Despite finishing as the top-scoring forward in 2018/19, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) is not expected to be a popular choice at the start of this new campaign.

In this first article of the Numbers Game series, we take a deep dive into virtually every statistic recorded by Arsenal in their first year under Unai Emery to assess their potential for 2019/20.

We will be producing one of these for each FPL side that competed in the Premier League last season between now and Gameweek 1.

As this uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members area, only those signed up for 2019/20 can view the article.

Tempted to brave it with 3 budget forwards. My only query is With Deeney, Gray, Deulofeu and Success, who is going to be nailed for Watford?

    Current team:

    Begovic
    Robertson Alonso Digne
    Mane Sterling Siggy Zaha
    Jiminez King Deulofeu

Subs: £4.0m GK, Kelly, El Mo, Dendoncker

Was held back under Sarri last season, despite at one point outscoring Salah, Sterling, Kane and Aguero. 100% worth looking at.

Okay so I've overlooked Emerson - everyone thinks under Lampard he will keep the spot so Alonso is history.

He was Sarri's second choice left back . Could be very different if Chelsea revert to 3 CB's under the new manager who I feel sure will play Kante in the position he should be deployed in.

Lampard is a 433/4231 manager no chance of a 5 at the back. Kante has never played in a role other than a 2 man midfield except this season. I have no idea why people think he is the world’s best CDM whilst never playing a game there during all his success

Lampard has had one season as a manager with a club whose squad determined that 3 CB's was not an option. Pretty small sample size . Kante was a far better player when deployed deeper under Conte and Claudio. Chelsea fans were generally astounded by the role he was asked to play last season.

Yeah with Kante sitting deeper of the 2. So how did they line up under Conte ? My son goes to plenty of Chelsea games and I can assure you that Kante was much deeper in that set up than when he asked to perform a role he was completely unsuited to under Sarri.

Ok, I think I have some balance now, rate my draft please

    Ryan
    Robertson, VVD, Coleman, Mendy
    Salah, Sterling, Bilva, siggy
    King, DCL

    Bench
    Button, Kelly, Dendonca, Long

Happy to play all of my first 11 every week but does give me one or two possibilities off the bench. Triple up on city and pool and Everton seems logical.

      Kane.....august?

With the fixtures early on I think triple ups on pool and city and maybe Everton are higher priority.

Kane feels like a 'bring him in on wildcard' type player

        Normally, I'd agree with you.
But that Spurs vs Villa game .. . so hard to NOT get him in.

In terms of the Pool/City triple up, I have thought of it, but a vid I listened to suggested just doubling up, and just waiting to see which asset bangs, then get them on the team.

For those going heavy at the back w/ Salah and Sterling rotating captaincy, it's Salah (NOR), Salah (sou) and Sterling (bou) for the opening weeks.

Personally I think I prefer Salah (NOR), Aubameyang (BUR) and Kane (NEW), but I need to look into it further.

Kane scored 2 in 3 last August, after a World Cup...

I like the squad but anticipate you'll have to switch Walker if Cancelo signs. I'm also down on Watford but can see the attraction in Holebas.

Also like the premium forward pick. This isn't definite but I'm considering starting with Aubameyang GW1, moving to Kane GW3 as I think it gives you a good run of captains. GW1 Salah, GW2 Aubameyang, GW3 Kane.

Walker is definitely a placeholder for a City defender. Whichever comes in at 6.0/5.5 will get the nod in.

We need to sign 2 centre backs, including Mings, a new holding midfielder and another wide man. If we do that and do it well, I'd back us to stay up.

So this is the team if anyone wants to copy it. You may as well wait until the rest of the pre-season friendlies are out of the way then. See you in August

    Fabianski (4.0)
    VVD, TAA, Digne, Trippier (4.0)
    Salah(c), Sterling, Brooks, Sigurdsson (4.5)
    Jimenez, King (4.5)

Allows a strong backline and the two best captains (probably), without weakening any part of the team too much.

Like it a lot! Monitor KdB in pre-season and also Walker, not sold on him, but you have plenty of options to move to at his price.

No Perez, and if Rondon goes elsewhere I think that they're in huge trouble. It's going to take a hell of a managerial performance to keep them up especially with such a leeching owner. Shame as they are a very big club with fantastic supporters.

Of course, looking at the current squad, but the new manager will obviously use some of the recently inherited £30m to get someone in who he likes, and I fancy that player to do better than Glenn Murray, Pukki, or McGoldrick to be honest.

One big hitter. The rest value for money.
    Ryan (Button)
    Robbo Laporte Gomez Digne (Gibson)
    Pereyra Siggy Salah KDB (Kante)
    Wilson Vardy (4.5)

    Not sure about:
KDB worth 1.5 more than Bilva ( Could have TAA or DDG or Azpi or Fraser)
    Gomez no attacking returns.
Ryan template and could get stuck with him.
Dangerous no big hitter up top.

    Dat midfield HYPE

    Ryan
    Robbo - Walker - Cathcart - Coleman
    Zaha - Salah - Sterling - KDB - Siggy
    King

    bench = fodder.

King could become Jota if Wolves don't look gassed by the EL / lack of early Jimenez...

    1. dbeck
      • 8 Years
      7 years, 1 month ago

is any of that fodder playable with Cathcart, just wouldn't want to start him every week, especially as Dawson could displace him at CB

      1. Shatner's Bassoon
        • 8 Years
        7 years, 1 month ago

Nah - and that's the problem. Midfield is the best place for fodder in this game with Dendoncker there at 4.5, or even a Dale Stephens in a pinch.

Only one in defence at the moment is Kelly - but not even sure of his place in the side after AWB departure since Joel Ward's knocking about.

Not sure I'll go with this but Salah, Sterling, KDB looks so nice!

        1. dbeck
          • 8 Years
          7 years, 1 month ago

i would then look at downgrading zaha to a 6.5- Jota (442) or Brooks (451) to then move Kelly to a nailed 4.5 rotation option

A lot could change, a 4.0 nailed defender could emerge and it will all change again

  30. dbeck
    • 8 Years
    7 years, 1 month ago

I need a striker, max 7m to go alongside King in my 442 formation? Any suggestions?

Alternatively, I can change formation but not sold on the structure of 1 up top. Everton and Spurs home rotation looks good, perhaps bringing in DCL and upgrading a 4.5 def to a spurs def. This would give me an opening six home games between those two of Villa, Watford, Newcastle, Wolves, Palace

yeah Brooks or Zaha in mid, just put off by the structure issues with one striker @ 6.5

Jota or Deulo are the obvious choices.

I'd personally spend in def/mid instead though. Can always get Long (5.0) as 2nd striker to bench in case you're worried you won't have a striker at one point.
