With Bournemouth sitting third in our Season Ticker for the first ten Gameweeks of 2019/20 and meeting only two of the ‘big six’ in that time, there will be plenty of interest in their Fantasy assets from the off.

Despite £2.0m price hikes, Ryan Fraser (£7.5m) and Callum Wilson (£8.0m) currently sit in more than one in five Fantasy Premier League squads – although the ‘auto-pick’ selections will be skewing Wilson’s figure slightly.

Joshua King‘s (£6.5m) ownership is also in excess of 20% at the time of writing.

We have already taken an in-depth look at King and Wilson in a Members’ article, which examines the pair’s attacking credentials in a direct head-to-head comparison.

This Numbers Game piece will explore Bournemouth’s wider attacking threat but also analyse their defensive numbers from 2018/19.

Nathan Ake (£5.0m) is, perhaps surprisingly given the Cherries’ well-documented problems at the back, currently the most popular FPL defender in the £4.5m-£5.0m bracket, having been drafted in by over 16% of FPL bosses.

10 years l’ve been playing this game & still spend pre-season fretting. Now I’ve done that radical change the whole team thing. Worried about Kane with his traditional slow start to the season. Also not sure about Coleman.

    Any tweaking required?

    Ederson

    VVD Coleman Robertson

    Salah, Prerez Zaha Redmond

    Kane Wilson Jota

personally, i've loaded up on liverpool and city, so id recommend maxing out on those options.

Guys - now that the dust has somewhat settled after the price release bombshell...

Does anyone have any theories on what they used to price Liverpool defenders?

A reminder on their scoring from last season:

    - Player Points/Minutes/Appearances:
    - Robbo 213/3219/36 = 5.96 PP90, 5.91 PPA
    - VVD 208/3384/38 = 5.53 PP90, 5.47 PPA
    - TAA 185/2460/29 = 6.76 PP90, 6.38 PPA

I was originally thinking 7.0 TAA, 7.5 VVD, 8.0 Robbo - and for the life of me I can’t think what (retrospective data) they used to get the actual prices - I can’t see any pattern in either points, Points per 90 or points per appearance etc...

Robbo 7.0 (30.4 PPM, 0.84 PPM per appearance)
TAA 7.0 (26.4 PPM, 0.91 PPM per appearance)
VVD 6.5 (29.7 PPM, 0.78 PPM per appearance)

The only thing I can possibly think of is that in addition to looking retrospectively, they also forecast a player’s points PROSPECTIVELY for the year when setting prices...

And they’ve basically forecast VVD to score a bit less than Robbo/TAA this year hence 6.5 vs. 7.0’s??

      1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus

It would mean by implication that there is a library of “projected scores” for every player somewhere in FPL towers

Now THAT would be a data leak to end all data leaks 🙂

        1. Old Bull
          • 13 Years
          7 years, 8 days ago

There must be an element of projected scoring, but it would be dastardly difficult to be exact about it because of the ongoing changes in personnel in the preseason.

        2. _Make
          • 9 Years

It needn't be a particularly accurate algorithm though. Even if we did have it, would it help? It's just OPTA data etc. Why shouldn't FPL's version be any less accurate?

          1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
            • 16 Years
            7 years, 8 days ago

It would just be like FPL's version of the RMT list... But would be interesting viewing nonetheless, even though like any scoring projection tool if there's one thing we know about it is that its wrong

The cap was 7.0 and they wanted to force a choice. VVD felt natural as the least attractive to be the odd one out.

Given the cap the pricing looks smart. Initial forecasts of 90% Robbo ownership on pre-release announcement way off. There’s an interesting near parity in ownership of VVd and Robbo with Trent popular but slightly behind

      1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
        • 16 Years
        7 years, 8 days ago

Hmmm... I'm not sure... If there was a cap then surely VVD would have been 7.0? They must have seen something or calculated something that has told them VVD should be nearly 10% cheaper than the other two - it must be a points prediction?

    3. Netley Lucas
      • 10 Years
      7 years, 8 days ago

My guess is VVD is less due to PPM. TAA & Robbo are equal due to the former having less minutes but highest PPM. That explains the differences but not the actual prices themselves which clearly have something to do with defender attributes rather than a set pricing across all positions, basically they're too cheap per se so other factors must be at work.

    4. SADIO SANÉ
      • 11 Years
      7 years, 8 days ago

They probably don't think Liverpool will get 21 clean sheets again nor will TAA/Robbo 13 assists, which is probably a fair assumption

    5. 7shadesofsmoke
      • 13 Years
      7 years, 8 days ago

surely its the same for any player - they've priced them based on forecast points.

Forecast will be partly to do with the available data, but also takes a big slide of common sense with a little bit of gut.

Players who didn't play last season don't start at the lowest price point so this proves there has to be an element of forecast that doesn't rely on historic data.

      1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
        • 16 Years
        7 years, 8 days ago

A forecast makes more sense as the delta in the retrospective scoring data for those three really hasn't translated into anything like the delta in their pricing - with them all playing the same position for the same club it strips out all the other potential variables (club they play for etc)

Cheers! That’s a bit of a worry then as I did crap in 2017/18. Did come top 500 last season though! Who would u bin from my draft then?

This is my team as present

    Pope (button)
    TAA Robbo digne zinchenko (Kelly)
    Siggy salah KDB (dendonker hayden)
    Wilson vardy (greenwood)

I have 1.5ITB to upgrade to either 5-3-2
4-4-2 or 4-3-3 how do I do it. I’ve look at 6m forwards and nobody stands out there’s murray Wesley and chicha none of them fill me with confidence. Midfield 6m bracket is also farely scarce. Leaves me with a 5.5m defender, if I had that 0.5 I’d get azpi or David Luiz I just don’t want to change anyone else in the squad. HELP!

Apologies Martin Kelly 4.0, Im Set on digne because of how good he was on set pieces and playing the ball into the box i got him for attacking threat as I still don’t think Everton will be that solid at the back

Digne is a better shout I agree. I meant the player to be added could be Coleman. You could also make KDB and Vardy into Kane and a decent defender or midfielder. But it's all just option's. pretty good team tho.

Not a fan of rashford or jimi, rashford because United I think will still take some time to get back to form and jimi I think the Europa league coupled with a gold cup run and tough early fixtures will take its toll. Them 2 to king and jota free up a lot to upgrade dilva to KDB for example

I thought Dunk was superb at Arsenal late last season, had Laca in his pocket, astounding performance.

I'd rather Freeman @ 5.5m! But I've gone Buendia, not the most favourable opening 5 (altho I think we could pick up points vs Chelsea, Newcastle, WHU) but hes such an unpredictable player & can pull something from nothing

Anybody know much about the promoted teams? Any players worth considering? I have seen a few going for O'Connell from SHU - not sure why as he is a defender and their opening fixtures aren't great. Anybody in the know?

Their centre halves are known for bombing forward and getting the odd goal contribution. & they had a very good defensive record
