How Sterling’s position change has affected his FPL form

With four goals and three assists over the international break, Raheem Sterling‘s (£11.6m) sky-high Fantasy stock has reached stratospheric levels as we approach Double Gameweek 32.

The Manchester City winger scored a hat-trick in his last Premier League appearance, too, bringing his total number of double-digit hauls in 2018/19 to eight – four of them coming in this calendar year alone.

Sterling registers more Fantasy Premier League points per match on average (7.3) than any other top-flight player this season and it seems likely that there will be few active FPL managers going into Gameweek 32 without his services.

Having started the first four league matches of 2019 on the right wing, Sterling has switched over to the left flank in his last six top-flight appearances.

It was, indeed, from a starting role on the left of a 4-3-3 that Sterling scored his hat-tricks for City and England over the last three weeks.

The imminent return to fitness of Kevin De Bruyne (£9.7m) and Fernandinho (£5.3m) could be a significant development in terms of Sterling’s starting position, as it would allow Bernardo Silva (£7.5m) to return to the right-wing role that Pep Guardiola has largely used the Portuguese midfielder in since Gameweek 25.

That would leave Sterling free to play on the left flank – although with Riyad Mahrez (£8.2m) and Leroy Sane (£9.3m) also champing at the bit for a start, there could be any number of permutations in City’s front three in the upcoming matches against Cardiff City and Fulham.

Nevertheless, Guardiola has clearly favoured Sterling on the left flank since the beginning of February and it is perhaps worth comparing his output on either wing ahead of Double Gameweek 32.

Just worried about not having Spurs cover, but do feel Pedro could haul even if he doesnt start both.

Kane nailed. Might get something against Liverpool and should get something against Palace, although a cricket score unlikely.
          BUT
Kane very expensive. Kaku or Higuain could easily do as well or better than him and gives you plent extra to spread round so you don't need to consider the likes of Pedro, McArthur or Duffy.

my two favorite FPL podcasts, two slightly different views on their FH teams, do you feel one is more on to something than the other:

FML FPL: no pogba, stats have been poor of later and slightly over priced, a spurs mid (Son or Alli) potentially is better. Minimum of 4 at the back, but strong advocates at 5 at the back. Top 3 essential players are Kun, Sterling and Hazard.

Always Cheating: Kane is a must, all teams should be looking at fitting him in, along with Pogba. This means Hazard likely to miss out and to play 4 at the back. Top 3 essential players are Kun, Sterling and Kane

Both say double chels, man city def, man utd def and palace def, which all makes sense. I've still got the Scoutcast on the way home from work to catch up on

Fair point, the podcasts across the pond make me think outside the box as listen to them first. Scoutcast puts me back in the right track later in the week and I usually come to my own conclusions that somewhere in between both

That’s a bit harsh on always cheating, they have fantastic ranks and certainly can be considered skilled players

    3. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
      • 14 Years

The Kane one is a bit odd...

I just don’t see Spurs scoring 6 or 7 goals in those 2 games, whereas that is a very realistic possibility with City/Chelsea & Man Utd’s fixtures

    4. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
      • 14 Years
      5 years, 2 months ago

I also think FML FPL’s (Walsh in particular) very strong advocation of Ederson over Dilva was a bit wide of the mark

If Ederson gets a clean sheet he gets 6 points, Dilva gets 3 - so literally one attacking return is all Dilva needs, and he could easily get 2 or 3

      1. Now I'm Panicking
        • 9 Years
        5 years, 2 months ago

Exactly this - Ederson is going to get at best in all likelihood 12 or 13 points. Man City could score at least 10 goals in these two games - give daddy a big slice of that attacking pie.

I don’t buy into this 4/5 at the back at all. Any team I make looks to have much more big score potential with 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 teams I can make. Theres some great options for the front 7 I don’t want to miss one exploding chasing double/triple clean sheets from united and Chelsea

One CS & one assist over two games (without bonus) is eleven points, you'd happily take that for a defenders price if it allowed you to have the right heavy hitters in attack.

    Ederson
    AWB - Duffy - Luiz - Schlupp
    Hazard - Sterling - Pogba - Pedro
    Aguero - Kane

    what we thinking?

a little worried over gametime for AWB/Schlupp/Pedro but not sure on replacements

    A) Kane & Pedro
    B) Higuaín & Eriksen

With this chat about Bats/Zaha up front. Do we realistically think palace will do well away against spurs? Or are we just getting them for the game vs huddersfield?

Huddersfield for me everything in the Spurs game is a bonus

If you believe Palace are good on the counter attack then why not? Spurs will go at them with it being their first game at home, Palace will get plenty of chances to counter.

If Zaha is not fit they are not as threatening, pressers will be key.
