, Alli, Mata, Siggy are all better options than Antonio IMO. I agree Everton midfield is just a workhorse - nothing special from a FPL perspective. If you are getting 8 players out for GW28 that is decent IMO.

They are indeed, but not all at the same price. Antonio is cheap enough for a 4th mid and the fact he plays GW28 is only a bonus. Can't have them all!

I think you can do something like:

                  Grant / Jaku
Luiz / Vert / Funes Mori / Mawson / Yoshida
                  Mata / Siggy / Eriksen / Coutinho / Carroll
                  Kane / Costa / Lukaku

That team costs about £102m at current prices. But you get coverage of the Chelsea, Spurs and Everton defences. And a midfield and strike force that should deliver over the long term. 7 players in GW28 too.

Fixtures, but average form. Carroll - who knows when he is fit. Fonte was meant to shore up the defence - has not happened. Antonio and Lanzini inconsistent. Snodgrass in legal trouble.

Currently have 8 (plus Phillips). Don't have a LIV yet so will get one in for SIlva most likely later in the week.
I think Mawson is a great pick, I have him and he was so unlucky hitting the woodwork twice yesterday!!
Don't mind tripling up on SWA (Siggy, Llorente & Mawson) to be honest for a little while.

Heaton/Jaku, EVE def, Firmino/Mane, Siggy, Lukaku. Looking at 8/9 from:

        BUR/HUL
        EVE, wba, HUL/swa ?
        Siggy, LIV, whu/BOU, LIV/hul/wba
        Lukaku, Llorente

          those I consider key:

          Coleman or Baines
Couts / Mane / Firminho (or even 2 of the 3)
          Siggy
          Lukaku

That's it. With only 5 games it isn't going to be a high scoring gameweek

I am considering two hits. The reasoning behind this is that they would essentially be one hit, and I would have an ok team for GW29 anyways, and would be WCing in GW30 to get ready for the rest of the season and all the upcoming DGWs.

If I were to classify which players are must haves it would be something like this:

          1) Sigurdsson, Lukaku, Mané, Coleman
          2) Llorente, Firmino/Coutinho, King, Antonio/Lanzini/Snodgrass/Carroll, Phillips, Funes Mori/Baines, Brunt/McAuley
          3) Jakupovic, Heaton

I will probably have Jakupovic(/Heaton), Funes Mori, Brunt, Coutinho, Mané, Sigurdsson, King, Phillips, Lukaku and Llorente myself. sucks not having Coleman, but not sure if it is worth another hit to bring in a third defender. I usually have a philosophy where I never bring in defenders for hits, but I can use some hits on attackers (especially in weeks like these where a hit is basically half a hit).

The FFS template is something like:

          Heaton (Foster)
          Coleman Brunt/McAuley Mawson
          Mané Siggy Phillips [WHM mid]
          Lukaku

The remaining 2 slots are variable. I've got Fraser and am considering Llorente for a week or two.

Not sure there is a huge template because many will go for 8 or so players, but my team was planned a while ago only with City DGW to upset it a bit

          But generally ...

          Hull/WBA keeper

def - WBA, Everton, Swansea/Everton cheapie, Bournemouth, Bench

Mid - Liverpool, Swansea, Everton/WHU, Swansea/Everton cheapie Bench,

          Forwards - Everton, Swansea, Bench

          Maybe

          Foster, Jaku

          McAuley, Smith, Clyne, Coleman, Pieters

          Gylfi, Carroll, Coutinho, Sterling, Barkley

          Llorente, Ibra, Lukaku

Quite easy to tinker with to bring in FGW34 players

        7. Ruth_NZ
          • 9 Years

I will field 10 with one hit. I have to make my mind up whether the 10th will be King or a 2nd Liverpool midfielder (Firmino/Coutinho). If Zlatan gets banned I might even take 2 hits, bring Llorente in and field 11. A hit is only -2 when you have a short team and I intend to wildcard pretty soon anyway (probably GW29, latest GW30).

The only player I'd like but won't have will be Mawson. Possible GW28 team:

          Foster
          Maguire FunesMori Baines
          Antonio Mané Sigurdsson Coutinho/King
          Barnes Llorente Lukaku

          Heaton, Jaku
          Coleman, baines, Brunt, Maguire, Pieters
          Mane, siggy, Philips, Eriksson, sterling
          Lukaku, Barnes, kun

Pretty well set up, weighting up making one transfer and getting a Liverpool/west Ham mid or taking a hit and doing Kun to Llorente and sterling/Philips to coutinio.

This bag of sh%t gameweek is ruining my transfer plans.

I'm now gonna take a hit I think.

I'm gonna be forced into buying Mane rather than Coutinho as planned...rank is sinking since ownership around me is vast...Coutinho didn't look amazing yesterday and got subbed early yet again.

Also Ibra...oh Ibra...can't see you escaping a ban. Gonna ship for Llorente to soften the hit slightly.

My GW28 team the looks like:

          Heaton or Jaku
          Brunt Coleman Baines
          Mane Siggy TCarroll
          Lukaku Llorente

...9 players, benching Alonso, Eriksen, Aguero, Sterling, Yoshida.

Kane the comes in for Aguero GW29 as planned.

I then have funds galore for Sanchez buyback.

Lots of talk about 'best striker combinations' and everyone seems to be missing the player I have had as the first name on my teamsheet.

              Jermaine Defoe

              - Consistent
              - Well Priced
              - DGW to come
              - Nailed on
              - The best PPV striker
              - In a team who need to get results

He's been great all season. Gutted I got rid when I did. Now quite expensive too. Definitely one I'm targeting for the doubles (hoping it doesn't fall in the same week as gabbiadini)

Plays for a rubbish team that are getting worse. Compare to Llorente (Swansea improving and have decent set piece delivery) and Gabbiadini then not a great option IMO.

Anyone else avoiding watching spurs vs Everton? Eriksen and Lukaku out for me this week.

Let's find me one of those pubs that doesn't show football.

Actually what an opportunity, could take the other half out for grub and not worry about football being on. "Thought it'd be a nice change".

I'll try and watch if Kane is out. If not, I'm avoiding! Don't want a repeat of last week
