Best Liverpool players to sign on FPL in 2018/19 – Complete Members’ Analysis

Mohamed Salah will once again be the key Fantasy Premier League asset to own among Liverpool’s ranks this season.

The Egyptian may have had a huge price hike to £13.0m for 2018/19 but his underlying attacking numbers suggest he deserves to be valued higher than any of his colleagues.

However, there are plenty of cheaper options to consider for our FPL squads too as Jurgen Klopp’s men have a particularly appealing start to the new season.

Fantasy Football Scout members can view the important data in the Members’ Area and also read our full analysis of it below to help them pick the best possible FPL team this season.

  1. Community Shield - opening round relevance

How much do Community Shield lineups indicate opening day Premier League lineups? Hearing a lot of "we'll know the lineup once the Community Shield comes along 😉 " posts. I thought I'd investigate this myself. I've gone back four seasons. Didn't go to five because Wigan played while in the Championship was already underway, so results would have been weird that year.

Depends on the team and how well, or not, any players did in any tournaments before hand (minutes played). I'm not sure any stats are really that valid from one season to the next tbh.

it's difficult to guess, hopefully we will have a decent idea of the chelsea line up for gw1 from the community shield but with city a little more difficult to predict due to the size of their squad one week will make a massive difference to who will be available

Basically rotation has already started and they treat the community shield as any other game. I fell for the Iwobi trap last season because of community shield.

Some manager will reward a player for a good pre season by giving them a place in the charity shield, as was the case with Iwobe

Very nice. As others have highlighted, you can't generalise 8.9/11 to the new season, but it's still very useful to confirm that usually the lineup from the Shield is much like the lineup of the first gameweek, and interesting to have the information laid our so we can see which players made it and which didn't. Thank you. (MVP: Sanogo)

Hello gents. Who would you drop anyone from this team?

    Pope 4.0

    Robertson Smalling PVA (Dunk/Daniels)

    Salah Grob Milivojevic Doucoure 5.0

    Firmino King Aubameyang

    I tried to choose players

    A. who should get good gametime
    B. who have reasonable fixtures (mostly!)
    C. who have some type of track record

As soon as a bargain appears I'm on the bandwagon!

Not at all happy with those cheap mids who are likely to blank often and total lack of MCI coverage. Even Fernandinho should be considered with that structure. If the bargain in the mid is not cheap enough, it is not straight swap.

One interesting rotation pair is Wolves and Hud. If I checked correctly they will not meet any of the top 6 same time. So my gk plan atm is Patricio & Lössl. Not saying that it is better compared to some others, but at least looks okay to me and "my kind of of differential". Fabianski has some difficult fixtures and is not without risk either.

Not planning to start with any other hud players, but something to think about later if there happens something positive.

I've never been one to be excited by unproven Championship players, but I am interested in Jota.

The only thing I would point out off the top of my head is that Wilson played very few games in 2015/16 due to injury, and looked very promising before that (hat-trick vs. West Ham springs to mind).

Also as a sidenote, promoted goalkeepers have fared very well indeed. Ryan and Lossl were great last year, Heaton the year before that, Gomes with Watford etc.

i think the promoted teams tend to start well in general it's a little further down the line due to squad size and pace of the prem that grinds them down so not too worried about starting with a couple of players

I don't have anything more than anecdotal evidence, but my impression is that the side promoted via the play-offs has an especially strong start. Huddersfield last year (0-3 win vs. Palace), Hull the year before that also started with a win.

That is an awesome point, Trig! When they are camped out in retreat and their opponent has high possession time then it changes the entire outlook for these promoted teams. That one quick sentence by you snaps me back to sanity when I was eyeballing all of Sess, Jota, and Cairney. Cheers!

Certainly not to be overlooked. The only promoted player I'm currently looking at is Douglas, but he's currently out of my team as I'm concerned that even being involved in 19 goals in the Championship might not be enough to make him better than some of the options around him https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2018/07/10/experienced-sokratis-can-bolster-arsenal-defence/?hc_page=2#hc_comment_18347525

IMO - Jota good but a bit pricey in FPL as a new player , but I think he was brought in mind for the Prem eventually

not so much value in Wolves so more risky at 5.0 Douglas and wolves needs to perform but is on some free kicks and most corners

Cardiff are interesting in that Patterson is a 5.5 Mid (5.2 def in Sky) and Ralls 5.0 is on pens

      Ignoring Fulham for now

Jota and ralls in team at the min

Don't see the point in having a 5.5 defender on your bench, especially one like Stones who may not be ready for GW1.

See very few West Ham players in these RMTs

They've got a proper manager. Signed a goalie, two centre backs, a right back and finally found a Nobel replacement in Wilshere not to mention 2 quality signings in Yarmolenko and Felipe Anderson. Basically strengthened everything they needed to.

They could be an FPL goldmine this season

Arsenal are a better team than West Ham (historically, squad-wise etc.), as much as it hurts to say.

They're always capable of scoring and it's only their first two that are 'tough'.

the reason could be that City and partly Chelsea will most likely field a second string team or players that aren´t back in good shape/fitness, therefore one could speculate in Arsenals, as they have nice fixtures from gw3, and both Auba and Mkhi could be gold from gw, both in terms of goals but also price, i guess the reason is also partly that the other teams big guns are more unvertain at this moment, as we know very little about when we could expect them to be back. Some wil play but some won´t, as of now, we don´t know which it would be.

Arsenal’s fixtures are tremendous starting GW3. For West Ham, the fixtures are tough until GW10. I think that’s mostly what’s going on.

Almost everyone assumed they’d have Fabianski and Arnie in their sides until the fixtures were announced. If West Ham had Everton’s opening schedule you’d see Fab, Arnie and Yarmo/Wilshere in just about every team.

I guess it's the fixtures that put people off, but I agree, West Ham could be great for FPL. For what it's worth I have the 'casual pick' (i.e. Fabianski), and I'll monitor Arnautovic to make sure he starts up front in the friendlies. If he does, he'll probably end up as my 3rd striker, I consider him fixture-proof.

Lots of unknowns in terms on how long it will take the new players and manager to settle in.

Just look at their fixtures in the medium to long term that would even frighten the bravest fpl managers away.

Their fixtures take a turn for the better after gw13 and if the look like they can do the business by then maybe they will warrant some investment.

Looks good on paper but beside the goalkeeper and Wilshere i have my doubts, Yarmolenko, is he really a quality signing? Strugdled a bit outside Ukraine and from what i´ve seen will possibly going to have to have some time to adjust to the hightempo game in England. Anderson is talented but a player that is quite unpredictable in outcome, it´s either good or hapless. They wil need time to settle and away to Liverpool, it´s a wait and see.

Guess the following is rather template, but how's she looking?

    DDG
    Robertson / Coleman / Cedric
    Salah / Mahrez / Deulofeu / Cairney
    Aubameyang / Firmino / Tosun

    Foster // Kenedy / Tomkins / Peltier

Toying with Aguero over Aubameyang, but still time to decide and tinker (a thousand times over, no doubt). Anything to worry about yet?

Coleman is an absolute steal at 5.5! Only dilemma based on what you have would be whether Salah is worth the 13.0 or not. On paper you can make a much more balanced team if you have KDB instead of him for example. Would also free up your Mahrex spot, who I think will be very prone to rotation.

Wouldn't go anywhere near Aguero after the job share with Jesus last year, which I think will continue. Only other question would be whether you start with Auba or play Lukaku first 2 games (assuming he recovers from WC) and bring Auba in, in wk3

Semifinalists from the World Cup are almost guaranteed not to play in the first round... at least in my humble opinion... Having Salah for the first two rounds makes sense.. he can easily shift him out on two ft's and improve elsewhere in gw3

    Thoughts on this team?

    Begovic/Ryan

    Bailey/Clyne/Keane/Cedric/Wan-Bissaka

    Salah/Sanchez/Mkhitaryan/Stephens/4.5

    Aguero/Firmino/Tosun

Sanchez is just a placeholder for De bruyne or another city mid for the first couple of rounds... My plan atm is to do Sanchez + Salah + Tosun --> Auba + Mane + KDB on 3 ft.... But the team also gives me flexibility in terms of other options like Aguero --> Auba if he shares to much gametime with Jesus... I can basically get anyone in with two FT's without ruining the team and the 4-3-3 structure and also shift easily to a 3-4-3 with the two heavy priced mids.

If you're thinking of ditching Salah after 2 game weeks, why not start with Mane and free up the cash from the beginning?
      I'm having the same dilemma...
Undoubtedly Salah will be a beast again, but will he be a 13.0M beast? Needs to score 250pts+ to justify that sort of price.

He will be my captain in the first two rounds... I think taking a hit (at a maximum) to remove him and make a stronger team is worth it... Don't see any stronger candidates than him for the first gameweek(s).. Aguero might be as good an option for the second, but in springs to mind that Jesus could challenge him for the striker spot.. I don't trust Firmino, Mane nor Sanchez with the armband.

Oh and btw, Salah just needs to outscore everyone else in the game to be worth having as long as you captain him... As soon as I won't be captaining him anymore, he is out of my team. At such a point, he will be too expensive

Clyne is too short-term and Stephens is fpl rubbish. Rather have that Mkhi & 4.5 in a 6.5 & 5.0, should do more then you have breathing room to rotate the defenders.

Clyne might be short term, but TAA is the same price.. so its an easy shift.. Oh and the RB for liverpool is definetely up for grasp if he can regain the same form he had before the injury.. at that time he was miles better than TAA

If Chelsea change of formation hurts Alonso, interested in people’s opinions on Zappacosta v Emerson. Wouldn’t a back four of Azpi, Zappacosta, Christensen, and Rudiger be the most defensively sound and capable of adapting to Sarri’s style? Azpi could play either FB position, so it seems like it comes down to Zappacosta v Emerson.

Zappa is a RB so if Alonso loses the gig it looks like Emerson is the winner with Azpi RB.

Nah he's right footed, you've seen all the assist to Morata. He's no CB in a 4 though, too small but he was fine @RCB as that basically is a RB spot when Moses was bombing forward. Note they always had 2 big guys in the other 2 cb spots.

Any 5.0 Pool def worth having?
    TAA? Clyne?

    Thinking 4-4-2 along following lines:

    Ederson
    Bailly; Coleman; 5.0; [Tomkins/NEW rotation]
    Salah; KDB; Siggy; Deulofeo
    Auba; Firmino

    4.0 keeper; 4.5 mid (Stephens/ Chab); 4.5 striker (Kamara/Quaner)

Plumping for Robbo would mean a midfield downgrade that I would rather not make.

if history has thought us something, it is that Bournemouth are slow starters and usually lekas at the beginning of season to then revert to a good epriod, usually late autumn, till a bit over christmas then revert to bad again when they reached the safety line. Palace is a bit uncertain so for me it is Fabianski and Foster, Gracia is a defensive minded coach, usually gets his team to be solid at the back. Fab is Fabulous

Thoughts on Gabriel Jesus? He played in all four games in all competitions where Mendy played at least half of the game and in those four games he scored five goals. Pep also plays him as a lone striker, as a striker next to Kun, and a winger.

Doubt he plays the opening 2 games. Personally I don't like him as he is too passive

Cheers! Why don’t you think he’ll play the opening two games? Radio didn’t get that far in the World Cup. I agree though that he doesn’t always look that great but the way city score goals he should get some

The QFs are quite deep into the tourney especially since he played all the games.

Anyone else considering a punt on Llorente with Kane looking like missing first few games? Big punt

even if he was nailed on to play, i wouldn't take that punt. And i would expect son to take that role so i'm going to go for him

Auba, because he is nailed. Pep will rotating Jesus and Aguero.

Short term Aguero, long term Auba...

Auba if you don't like pre-planning transfers.

Kun then transfer Auba in gw 3 if you don't mind planning transfers

Was thinking this, but Auba tempts me since I can go Sane or Mahrez in midfield.

Yeah hate their first two, but you never know they can get some points. Was set on Kun, but his roation risk is huge.

Sane and Mahrez are rotation proned... not that Aguero isn't... KDB is the only one to be nailed on week in week out...

        2nd option is solid imo

I keep thinking I either need Salah or Kane long term for the captaincy potential... Think they will be pretty even this year.. maybe a slight advantage for Kane given I can't help but think Salah overperformed last year and is playing as winger, whereas Kane plays as striker. I also like the prospect of Aubamayang.. but not quite confident on captaining him week in week out. Aguero is too much a risk, as he will most likely be rotated with Jesus every now and then.

So which treble do you prefer?

    A) Salah + Firmino + Tosun
    B) Kane + Mane + Tosun + 1.0 itb
    C) Kane + FIrmino + 8.0 mid (or 7 mid + 1 itb)

    1. Cofinho
      • 7 Years

A, liverpool players are involved in a lot of goals, so A without doubt.

Pep will rotate Aguero and Jesus all the time, better go with Auba or maybe even Lukaku

Hi. I think Salah have advantage . Even he play as a winger, his position is like striker.

Winger classified as Mid, so every goal he get will have more point. This is how he broke the record as the most point score.

He sign new contract. Should be more dangerous right now imo.

Kane by the way is a great player, buy if Salah's form continue, we need him as captain in Most Every weeks.

Personally don't think Salah is worth 13m though I doubt that's a popular thought on here. Last season he produced one of the all time great PL seasons from the past 25 years and his price reflects it. He needs to replicate it in order to justify that price tag. I'm sure he'll do well, but not THAT well.
Kane certainly not worth getting for the first few weeks. Looked dead on his feet from late in the Colombia game onwards. Most of the Spurs first team went too deep into the tournament for their big price players to be considered in the opening few Gameweeks.

I'd go Firmino + Mane + Tosun and strengthen elsewhere

Hi guys , newbie here. Feel great can give comment and ask something now.

May I know why Miki more popular than Ramsey as I see Ramsey's point per game is higher?

How about this lot? Beauty or beast?

    Fabianski, 4.5
Azpi, Ota, Robertson, Palace 4.0 and Paltier

Salah (captain everyday and night haha), Mahrez, Ramsey /Miki, Mili, Stephens

    Aguero, Tosun, Sorloth.

Don’t know what you’ve got left in the bank but I would downgrade where you need too and get Firmino up front instead of Tosun

Good idea, sadly only 0.5m itb. Try to downgrade Ramsey but not so much choice in 5.5 bracket.

        Not convinced by promoted teams.

Could downgrade Ota or Azpi too Coleman or Bailly and could downgrade Mili too maybe Deulofeu...few ideas for you mate that would get you Firmino

The reason why I want to downgrade Ramsey is because I do not convinced he is nailed or not. I also do not know why many people choose Mikithryan over Ramsey. Maybe the factor is nailedness?

For the case of Ota and Azpi, I love them. They featured in players of the season and have better value. Checked by ppm divide by price. Even better than many players up front.

The reason I choose pricy players up front mostly because captaincy factor.

Thats why I pay Salah. To have so many players maybe not. Buy, yeah Firmino maybe a good shout if Salah dont perform for Liv.

Mahrez in my team because I think he can have higher ceiling. Still premium defenders beat him in 'value'

            1. NIKO.

Think people are picking Mikhy because he’s cheaper but he is a rotation risk where as if Ramsey can stay fit the manager has near enough said he will be one of the first names on the team sheet

Fair shout obviously up to you but think you’ve got areas you can easily downgrade to get Firmino in that won’t affect you that much but think Firmino will easily out score Tosun

              Good luck

                Thanks for the reply.

Firmino is superior than Tosun and have better team. I will choose him over Tosun anydays if money is not the problem.

You are right. If Bobby run riot and Salah injured or something, I will consider where to downgrade as there are many choices in medium defenders bracket. Aguero soon to be Auba have to stay.

Cheers. Good Luck. Thanks again mate .

    RMT please guys

    DDG - Speroni
    TTA-Cedric-Bavies-Douglas-Daniels
    Salah-DSilva-Sess-Sane-Hughes
    Aguero-Tosun-Quarner

Realy think Sessegnon is going to be a sensation this season.

Thoughts on my selection so far?
