FPL

Which FPL players are on free-kicks, corners and penalties in 2022/23?

Fantasy Premier League (FPL) is live for 2022/23 and so too is our table of players on free-kicks, corners and penalties at their respective clubs.

The players are listed in order of prominence at dead-ball situations, based on information gathered from last season’s matches. Data closer to Gameweek 38 is given more weight.

The list will be updated constantly as new information becomes available on assigned set-piece takers and we’ll have one eye on pre-season to see if there is a shake-up in the table below or if any new signings like Erling Haaland are muscling their way in on the dead-ball duties.

Nottingham Forest are a good example: Joe Lolley and Brennan Johnson are listed as direct free-kick takers but it was loanees Joe Garner and Philip Zinckernagel who were chiefly responsible for these in the Championship last season and they have now departed the club.

This is a list that is also supplied to the FPL site, where you’ll find explanatory notes on the penalty takers featured here.

Less than 24 hours since the game launched and we already have more than half a million players, crazy difficult to get top 10k

Yep, if the top 1% isn't high enough for you, I highly recommend you lower your standards to something a bit more healthy.

Some of these content creators create a disturbing image to young people that beating 99% of players isn't good enough.

Top 100k is an incredible achievement.

There’s 3 times as many players as there were 5-6 years ago and plenty more who take the game seriously nowadays. Top 10k represents a fantastic season but 100k is a good achievement and probably equivalent to top 10k 5 years ago.

A very large number of people signing up either give up at some point during the season or don't take it seriously, so in reality competing against a much smaller pool of players

I'd hazard a guess that in recent seasons the number of 'active' teams towards the end is 2.5-3m. I saw a couple of mates who gave up stay just below that level.

I think it reached almost 9m total last year, but I reckon almost 2m were those teams that get created each week to win 'team of the day/week' prizes. You can see them when the highest scoring team on a Saturday is brand new.

Low 4 digit ID. Might be the best "win" I have all season.
Tinkering continues, with more friendlies tomorrow and sundry possible RL transfers affecting pecking orders.
I notice also team names are short. Unimpressed. Had to take a basic Baines on Toast. So 2010.

    Henderson (Raya)
    James, Chilly, TAA, Fredericks,

Right I've settled on a first draft but it does have raphina in it haha:

    Sanchez (4m)
    TAA, Cancelo, Dias, Tomi/White, (Tomkins)
    Salah, Diaz, Saka, Raphina, (colback)
    Vardy, Jesus, (greenwood)

Probably not the final thing but a good start - any glaring errors? The bench is quite awful haha...

Are your keepers Sanchez and Steele? Those are mine, so always guaranteed a playing keeper there.

I still like Raya at 4.5. Good opening run of fixtures and he averaged 4 pts per game last season, which without injured would have seen him more or less match Ederson and be the third highest scoring keeper in the game.

                It's a pairing I like.

I know Mendy is the popular choice, but I think the £4.5 keepers has the potential for some gems. Johnstone and Henderson as well as Sanchez could outscore some of the £5.0's. Even if not they most likely will be within 20 points of them, which doesn't even equate to a point a game less.

I've judged that this season the gap between Cancelo and Laporte will be sufficiently narrow to warrant getting Laporte and investing the 1 million difference.

With Cucurella rumored to be on the way I see rotation issues with one of Cancelo, Walker Cucurella benched, although that's most likely to be Cucurella early on

Don't get me wrong he's a safe choice and I've gone with that combo before but it didn't work out, he doesn't get many save/bonus points in my experience, would start with Raya at 4.5 but a top 4 keeper at 5m is too good.

We complained during the price release that the prices were so low that there would be a template from GW1. There's two ways to avoid the template; over pricing and under pricing. FPL have generally chosen the latter and for GW1 at least I think it's worked, especially when it comes to midfielders and forwards. We have to be selective with our premiums and the mid range offers many options. Even in defence there are so many options.
When you add in the fact that we effectively have 2 WCs that must be played by GW17, FPL managers will be aggressive in the first half of the season, thus a template may not form.
In the second half of the season a template naturally forms and this is expected.

Tldr; The first half of the season should see a lot of variance in teams.

The template is still making compromises in midfield in my view.

If you go big at the back.

With the points per million in defence and the obvious temptation to pair Jesus and Haaland up front, is there a real danger that the midfield is too weak with either Salah or Son in there?

Doesn't leave room for the midfielders which are often the more exciting picks for hauls.

Or is that the obvious way to go before there's some more squad value to use?

      Hey, welcome back!

Looks to me like there's a couple disparate trends for mids - some are going for a very skinny 532/523 with one premium & 4 cheapies, some are trying to open as many spots as possible for the 8m bracket. I much prefer the latter. Currently looking at Son, Diaz, Martinelli, a rotating 8m spot & a 4.5m sub.

This is my first draft - Jesus & Haaland up front with Son as my premium mid + 2x 8.0m and 3 big defenders.

Trying to leave room for manoeuvre around a premium at each position, and around Diaz/Saka should a another mid at a similar point hit a run of form.

      What do you think?

      Raya
      Robbo | Cancelo | Chilly | Cash
      Son | Diaz | Saka | Bruno G.
      Haaland | Jesus

Andreas, the pre-season Pirlo, has just joined Fulham. He should be nailed in the #10 position. Great 4.5m mid option.

Reed is another of you're looking for a 2nd.

Colback is an aging wingback, but he was nailed last season, so maybe ok.

Forest are buying in some quality - I doubt Colback will be nailed. Pereira is the stand-out, but someone advised to keep an eye on Brentford's da Silva.

He's a decent option but probably just a tad over priced, he's never performed like he did last season before so will likely see some drop off

Sure, you just need cover. A 4.5 Brentford defender to step up those 2 GWs would do the job.

I don't think Newcastle's early fixtures are that great either. Liv and MCI in the first 6 games is a tough early schedule.

NFO bha wol CRY whu BOU ful BRE mun EVE
8 prime CS fixtures there imo. I'm very likely starting with Pope or Trippier

Brighton, Wolves, Palace and West Ham aren’t whipping boys by any means. All capable of giving Newcastle tough games, especially Brighton, Wolves and West Ham on their own home grounds.

After that, yes, the Toon fixtures definitely look appealing.

    TAA | Cancelo | James | Perisic
    Salah | Saka | Coutinho | Neto | Aaronson
    Haaland

    Steele | Castagna | Geldhard | Archer

Unsure on Aaronson, bit of a punt

Think I’m settled on this, well balanced 4-4-2.

    Raya (4.0)
    Taa Cancelo Cash Tomiyasu Justin
    Salah Son Foden Martinelli Andreas
    Jesus Jiminez (4.5 fodder)

    1. Marty McFly

I like it. In full agreement that 442 is the way to start.

Personally I think you’re carrying too much rotation risk in midfield with Foden and Martinelli and could run into trouble early. I think I would opt for Saka and Neto instead and then switch Jimmy to Toney (who is absolutely nailed for 90 mins, on pens with awesome fixtures)

Who is more likely to have a resurgence?
Fernandes - back on penalties and as the main man with Ronaldo going.
Sterling - playing centre forward for Chelsea.

Early days - we don't know if Chelsea will use him as a striker or bring in another one (maybe Ronaldo!). But I do think Bruno should be back to his older self.

A nightmare scenario for us FPL managers would be for the Sterling deal to fall through and Werner to do well in preseason.
Extra competition for the City attacking spots and Werner at £8.0m becoming an overly tempting trap.

The Wildcard chip can be used twice a season. The first Wildcard will be available from the start of the season until Sat 12 Nov 13:30.

The second Wildcard will be available after Mon 26 Dec 13:30 in readiness for the January transfer window opening and remain available until the end of the season.

In addition we have unlimited transfers during the world cup (effectively a 3rd wildcard)

    Raya, 4.0

    Robertson, Cancelo, Tomiyasu, Chilwell, Doherty

Like this. I am unsure on Foden atm after flattering to deceive in FPL last year, but an option in that mid spot.

Fan of the 3 x 8 mil mids but two 4.5 strikes could be a pain if Haaland misses a game, or has a niggle etc.
