The Gameweek 17 Team News

Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata will miss tonight’s trip to Huddersfield Town, while Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey has been ruled out of their match at West Ham United.

Crystal Palace defender Mamadou Sakho faces a lengthy spell out following a calf injury, while a late decision will be made on Ben Mee ahead of Burnley’s home clash against Stoke City.

Here’s our summary of the key team news so far, with an array of big press conferences still to come this afternoon.

Matt Lowton looks unlikely to be fit for Burnley’s home encounter against Stoke City, with Phil Bardsley in line for another start. Meanwhile, a late call will be made on fellow defender Ben Mee.

The Potters, however, will again be without injured pair Bruno Martins Indi and Glen Johnson, with Jese Rodriguez still unavailable due to personal reasons.

Crystal Palace have been dealt a blow with the news that Mamadou Sakho faces a prolonged spell on the sidelines due to a calf injury, with Scott Dann is line to cement a starting berth. Joel Ward remains out but Yohan Cabaye has recovered from a bang to the knee and is fit to face Watford.

Marvin Zeegelaar will miss the trip to Selhurst Park after his appeal following the red card in the 1-0 defeat to Burnley was rejected, with Jose Holebas set for a first-team return. Elsewhere in defence, Kiko Femenia and Miguel Britos are remain doubts.

Huddersfield Town welcome back Rajiv van La Parra from suspension for the home clash against Chelsea, but on-loan midfielder Kasey Palmer is ineligible to face his parent club.

As for the Blues, they’ll be without Alvaro Morata, who is fatigued and nursing a back injury. Antonio Conte rolled out a striker-less formation the last time the Spaniard failed to start, with Eden Hazard backed by Pedro and Willian.

Danny Drinkwater returns to the squad following illness, while Victor Moses and Antonio Rudiger are among those pushing for recalls.

After being introduced from the bench in the 3-2 defeat to Leicester City following a thigh injury, Christian Atsu looks poised for a return to the teamsheet when Newcastle United host Everton. Jamaal Lascelles was an unused substitute at the weekend and may also return to the starting XI.

Aaron Lennon will be pushing for a recall for the Toffees at St James’ Park after coming on as a half-time substitute in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

Cedric Soares returned to training on Monday ahead of the home encounter against Leicester City, with a late decision to be made as to whether he’ll come straight back into the starting XI following a hamstring injury.

Shinji Okazaki is available for the Foxes after suffering a cut to the face against Newcastle last weekend.

Swansea City head coach Paul Clement revealed that Wayne Routledge is a doubt for the home meeting with Manchester City due to some muscle tightness, but Federico Fernandez is expected to return in central defence.

Following the Manchester derby, and with a home fixture with Tottenham Hotspur to come on Saturday, Pep Guardiola could rotate for the trip to the Liberty Stadium. Eliaquim Mangala is set to replace Vincent Kompany, who was forced off with a muscle injury on Sunday, while after being an unused substitute at the weekend, Sergio Aguero is expected to be handed a recall. Danilo, Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva are others who may come into contention for starts.

After only appearing as substitutes in the Merseyside derby, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino are expected to return to the starting XI for the home encounter against West Bromwich Albion. Daniel Sturridge (hamstring) remains a doubt.

For the Baggies, Matt Phillips remains a doubt ans Gareth Barry is still out.

Jose Mourinho will again be without the suspended Paul Pogba for the home clash against Bournemouth, while Marcos Rojo is a doubt after being forced off with a head injury in the Manchester derby. Phil Jones could be in line for a recall.

Adam Smith is available again for the Cherries after serving a one-match ban, while Harry Arter could push for a recall.

Ahead of Saturday’s trip to Man City, Mauricio Pochettino may hand starts to Serge Aurier and Danny Rose in the full-back positions for the home fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion. Moussa Sissoko is another who could return to the side, but Davinson Sanchez serves the second of his three-match ban.

The Seagulls have no fresh injury concerns, though Anthony Knockaert may be handed a recall after being left out for Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Huddersfield due to tactical reasons.

Following the 1-0 win over Chelsea, David Moyes could consider naming an unchanged starting XI for the visit of Arsenal to the London Stadium, though both Andy Carroll and Chicharito will push for starts having been named on the bench for the victory over Chelsea.

The Gunners will be without Aaron Ramsey, who picked up a hamstring injury during the 1-1 draw with Southampton. Shkodran Mustafi also remains out.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section, together with predicted line-ups ahead of this tonight’s 6.45pm deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter account for breaking news as the day unfolds.

What's the basis of this theory?
West Ham may not be great at home, but they're far worse when they're away.

If Kane only scores for Spurs when West ham play at home (does he?), then this is clearly pure coincidence.
I certainly wouldn't base any captaincy decisions on it.

Between Kane and Coutinho but I'm going for Coutinho I feel

Gw15 Captained Hazard after his rest. 15pts

Gw16 Captained Kane after his rest 12pts

Gw17 Coutinho just been rested midweek, on pens, set pieces, Liverpool on top form and I feel he'll score big today having scored 4 and assisted 3 in his last 2 starts. Almost scored a free last weekend also but was denied by a great save from Pickford.

Also, I don't Spurs play as well with Aurier and Rose and Brighton will be looking to imitate performances like Swansea's and Burnley's at Wembley this season. They'll won't roll over like Stoke

      Kane:
Brighton look a weary team and might well struggle in this one.
      He hauled last weekend.
He looked much fitter at the weekend than I've seen him for a while.

With this Morata news I have a lot of fires to put out this week. 3k OR rank but my rival in cash league is only 18 points behind. Any thoughts on the below? Cheers

    Courtois
    Mee* Kiko* Daniels
    Hazard Salah Coutinho Sterling RLC
    Kane Morata*

    Elliot Naughton Mbemba* McBurnie*

5 likely injured / non starters. 1 FT 0.0m in bank

    A) Daniels -> Tarkowksi (1 FT) and hope that Kiko and Mee are fit and just play Naughton

    B) Daniels + Naughton + McBurnie -> Kenny + Ogbonna + DCL (-8)

    C) Daniels + Naughton -> Tarkowski + Kenny (-4)

    D) Morata -> Firmino (bought Morata for 10.3) and play Daniels / Naughton

I think you could be right.

Stephens, Propper, Duffy, Dunk and Murray are running on empty.

Knockaert should earn a start. He'll be the only pair of fresh legs possibly.

I think this looks an ideal chance to rotate - and then save energy for the next two very winnable games.

With Morata out, play Yedlin or Niasse? Niasse unlikely to start after getting subbed at half time on Sunday?

Niasse coming off at half time had more to do with team shape. If anything, the fact that he did start vs LIV means that Allardyce thinks well enough of him.

I've seen comments that hits are not being taken into account for the FPL Cup. Is this correct? It's a bit bizarre if so, what's to stop someone making a new team every week just with the cup in mind? 😕

    1. Wild Rover

Or is it just that hits are taken into account for qualifying but not for seeding in the draw, ie they use gw rank for the draw?

Hits wasn't taken into account because 2 teams in my ML 1 scoring 31 didn't qualify and yet someone with 36 -12 did! Ridiculous imo

    Hi all,

Already on a -4. But I have Ramsey and Morata. With nothing in the bank, would you take a hit to replace one of them? I have Daniels or Duffy playing. I could also replace Daniels.

    1. No hit
    2. Morata > ?
    3. Ramsey > ?
    4. Daniels > ?

    Cheers in advance!

He's probably most likely to pay it back I think. And so does RMT.

Are you going to just leave the rest of the money in the bank for next week?

Yep, I'm happy with the rest of the team, I already sold Daniels. I think in your case I'd be tempted to upgrade Ramsey with the money but then I do love a hit 😉

I could get Cout and Firm for a Liverpool double up..

The second (third, really) hit would work out to:
            Cout (-4) or RLC?

    Alonso, Gomez, Christensen
    Salah, Richarlison, RLC, Grob, Sanchez
    Kane(c), Calvert-Lewin

Would be a hit to change anything.

I was planning to roll my FT this week but the Morata news combined with the Zeegelaar ban means I'm going to have to take action. I don't think Morata will be out long so I'm going to replace Zeegelaar. I've got nothing in the bank so it's a defender for 4.4 or less. The obvious choices are Ogbonna, Masuaka or Kenny. The comparison tools have the West Ham players pretty even. Ogbonna scored against City and Masuaka has a couple of assists, Kenny offers nothing except CS potential. It's a tough choice, what's everyone else thinking?

      Kenny.

It's getting to that stage to be honest. Kenny is cheap too, I just can't see anything other than holding out for a CS. At least with the West Ham players there is the chance of attacking returns too.

Interesting plan with Watford defenders. My only concern is that Femenia and Zeegalaar are their only decent defensive attacking prospects and chances of a CS have to be reduced without them in the side. Masuaka definitely interests me if he continues starting, he looked like a menace against Chelsea.

Worry is Mee and Kiko might not play and I’m afraid of Sterling being rested. I still don’t think it warrants a -4 even if I have to play with 10 men. (Again)

Hazard could run riot against a poor Huddersfield, especially if Conte chooses to play a false 9, with Pedro coming in, instead of Batshuayi. That Huddersfield defence have conceded a lot of goals recently, and Chelsea will be looking to make amends for the weekend loss to West Ham.

Well, well, woken up to a bit of disaster...

    Pickford (Elliot)
    Moreno* Kola Otamendi (Kiko* Mee*)
    Ramsey* Hazard(vs) Salah Young (Carroll**)
    Morata* Kane(c) Wilson**
    0.5ITB / 1FT

5 flagged players, plus two with limited pitch time. Should I…

    A) Transfer out Ramsey & Moreno > giving me a potential 9 sure starters
    B) Take three players out for a -8 > not sure which 3 yet
    C) Use the free hit > this calls for an emergency 😀

Is it worth to do Morata to Aguero if Im not gonna captain him?
Have a good feeling about him,but on the other side dont think its the best gw to move the armbrand away from Kane.
Have Morata and Mee in first 11,so I would need good returns from RLC/Ritchie/Fabregas/DCL
