The jury is still out on Manchester United’s Fantasy assets going into the new campaign.

The new manager bounce that the club experienced after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment in December gave way to some middling form in the final nine Gameweeks of the season.

Their pre-season results (five wins from six) have been quietly encouraging, at least, with Inter Milan and Spurs among the teams already beaten in July.

This latest Numbers Game piece differs from the usual format as we focus on the impact Solskjaer had on United’s assets in the second half of last season.

The Norwegian first took charge of the Red Devils in Gameweek 18, so we will examine United’s stats before and after the departure of Jose Mourinho.

      I think De Ligt is on a much higher wage than VVD, his fee was probably a bit deceptive when everything else is factored in, especially with Raiola as his agent.

    People forget that Chelsea have been without Kante' in pre season. He made Wes Morgan, Robert Huth, Danny Simpson and Christian Fuchs look like world beaters. Jorginho or Kovacevic arguably better than Drinkwater too. Yes Chelsea will play advanced and try to score goals but not sure they will be that leaky. Come gw2 and people will not like the view of 9m striker vs Che away. But i might end up with him anyway-)

      absolutely, a lot of people on this site gonna get burned methinks. In 3/4 of chelsea's last pre-season games (excluding reading) they've played pretty strong approximations of their best team and barkley was a starter in just one.

      60/40 it's mount who gets the nod, don't bother with either.

    The 7.5M price point is interesting. Rank these from best to worst in your opinion.

    A) Haller - Can score, assist, hold it up
    B) Pulisic - Great summer with USA
    C) Martial - 10 goals, 4 assists in around 1600 minutes, could be great if he played more
    D) Fraser - perhaps overpriced as he might have peaked last year but those fixtures...

    #lcfc priced out of Nathan Ake transfer - #Bournemouth want more than £75m, I’m told. 2 years younger than Maguire, 10 Dutch caps, 3 yrs left on contract -hence high price. Tarkowski would be £40m+ so Leic reluctant to pay that too. Looking abroad, but may not sign anyone new

        At some point someone’s going to be badly caught out. The other aspect is that these players are now getting 6 year contracts. That adds another 20 mill or so to their cost probably and I suspect Zidane isn’t thrilled he got Bale the 6 year contract!

          Yeh, that's the way the game works. To avoid the player running down their contract you gotta do that. I think Ake's still got 4 years, hence Bou can exploit this game. Clubs are getting caught out - for every United that can carry a Sanchez as a passenger, there's a Sunderland crippled by Rodwell's salary as the tumble down the pyramid.

        Kelly would still start 1 anyway ahead of him surely. Cahill feels more like cover to me - a Dann replacement. It might just mean Kelly and Ward will be the RB combo which could make Ward a decent shout at 4.5.

      Maximin is another slight teaser at 5.5. Just perhaps Joelinton Maximin and Almiron could mean goals at some point.

      There’s quite a few in that bracket now who need monitoring. I’m seeing many more with potential value there than 5.0 at the back and there’s nothing really at 5.5 up top.
