Dugout Discussion – West Ham vs Stoke City

Four nights of Gameweek 34 action begin at the London Stadium where West Ham United host Stoke City with both seeking to earn three points to ease relegation fears.

In truth, a victory for the Hammers tonight would surely seal mid-table safety, though, with a tortuous season run-in ahead of them, a win against the Potters looks vital.

In Fantasy terms, Marko Arnautovic is undoubtedly the key attacking asset on show. He heads into the contest against his former club with nine goals and five assists from his last 14 starts and, despite Chicharito’s equaliser at Chelsea, the Austrian remains the lone striker. Arnautovic scored in the reverse fixture at the bet365 Stadium and fired a brace and 16 points in his last home fixture against Southampton.

Chicharito is kept on the bench, alongside playmaker Manuel Lanzini who makes his return from injury.

Meanwhile, Stoke City’s players are auditioning for bit-part roles in our Gameweek 35 Free Hit squads with Shaqiri and Jack Butland the leading men.

Butland has just a single clean sheet in his last eight starts, though has returned 45 saves and 12 save points over that spell.

As for Shaqiri, his returns have dried up and have been reduced to just a single assist from the last four Gameweeks having struck three in three outings prior to that drought.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    FH team....?!

    got plenty of cash left...

was thinking the city mf triple up and the arsneal striker double up but got concerns with KDBs game time.

    pickford
    roberston - lejune - chambers
    salah (C) - D Silva - Mane - Sterling - Mili
    Jesus - Aubameyang

    Tosun - Tomkins - Long

I'm concerned over D Silva game time more then KdB to be honest.
But I keep telling myself that all the best players will play against SWA as they celebrate title in front of home crowd...just not sure...that will define this GW...Liverpool and City Team sheet...

That’s the point; it’s not that the game is dead, it’s that people aren’t doing well this week. A Kane brace tonight, or big returns from the united defence on Wednesday and they’ll be back in their droves

It's a psychology. I had 25 pts last week and I didn't find out until yesterday because I didnt care to look. I logged in half an hour before the deadline to make a transfer, didn't visit any FPL site during the week prior to that

60pts this week and I'm now here cause I've regained a little interest.

Its not a case of not liking to focus on something I'm losing at because it's a 38 step game and that was only one of them.

Not logging in after a run of bad weeks for me is a way to declutter my head in time for the next gameweek because it can all change so quickly and there's no point being annoyed all week over something you can't control.

So I just take a breather. Being on here or not doesn't make much difference anyway I'm becoming to understand. Spend an hour here during the week and it's the same as every other hour of the week, 'will x start' 'should I wildcard' 'should I this' 'should I that' over and over again. Spending hours and hour here is losing to me.

What DGW assets are you looking to bring in after GW35 that we’re not part of the WC32/33 template?

    Jesus? Sterling? Aubameyang?

Somewhat similar decision to make. But I've no idea what to think about City assets. Will they be rotated?

So, of those, I'm leaning toward Auba at the moment.

Jesus looks good for 35, by I will need to see how feasible it is to switch Barnes > Auba in 37.
One negative about being on FH this week is that it's impossible to tinker with your regular squad

Looking at gw35 transfer ... with an eye toward dgw37. No FH.

    (A) Mahrez out in 35
gw35 = City mid in (likely Sterling)
    gw36 = save FT
dgw37 (play TC) = Azpi, Gudmundsson, Vardy > Smalling, Gundogan, Lukaku (-4)

    (B) Vardy out in 35 (yes, regardless of form)
    gw35 = Auba in
    gw36 = save FT
dgw37 (play TC) = Azpi, Mane, Auba > Smalling, Eriksen, Lukaku (-4)

That's what's so galling. Feel like a took a gamble too many on rotation risks though. A better DGW for bench boost would have been one with weaker teams fighting for their lives and guaranteed to put their best players out twice.

Just a response to the numerous comments I’ve seen about “casuals” and “non-planners” I’ve seen on here since the weekend...

First of all, you “non-casuals” and “planners” have up to 15 players still to play. It’s like moaning at 5pm on a Saturday with half your team still to play.

Secondly, some of us (for one reason or another) planned not to load our teams with 15 DGW players this week. For me, I had used my FH earlier in the season. I still played bench boost with 6 SGW players. I kept these guys on WC in 32 because of a) fixtures b) form c) GW35 fixture and d) GW37 double.

It’s becoming annoying to see people think that a team not made up entirely of DGW players wasn’t planned. I am doing well in a number of cash leagues and am edging towards the top 10k. I’ve been playing for ten seasons now and thought this was the best way to play the game in my situation. Was I lucky that Liverpool assets scored and defence kept a clean sheet? Looking at the history, I’d say not. Same goes for Auba with a return

    Rant over

    1. Pep says
      • 8 Years

But people do moan at 5pm on a Saturday. Always. I agree with you, I got Ayew, Auba and Fernandez on WC 32 cause their gw34 fixture was good and it's sets me up a little for GW37. People are far too blinded by the double gameweek. Burnley face Chelsea, Brighton face Spurs and Brighton have trash fixtures after this.

A James Egersdorff said, some people feel that because a player a 2 games, theyre going to automatically do well in both but that's not the case and he's right.

Well said. I played my WC in GW32 and used it to plan for the rest of the run in. Like you, I'd used my FH earlier in the season (and glad I did), but can still get a full team out next week without hits, using the BB this week didn't appeal, neither did losing Salah & Firmino, so went with 9 DGWers and those two, and it's worked out fine so far. A couple of the loudest voices on here that were bagging people for WCing in GW32 are struggling this week. People plan differently depending on their circumstances.

        Spot on this.

The site always gets obsessed about the DGW's, so for those who have done things a little differently (I played my WC & FH chips early) a lot of the posts and content becomes irrelevant unfortunately.

I'm certainly not one of the prolific posters on here, but I've stayed away more over the last few weeks, as if you're not going the template WC - BB - FH - TC route, you're not part of the main conversation.

Anyway, well done on your season.

Couldn't agree more - the term "casual" seems to increasingly be used to describe anyone who deviates from the ffs consensus.

For what its worth, I really don't like the term anyway. Whilst it may well describe many players, it implies that there are just two types of player and two types of playing style, with the "non-casual" consensus entitled to the points.

Somewhere on the internet, there is a probably forum that laughs at the "over-thinkers".

All very fair, and I agree that you certainly don't need 15 DGW players to feel prepared for this gameweek or for the season run-ins.

The unique situation this time round is that various configurations of entirely, fairly average and completely unplanned SGW players could end up outscoring a team full of DGWers plus bench boost. That's pretty unprecedented and pretty unfortunate. The DGW template this time last season raked in a tonne of points.

As you say though, and as I say above, it's only halftime, and only quarter time if planning also for DGW 37, so it's all to play for!

our teams is different and so are our tactics/plans, but i agree with you in the sense that why does everyone care so much about others way of playing? i were one of those that wildcarded in 32 but that was mainly because i saw some players that i thought would serve me some fun, they haven´t so far but no point in moaning about it. the only thing that annoys me is when my decisions like choosing between Eriksen and Alli kind of stuff goes wrong. Or when i was trying to be clever and picked Coutinho early in for Salah, Pedro and Sané instead of Sterling back in Gw8. But then the one i am annoyed with is me, no one else-)

Cheers everyone for your responses (and the positive messages about my season - it is appreciated!). It's good to know that I am not alone in playing the game slightly differently to the FFS consensus.

FWIW I find the articles and general comments very helpful for the season as a whole, but agree with Sickboy's comment that if you don't follow the groupthink then a lot of the content (mainly the comments, but also the occasional article) can be of limited use in the final weeks.

I would love to think that the masses who have had their fingers burned so far this week will reconsider loading up on DGW players next season at the expense of form players with good fixtures, but fully expect Kane to bag a brace, United to keep a clean sheet and Lingard to pop up with a goal and everyone forgets what they were moaning about...

Definitely worth a shot, punty but that's what the FH allows you to do... both guaranteed differentials too

And iirc Bauer has been playing oop since gw 32

Nice idea but not sure Milner is a true OOP prospect unless he's going to play as an AM. If he's holding then he is at least as effective as a left back.

Milner was my first player in my fh team, he got his rest and vs a team like west brom i think he will start. But not 90 minutes but typical 60-70 minutes imo. a leaked team news would be good ye

if no news is leaked i think i´ll go van dijk instead.

my diff this week is triple Everton defense-) Newcastle is on form but now they have secured their place and often that tends to regression, especially away, and often in such games between two teams with nothing more to play for usually the home team has an advantage, does of course not mean they will keep a cleanie but seeing as there is little room for differentials this week i´l go for it.

        Some good points here, cheers.

If team news is leaked then hopefully be able to guess where (if picked) Milner is playing based on who else is playing.

Not sure I'd back Liverpool def otherwise if not a midfield Milner.
