The jury is still out on Manchester United’s Fantasy assets going into the new campaign.

The new manager bounce that the club experienced after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment in December gave way to some middling form in the final nine Gameweeks of the season.

Their pre-season results (five wins from six) have been quietly encouraging, at least, with Inter Milan and Spurs among the teams already beaten in July.

This latest Numbers Game piece differs from the usual format as we focus on the impact Solskjaer had on United’s assets in the second half of last season.

The Norwegian first took charge of the Red Devils in Gameweek 18, so we will examine United’s stats before and after the departure of Jose Mourinho.

Since the game launched, Kane has been in my team.

Just 4 days before the deadline, I am considering replacing him with Aubameyang.

    Football is back !!!

Auba does look more tempting for the opening 2 fixtures. Easy swap with Kane if needed

Can you improve this team anywhere?

    Pope.
    Walker. VVD. Digne.
    Salah. KDB. Perez. McGinn.
    Kane. Wilson. Wood.

    Heaton. Taylor. Dendonker. Lundstram.

Very nice. You might want to panic tomorrow when City announce they'd signed a new RB. If Walker>Stones you can make Lundy into a useful sub.

Cheers Andy.....seems to have gone a bit quiet on the signing front and it would be weeks I think before he could get Walker out.....but might consider Stones anyway.

Prefer Auba to Kane. Kanes output might be hindered with no Alli, Son. Don't like Wood think he's a troll waiting to happen. Other than that sound.

Aubas end of season form and preseason form both good. Kanes been ok but for some reason Auba feels more like he might go off... Easy switch if I'm wrong.

I think I'll be locking this one in. Having no bench is risky I know but really Zinchenko is the only risk here.

    Pope

    Robertson VVD Coleman Zinchenko

    Richarlison Salah KDB Martial McGinn

    Aubameyang

    4.0, 4.0, 4.5, 4.5

I might be ok in that sense if Lundstram and Greenwood get minutes

He accrued the most minutes in preseason for Manchester United.

Been quite good in preseason and Ole seems to like him. Not much competition because James might be played on the right. Anyway, when I say ‘risk’ I mean someone at risk of not playing at all in a given match. Martial could at least come off the bench.

KDB, Martial also risky, going on last season Auba too! I'd be too scared to go without Sterling.

KDB spent half of last season injured (came back early and got injured again), he may well be managed early on in the season is all I'm saying. Sterling fighting fit as far as I'm aware so no real comparison there?

Pep roulette is common though. He rotates just for fun. You could very well be right about KDB being managed though, but for my sake I hope he isn't.

Don't get me wrong, he's in my team too, just best to have a playing bench player just in case. I thought he looked very attacking in CS, still not 100% but once he is and if he stays fit, I expect a 200+ season.

      2. Qaiss
        • 10 Years

Auba scored the most points for any striker last season, is world class and Laca has a little injury at the moment. He's not a risk for now

      3. Siggy in the Middle
        • 10 Years

See above, those players would almost certainly at least play some minutes. And KDB is about as nailed as a Pep player can be. With Lacazette struggling for fitness and Europa League not having started yet I can't see Aubameyang being dropped

      Wood - form

      1. DeathoftheParty
        • 10 Years
        7 years, 26 days ago

I have my reservations on Wood... He is on fire but his opposition has been atrocious and we've seen in previous years how preseason form can matter very little in the big leagues. Wilson/King last year for example. Wilson wasn't up to much and started like a train... King was on fire but was nowhere to been seen. I think Jota whose shown form against better teams could be the one. King is a trainwreck waiting to happen.

        1. Teror

Jota is the one I'm just worried about that trip to Aremnia on Thursday. If he doesn't play then he's in my team. If he does I'll probably start with Wood against Southampton then do an easy transfer sideways.

Did I finally go mad? Or is this not bad for a team with 3 premiums?

    Pickford
    VVD, Digne, Zinchenko, W-Peters
    Salah, Sterling, Fraser, Barkley
    Aubameyang, Origi

Fraser could become any other 7.5m mid, not too sold on him but the two first fixtures are great. I'll watch Pulisic closely.

Zinchenko and WP are here temporarily. Looking to bring in Ritchie when he's healthy.

VVD is a monster who'll score much more than last season. TAA and Robbo didn't look good in the Community Shield game.

Origi is a differential and an enabler.

Barkley only needs to score 120+ pts with that price tag and I'm confident he will. Could become Graelish or Buendia.

Auba will, IMO, be the greatest benefactor from Pepe and alive-again Ozil. He'll score 230+ this year, bargain at 11.0m.

Missing out on Wilson, King, all Leicester assets, Aguero, KDB, Robbo & TAA, premium GKs, Jimenez and Jota, Zaha / Mili, Man Utd, Kane, key players from promoted teams, Southampton.

Crazy how it changes day by day... Seeing a lot of Auba and less Kane in RMTs.

Is Digne essential? I don’t have him but it seems everyone else does.

Not essential at all but definitely good value with the fixtures and being on a few set pieces.

Not essential imo. Coleman ended last season in better form for £0.5m less.

Back yourself. He's a good pick but nobody is essential in GW1.

    Ederson (Button)

    VVD/TAA/Ake/(Rico/Lundstrom)

    Salah/Sterling/Zaha/Maddison/Barkley

    King/Murray/(Jota)

    Cheers

Thinking of punting on both, I feel like it could go really well or really badly, not sure which yet. xD

Thoughts on Gray as an alternative to 6.5 strikers? Deulofeu injured. Jota plays in Armenia on Thursday. Watford have some nice opening fixtures. Could be good short term as a wait and see until a 6.5 emerges.

    Hi all, nearly there 🙂

Best 6m mid for this team? Is Barkley a trap?

Also would you downgrade Digne to Coleman to get Heaton as second keeper?

    Pope (Button)
    TAA. Digne. AWB. Zinch (Lunds)
    Salah. Sterling. Pérez. XXX (Dendonk)
    Kane. King (Greenwood)

      Keep Digne imo.

Trossard is a good punt. Not sure about Barkley as there could be better options in that Chelsea team.
