Fantasy Football book ‘Wasting Your Wildcard’ is now out

We are delighted to announce Fantasy Football book ‘Wasting Your Wildcard‘ has now been released.

Written by regular site contributor David Wardale and fully endorsed by Fantasy Football Scout, it should help you plug the painful gap between the end of the World Cup and start of the 2018/19 Premier League season, which is not far away now.

Subtitled ‘The Method and Madness of Fantasy Football’, the book is being published by Penguin’s respected sports imprint, Yellow Jersey Press, and is packed with hints and tips from some of the best Fantasy managers out there.

But it is as much about the people as the game, with stories of glory and despair, mini-league skulduggery and humiliating failure and the strange grip the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) in particular has on managers from Australia to Zimbabwe and just about everywhere in between.

There are in-depth interviews with FPL champions and Fantasy-mad Saudi princes, a comprehensive look at the eternal conflict that is stats versus ‘the eye test’ and chapters on the history of the game, the all-conquering beast that is Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and what the future of Fantasy Football might look like.

There’s also a revealing section on our very own Mark Sutherns, detailing the methods behind his successful approach to playing FPL.

Written by a fan for the fans, we think Wasting Your Wildcard will inform and entertain in equal measure, while grappling with the reasons behind why we, as supposedly grown-up men and women, cannot resist playing a game of footballing dress-up.

Order ‘Wasting Your Wildcard’ with Waterstones HERE.

Australian fans can order through Booktopia.

Ok so here is my "final" hahaha sure buddy team:

Fabianski/Forster (rotation H fixtures through the whole season)
    Lowton/Tomkins/Baines/Peltier/Daniels
    Sane/Salah/Richarlison/Dacoure/Jota
    Aguero/Firmino/Bobby Reid

Looking at first 5 GW or so

Not sure on doucoure. 6 mil seems a bit much for him maybe you could downgrade and improve the defence

Solid looking team. Have you considered Begovic as your rotational partner, Southampton don't seem that good defensively.

I have but have Daniels instead (hoping he can score a couple)
I think Saints will be better this year. I prefer the rotation H fixtures between Forster and Fabianski

Mcarthy is more likely to be first choice for Southampton - I had Forster too originally.

    RMT would be massively appreciated.

    Fabiansky, McCarthy

    Robertson Shaw Holebas Daniels Wan-bissaka

    Sane Sanchez Pedro Mkytarian Stephens

    Aguero Aubameyang Arnautovic

    Thanks Guys

      Why is Sanchez so popular?
Doesn't seem like he represents much value.

        For my money:

        - Sanchez costs £10.5m.
        - United's first game is at home to a Leicester team who should be weaker than last season (Mahrez gone, potentially Schmeichel too).
        - United's second game is away at a defensively poor Brighton.
        - Sanchez will likely start as a lone striker with Martial and Mata out wide (both providers, for the most part).
        - After those two fixtures, it is an easy, straight swap to KdB who should be back from WC duty.

your back three may not start GW1
Masuaku is playing LB, he is wasted in your team as he may not get any attacking points

    Thoughts on my team please:

    Foster
    Williams - Ward - Daniels
    Salah - Sane - Pedro - Milivojevic - Richarl
    Kane - Firmino

    Fabi, Tomkins, Pettier, Kamara

Defence is a bit weak, pedro and mili are a bit punty and kane may not start first few games and does tend not to score in aug.

      Daniels may not play
      Kane may not start GW1
      Wait and see on Pedro
Mili relies on Pens for points
      Not sure on Williams

Despite lining up in a double pivot beside Guendouzi, Ramsey is taking up the positions of a number 10. No surprises there then.

      More so than Mki?

He's more nailed than Mkhi, yes. There's talk that he's been offered the captaincy. Doesn't necessarily mean a better fantasy prospect than Mkhi.

    Hello all,

Apologies if this has already been discussed, link me if so,

I've not watched the match, but reading reports United played with a 4-4-2, or 3-5-2 system last night, any confirmation, or thoughts on this, and how it would affect potential united assets in fpl?

I would say most games united play will be 4 at the back. Last season they did play a few with three at the back though like in the champions league

    Rate my team:
First 3 GWs. After that all world cup player should be back, so I'll maximise FTs to upgrade weak areas.

    3-4-3
    GK: Alisson
Def: Van Dijk, Shaw & Tarkowski
Mid: Sanchez, Salah, Richarlison & Jota
    Fwd: Augero, Wood & Tosun

Bench: Speroni, Tomkins, Wan-Bissaka & Lennon

    £0.0mil itb.

    Your thoughts please.

    Fab. 4.0
    Mendy. Tompkins. Lowton. Robertson. (Wan-Bissaka).
    Salah. Eriksen. Martial. Costa. (Ward).
    Aguero. Auba. (Kamara)

Tompkins will become another 4.5 defender, but not sure who yet, as I don't want a CP double up at the back.

Not sure about Martial, this fallout with Mourinho looks like he could be on the way out. Could switch to Anderson or Richarlison. There will be at least one playing 4.5m Everton defender aswell, not sure which one yet do!

        Cheers

What fall out? I have missed this. He will definitely go if he is unlikely to start. Was always planning on keeping him for 2 weeks then he would become Ramsey or Mki.

        But may get Richarlison.

Cheers for the Everton 4.5 heads up. Would be a great addition, will wait and see who emerges

He's left the US tour to return home for the birth of his 2nd child, I think the media have blown it up as a fall out as it fits their narrative of 'Martial wants out', not sure there is anything more to it than that

    29 min Arsenal 0 Atletico 0
Lacazette gets out-muscled in the Atletico box and ends up giving away a free-kick. That sort of thing happens quite often to Lacazette.

Obviously, what’s with everyone acting like arsenal are the new Real Madrid / city? Mkhi most likely won’t feature or will flop. And not sure why anyone would even consider laca, Abu is the only one worth consideration imo

They're just trying to unsettle Leicester the same way Man City did with Mahrez in the winter window. I doubt they'll want to pay 70 million or so for him, even Alderweireld will be cheaper.

If they are smart they will have an agreement that he won't feature in that match....unlikely anyway given his late involvement in the WC
