International Minutes Assessed – Part Two

After rolling out Part One of our assessment of the recent internationals, we now examine the pitch time and distance travelled by those players who ply their trade for the remaining ten teams.

NEWCASTLE

With Tim Krul already a long-term absentee, Rafael Benitez was dealt a cruel blow following the season-ending knee injury suffered by Rob Elliot whilst playing for Republic of Ireland against Slovakia on Tuesday night. Chancel Mbemba and Henri Saivet will need to be assessed following long flights back to Tyneside.

Rob Elliot – Republic of Ireland (25/03 (h) v Switzerland in Dublin and 29/03 (h) v Slovakia in Dublin) – Unused substitute against Switzerland, but started against Slovakia. Suffered a serious knee injury during the first-half on Tuesday night, and has been ruled out for at least six months.

NORWICH

None of the Norwich players face long flights back, with Dieumerci Mbokani not featuring for DR Congo after being at Zaventem Airport in Brussels during the terror attacks. Alex Neil shouldn’t have too many issues as he prepares his side for the crunch home clash against fellow strugglers Newcastle on Saturday.

Martin Olsson – Sweden (24/03 (a) v Turkey in Antalya and 29/03 (h) v Czech Republic in Solna) – Was an unused substitute against Turkey, but played the full match against Czech Republic, registering an assist in the 1-1 draw.

Graziano Pelle – Italy (24/03 (h) v Spain in Udine and 29/03 (a) v Germany in Munich) – Only played 60 minutes against Spain.

SUNDERLAND

Only DeAndre Yedlin played 180 minutes over the international break among the Black Cats’ squad, so the right-back will need to be assessed when he returns, with Sunderland facing a crucial home fixture against West Brom on Saturday.

Jordan Pickford – England U21 (26/03 (a) v Switzerland in Thun) – 90 minutes.

WEST BROM

Salomon Rondon wasn’t available for Venezuela’s second match due to suspension and flew back to the midlands early as a result. That should increase the chances the striker starts against Sunderland on Saturday, while Gareth McAuley, Jonny Evans and James Chester all played their second matches on Monday night, giving them some extra recovery time.

Gareth McAuley and Jonny Evans – Northern Ireland (24/03 (a) v Wales in Cardiff and 28/03 (h) v Slovenia in Belfast) – McAuley played the full 90 minutes and Cardiff, before playing just the first-half against Slovenia. WEST HAM

Slaven Bilic will be delighted with the form Dimitri Payet showed on the international duty, while he’ll also be pleased he only played 27 minutes on Tuesday night, meaning he should be pretty fresh for the home encounter against Crystal Palace. Enner Valencia did play both matches for Ecuador though, and will need to be assessed on his return to the club.

So I stupidly don't have my WC left but have drafted the below for GW 35 which I can get taking a 4 point hit in both GW34 and GW35.

A little worried about no United or WHam defence and am lumped with Yaya (already have him). I intend to bench boost! Thoughts?

    ROBLES, HENESSEY
    BELLERIN, GABRIEL, SAKHO, Fuchs, Wolly
    PAYET, YAYA, FIRMINO, OZIL, Mahrez
    AGUERO, LUKAKU, Kane.

Who would you drop for Payet?

Willian (Great fixture - but is he still on set pieces)
    or
Siggy (In form against a Stoke team that have lost there number 1 keeper)

I'm leaning towards Willian to Payet?

    Decided to go for Firmino.

Crunching raw numbers... I do not want be blinded by the number of double game weeks!

Idea was to check average PPG for popular players and compare it to the PPG for the last 4 GW, to investigate which players are over performing, underperforming or being consistent. From this most of us should come up with somewhat a shorter list of candidates for our DGW/WC/BB team.

Then my idea was for each club and each player position add a probability how overall PPG will go towards the end of the season. This should be done using "Doosra’s alternative view" of fixtures. Example: Arsenal has some really favorable fixtures and I think that goalkeeper and defenders should boost their overall PPG and thus their expected overall PPG should go up for at least 20% thus their PPG should end at 120% of their current overall PPG, and in the end maybe extrapolate expected pts per gameweek for each of your shortlist players. Yes, I know, thats why we have RMT tool in the Members area, but someone could do this for all members of FFS community.

When this calculation (tool) is done, then each of us can identify the core of the team (which is more or less template-ish around these parts) and afterwards add punts...

Since I have no time, I'm willing to send all data I have come up with to the person who will (at least try to) finish this and post end product. The trickiest thing to do is to properly identify how each position will go towards the end of the season AND this is probably the subjective part in this formula/tool for which everyone could insert their own probability numbers.
