Scout Notes

International Scout Notes – Sunday

The Fantasy Premier League’s biggest midfield guns give it their Sunday best across Europe and Africa, while Harry Kane is at it again for an otherwise drab England.

Here are the notes from Sunday’s World Cup qualifiers.

Big hitters wield their influence

The four most popular midfielders in Fantasy Premier League were all in action last night.

And all four brought cheer, of varying sizes, to their owners.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (34.1%) hit a historic double for Egypt as they qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 27 years with a last-gasp 2-1 victory over Congo.

The Reds winger converted a 95th-minute penalty to win a tense match in which Premier League players Ahmed Hegazi, Ramadan Sobhi, who played 87 minutes, and Mohamed Elneny also featured, with West Brom centre-half Hegazi having one effort cleared off the line.

Salah now has seven goals in all competitions this season, but back-to-back matches against Manchester United and Chelsea will test a player whose 16.7% conversion rate is the second-worst among the top eight scorers from midfield.

United’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan (32.3%) opened the scoring for Armenia in their 1-1 draw away in Kazakhstan.

Mkhitaryan is the fourth most sold player since Gameweek 7 came to an end, with 101,000+ managers seeking pastures new as United’s schedule also stiffens – Jose Mourinho’s men face Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea over their next four fixtures.

Spurs’ Dele Alli (27.4%) is just below Mkhitaryan in the transfers-out table as more than 96,000 FPL bosses have reacted to a barren spell in which he hasn’t scored in the league since Gameweek 3.

Alli did provide two assists in Gameweek 6’s win over West Ham and followed that up with another one for England last night as he was fouled for the decisive penalty in the Three Lions’ underwhelming 1-0 win in Lithuania.

Spurs’ schedule is another that is turning tough – BOU LIV mun CRY ars – and trust in Alli is suffering as a result.

The same can’t be said for Alli’s team-mate Christian Eriksen (25.7%), who scored for Denmark for the second consecutive match, converting a penalty in the Danes’ 1-1 draw with Romania.

Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen and Leicester City keeper Kasper Schmeichel played the full 90 minutes alongside Eriksen, with FPL managers divided as to the midfielder’s appeal – nearly 44,000 have moved him out this week, with another 36,000+ acquiring his services.

It’s Kane…again

One Spurs player seemingly impervious to the matter of fixtures is Harry Kane.

The in-form striker scored the winner in Lithuania – his second goal of the international break – and also has six goals from his last four league matches.

That run has persuaded over 280,000 managers to make him FPL’s most bought player of the Gameweek, although he played the full 180 minutes of October’s international schedule.

England boss Gareth Southgate chopped and changed over that break, with the 14.0%-owned Man City full-back Kyle Walker given the night off in Vilnius. Spurs’ Kieran Trippier (4.3%) took his place.

On the other flank, West Ham’s Aaron Cresswell played at left wing-back as the 11.4%-owned Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand returned to his club as a precaution following recent back problems.

The 8.7%-owned United striker Marcus Rashford did start both matches, however, as did Walker’s team-mate John Stones (7.9%).

But another City man, Raheem Sterling (6.1%) watched on from the bench.

Mustafi adds to Gunners’ concerns…

Arsenal centre-half Shkodran Mustafi lasted only 36 minutes of Germany’s 5-1 win over Azerbaijan before limping off with a thigh problem.

German coach Joachim Low appears pessimistic on the prognosis for the defender.

“I think Mustafi has a muscle tear. It looks a bit more serious. A hamstring injury to a muscle tear, we have to wait for the exact diagnosis, but he’ll probably be out for a long time.”

With Laurent Koscielny missing the Gameweek 7 victory over Brighton with ongoing Achilles problems, Arsene Wenger’s defence is suddenly appearing uncertain ahead of their visit to Watford next weekend.

The Gunners have kept four consecutive clean sheets prior to that Gameweek 8 trip, with Nacho Monreal collecting over 75,000 new owners as the third most signed defender over the break.

Calum Chambers is also recovering from a hip problem, so it would appear that Rob Holding (4.7) is set to retain his start in the back three should Mustafi – as expected – be sidelined for a sustained period.

Emre Can and Antonio Rudiger scored for the Germans, while Leroy Sane provided an assist in a convincing victory.

The Liverpool and Man City players started and finished the match, while Chelsea’s Rudiger came on in the 22nd minute.

Elsewhere…

A Chris Brunt own goal proved decisive in Norway’s 1-0 win over Northern Ireland.

Bournemouth’s Josh King missed the fixture with a hamstring problem picked up in Norway’s 8-0 drubbing of San Marino on Thursday, but Brunt, Gareth McAuley, Jonny Evans and Steven Davis all played the full match for the visitors.

Andrew Robertson, Darren Fletcher and Matty Phillips started and finished Scotland’s 2-2 draw in Slovenia, while Crystal Palace’s James McArthur played 79 minutes.

I have already done so, many, many times. Still.

Plus numbers good, minus numbers bad. Bigger better - or worse.

      HOME 150, away 200 = light blue
      HOME -200, away -150 = light red

      HOME 325, away 400 = dark blue

Nobody. It is calculated on an algorithm. The numbers change slightly every week, depending upon league results.

The algorithm is applied equally to every team. No exceptions, no opinions.

However, the algorithm was designed by me, and tweaked by me, with help from others, notably GreenWindmill and TorresMagic ™.

    Silva, Eriksen, Richarlison
    Jesus, Kane, Vardy

    subs: Elliott --- Choupo-Moting, Stephens, ----

I think Mbemba has lost his place? If I decide to go with a fodder could just also save that 0.1 from Mbemba -> Hüne. Mee and Dunk could be sensible choice to get 15 players who actually play.

Thanks for your thoughts. I agree with the risks concerning no Lukaku. Plan is to go to GW12 with two FT's and get him back in then. Eriksen -> Coutinho could be on the cards for GW10 but lots can happen between now and then.

i would go with A, but only because i am one of those who gets nervous if i have a player that doesn´t play syndrom. I guess you will be fine without a fifth defender, but in this case i´m actually not sure if Ward over Mee is worth the difference between a non playing and a playing fifth defender. But you wil have some cash itb so difficult to tell, really. It´s your dime. Nice team, and GL

I've gone punty in Calvert-Lewin because I'd rather have minimal confidence in a 5.0 player than anyone 8.0+.

DCL isn't exactly 'nailed', but in some ways he could be considered for pitch time every game at least. He's unlikely to suddenly not feature at all. And at 5.0 it's probably the maximum price for a burden-free benching. Happy to play 4-4-2, but equally happy to play DCL in a 3-4-3 or 4-3-3 depending on fixtures.

Just can't bring myself to be relying on Vardy. And have stayed well and truly clear of Firminho all season, which I am unlikely to sway from.

Chelsea in race to get N’Golo Kante and Alvaro Morata ahead of Roma visit.

Although Morata had indicated he could be ready for the Premier League trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday, Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte is unlikely to take any chances over the striker’s fitness ahead of the visit of Roma to Stamford Bridge next Wednesday.

Chelsea expect to have a better idea of Kanté’s exact injury by Wednesday, but it is unlikely they will make any announcement on it ahead of Conte’s scheduled Friday press conference.

Grade 2 hamstrings usually takes 2 weeks to recover from and normally it would require one week of full training so i say the likeliest outcome is Watford home, if the grade is judged corectly by the doctors. He could be ready earlier but that will involve quite a risk it will occur again. As he is their only recognised striker and Conte relies very much on him i think the chance is that he even delays it to the Carabao cup or GW11.
But, we will know this clearer when Conte speaks later in the week-)

RMWCT (I know it doesn't have Kane, decided to spread the funds around)

    Fabs/Elliott
    Yoshida, Daniels, Monreal, Davies, Jones
    Gross, Brady, Coutinho, Mkhi, Sterling
    Jesus, Morata, Joselu
3.1m itb - to get Aguero back and to put in Lukaku for Morata til he's back.

Daniels, Yoshida are in existing team and doing well, so loath to drop them.
Monreal is on fire and good season long (well til next WC) bet.
Davies, is at least a good way to increase TV even if his current form slumps a little.
Jones is defintie season keeper, Mourinho likes his CS's in big games

I'd consider Monreal to Holding to generate the funds to upgrade Mbemba. I also find it a bit Spursy but maybe that's a good thing.

Don't know if I fancy RLC Carroll double-up. Other than that , pretty template, and quite good. But you might need a differential to climb the OR

Agreed, I was thinking of Davis Eriksen to Cedric Hazard but seemed a bit mad

That would be too punty. Hazard could be a differential, but messes up rest of team at his price. Silva -> Sané or Sterling maybe? Or what about Fabregas, and spend the extra funds to upgrade RLC?

On free hit, it may not be a double or blanking week but thought it could be a good time to use as some semi predictable fixtures

    Fab (Pereira)

    Bavies Otamendi Ward Azpi Maguire

    Hazard Erik Silva (Sims Carrick)

    Kane(c) Jesus (Quaner)

Was prob a mistake to use it but was on -8 because of injuries and think there are points to be had this week.

    1. Pompel

Might be as good time as any to use it. I'd swap Silva for Sterling or Sané this GW - higher ceiling,

Was planning to WC this IB, buth with Morata injury, and already having Silva for City cover I 've been thinking that it would be sufficient to do Hegazi-> Luiz, leaving me with this team:

    Fab/Eliot
    Davies Jones* Luiz Mee Long
    Salah Silva Mooy Atsu* TC
    Lukaku* Kane Lacazette

If Lukaku is indeed injured, I'll get Jesus for a -4 this GW.
But Lacazette + the cheap mids still doesn't fill me with confidence, so should I wildcard this team this GW anyway? Or ride it out to assess whether to keep Lukaku, and set up team with either Morata/ Hazard + Azpi ?

Are we doing Jose a disservice by assuming he'll park the bus vs Liverpool? Granted, that was how he set up vs top 6 sides last season, but he'll have more confidence in this current Utd squad and will fancy them to put a couple past a poor Liverpool defence.

    Tactical surprises afoot I reckon.

Yeah, they might start on the front foot and try to nick a goal before parking the bus but otherwise I think it'll be largely defensive and relying on exploiting Liverpool's weakness at set pieces.

You could be right, but in any case it seems like Lovren, who is a mediocre cb does posess the quality to tame Lukaku, Matip also tends to play tremendously vs the big strikers.
United haven´t played vs a top team this season so as pr moment it´s difficult to tell how it turns out. Lots of factors here, i think the first goal, if there´´s any, will determine the game for one, and also there´s is weaknesess in both sides to explore, and i think those internal fights will also contribute tothe outcome.

I´m not so sure that United is that good in defense wen they meet teams that actually know how to attack... i´ve watched most of Uniteds matches and even if they haven´t conceded there is certainly some weak links in that team. Against another team than Palace and Swansea they would have let in goals, more down to poor finishes than great defense.

Watched the game vs Real Madrid in preseason and they looked awful and could have conceded 5 before Real decided to shift all their players.
