Best Liverpool players to sign on FPL in 2018/19 – Complete Members’ Analysis

Mohamed Salah will once again be the key Fantasy Premier League asset to own among Liverpool’s ranks this season.

The Egyptian may have had a huge price hike to £13.0m for 2018/19 but his underlying attacking numbers suggest he deserves to be valued higher than any of his colleagues.

However, there are plenty of cheaper options to consider for our FPL squads too as Jurgen Klopp’s men have a particularly appealing start to the new season.

Fantasy Football Scout members can view the important data in the Members’ Area and also read our full analysis of it below to help them pick the best possible FPL team this season.

Probably not the wisest given there are so many good £4.5m & £5m options out there

keep Patricio, with Douglas you'll feel forced to play him most weeks just because he plays LWB

ok he could be the new Alonso but there's a difference, he plays for Wolves not Chelsea 😛

      Sterling wont start the season.
I prefer to spend 11ish on Aubam than on the rotation risks Aguero and Jesus.

I want some City attack considering how irresistible their fixtures are from gw2.

So it’s between Sané and Mahrez.

I'd downgrade Lamela to another cheapie (5.0) who rotates well with Kenedy, and then use the additional 1.5 to upgrade Austin/Wood to Tosun/King/Zaha/Arnie.

Based on the Crystal Palace/Newcastle rotation theory you could have something like this.

    Hennessey Elliot
    Tomkins WanBissaka Yedlin Mbemba Daniels
    Salah Mahrez Deulofeu Loftus-Cheek Fellaini
    Aubameyang Aguero Firmino

So your defenders never play a top 6 team, Daniels plays every week, the front 3 are exceptional, Salah and Mahrez stay put.

Basicly that rotation sounds good first. But when you look at it closer, wolves start with good run of fixtures and Newcastle after that. So not for me. If Dubravka was 4.5 I would have gk situation solved though.

If you are thinking of the Palace/Newcastle strategy, I’d recommend that you actually look at their fixtures. There are better ways to execute on the strategy than the one you are suggesting or the most common one others are suggesting right now.

With a maximum price of: 5.0

Check the first name, and realize that everyone who thinks they are going to find a hidden gem - Cairney or Hughes or Kenedy or Costa or Wilshere or McArthur or Pritchard - should probably just get Kante instead. Maybe the casuals know something we don't.

There’s something to this. Will Kante accumulate goals and assists? No. But he’ll get you 100 pts give or take and they are predictable, steady points. Guessing on the 5.0 or 5.5 that turns into Groß or Mooy is nothing more than that. Some will get it right, many in that price bracket will get it wrong. And, of all the top 6, Chelsea might be the best to clog up 1 of 3 spots on someone like Kante.

McArthur, VLP, Hughes. To name a few.

I like a couple 6.5 strikers as much as Tosun and have favorable fixtures.

Would upgrade Daniels. Not sure I would be excited to get 17/18 points for 18/19 price. Do you think he’s going to get better with age?

I’d wait and see on Pogba. I like the price and potential to work higher up the pitch with Fred and Matic manning the double pivot. I just think you can wait and see. Particularly with likely post-WC rest.

Overall, I’d look to get more in the XI with security of starts and less risk of rotation.

So my previous RMT turned into discussion of something else, but I'd like to narrow down my question to ask for people's opinions on rotation.

I like the idea of filling your starting defender slots with premium assets, but I wonder if you can get more out of the 5.0 to 5.5 options by covering their poor fixtures. Originally I was thinking about going with Douglas and benching him for his poorest fixtures, but my most recent iteration looks like this:

    XXX - Coleman - PVA - Cedric - Wan-Bissaka
    XXX - XXX - XXX - Deulofeu - Hughes
    XXX - XXX - XXX

The XXXs represent permant starters in the XI.

On the face of it, it may seem foolhardy to double on cheapish Watford and Crystal Palace players, since you might want to rotate these players (something you can't do it they're from the same team).

The 4.0-5.5 options are essentially a 6-way rotation for 3 slots, here. For example, I can bench Deulofeu in GWs 4, 5 and 7 by playing Wan-Bissaka or Cedric those weeks. Therefore, I don't need a midfielder to rotate with Deulofeu. Likewise I can bench PVA in GW2, by replacing him with Cedric, and Coleman in GW 6, by replacing him with Wan-Bissaka or Hughes.

In my opinion, one advantage of this approach are that I get to pick Hughes and Deulofeu together, players who I personally think are the best value at their price-points (currently anyway). I don't have to find another player (perhaps Lookman) who I don't think is great value, to sit on my bench, wasting money every week, waiting for GWs 4, 5 and 7.

Another advantage is that I can cover PVA and Coleman's poor fixtures. Sure, there are only 2 of them in my list, but this squeezes out a little extra value which others might not be getting if they are planning to play them every week, or if they are avoiding due to these fixtures. I also think Cedric and Wan-Bissaka are possibiliy the best value at their price point.

Finally, this allows me to focus on transfers in the more expensive areas on the pitch, which are where the points are being sprayed around. If one of my 6 is injured or dropped, it also shouldn't be a disaster for the "rotation".

    So:
    - What do you think of a 5 or 6-way "rotation" plan.
    - Are you planning to play any of your 4.5-5.5 players week-in, week-out?
    - Are there any other combinations of players or teams who you are looking to rotate in 2s - 6s?

Many thanks for your time 😀

jokes aside, I think the rotation plan is too vulnerable eg. what if WB does not start like we think we will? and what if one becomes injured or is off form

the only player I'm playing week in, week out 5.5 or less is Deulofeu but I don't like the idea of it, but then I know I can transfer them to another bandwagon around the 5m mark if one comes along

I'm rotating Leicester-Wolves-Palace-Cardiff in my defence whilst playing 2 every week

        1. Deulofail
          • 8 Years
          5 years, 9 months ago

The more players in the rotation, the less probrematic it is if one is absent, because you have more viable options to replace the absent player. If you're intent on rotating 2 players, and one is injured, you're more screwed than if you have a bunch of players with decent fixtures anyway.

It's really just about covering some poor fixtures than a pure rotation. If you end up having to play Deu in poor fixtures, you may find yourself at a disadvantage to someone who has Cedric playing those weeks. To sell him you need to use a transfer and might lose value if he's been the great value that we're hoping for. You might find yourself in a Richarlison situation where you're keeping him for poor fixtures due to money invested, but he ends up never performing again that season 😀

        • 8 Years

Fair enough. A bit early to tell, but at 4.0, he'll be the 3rd sub every week, so I can afford to lose him. He also isn't necessary for the rotation in this example, as Cedric can be used instead. If Wan-Bissaka doesn't look nailed enough, I can look to downgrade hughes to upgrade him, use another 4.0, or just perma-bench him instead of wasting money on a 3rd sub 🙂

There are a few things that can happen:

      - The premium teams keep a lot of clean sheets and the Watford/Palace teams don't. If you've gone for premium defenders, you'll do well.
      - The premium teams keep a lot of clean sheets and the Watford/Palace teams also keep a lot of clean sheets. Nobody misses out too much, but slight upper hand to the cheap defence teams, as they'll have invested in better midfielders and attackers.
      - There are very few clean sheets for any teams. Slight upper hand to the cheap defence teams, as they'll have invested in better midfielders and attackers.

However, you can flip the argument on its head and apply the same logic to the midfielders/attackers. Maybe Salah, Aubameyang, Firmino, Sane, Mahrez all fail miserably and the cheap ones like Jota, Cairney, Wood, Tosun flourish. In that case, my argument doesn't make too much sense. 🙂

        😆

Well I would still have one premium defender (top-6 team) in this system. But you could always widen it to two, which gives you one fewer player to cover the poor fixture(s) of, if you're even bothered about the poor fixture(s) 🙂

PVA and Coleman may be fixture proof due to their offensive inclination - you dont want to bench them.

        • 8 Years
        5 years, 9 months ago

Sure you could see it that way, but the chances of a clean sheet are still diminished against the top 6. So I would argue that they are not fixture proof. They are popular options because they have good fixtures, after all, rather than despite poor fixtures. I only propose to cover Coleman away to Arsenal and PVA at home to Liverpool. 🙂

Fair enough, I can see your point.
They are popular options beacasue of the fixtures - granted but also (in my opinion) due to the fact that Coleman is somewhat FPL legend and PVA is one of the few defenders that look like may expload any game any time.
I will own one of them two and most likely will never bench.

Fair enough. Never benching seems to be the only consideration around here anyway. Nobody seems to see merit in my idea so I'll just keep it to myself 😆

Rotating makes sense and when works can be really satisfying, the problem is - football not always makes sense. How many times I've rotated the GK's only to keep the higher scoring one on the bench....

Sure, but it's about optimising the fixtures isn't it? Fixtures an even bigger factor in our decisions at the beginning of the season, too, because we don't have as much information to go on.

I like PVA, Coleman and Cedric in isolation, but I don’t know that I want them to comprise 60% of my defense. If I’m investing money in my defense, I want more nailed defenders from top 6 sides. I know that there is risk of rotation, but I think in the next month we’ll learn more and you can assemble an expensive, defense with top 6 representation.

Will Emerson start ahead of Alonso?

Also what do people think of Hughes? I think him and McCarthur are the best 5.0 midfield options considering their fixtures. Had McCarthur last season and he was very solid given his price. I may look at Kenedy after that depending on how he is doing.

    Also RMT please....
    Patricio
    Mendy Van Dijk Bailly Davies
    Lookman Salah Sanchez Mane Hughes
    Auba

Bench: Boruc, Sorloth, Wan Bisaka, Quaner

I think Patricio is more than good enough to keep the GK spot all season without rotation. We saw how well Fabianski did last season with save points playing for a bottom half team. I think Wolves will do well this season, their defensive record is strong and there will be plenty of save points there for the taking. Lets also not forget Patricio was one of 30 players nominated for the 2016 Ballon d'Or award. The boy is good.

I will look to swap Bailly with an Arsenal defender in GW 3 (Most likley Bellerin or Sokratis) and also swap Davies for a Chelsea defender in gameweek 3, once Rose is back in the fold and once I know how the Chelsea defence actually looks.

Wan Bisaka and Sorloth actually look like starters from the friendlies so far so they will not just be bench fodder. I can rotate them with Hughesor Lookman when needs be

I wrote the artcle on Friday, intended as a funny kneejerk reaction to the fantasy that Ward could be Liverpool's #1. Granted, I couldn't fit it all into the submission box, so I had to cut out all of the funny.

Judging by your comments on the article and on the most recent article at the time, though, you woun't have noticed, because it's clear that you haven't actually read it. The information is there if you want it. If you don't want it, then there's no need to mouth off about it.

It is a maverick move, not only because he was the highest points scorer in FPL history last season, but hes also the most owned fantasy asset for the upcoming season. Almost half (46.5%) have him in their teams so yes I would say it is somewhat of a maverick move, considering you will be suffer if he does well (and the majority of people will captain him regularly also).
