The Community Round Up

With Aaron Ramsey and Wayne Rooney sidelined through injury and suspension last weekend, the community was on the hunt for heavy hitters in attack and midfield. Luckily our community articles, hot topics and members’ tables were packed full of detailed analysis on their replacement options.

The Community Articles

Arvin-ation nailed this week’s top discussion this week; what to do with Ramsey and Rooney, now that both players are set for spells on the sidelines. Here’s his list of the likely replacements owners should be considering. He was back again at the end of the week with another excellent trio of attacking punts ahead of the forthcoming Gameweek.

I decided to turn my hand to community writing and have a look at Fantasy Premier League bonus points among defenders, to discover which players were benefitting this season. Applebonkers, Doosra and Ludo are among those to add some excellent research to the ensuing discussion.

Among our regular scribes, Sticky Mockwell was back with a look at the latest bandwagons and how well they performed in light of heavy previous investment. So far his hypotheses that patience is a virtue remains true.

The start of a new month means we take a look back at the previous few weeks’ articles to find the community’s favourite piece. The overwhelming victor in September’s poll was The Puntmaster with his weekly trio of differentials. So far two out of three of his picks have brought points each week. We strongly urge you to read his recommendations for Gameweek 7.

Another regular writer to do well in the poll was The Sarjeant. He was back again this week with his regular Form Guide ahead of the weekend’s fixtures.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

Hottest Topics

The Rooney and Ramsey injuries also dominated community discussion this week as we looked over the likely replacements. Why is Pardew for Kinnear started the discussion off with this look at the best exit strategy for the pair.

For Ramsey owners, Southampton’s midfield assets have caught the eye for many community members such as The Sarjeant, who started this discussion on the credentials of Dusan Tadic and Sadio Mane to replace the Arsenal man. Ludo, meanwhile, had been looking closer to home for a Ramsey replacement and recommended his team mate Jack Wilshire.

Gylfi Sigurdsson’s poor recent form also came under the spotlight, with some community members considering ditching the Swansea midfielder. However, Triggerlips has been looking into his underlying statistics though and urges patience.

Another tough decision the community faced this week was which champion should represent them in this week’s Scout Picks. With the community champions trailing in fourth behind Paul, Mark and myself, you decided to opt for Greenwindmill’s idea to base his picks on our Rate My Team computer’s decisions. Can a machine prosper where mere mortals have failed?

There was less optimism about the technology behind UEFA’s official Champion League Fantasy game, after further technical glitches left managers frustrated this week. Our man Anorak has been in touch with the game’s developers and called on the community to give their views on where it has gone wrong. He’ll be passing on all your comments to them in a bid to help them improve their game.

Finally, Costra Nostra has been taking a look at one of the golden rules of Fantasy management of never taking a hit for a defender. He urged Fantasy managers to instead think beyond that initial Gameweek and look to the long term when assessing whether the initial four-point hit will subsequently pay off.

The Members Tables

Those eyeing up Southampton’s Tadic as a Ramsey replacement will be pleased to see the midfielder featuring prominently in my top crossers table.

For those looking for Wayne Rooney replacements Erlando’s minutes per chance on goal table is a must read. This has a minimum criteria of 10 shots in the box to ensure only the most potent attackers are featured.

Meanwhile, Gigging Order has been taking an in depth look at the Chelsea midfield to assess the best option from its midfield in terms of goal attempts.

Following my community article on FPL bonus points among defenders, Doosra has updated his Bonus Burglars table to pinpoint defenders who perform well in the key Bonus Point System (BPS) areas of clearances, blocks and interceptions (CBI), tackles and passing.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

The Tinkerman has shot to the top of the Fantasy Football Scout moderators and contributors league in FPL, closely followed by Paul, who tops the moderators and contributors league in the Ultimate Fantasy Premier League game.

The Puffinboy Memorial Cup league, dedicated to one of our first posters, continues to be led by Rasping Drive, who with an overall rank of 636th also has number one status in the FFS Old Farts Club and FFS Dead Zone leagues.

AZ’s Early Bird Cup reaches the final this weekend when DT42, who defeated AZ in last week’s semi-final, will take on Dusan Citizen, who dispatched Costa- The Chosen One.

Finally, India and New Zealand are the teams to beat in the FFS UEFA Hockey World Cup team competition. They are the current group leaders going into this weekend’s matches.

He's going on holiday. Ramsey and Rooney injuries probably forced his hand as well, he had enough problems with his team as it was.

He would have WCed the following week. Seems silly to take a hit before a WC. I don't see what the problem is with WCing now If I'm honest. It will probably prevent him from getting a red arrow.

i'd say a lot of folks were in same boat. Rooney suspended, Ramsey injured, Wisdom unavilable... lots of high ownership players had red flags this week & when you see more than 2 or 3 reds on your teamsheet it's usually time to hit the panic button, regardless of proximity to an international break

Honestly, I think Clyne is a player you can no longer bench comfortably. Southampton's fullbacks are so involved in everything they do going forward that you always run the risk of missing out on attacking points from Clyne on the bench. And he's also proved he can spank in a worldie from 40 yards vs. arsenal in the league cup last week... i just leave him as fire & forget starting defender for the forseeable!

So I would say bench Moore out of that lot... home fixture or not... burnley actually created a lot of chances vs. wbrom... i know they have injuries etc. but if in doubt, back the championship defence to concede 🙂

Yeah, the best of it is - he is a genuinely talented defender & a good FPL player at that price. Hull can't afford to be benching him imo, but bruce might have wanted him to settle the head a bit after that red card.

Yeah? I think in those cases you always have to let the keeper try to make a save rather than risk a red card + suspension, unless its in the last 5 or 10 mins. Worst case they would have been a goal down, but it was so early in the match they would have had plenty of time to recover with 11 men on the field... As it was they held their own with 10 men... 20-20 hindsight is a wonderful thing, eh! 😉

I am not not getting him in if that's what you mean 😉 I'd say a bunch of folks will actually captain him GW8... I wouldn't have the minerals for that, but definitely want to get him in.
Also Mané... I think he will be Southampton's theo walcott equivalent, points galore, get him @ 6.9 while u still can!!

haha for me i have no fixed period to wc..i will wc when i cannot field even 10 men and a few others that i want to ditch...or there is a huge fixture change (though it can be dealt with if we plan beforehand)

will generally spend a hit or 2 along the way to get the latest bandwagons, if i can save till dgw then good as many will be spending hits to get in players like last season, which effectively covered the hits i took earlier on

      Impossible to say

Swansea have only conceded 1 goal at home, and that's while they were down to 10 men for half the match v Soton. Newcastle haven't scored away from home once.
Leicester haven't kept a single clean sheet at home this season but as everyone know, Burnley have only scored once, at home, in the opening fixture of the season.

Chambers looks a decent option but I can't fit him in in that defense. I've opted for Welbeck over Kun which allows me to have a strong defense and midfield. Money in the bank helps too

I think Welbeck's actual worth is 9-10 million, he is an absolute steal at that price! At 5 million less, he can match Kun's output over the next fixtures (not in this one though!)

Agreed, but you're missing something important. If Welbeck matches Kun's output and assuming both do equally well, teams with Kun, Pelle and Costa can easily do Pelle to Welbeck assuming Welbeck's price explodes. What are you going to do if Kun does well and his price blows out of control? Good luck chopping and changing then.

I have 2 million in the bank for that very purpose. Another downgrade and I can get Sturridge, if need be. I won't be getting Aguero at all, I can't see the hamstrings lasting past November. He has to score two goals every game to justify his price, imo.

And the great think is we have so many other options this year. The likes of Lukaku/Benteke offer great alternatives as well.

They will lose a lot of games from GW12. They look invincible now but it won't last when the real testing fixtures come. Once they concede 1 goal Clyne and co are likely to get 2pts.

I've done quite a lot of research on this, and according to my findings, Mannone/Foster is the best out of a bad bunch.

        Ok. Thanks 🙂

Also if you had to pick one out of ADM and fabregas, who would you pick and why?

I'm not a fan of both, to be honest. But I would pick Fab:

-plays for most attacking team in the league
-has set pieces and giants to aim at!
-plays in the hole for last 25 odd minutes
          -he is cheaper

To be fair, United are very attacking. And ADM has a lot of set pieces especially that Rooney is out for 3 games.

ADM has McNair and Rojo to aim at.
Fab on the other hand has Cahill,Terry,Ivan,Matic,Costa!

I'm not a fan of rotating keepers. Not sure there is a big enough difference between CSs at home and away.

Is Lukaku sufficient cover for Everton's tasty fixtures, you reckon?

I don't believe in the term coverage, but Lukaku is a good option

You don't believe in coverage... yet you have Welbeck. 😆

Waste of a striker spot I reckon. Lukaku normally does better in harder fixtures too.

Has been used as a winger lately which is a problem.

He's still their main man for goals though, and he'll be even better when he's put back in the middle.

Those who said they were waiting until gw 8 to wildcard, who exactly will you be getting at isnt already there? Seems to be only the baines fixation and welbeck. Who can be bought in with normal transfers

It seems to me that most teams almost there anyway. If i was given another wildcard to use next week , wouldnt know what to do with it anyway. Are those that intended to wokdcard next week going ahead regardless, or holding off?

I never understand those who "plan" a WC in advance.

Just doesn't make any sense to me.

Didn't you use your WC in week 3 and ended up with similar players, maybe just a different back line. Same concept for most. An increase in tv and fixture changes.... I'm making around 7 changes next week. The entire back line and at least 2 in the middle and up front

I consider myself somewhat lucky that I had a successful GW4 wildcard that looks similar to the current template wildcard. I've been able to enjoy the rise in TV since then. The template could be too expensive for managers that did not participate in these price increases.

One final sanity check before bed:

    Mannone (Krul)
    Baines Moreno Naylor (Moore Clyne)
ADM (v) Fab Siggy Sterling (Boyd)
    Costa (c) Pelle Welbeck

Planning to stick to Costa (c) this week after 2 successful gambles (ADM GW5, Pelle GW6). Please tell me everything is perfect so I can get some sleep.

    ON a WC :

    A) Play 3-5-2 with Fabregas

    or,

    B) 3-4-3 with Pelle ?
