International Football

Which FPL players are on international duty ahead of Gameweek 1?

Fantasy managers are faced with the unusual situation of an international break taking place immediately before the start of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

A week of international fixtures got underway in midweek, with many key top-flight players in action for their nations and missing out on pre-season preparations with their clubs as a consequence.

The positive news is that only those representing European countries will be away from their clubs, as UEFA tries to play catch-up with the Nations League.

The likes of Mohamed Salah (£12.0m), Sadio Mane (£12.0m), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£12.0m), Son Heung-min (£9.0m) and Raul Jimenez (£8.5m) will be staying put, then, while those European players who are on international duty at least won’t have to endure an arduous trek back from further afield given that all Nations League matches will take place on the continent.

This article gives a club-by-club rundown on which assets will be away from their sides during this period, also detailing the dates in which these players will be competing for their respective countries.

I picked the team that I would probably have if there wasn't a blank. And I like it. I like it long term. I am wondering should i go for it? Risk GW1, however have a headstart from everyone in GW2 and use those extra transfers to close the gap and win. It could work. The value of the free transfer has to be considered. Also with Bruno and KDB instead of Salah and Auba I have 2m more to play and can make a better overall squad.

    The team as below.

Madness? Genius? Out of the box? Comments?

    Thanks
    McCarthy
    TAA Dier Justin Vinagre Mitchell
    Son (vc) ASM
    Werner (c) Antonio Mitro
    Bench: KDB Bruno Greenwood

People will be flying with WC early on and I will patiently wait to unleash it later on.

Guys let's please have a constructive debate on this alternative

Finding £0.5m to turn KDB into Auba for the 1st two weeks is a must.

Is it? KDB to run riot in GW2 onwards. I'll consider that but Auba will sold in GW3 anyway. Start of the season you need transfers available

Auba is captain material weeks 1 and 2, KDB has a blank and then Wolves. Pretty sure this would cover the - 4 if you absolutely had to make another transfer

I completely agree, there's is nothing wrong with benching players without a fixture in week 1 but don't over do it. I would want 1 playing sub and the KDB Auba swap week 3 looks perfect

Even I fancy Spurs, i think Kane-Son double up is overkill. I think I'll go down Lloris-Doherty-Son route with a stack of CS in mind

I’m thinking of even shifting the defender you know. I fancy Southampton attack a fair bit. May go with Vinagre + Justin instead of Davies and enjoy the JWP + Adams double up instead

        1. Nightrain_
          • 7 Years

I won't do that, JWP+Adams will end in tears, Ings is the only Saint you can trust, ditch the rest

Strongest def is TAA/Robbo/Doherty, with Vinagre too so you have the option to go 4-4-2

TAA Doherty Tierney Vinagre // Williams

Salah Auba Son ASM // Bissouma

            Kane Adams // Wickham

            Nice.

yes they can but goals could come from Son, Doherty (or Alli) and not Kane. He's not really expensive with that price but picking Werner and spread the fund is better I guess

for me, the best triple up is Lloris + Doc + Son

If a bunch of Chelsea players can be contracted with virus, why not United ? Unless you think they have their own vaccines, no one is guaranteed at this moment

Not to mention other risk such as last minute training injury or whatever else

But why not any team? By your logic you shouldn’t have any player because they might have to quarantine or might get injured. There is no connection between the virus/training injuries and not owning United players a week early.

Nope because starting GW1 we have information who's fit and not before deadline and you can tweak with a full starting 11 but if you decided to bench UTD, the only way out is to transfer or forced to play a 4.5 fodder.

People also end to react to bad news by selling so you'll also risk a drop in price.

Another thing is you probably only have to risk -2 if you want 2 UTD in GW2 but you still have ceilings in GW1 with say Ings and Auba before you switch to say Martial or Bruno

Any Suggestions: Set on going without Salah & Mane

    McCarthy
    TAA Justin Vinagre Doherty
    Soucek Aubameyang Son Armstrong
    Jiminez Werner

    Button Mitchell Brewster Rashford

    1.5m itb.

If set without Mane/Salah, I'll go down double LIV def route with set pieces return in mind

Justin is a no go from me, they will concede a lot and assist will come from CAM so you'll get either 0 or 1 pt

Soucek is wait and see, a possible quarantine

Why do so many people assume Chelsea's attacking midfielders will be rotated but Werner won't?

Granted, Tammy/Giroud aren't great, but neither are Mount/CHO/RLC/Barkley etc.

Werner is the safe starting point in terms of Chelsea attack. Been training with the club for a while and a massive upgrade to Tammy and Giroud.

Werner is light years ahead of Tammy. Giroud is old. Maybe when the fixtures are too tight but for now he will be the main man.

Just for a laugh and seeing what is affordable and using the logic pool defenders get close to 200 points and City Che and Utd have goals in them this season it does of course mean no Salah and no bench.
9 outfield player from the probable top 4
In a few weeks I won’t take things to this extreme cause I probably will hold Salah but won’t be far off this.

    McCarthy

    TAA Robertson VVD Vinagre

    KDB Rashford Pulisic Greenwood Foden

    Werner

    Nyland Mitchell Wickham Davis

Call me crazy but this actually looks brilliant (aside from the GW1 blanks of course).

On one hand I don't have the guts but on the other...not like anything else I've been trying is any good either!

The trick with some of these players would be to force yourself to keep them all season no matter what - barring injuries - that way you could benefit from them returning to their mean over time.

I think I will call you crazy!! Seriously started with something similar last year and did an early WC, if I had stuck with it over the course of the season I think my overall rank would have been better. Being realistic there is an least 1 further compromise that needs to be made to that team cause really I want Salah. And then there is a bench that needs an upgrade.

Greenwood is a concern until transfer window closes. Triple any defense would worry me, as once a goal goes in, I'd be deflated. Foden also

You can’t have this team without 2-3 half decent ones on the bench and that’s not even allowing for the risks of 1 up front. Like I said it’s for a laugh and taken to an extreme but I like elements of it.

Digne is not the best way to start, for what it's worth, TOT can haul 4 goals against them and Digne awarded 1 yellow so it's painful to watch

Alli Armstrong also weak combination, I'll prefer Son ASM, assuming you have fund by changing Digne.

Also consider Havertz as he has explosive potential and excellent pens taker
