Southampton are one of the most overlooked teams in Fantasy Premier League as Gameweek 1 draws ever nearer.

Only one of the Saints’ FPL assets is owned by more than 2.5% of managers: Shane Long (£5.0m), who, barring injuries, is expected to be among the substitutes when Southampton run out at Turf Moor this Saturday.

While the south coast club’s fixtures are a horror show between Gameweeks 7 and 13 (all of the sides they face in this period finished in the top nine last season), there are some more appealing encounters with Burnley, Brighton, Sheffield United and Bournemouth in the first half-dozen Gameweeks.

Pre-season results are not always a reliable barometer but the Saints are unbeaten in five matches this summer, winning four of them.

New signing Che Adams (£6.0m) has arguably been the stand-out performer, with three goals and two assists.

Is there anything to encourage Fantasy investment in the first six Gameweeks, then?

In this latest Numbers Game article, we take a slightly different approach to the series template and instead focus on the impact Ralph Hasenhuttl has made on Southampton following his appointment in December 2018.

I like B a smidge more than A. I like Zinchenko, a nice point of difference, although his ownership is rising by the day currently. KDB when fit can bust games open at will and at 9.5 is quite the juicy option.

Both Gomez and Matip are way better defensively.

Sorry for reports, lost in old article:

Not seeing much Watford in the RMT's. But their fixtures are OK'ish from attacking point of view, thinking in particular nailed-on and proven midfielders like Pereyra and Doucoure are valid choices at the £6.0 price point, compared to more risky choices like Robinson or Barkley.
    Thoughts?

We're comparing the 6.0m price point here, not expecting the world. Ofc Barkley if nailed likely better pick, but we don't know that.

They are somewhat overlooked. The team and the fixtures fall into a middling 'meh' bracket, in my view.

With so much debate over 4.5 keepers, I've recommended starting with Foster, who's good for the first 4 fixtures, then seeing which 4.5 keeper rises to the top.
Due to those same early fixtures, a 4.5 defender would be okay and I am seeing a few of those.
An earlier article highlighted how historically Pereya tends to start seasons on fire before drying up, so he's decent GW1 option.
Up top people were all over Deu early door before going off him, but for some reason, there's very little interest in Deeney.

They've got BHA(h), WHU(h), NEW(a) in first four - plum fixtures from attacking point of view imho.
Haven't really considered Deeney myself, but could be clever. Don't know about his minutes , though.

The one you omitted is Everton (A) GW2. I don't think they'll have their shooting boots yet, so from a defensive point of view all 4 look decent. Trouble is, I don't think they keep a lot of clean sheets even against weak opposition.

After 2 gw’ switch wilson to haller/kean/chelsea forward, and lamela to a 6.5-7 midfielder.

Yeah had him in but not having Sterling could really hurt if he starts well.

Not easy get him in with such a price difference.

Sterling to start, but could well switch to kdb if Auba starts scoring big

There's a reason Sterling is so expensive. As you know, KDB spent a lot of last season out. He could easily score very well this season. It's a risk you take.
