Mark Sutherns to return to Fantasy Football Scout for 2020/21 season

“Where’s Mark?”
“I miss Mark”
“Bring back Mark”

Hundreds upon hundreds of you have enquired about the whereabouts of the Fantasy Football Scout founding father since his decision to take a step back from frontline FPL duty two years ago.

He’s never been too far away from the site, though, and now, we’re delighted to report, he’ll once again be putting out Fantasy content when the new season gets underway in September.

Mark will be involved with Fantasy Football Scout in a Pro Pundit capacity, so expect articles and video appearances as he bids to bounce back from – what he deemed to be – a frustrating 2019/20 campaign.

Mark rejoins a team of contributors that includes top Fantasy managers such as Lateriser, Zophar and Tom Freeman, who have multiple top 1k finishes between them and who, we are delighted to say, will be writing for us once again in 2020/21.

Lateriser, who finished 30th in the world last season, will also be stepping up the frequency of his articles in the campaign to come.

As ever, subscribers to Fantasy Football Scout will get unrestricted access to all of their analysis and team reveals.

If you’re new to this website, Mark is its creator.

Starting Fantasy Football Scout out as a blog in 2007, he grew these pages steadily over the years and developed the site into the leading Fantasy Football resource.

He’s got an enviable FPL record to back that up, too, as his season history (pictured above) shows.

A remarkable nine of his finishes have been within the top 5,000, with four of those resulting in overall ranks inside the top 1k.

We’re absolutely thrilled to have Mark back on board for 2020/21 and look forward to his insight in the weeks and months to come.

Great news. The mainstays of the recent (last couple of years) scoutcast do a brilliant job and I enjoy listening to them all, but I do miss mark. He just had a nice way/manner about him. It’s difficult to explain, but he always came across well on the scoutcast and I liked hearing what he had to say.

Absolutely. Jonty, Az, David Luke, and Andy have all done wonderful with great advice. But Mark, he has that sense of calmness and the smooth delivery makes FPL sound so easy. Thrilled to see him back. Enjoyed scoutcast always but now it will be even more interesting to see and hear his views.

He offered differing views as generally, they are all quite safe with their choices whereas he would do more maverick moves which paid off.

Martial's improvement in finishing pre and post Bruno:

    GW1-24:
    .........Goal Conversion: 16.7
    .........xG Delta: 0

    GW25+:
    ........Goal Conversion: 28.1
    ........xG Delta: +3.0

In every single season Martial has always performed above his xG, so he has always been a naturally gifted finisher, but do you think he's taken it to the next level recently? What does the eye test tell you?

(Mods: Possibly should be flagged as a member's post? Dunno what's going on with that...)

      Better finisher than aguero

Not prime Aguero. In 2016 his xG was off the scale, like +0.6 per GAME. He's also way better at creating chances for himself.

Martial is good, but Aguero is the best Premier League striker of all time imo.

          xG Delta*

          0.6 per game is ridiculous.

Was consistently hitting 0.8/0.7 xG Delta per game between 2013 and 2017. Disgusting numbers...

Did the Bruno signing give the team confidence not actual assistance? Pre lockdown he was sensational. Post lockdown the team believed they were sensational.

Will this all go to pot the moment they get humbled again?

By far the best finisher in the league last season. +0.45 xG Delta per game, next best was Aubameyang at 0.20.

Crazy numbers for an 18 year old. He keeps his head down and works hard, he could become a phenomenal player.

He is an elite finisher. Wouldn't be surprised if he hit 20 league goals next season. Would get better numbers if he was on pens.

DEAL DONE: Southampton have completed the £10.9m signing of Mohammed Salisu from Real Valladolid. He’s joined a 4-year contract. (Source: @SouthamptonFC)

AS Roma are in talks with Arsenal over a swap deal for Lucas Torreira and Amadou Diawara.
The Gunners are said to be signing the 23-year-old midfielder on a five-year contract in return for the Uruguayan should the deal happen.

This. Mitro started hot and cooled way off. Finished with 11 goals after starting on a pace for 20+. Fulham will be a different squad under Parker than under Joka - figure on at least a semblance of defense this time around. Likely fantasy total around 125 points; if he kicks in 150+, we're probably staying up.

Execption as in player who have been around before (like Mitrovic) suddenly found form of his life.

All the players you mentioned were new to PL and the game when they caught our eye, some of them managed to establish themselves as reliable forwards (Vardy or Kane) othrers didn't.

I put my mortgage on the fact that Mitrovic is not going to be budget friendly answer in forward departement.

Ings epitomises the eye test for me. Came back from lockdown with the body of a Greek God, looked in fantastic shape, and moved really well.

This is his first season with positive xG Delta, he doesn't have a history of good finishing, but he looked so good... Saints were looking good too, and improving with every game.

No idea what to expect next season, especially with the loss of Højbjerg. My gut says he'll still be great, but price may put me off...

        What do you think?

          • 12 Years
          3 years, 8 months ago

Actually, Højbjerg didn't play much from GW32 onwards and Ings was still killing it. Doesn't look like it will impact his returns...

Yes if you like chasing points. Have to have nerve with a player like him. Also a card magnet.

        • 8 Years
        3 years, 8 months ago

Is he a card magnet? He gets some YCs due to physical play but he's by no means the hothead of the 15/16 season. He had 7 yellows in 3281 minutes in the Premier League in 18/19 - that's fewer than Callum Wilson, Lacazette and Calvert-Lewin had (in much fewer minutes) this season, and none of these players have reputations for being card magnets.

In the Championship last year he had 8 YCs in 3590 minutes (that's more minutes than it's possible to play in the Premier League). No reds at all, either in the PL in 18/19 or the Championship last year.

The rules for CL to put out the team sheet aren't that strict are they? Sometimes you get them 15 min earlier, sometimes 15 min later than the 1h mark.

You lot did well with Fred 🙂

Also last seasons claims that Chelsea were horribly handicapped by transfer ban never did sit right with me. Not only did they squeeze Puli in they also got Rudiger back - plenty of others they could have called in too. It never was a particularly small squad.

Fred took some time. But i really like him now as a squad player. Overpriced but he's a good ball playing CM IMO.

          Chelsea have biggest Squad probably.

Why ? That doesn't prove that you are capable of making your own decision. My whole point is that

                    1 you are incapable
                    2 you are unlikeable

My aim is to win, It has not happened yet. That guy is claiming though that I don´t make own decisions. Would you really make top100 then? NO

Very meticulous. Likes to plan weeks in advance. Has fixtures as his main priority, stats 2nd, eye test 3/4, and gets as much data as he can... so pretty much exactly the same as Carlsen...

I really hope though they don't put Az & Joe out of scoutcast. I really enjoy Az taking shots at Joe 😀

Think they said in the last scoutcast that next year would see Az & Joe as co-hosts next week. So I guess the plan is the two of them + a different guest pundit every week.

More than just having that track record though, he's got it while playing his own game. There have been quite a few occasions he's made a move I would have thought was outright stupid that then payed off. Which is a neat trick.

That approach also explains some of his bad seasons I guess but there aren't that many of those and god knows plenty of players did worse those years while being a lot more dull.
