Ibrahimovic Suffers Knee Injury

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has tonight suffered a knee injury which saw him hobble from the field in Manchester United’s Europa League victory over Anderlecht.

The striker fell awkwardly when leaping for a cross, appearing to hyperextend his knee joint. A stretcher was called, although the striker chose instead to make his own way from the field with the help of medical staff.

United also lost defender Marcos Rojo to injury in the same match on 23 minutes – also to a knee injury – with the Argentine now another major concern for Gameweek 34.

Post-match, Jose Mourinho was not keen to commit his views on both setbacks…

“I don’t think they’re easy injuries but I prefer to wait until all the tests are done”

However, when asked if he hoped the initial prognosis was “fairly positive” he replied “fairly negative” and confirmed them as likely bad injuries.

Further quotes then surfaced from Mourinho’s post-match press conference…

“My feeling is not good for both. I want to be optimistic but I’m not.”

Ibrahimovic has been the top attraction in the Fantasy Premier League transfer market ahead of United’s double Gameweek fixtures at Burnley and Manchester City – more than 89,000 had swooped early ahead of Saturday’s deadline to secure his services. His participation in those fixtures, and perhaps the season run-in, must now be in doubt.

The Swede’s absence paves the way for Marcus Rashford to maintain his recent run of form and step up. The 6.5 FPL option again put in a sparkling display and has now scored three goals in his last three outings in all competitions having struck United’s extra-time winner against the Belgians.

Rashford had already been brought in by 58,000+ ahead of United’s two fixtures, although there will be some concerns that he may be subject to a rest in the first fixture at Burnley on Sunday; the 19-year-old played 120 minutes and would perhaps need to be preserved for the City clash. Wayne Rooney, who returned to the bench for Thursday’s tie, could now be a factor at Turf Moor at least.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Losing Ibra for Benteke might just be a blessing. I was always worried about losing Zaha for a Man City mid in GW35 (MID) as Palace have BUR, plus another good fixture for the BB chip in GW37. Even GW38 vs Man Utd is decent if United make it through to the final.

Now I can lose Zaha but keep Benteke, who dovetails nicely with Gabiadini.

GW34 - Benteke (liv, TOT) - Gabiadini (CHE)
    GW35 - Benteke (BUR) - Gabiadini (HUL)
GW36 - Benteke (mci) - Gabiadini (liv, ARS)
GW37 - Benteke (HUL) - Gabiadini (mid, MUN)
    GW38 - Benteke (mun) - Gabiadini (STO)

    Jaku
    Valencia Barragan
Hazard Zaha Townsend (for -4 from TCarroll) Eriksen King
Kane Kaku Negredo(for FT from Kun and c)
    Heaton Alonso Verty Daniels
Should I do the transfers or get Gibson or Bailly or DeGea or PVA for a hit instead of Townsend for a hit?
I am liking the AOA but not with TCarroll

Would you wildcard if your down 30 and no one above you has a wildcard. Could be a good week to move up. Or, still hold until 35-36 to make my move.

    Jaku (Valdes)
    Valencia Alonso Davies (Brunt, McAuley)

I now have 4 chips and no time to fit them in.

I'm wildcarding now and I'll take hits for form players when chasing at the end of the season.

No, but during the examinations of these type of injuries they typically say they'll have to wait a day or two before they can do a scan. The Burnley game is in 3 days. He is likely already ruled out for that game.

I think PVA got about 15 mins airtime in the scout cast. Rashford got about 10 seconds.

I was about to put him straight in after his last performance until I saw that scout cast and wondered what I was missing when I though a palace defender back from injury was a terrible choice and Rashford ideal.

To say I'm confobulated would be a misnomer

I've only made 2 early transfers is season due to being cash strapped:

    Kane before the fa cup

    Ibra before tonight

So Ibra to Negredo for a hit is on the cards?

Have zaha and Townsend so Benteke could be overkill, leaves me with enough in the bank to get de Bruyne for the week after...

I for one think this is a positive FPL development.

Everyone man and their dog would have had Ibra (c). This definitely plays into the hands of those players who have a skill edge and lots of casual players will have already spent points to bring him in.

Evening all, currently playing Olsson but am tempted to bring in Gibson or PVA for a hit. Gibson in 34 has better CS prospects & carries a goal threat but PVA also has attacking flare and a decent fixture in 35, any thoughts ?

Had a bit of a shocker with the Valdes and Ibra injuries, was set to line-up with:

    Valdes
    Gibson, PVA, Jagielka
    Alli, Hazard, Zaha, Coutinho
    Ibra, Kane, Lukaku

    Pickford, King, Yoshida, Stephens

    Got 1FT, do I:

    A) Roll FT and let King come in for Ibra
    B) Punt on Rashford
    C) Benteke / Negredo

In what way? I'm curious. 3 goals in 4 including a goal and assist vs Chelsea. Palace are impressive stats wise having one of the most successful dribblers (Zaha) and crossers (Townsend). Backed up by the passing of Cabaye and PvA and Ward at FB's and I'm not sure what there isn't to like?
