Apart from Beyer, any other 4m Burnley defender that is nailed? or perhaps from a different team?

      Bell (LUT) then Baldock (SHU)

I think Baldock (Sheffield United) is the most likely, with Bell (Luton) as an option as well. But Beyer the most nailed indeed apparently.

    Couple of questions, please:

    1) Predicted price for Diaby?
    2) Best midfielders/enablers at 6.0 or less? I was set on Andreas but was told he isn't fully fit. Same for Jacob Ramsey. Enciso's minutes a concern.

I think Ederson is a going under the radar this year ... City defence looks physically strong & rejuvenated and they could be back up to 20+ clean sheets this season

At this moment, it's the same defence that only managed 13 cleansheets (11 from Ederson), except with a worse midfield in front of it.

It is a fully fit defence, last season there were lots on injuries and Cancelo was loaned out. If Josko Gvardiol joins ...

I can see City getting 20 clean sheets again so that means 155 - 160 points from him.

Who was injured? Dias 1997 mins, Akanji 2286, Ake 1877, Stones 1848, Walker 1956… these are all standard City numbers due to rotation.

Cancelo isn’t contributing to any cleansheets so his loan is irrelevant. Gvardiol hasn’t even signed yet (and may not) and will need time to bed in.

Ederson is a poor shot-stopper - as long as he is there, their defence will always be suspect.

              Injured - Dias 4 weeks, Ake 5, Stones 8, Laporte 7, Walker 6.

              Loaned out - Cancelo

There were only ever 2 games where they had 2 of the above out at the same time - Stones and Walker for GW10 and 11. City have huge squad depth and these tiny injury periods (longest stretch being Laporte who isn't even first choice) are a pretty poor excuse to cover up the fact Ederson conceded 6 more than he should have.

You asked who was injured so I told you. It was quite disruptive and injured players rarely slot straight back into Pep's high intensity starting 11. and if they do that struggle a bit. City didn't keep the number of clean sheets last season that they normally do and my only point is that they may resort back to their norm of 20+ clean sheets with a fully fit and available back line.

Also, Stones was often used in midfield.

When Walker was injured City didn't really have a full back at all (Lewis starting because City literally had no one else).

My point is that it was disruptive and quite unsettled at the back for City and that it should be (relatively considering Pep's rotation) a bit more settled.

When City kept 20 ? Clean sheets the season before it was a lot more settled with Dias 2,400, Laporte 2,800, Cancelo 3,200 mins the with Stones and Walker both on 1,800 mins.

I believe it will be a lot more settled this season with a full contingent of defenders and maybe a few more signed, and that can only help the number of clean sheets City will keep.

Which is why Ederson makes much sense. Though he was injured too, what can you do?

Why would it be more settled with players leaving and new ones coming in?

You keep ignoring my point that none of this matters because Ederson is a poor shot-stopper.

I don't think Ederson is a poor shot stopper, but taking you as correct for poor shot stopper he has still had these clean sheets in the last few seasons ... 16, 20, 16, 19, 16, 20 and then 11 last season which is an outlier.

If Ederson gets 16 to 21 clean sheets as he has done so for 6 of the last 7 seasons, then he is on for 150+ points and a set and forget. There may be another Raya this season but it's not a given.

City may still concede as they did last season but it wasn't the total goals conceded that was the issue it was the single goal that sneaked in which is as much to do with defending as it is with his shot stopping.

For the all the above, I believe Ederson is still a good pick that is largely being ignored and he is going under the radar.

Wow this thread is still going. Perhaps I can end it by delving back further into Ederson's save points and rank among all GK:
                        22/23 5pts = 25th
                        21/22: 7pt = 24th
                        20/21: 12pts = 17th

Even if there's a massive uptick in CS, he's still very likely to be outscored by cheaper GKs with half the number of CS because he just can't compete on save points

I'm coming around to Ederson as a good bet for clean sheets with City's opening fixtures. I can always bank some cash by downsizing him to an outstanding 5m or 4.5, but we don't know who that will be yet.

Ederson underperformed his PSxG massively last season. Only Meslier, Ward, Sa, Travers and Bazunu were worse - he was literally putting up relegation-level performances last season.

This has nothing to do with defending - he is not a good shot-stopper, I don’t know how you can’t see that.

Points matter, number of shots stopped is subservient to that. I'm willing to see last season as an outlier as Hotdogs indicates.
Having said that, I haven't altered my draft - I'm just considering it. It would only be if Foden seems more uncertain of starts that I'd add Ederson.

I am not arguing whether he is a good shot stopper or not, my point is that in 6 of the last 7 seasons (before last season) he has averaged 18 clean sheets I think.

The number of saves City made in the last 7 PL seasons is 60, 62, 69, 65, 58, 62, 64.

Is last season an outlier ?

Will Ederson again rack up clean sheets ?

I just think he is being ignored on last season's PL results whereas he has been a very good asset for the previous 6 seasons.

Ederson has never been the highest-scoring keeper despite being the most expensive and has only been the highest-scoring City player once (by 3 points).

    The Charlie Price H2H League
    Code k7hzh6

For those who may not be aware I have created the above league aimed at those who may wish to joi n an invitational H2H league.
Some of you are probably already in the Scout h2h pyramid (will be trying to claw my way out of division 7 this season) but differently my league is a stand alone single division event. Bit like the Grand National but with 38 (weekly) obstacles and hopefully a much bigger field! Luck of the draw will determine your weekly opponent. All part of the fun.
Hoping this proves popular given that there are not too many h2h leagues out there compared to the Classic scoring variety.
Please join if this appeals. Thank you.

The only thing I’ve taken from any pre season so far is how fit Utd looked yesterday. Even though it was only 45 mins they look ahead of anything else I’ve seen. Come to think of it, I haven’t actually watched many games lol. Anyway, it can be a good sign. Arsenal were the same last season, nobody really fancied them and the came out of the blocks flying.

Yeah Steele is definitely on the radar. My problem with him though is Brighton tend to dominate teams and score a lot of goals. Cuts down on his bonus a save potential a bit.

"Fernandes, for example, again started in a more advanced role than Mason Mount (£7.0m) – although there were still instances when the former dropped deep and the latter sauntered forward."

This is something to follow. After today it looks like getting Mount over Bruno is not the best idea. However, it's too early to tell. Heatmap over those would have been more important than AWB's.

How many times & minutes have they played together and does that set their positions in stone ? Did Mount ever run and get beyond Bruno ?

Also what position did Mount play in the previous 2 friendlies?

We really do not know how it will all work out and I doubt Mount will be sitting and tucking in behind Bruno

Based on friendlies to date, based on what we know, as detailed previously, Mount is deeper and Bruno further forward. I honestly don't care about your questions as it is irrelevant to me. Who's deep and who's is forward is as simple as I need to know, for now. It may change but as of now, I know what I need to know.

No offence but I can't make it any simpler and they don't need to play together to devise the formation and where they sit. In the friendlies, Mount has been in the deeper role. regardless if Bruno has been there or not. Mount has also commented on this. You do what you want to do, it is fine. I will use the data that has been provided to date.

I am not arguing about getting one or the other, simply pointing out that you can't base too much on friendlies and just because Bruno may be standing ahead or Mount at kickoff doesn't mean they take up that position during the game, which is exactly what has happened as identified in this article and by Bruno himself.

Personally I think they will interchange, and Mount could be more dangerous coming from a deeper position and running past Bruno than Bruno in a more crowded zone of the pitch.

I don't think it's a case of 'People do know. To date. He has played deep and Bruno further forward', but if that is your take on it I respect that.

Yeah sorry, tone doesn't come across well over messages. I am not saying it is set in stone but based on what I have seen. Bruno will naturally be further forward and Mount deeper. This may change though and sometimes they will swap but I am looking for the natural position where they will mostly spend their time. Wouldn't mind saving 1.5M tbh.

I watched the Man U-Arsenal game. So here are my scout notes.

Firstly the caveat that you can't read too much into preseason. Overall I thought both teams showed flashes of brilliance, but also showed shambolic lack of focus at times. Utd wanted it more and were much more aggressive without the ball.

I think the Arsenal selections were much more informative in terms of probable first choice line-ups. I wouldn't be surprised to see the following come gw1:

    Ramsdale
    White Saliba Gabriel Tierney
    Rice
    Odegaard Havertz
    Saka Jesus Martinelli

That was the starting line-up for this match, other than the fullbacks and striker positions, where Timber, Tomiyasu and Nketiah started but made way for those above in their respective positions.

With the three new signings, I was most impressed with Rice, who seemed confident and assertive. I thought both Havertz and Timber looked a bit out of their depth, but no more than anyone else would being thrown into a preseason match for Arsenal vs Utd.

I thought Tomiyasu looked very good. He was on his wrong side, but seemed pretty comfortable playing with his left foot. I expect the LB position will be between Zinchenko and Tierney though, and Tierney also looked very good when he came on.

Utd were harder to read. They didn't field a side that looked like first choice in either half. In the first half they were something like

    Heaton
    AWB Varane Martinez Shaw
    Mainoo Mount
    Anthony Bruno Garnacho
    Sancho

But Mainoo and Mount were both getting forward and joining the attack. And the fullbacks were too. I don't know if this was fluid interchange of positions or disorganised lack of discipline. Either way Shaw, Bruno and Fernandes looked good. Eriksen looked the pick of the second half team.

Do you think if they both start, Bruno will be further forward than Mount, or vice versa?

        Just what I personally think:

Mount will play deeper against strong teams but bomb forward against weaker/low block teams

Bruno will always be further ahead, based on data we have to date.

Well I am going to double up on the Arsenal defence - hopefully Sailba and Ramsdale have got those silly mistakes out of their system.

One thing I'd caveat with this analysis is the thoughts around all 3 Arsenal signings. It's preseason, so we'll take it with a pinch of salt but Timber looked hopeless positionally, Havertz was way out of his depth playing in a new position and Rice was completely pocketed by an 18 year old.

None of which look anywhere worthy of the fantastic Arsenal side from last season. Havertz, Timber > Partey, White might be the answer, but that doesn't say much about the new recruits.

Agree about Havertz and Timber, but thought Rice made some great interceptions and tackles, and was pivotal in passing movement through the midfield. Great positioning and reading the game. Very relaxed. I expect he will up the intensity in competitive fixtures and be a real asset. Must have been watching a different game... Perhaps because it was a friendly he wasn't switched on the whole time and had a few lapses? But I saw lots of good things.

For Arsenal, it was just another step towards gaining full fitness and full-paced understanding of a totally new midfield (dynamic).
I thought Timber was actually really good. But Rice was pretty awful albeit probably due to Havertz who was also very poor. The gaps left unoccupied in the middle by those 2 will be a huge concern for Arteta and I think you will see more of Partey as pre-season ramps up or at least some sort of fix for that.

Burnley fans (if there are any of you) is Vitinho likely to start many games oop?

Hard to say at moment, depends if we sign another left-back. If Roberts is fit then he should start at right-back. When Vitinho does play tho, he usually plays very high up.

This Open has been a bit of a damp squid of a golf tournament. Harman has led from the gecko. For all intensive purposes the tournament was over after day two. The other players failed to go for the juggler

Zaha gone. Olise on the way out. Eze is gonna be on every single penalty and set piece. But the attack isn't very good anymore. Is he still a good option for u?

Zaha is gone. Olise either becomes a bid war as there is no release clause as being reported.

          Not anymore.

he would have been bought last season if thats the case.

It was renegotiated. Why would Chelsea bid £39 to £45m then?
