The key FPL statistics ahead of Double Gameweek 27

The two-time FPL champion of India, Lateriser, returns with a stat attack ahead of the weekend.

A lot of football has been played of late and it’s almost impossible for Fantasy Premier League managers to keep track of things when they are moving at such a fast pace.

So, I thought this would be a good time to look at some trends and statistics that have caught my eye in the Premium Members Area over the last few Gameweeks. It is worth noting that I’m writing this article on Wednesday morning after Manchester City clinched a late win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, so the statistics I cite will include data up to this point.

What is FPL Upside Chasing and how can I implement it in 2020/21?

Bruno to KDB make sense with a FT for City’s double?

Also, is Shaw to Targett worth a hit in preparation for gw29?

    Team would be:

    Martinez (Fabri)
    Shaw, Cancelo, Reguillon (Burn, Struijk)
    KDB(c), Salah, Son, Gundo (Raphinha)
    Kane, DCL, Watkins

Will decide on KDB after I WC in GW 30/31. Too early to get him now imo.

Thanks man...I'll bring him back in GW30 or onwards...this is just to try to gain an advantage over rivals given his fixture run is as bad as it gets for the next few

For me I know I will of course want him back, so I might as well just not waste the transfers. I can see the merit in trying to secure a short term gain though

Depends for how much you got him. I have over a 1m spread... and that is too much for me. But if you didnt buy him early there is a case of trying a differential:)

I did buy him over a 1m spread, but I have decent TV, so don't mind doing it- I'm a fair bit behind my money league rivals, so trying to make smart differential moves in opportunities like this

FPL has really grown since I started playing midway through the 2014/15 season.

FPL experts are now everywhere on YouTube & Twitter. I have to guess that FPL managers 10 years ago had to rely on actually watching games/highlights themselves. No need for that anymore.

Yeah this is my 14th season of f FPL and 25th overall. The difference just in the last 5 years is huge. Basically hard work and deep research is pointless now as it gives you no advantage.

No of course not. As someone who hires 18-19 year olds each year, the rate at which the intelligence plummets and the ADHD soars is heartbreaking for the future.

Same here Rupert. My 14th season and 5 years before that playing newspaper administered FF. Game was totally different then as most played it with a pen and paper. At 68 next I still do, as I wouldn't know what a "bot" was if it drove up to me. I remember in one of the early years winning about a grand in one season with a work based league with about 100 players.
Although I wouldn't regard myself as an "expert" I have had 4 finishes within the top 3k ( best finish 800ish) and only twice finished outside of the top 50k ( one my first season).
I still enjoy this site for the good humoured banter that members like yourself provide and I've had many a chuckle. I do try to offer positive advice to other members requesting it and I never join in with the abuse that some feel it necessary to post.
I will continue to play, as long as I keep enjoying it, and even though I feel that I am battling against those who have more up to date methods than I do, I wish everyone good luck.
It's a great hobby and thanks to all the mods who make it possible.

It's still a saturated market of 'experts'

The only one I've actually found useful this season is Ben Crellin...maybe Blackbox for some difference in discussion due to Az/Mark's less orthodox style of play- all the other content creators tend to state the obvious and you then get a template forming- which for the newbie player might be very useful, but for those who use the stats and still watch games it's not really going to make a huge impact

I would still go by own comparison of stats/games/highlights to be my key influencer for decisions vs general content on YouTube/Twitter

I think Tom Freeman is a very smart analyst. In his appearances on the Wire, he always has something interesting picks and stats that few others put forward. And Mark’s stats tables on Blackbox are fantastic. Fergie and Adam Hopcroft on the Green Arrow are well worth a listen. So those three pods are my favourites, don’t have time to fit anymore in.

I remember when we had to do our transfers by semaphore.

Once a bee was fly around my head and I accidentally transferred in Dennis Wise instead of Frank Lampard. He got me 1pt in a DGW.

Here are my options. Need player for BGW29 anyway, just not sure who to get rid of and whether Son or Bale is better to get in? I will WC probably GW31, so getting Bruno and/or Salah back will be no problem then.

I agree the chance of him reaching his ceiling in this game is super low considering it is City and United's recent approach to these games, but for me he is a special player and always has that ability to run a game and score massive

Yeah Lingard vs Leeds looks worth the GW28 blank.

not gunDogan given that he came off the bench in the last fixture, looked good, got an assist and rarely dropped by Pep this season?

Things like Jesus rebounding one of Gundo's shots don't really matter for me when choosing a captain

Gundo's okay if you don't have a feasible way to get KDB though

Strange that, no issues for me. You tried going directly to the report page I assume?

Sterling + Gundo + DCL => Auba + Bale + Antonio looks fine prior GW29?

What is the best Barnes replacement - Raphinha, Lingard or Saka?

Raphinha looks the better pick in terms of underlying stats, but fixtures aren't as good as the other two in GW27. If going for Lingard, I'd likely have to play a Brighton defender (vs Southampton) in GW28 or Maja who plays Citeh. Thinking I'll likely switch Gundo to Raphinha anyway in GW29 if I don't get him in for next week.

My gripe with these stats based articles is the inconsistency

Yes Kane is a good player, there aren't too many people who don't realise that with or without stats... but it's the twisting the narrative to find stats that support that hypothesis, and ignoring the stats that don't support it that grinds my gears

Extrapolate that out across the entire fleet of players in FPL & ***tHe sTaTs*** just become very irrelevant, very quickly

Kane is being measured over 4 gameweeks on shots in the box & shots - but be careful not to mention that there are 6 forwards and 4 midfielders with better XG (and XGI) over that same gameweek range for example as that won't fit the narrative or drum up any sensationalist dopamine splurges in the masses when they turn to Kane as a transfer target

Raphinia is being measured over a different time period again (6 gameweks i think?) and with different stats again - fair enough he's more of a creator - but again, he's a set piece taking advanced/quasi-OOP forward in an attacking team who stands out like a sore thumb as being quality in every game he plays... are those cherry picked stats over a cherry picked measurement period really adding much more insight...

Not to be a Negative Nancy of course, but i think it's pulling the wool over a lot of people's eyes & giving delusions of accuracy

But isnt thats what these websites are about? If people just accept the fact that pick from 12-15 players every 5gws then there will be very less content to push and paid members will feel especially fleeced

It's probably better I get Lookman and bench him for Raphinha until 29 rather than getting Lingard. Easier game for Fulham and Raphinha is good enough to start anyway

No FH, no WC so 29+onwards in mind. Which combination do you prefer moving forwards? These two would replace DCL+Barnes over the next 2 weeks.

    A) Watkins + Son
    B) Antonio + Son
    C) Antonio + Grealish

    Thinking B?

Ideas for that team? Just Barnes out or along with someone else?

1.5 ITB, 1 FT, WC and BB left.

    Martinez/Martin
    Cancelo/Digne/Stones/Dallas/Coufal
    Salah/Bruno/Barnes/Gundo/Raph
    Kane/DCL/Bamford
