Captains

Captain Poll – Gameweek 33

Our last poll was dominated by two players, Sergio Aguero and Dele Alli, who garnered more than half of all votes.

This latest run-down is set to be another close call, with two Golden Boot-chasing strikers looking like stand-out captaincy picks for their favourable home encounters in Gameweek 33.

Romelu Lukaku’s (10.4) sensational form in front of his own fans carried on at the weekend, with his brace against Leicester City meaning he has scored 12 goals in his last seven Goodison Park encounters and 23 in total this season – more than any other player.

Next up is a visit from a Burnley side that has conceded 30 times and kept just three clean sheets in their 16 league road trips, which should ensure the 45.4% owned Belgian is among this week’s frontrunners.

Prior to a three-match injury lay-off, Harry Kane (11.3) was also on a hot streak, finding the net six times between Gameweeks 24 and 27 to bring his season total to 19.

With a promising 30-minute run-out under his belt in Tottenham’s 4-0 rout of Watford on Saturday, he looks primed for interest for the visit of an obliging Bournemouth defence to White Hart Lane this weekend – the Cherries have shipped 14 goals and kept just one clean sheet in their last six away matches.

Already more than 36,000 FPL managers have brought in the England striker and his 9.6% ownership is set to rise further before the next deadline.

But while Kane looks likely to be the main attraction among Mauricco Pochetinno’s troops, Spurs’ midfield trio of Dele Alli (9.1), Christian Eriksen (8.8) and Son Heung-min (8.4) are others likely to feature prominently.

Against Watford, Son was outstanding, with a 19-point haul from two goals, an assist and maximum bonus returns. Should he be retained in the starting XI to support Kane as expected, the South Korean looks a strong bet to add to his 11 goals for the campaign. Since Saturday he is the most bought asset, with more than 53,000 new FPL managers.

Alli also got on the scoresheet, bagging his 16th goal of the season against the Hornets, while his Danish team-mate also demands attention with five goals and nine assists in front of his own fans.

Sergio Aguero (12.8), who pipped Alli to the summit of Gameweek 32’s poll by just 2% of the vote, also looks an enticing armband option ahead of Manchester City’s trip to Southampton. The Argentine’s strike against Hull City on Saturday was his fifth in six starts. The Saints, however, have proved resilient at home in recent weeks, with two clean sheets in their last four St Mary’s encounters.

In addition, the City marksman has not been an explosive option of late, with his last double-digit FPL points haul coming in Gameweek 13.

Liverpool’s fatigued Brazilian duo, Philippe Coutinho (8.4) and Roberto Firmino (8.6), were preserved away at Stoke City, but with a goal apiece from the bench, they are among other strong candidates in our poll’s chasing pack.

They take on a West Brom side incapable of keeping a clean sheet at The Hawthorns of late, with their last shut-out on home turf arriving against Stoke in Gameweek 24.

A trip to Middlesbrough would have ensured Alexis Sanchez (11.6) competed for the summit – if it had taken place earlier this season when he was fielded as a central striker. But being stranded on Arsenal’s left wing over his last four matches has curtailed his threat markedly and he’s scored just once across that period. Potential backers will be keeping a close eye on the 26.8%-owned Chilean’s performance at Crystal Palace tonight to see if he can revive his output.

Theo Walcott (7.4) and Mesut Ozil (9.4) are two more Gunners’ assets that will be closely monitored at Selhurst Park after impressing in recent matches. The German playmaker has registered a goal and assist in his last two, while Waclott has two strikes over the same period.

Both are also strong differential options, given they have an ownership base below 10%.

Interest in Chelsea duo Diego Costa (10.5) and Eden Hazard (10.3), as well as Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.4), is likely to be tempered when they face each other in a tricky clash at Old Trafford on Sunday.

This could see some voters instead decide to back a differential, with Troy Deeney (6.9) among the best options as he prepares to host a Swansea City side that has conceded 10 goals in their last six. The 7%-owned Hornets’ talisman has scored four in as many home starts and being reduced to a bench role against Spurs on Saturday should mean he’s well-rested for the Swans’ visit.

The Captain Poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under Recent Comments.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later ahead of the Gameweek 33 deadline when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article, offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Had I of not done Sterling>Alli last week I would have the funds for Lukaku>Kane now as planned. I'm glad I don't have that call to make now!

I'll go Lukaku(c) again. He might be of for Benteke next week so may as well have one last hurrah.

As a Liverpool fan and Sanchez owner 2-2 will be just fine with Sanchez on one goal preferably both-). Palace will be a little weakened in defence and Arsenal is always able to let in a goal or to no matter what opponent so I say a high draw or something like 3-2 Arsenal isn´t far away, I think.

      Morning All,

Best way to get Kane into this lot:

      Heaton - Foster
      Yoshi - Evans - Holebas - Davies - Robertson
      Sanchez - Firmino - Coutinho - Alli - Carroll
      Ibra - Lukaku - Gabbiadini

2FT and 0.3m in the bank.

      A) Ibra --> Kane (this week), followed by Lukaku & Firmino --> Ibra & Walcott (next week)
      B) Gabbiadini, Sanchez & Foster --> Kane, Walcott & Jaku/Pickford (-4)

I'm leaning towards B and sacrificing Sanchez. I can then get him back when I WC ahead of the doubles.

        Similar plan to me:

        a) Ibra > Kane this week and then Kane > Ibra for DGW or

        b) Llorente, Sánchez, McAuley > Kane, Walcott, Yoshida for - 4

        c) something else

        Current Team

        Grant

        Alonso, Davies, Valencia

        Alli, Sánchez, Sigurdsson, Lanzini

        Llorente, Ibrahimovic, Lukaku

Bench: Heaton, de Roon, McAuley, Amat

My only problem with Plan A is that I am left with Gabbi sat doing nothing. That, combined with Southampton's short term fixtures prior to the doubles makes me want to get rid.

      Heaton (Robinson)
Alonso - Baines - Davies (Brunt, Jones)
Alexis - Alli - Eriksen - Zaha (Carroll)
      Ibra - Lukaku - Carroll

      .3 ITB, 2FT. Have all 4 chips.

What to do here? I'm thinking Brunt to Holgate and enjoy double EVE defence vs Burnley. Then in GW34 use both FTs on Baines, Carroll > Bailly, Benteke.

Or should I do Brunt > Boro def?

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Gameweek 33 looks like a pivotal week with many scrambling to get Kane in to put the armband on him, while others sticking resolutely with Lukaku for the captaincy.

But are we ignoring others? What of Liverpool's visit to WBA? Or Arsenal's potentially lucrative trip to Teeside?

Who are you putting the armband on in Gameweek 33 and which player that you do not own do you fear the most?

I've Kane and Lukaku and currently favour the Spurs man due to their all round form and Bournemouth's leaky defence.

But Lukaku at home against a minnow looks a home banker too.

Going to go to the wire.

Currently I don't fear Chelsea or ManUtd assets due to the fixture.

Aguero doesn't bother me too. No double digit hauls in an age and Southampton can be good at home.

Lukaku vs that Burnley team away is a no brainer to me. We aren't even sure Kane will start yet!

As a Kane owner from right back when he first got injured through to DGW27 I fear a haul as I had planned to bring him in for Lukaku this week until I spent my funds on Alli last week. No way is it worth a -4 for me. And selling Ibra makes no sense prior to DGW34.

I am doing it. I can see Ibra blanking in two of the next three games and certainly wouldn't captain him in any of those games.

Would rather have Kane and will certainly C him.

It's not owning Sanchez (yet) that I fear the most

Will Kane play the full 90 like Lukaku though, Jonty? Will his minutes be managed?

Does that then limit Kane's window to get points?

Last time Kane was out he registered 72, 90, 90 run outs in his three comeback games.

I think he'll play full 90. He's going for the golden boot - as is Lukaku - plus if they maintain a better goal diff than Chelsea then that could be crucial if level on pts gwk 38.

Considering Eriksen. Not sure about getting rid of Kun as he is scoring, plus I'd like him to become Ibra for 34 anyway I suspect.

Eriksen has a good record of playing alongside Kane and getting a lot of points at home. Fancy it being his turn as well this weekend. Also own Alli and am hoping the two of them is enough cover!

        Fear Kane for sure.

        Lukaku's last 3 home games: 12 points, 16 points, 13 points.

If Sanchez gets a couple of goals today, it entirely changes everyone's perspective. It wouldn't be a 2-way dilemma for next week's captaincy (that is Lukaku and Kane). It will be difficult for people to bring in all 3 as well. I have all 3 but deciding whom to give that armband is going to be difficult.

If Sanchez doesn't do well today then I think a lot of people will rule him out for the (c) option next week. I think Walcott might emerge as a good bet for next week as well (if he does good today).

Lukaku (c) for me. I can't look past his home form.

My initial instinct was to fear Harry Kane. He sure did look terrific in his half-hour vs. Watford . . . but he hasn't
played in a month and just started training last week. His ownership right now is only 9.6%, and last week in
the top 10K his owndership was a mere 2.6%.

I'm sure many many managers will bring him in this week, but how much damage could he really do, even if he hauls?

I don't fear not owing anyone, as I own Sanchez, Alli, Erik, Cout, Kane and Kaku.

I guess my only fear is getting the captain wrong. It's basically Kane, who plays for the most in form attacking team, but may share the points, vs Kaku, who's team are not in such good form, but who dominates the points. Due to ownership, Kane becomes a differential, but I try hard to never work on that basis.

Usually i decide pretty fast who I´m gonna captain, but this week it´s a little bit tricky because I have Coutinho, Sanchez, Alli, Ibra and Aguero as my choices. Sanchez might put me on or completely of u think today. Ibra will stay in my team mainly because og strategic ML reasons (MLL has double Che defence) but not captain material so probably will go for one of the mids or Kun. As it stands now Cout is the most tempting but Alli is also under strong consideration atm. Anichebe will be my differential captain choice, whisch i think actually isn´t a bad choice-)
My fear; Kane and Lukaku certainly, although not as much as one would expect because I think that Kane willl need a little bit more time to settle in and Lukaku will face a sterner and tighter Burnley defence than the Leicester porosity which were shown yesterday.

I'm not bringing in Kane because I don't think he's the standout option this week by far enough to warrant such a short term move, when he's not the striker I'll want in that spot in week 34.

Capping Lukaku all day long, but own Kane, Alli, and Sanchez, so only really fearing Aguero.

He's scored heavily before from a wide position. He's a typical heavy-hitter - can score badly like anyone but every so often he comes up with a big score that makes him worth hanging on to.

Why wouldn't he? He's facing Ward, Kelly, Sakho (easily their best defender) and Schlupp. I'd say he has a good chance to score even if they park the bus. We'll see. Expect nothing and you will never be disappointed 😉

      Current team:

      Foster, Jakupovic
Alonso, Walker, Valencia, A. Smith, Holebas
      Sanchez, Alli, Eriksen, King, Capoue
      Vardy, Lukaku, Defoe

      Potential WC team:

      HENNESSEY, PICKFORD
      VERTONGHEN, BAILLY, HOLGATE, BARRAGHAN, YOSHIDA
      Sanchez, King, Alli, ZAHA, DAVIES
      KANE, IBRAHIMOVIC, Lukaku

Leaves me 2.2m itb to upgrade Barraghan and Zaha/King after GW34

The cap players are the players i would bring in.

Scout Pick Community Champion Lottery – Gameweek 33

Once again we are on the look out for a champion to represent the community to take on the Scout Picks and win the chance of a prize.

If you want to take part please email your FFS name and FPL ID number to community@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk .

The champion will then be selected at random shortly after the deadline of 11am tomorrow (Tuesday) and then be asked to submit their XI by Friday 12noon by emailing me at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

We only need 11 picks and please be mindful of the 84m budget. There’s no captain in the picks either and please stick to a designated FPL formation, including no more than three players from one team. No captain or chips will be applied.

At the end of the season the champion who beats the picks by the highest margin will win a £100 Amazon voucher.

The champion will be revealed in a midweek Scout Squad article on Tuesday, which will outline our initial thinking around the picks. Our and the champions picks will be revealed as usual the day before the first match of the Gameweek.

Should the community “Champion” fail to provide an initial or final Scout Pick selection, then an “Assistant Manager” chosen by us, will gain control of the selection to represent the community for the Gameweek in question.

      Can we think logically here.

Son just had the game of his life

      Kane just returning from injury

Surely at best, if Kane starts he will get 70 mins max to get him back to full match fitness?

Could always see them go back to the 4-2-3-1; I seem to remember them lining up that way a lot towards the end of last year, too.

        Something like:
        Lloris
        Walker Vertonghen Alderweireld Davies
        Dier Dembele
        Eriksen Alli Son
        Kane

they were out of sorts, but the quality was there. I think that Jose deserves more blame for that rather than Conte deserving more credit for sorting the mess out. That's not to devalue what Conte has done though

Looking at squads in total among top 6 it´s between Poch and Klopp for me. Both teams carrying through a lot of injuries and absentees to kee members in their squad, which in first case already where a little bit to tiny and to no extent in the neighbourhood in terms of quality players outside first eleven line-ups, compared to those of United, Chelsea, Arsenal and City.
