Allsvenskan Fantasy

Allsvenskan Fantasy: Forwards

There are plenty of interesting forwards in Allsvenskan this year and I’ll try to do a brief overview of the most interesting options in the different price-brackets.

Premium forwards (9.5-12.0m)

Last season’s top goalscorer, Paulinho Guerreiro (12.0m) got 20 goals and 9 assists in 27 games. On penalties, a lot of free-kicks and the focal point of a very attacking side. The most expensive player in the game for a reason. If he remains fit, he is very likely to be at the top of the charts yet again. A small warning flag in that he does have a few yellow cards in him, but he seems to improve on that year by year. Top quality player who will benefit from the negative bonus point subtraction being removed.

Marcus Antonsson (11.0m) was fantastic for Kalmar back in 2016 when he scored 10 goals and 1 assist in 12 games, earning himself a move to Leeds United midway through the season. Like many before him, the step up seemed a bit too big and he got loaned out to League One side Blackburn Rovers, where he got 7 goals and 3 assists in 31 appearances. In the summer of 2018, he signed for Malmö FF and managed 8 goals and 3 assists in 15 games.

There are (as specified in the introductory article on the site) quite a few additional forward options for Malmö in Markus Rosenberg (10.0m), Carlos Strandberg (9.0m), Jo Inge Berget (9.0m), and Guillermo Molins (8.5m). Marcus Antonsson “should” be a nailed on starter but if he doesn’t hit the ground running/has a dry spell there are options to rotate for the coach.

Alexander Jeremejeff (9.5m) had a tough time trying to break into the Malmö starting line-up last year and only got 1 goal and 1 assist in 13 appearances. He then moved back to BK Häcken (who Malmö signed him from in 2016) and once there he exploded back into form, scoring 9 goals and getting 5 assists in 15 games. A cheaper alternative to his striker partner Paulinho, Jeremejeff looks primed for a great season yet again.

Mohamed Buya Turay (9.5m) has previously had successful spells at both AFC Eskilstuna (8 goals, 5 assists in 23 games) and Dalkurd (9 goals, 2 assists in 13 games) in Allsvenskan and is now going to ply his trade for Djurgården, who’s snatched him up on a season-long loan from Belgian side Sint-Truidense VV. Any nailed on spear-head for Djurgården in recent years has been a good fantasy prospect, as they tend to play to the strength of the solitary striker. This year they have new coaches, but Buya Turay has started off well and in the last two games he’s scored three goals.

Vidar Örn Kjartansson (10.0m) has signed for a half-season loan deal with Hammarby. Playing for an attacking team, he’s got a good goalscoring record in Allsvenskan where had a great half season for Malmö in 2016, scoring 14 goals in 19 games before being sold. Back in 2014 for Vålerenga in Eliteserien, he got 25 goals and 3 assists 29 appearances. Between those stints he’s had some strange career decisions and now he’s back in Allsvenskan to try to prove himself. I personally think there are plenty of goals in him but there are a lot of forward options and it will be impossible to fit them all in.

Mid-price forwards (7.0-9.0m)

Chinedu Obasi (9.0m) looks to be at a bit of a bargain pricing, most likely derived from no spot-taking duties, not playing for the most attacking team and a bit of an injury record. If fit though he will score goals, he is too good for this level really. He’s played for Hoffenheim and Schalke 04 on a semi-regular basis between 2007-2015. Still “just” 32 years old, he’s got some good years left in him and he does seem to thrive at AIK.

Karl Holmberg (8.5m) had a bit of a tougher time last season but still got 8 goals and 6 assists in the end. The season before that he got 14 goals and 3 assists. If he keeps his starting spot with the introduction of Nyman (10.0m), he will be in the points.

It seems like forever that Viktor Prodell (7.0m) broke through and scored 15 goals and 4 assists in 29 games. That’s probably because it was a long time ago (2012) and he’s not been quite as prolific in recent years, bar 2016 where he managed 13 goals and 3 assists in 30 games. My guess is that he hasn’t dealt with the lack of secured starts in Elfsborg in a great way (purely speculation though) and from when I’ve seen him play, he’s looked like a player that’s very short on confidence. His move to Örebro should see him nail down a starting spot and it could lead to him getting back to his old goalscoring ways.

Pawel Cibicki (8.5m) is the new starting striker for Elsborg, he’s had some good times at Jönköping and Malmö in previous years. Possibly on penalties, focal point, point to prove, all the good stuff you’d want.

Budget forwards (4.5-6.5m)

This is a very tough price-bracket this year, at least from the off.

Ex-Malmö player Deniz Hümmet (6.5m) looks to have made his way into the starting lineup for Elfsborg. One to watch this season, don’t expect miracles but he should snatch a few goals.

Denni Avdic (6.0m) 19 goals and 3 assists for Elfsborg – in 2010… Since then it’s been ups and downs for Avdic (mostly downs), his time at AIK between 2016-2018 netting him a shockingly poor 5 goals in 55 appearances! Famous for his shoe-gate back in 2016 where he didn’t play because AIK had a shoe deal with Adidas that meant he could only wear their shoes, and apparently Adidas were not able to make a pair fitting Avdic and his feet. If the shoes are laced just right at AFC Eskilstuna remains to be seen, there is potentially still something left in him.

Anyone stand out from the options listed?

Who that’s not on the list do you think will be a good prospect this year? What strikers are you picking from the start?

Leave your comments below and best of luck to you on Sunday when it all kicks off!

And our Allsvenskan coverage is complete, pre GW1 deadline!

    How's your team looking?

Here's mine. I'll admit, I don't know much. So please pick this apart, raise any concerns. And post your draft as a separate comment and we'll get our RMTs where we want them!

    Linner Joelsson
    Sundgren Witry Hodzic Kossounou Henriksson
    Batanero Andersson Thorarinsson Jarl
    Antonsson Jeremjeff Obasi

    Thoughts? Be critical!

I’ve just moved to Sweden, so thought I’d dive into this to help the integration!

I’ve tried to take some lessons from FPL but have still been tempted into usual punts like Ravel Morrison...If he flops I’ll probably move to Astrit Ajdaravic - sadly I remember him from his Charlton days. He’s got the sort of skill/set piece work to be very effective though.

      My squad:
      Linner/Joelsson

      Mets/Witry/Danielsson/Sandberg/Kossouno

      Risks/Larssons/Thorarinsson/Morrison/Jarl

      Turay/Jeremejeff/Hummet

I’ll be living in south Stockholm near the Djurgårdens/Hammarby ground. Some serious scouting potential there!

        Welcome to Sweden! 🙂
Ravel could be an interesting shout, I just don't want to gamble on him from the off with them facing AIK och Malmö away in the first three.

Tele2 is quite a decent arena for Hammarby/Djurgården, it's more "international" and big so I'm sure you'll like it. Both teams had more traditional smaller arenas before the move and neither are especially happy about sharing with the rivals, but it looks likely to remain that way for a long time going forward. Artificial grass is a benefit in that not all teams visiting are used to it (although quite a few teams have it in Allsvenskan these days).

        Good squad! 🙂

    Hansson
    Karlsson Sundgren Isherwood Danielsson
    Christianssen Levi Thorarinsson
    Nyman Pauinho Prodell

    Jolsson Kojic Jarl Astedt

Even more clueless... but I dont think it looks too bad.

I like it overall. I want Christianssen I think

I think this game is made for complete fodder on the bench as the mid price tags are too hard to guess for newbies! So prefer maxing out on Paulinho and Christianssen. Also heard that Nyman's return has very good potential.

Yup pretty certain, but Joelsson who he has on the bench should come in then. One to monitor going forward, might be a 4.0 staring keeper for a while depending on Hanssons injury.

Big shout out and thanks to both Meltens and Hansel for these excellent preview articles. It has been a busy week with LOTS of reading and I think we're all eager to see the season finally starting this Sunday.

Been tinkering quite a bit and decided to ditch Paulinho despite me being 100% sure he'd never leave my team, haha. It really feels like Salah vs Mane with Jeremejeff the Swedish equivalent of Mane. Budget is tight at the start.

    My draft:

    Hagg Johansson - Amos
    Sundgren - Larsson - Witry - Lofkvist - Kossounou
    Ajdarevic - Romario - Tankovic - Gerzic - Jarl
Jeremejeff - Buya Turay - Kharaishvili

The Kalmar keeper and Goteborg striker served me well last year, so decided to get both again. I'm aware Larsson has competition from Vindheim, but a Malmo defender with 2 goals and 7 assists in roughly 1700 minutes looks like a decent deal IMO. The 4.0m bargain picks speak for themselves.

I'll be keeping a close eye on Ostersunds as I'd like to get one of their mids, preferably after gameweek 3.

    Good luck all! 🙂

Budget is tight indeed, and Östersunds is one to monitor after GW3. Gerzic might not get that many attacking points but possibly bonus?

I don't really know Allsvenskan, but are Granli and Ødegaard likely to be starters for AIK? I'm a bit baffled that the supposed best defensive team in Allsvenskan have signed those two.. Particularly Ødegaard.

I think teams in Allsvenskan are rather good at fidning these kind of players and turning them into quality players. Last season AIK signed a completly unknown Robin Jansson from the third division, he instantly became a key player, helped them win the title and now play in the MLS. Other clubs also have a history of this, with IFK Norrköping picking up very average strikers like Sebastian Andersson and Kalle Holmberg, turning them into top scorers in the league.

Sometimes it's not just about the quality of the player but the environment, style of play etc.

    Pettersson
    Sundgren Granli Witry
    Christiansen Tankovic Celik Thorarinsson
    Jeremejeff Buya Turay Islamovic

    Amos Jarl Odilon Henriksson

Due to thern's absence, I downgraded to Thorarinsson and switched Morrison out to Tankovic. Would like Morrison back at some stage but can do without the double up ÖFK attack, especially GW1.

Right, enough with the tinkering..... I'll not likely make any more changes (famous last words) and know I'm going a bit off-script in midfield here, but thoughts on my team?

    Bråtveit (Amos)
    Smith - Sundgren - Karlsson (Hodzic-Kossounou)
Romario - Ring - Moro - Morrison (Jarl)
    Paulinho - Obasi - Cibicki

    1. TallestJohn
      • 7 Years
      5 years, 1 month ago

You would know more than me on this but I thought Bråtveit seemed slightly overrated in Norway. Then again he was still a good fantasy option and seems to be in another decent team so should be okay.

Obasi annoys me cos I thought he'd be really good when Hoffenheim were a new team back in the day. AIK seem to have a really unbalanced squad, none of their attackers really tempt me.

  11. TallestJohn
    • 7 Years
    5 years, 1 month ago

    Curci
    Mets, Brorsson, Löfkvist, Wernersson
    Gall, Batanero, Levi
    Cibicki, Kjartansson, Jeremejeff

    Blazevic; Gustaffson, Danielsson, Ali

Might go for Buya Turay but Jeremejeff is absolutely nailed in my team, he made sure my rank actually improved despite not having Paulinho last season.

I think the only insightful point I have to make is I never really felt I had to wildcard in FAS last season which informs some of my picks e.g. double Hammarby keepers. If think Levi and Cibicki are good enough for Rosenborg and Molde (Levi better than Helland last season imo) they're surely good enough for Elfsborg.

Very much like the Levi-Cibicki double up, I've considered it myself! Currently on just Levi though and that looks to remain the case.
Hammarby defence isn't great but maybe we'll be better this year (I kind of doubt it) 🙂

    2. Bob Sacamano
      • 5 Years

I would avoid both Levi and Cibicki. Elfsborg play absolutely dreadful football, very negative and averaged LESS than a goal per game last season. Not even with good fixtures I would concider any of them under the current manager. However, continuing like this he should be gone by the summer and then at least Cibicki looks like a bargain.

Haha I get that last season was horrible but surely they can improve a bit this year?

Thoughts on what AIK signing Kolbeinn Sigthorsson might mean for Obasi? Doesn’t feel great as I have him in my team. Should be alright for gw1 though.

Diouf - Paulinho - Buya Turay*

Been thinking about Prodell. Will he get enough game time though?
Paulinho was the first player in my first draft, and hasn't left since. If anything I might end up with BOTH Paulinho and Jeremejeff!

I'm actually not too far away from a Paulinho/Jeremejeff double-up. Could downgrade Christiansen to a 8.0 mid for example.

Pretty sure Prodell plays every game but then again I haven't followed Örebros pre-season closely. Yeah might look at that Christiansen downgrade, Levi could be a shout instead at 8.0.

If he'll get more playing time this season, he's one to consider.

Do like Levi. He was good for Rosenborg last season in the games he got. I think it was a wrong move to send him on loan, but it looks like he wouldn't get many minutes in Horneland's team.

The worry with downgrading Christiansen is that he's difficult to bring in again – unless making two transfers.

Yeah I get that, but on the other hand the 8-9 mids that start out strong should see quite some price-rises as many will jump on. Early WC always a saving grace as well 😉

Tankovic is currently in my squad, we'll see if he makes it until the deadline. He is important for us but it's been difficult to understand how we will line up in attack based on pre-season and Kjartansson coming in. I actually think he will be good but he tends to be quite patchy in form, if he seems off it from the start it might not be worth hanging on to him. He should create a lot of chances so attacking bonus might come into it as well.

Yeah, that's what I figured from what I've read/heard. He comes at a decent price though, and would offer my team a way into the Hammarby team (other than Kossounou).

Kjartansson might make my team before the deadline though. It'll probably be him or Buya Turay, I think.

I might be biased (probably in this regard) but I think Kjartansson is going to be absolutely brilliant for us. Last year Hammarby scored the third most amount of goals, behind only Malmö and Häcken. We need to score goals as our defence tends to let us down and we often conceded in the first 15 minutes last season meaning we had an uphill battle from the off...

No Häcken striker then, I presume? 😉

If going with Kjartansson over Buya Turay, I might have to look closer at that Djurgården mid. Maybe someone like Ajdarević perhaps.

Not from the start no but I’ll almost certainly get Jeremejeff in as the season progresses. If Buya and Jeremejeff had reverse gw1 fixtures (which seems like a weak reasoning) I’d probably have Jeremejeff instead of him.

That seems like perfectly fine reasoning to me! Don't think I'll go with more than one Häcken player going into GW1. Might be a priority eventually though.

Buya might even be a goo captaincy option this GW. Same with Kjartansson come to think of it.

Yup, current captain is Buya. Got a feeling he gets a brace minimum! 🙂
Only worry with Kjartansson as captain is he hasn’t played any games yet and (might) start the first game on the bench. I’m willing to gamble on him but not with the captaincy I don’t think!

That's definitely something to think about. Might just go with Buya this GW, and make sure I have an easy way to get Kjartansson should he get returns early on – and just as importantly start games.

That leaves the third striker spot and midfield to sort out!

Could somebody who has a little bit knowledge of Hammarby IF please tell me who the best defender of the team with the most secured starting XI place is? At the moment I have Sandberg but I'm really tempted by Mads Fenger. At which position does Odilon play?

I'd say we're most likely going to line up with Sandberg - Fällman - Odilon/Fenger - Jean Carlos.
Odilon plays centerback and has started all of pre-season. Is he nailed on? No, but he's probably going to get quite some game-time and if he keeps looking good (along with all the positive things everyone in and around the club is saying about him) I think he can retain a starting spot. At 4.0m he seems a huge bargain!

Sandberg is most nailed, not really much in the way of competition there and he is so important for us in the attacking play with the crosses. We're not great defensively though! 🙂

I just played the Nordic Football Podcast and they praised Odilon a lot. But I keep Sandberg for now. Hopefully Hammarby's defence is better this season. I'm optimistic (-: In any case your first 4 fixtures are great ...

      Thoughts on Kharaishvili vs Prodell?

      1. Bob Sacamano

IFK Göteborg is a mess and will probably struggle this year. Khariasvilli is a good player but was very dependent on set pieces last season. Was a good option as a 6.0 midfielder then, but I wouldn't concider him this season. Prodell is a proven goalscorer at this level, and price looks decent to me. Defenitly an option as a 3rd striker, although I think there are too many premium options to not go without 3 top class strikers.

Thanks for the info. A 8.5 striker spot would fit nicely into my current draft, so that's why I had to check with the forum for opinions. Prodell is cheaper of course, which would make it easier to upgrade elsewhere.

Re. premium strikers; do you think it's better to go with three premium strikers than spreading funds more throughout the team?

I guess it's a matter of taste. Personally, I just find Antonsson, Buya, Jeremejeff and Obasi so good that I don't wanna exclude anyone of them (currently have to turn down Antonsson). I also like the look of Kjaertanson, Islamovic and Nyman so I can't see myself going without 3 premium strikers this season.

That's a good point; guess all of these can deliver big. Struggling enough with my midfield, so three premium strikers might be an alternative.

Thanks for the articles. I'm not familiar with the league but I am hoping for a good start to keep my interest high throughout the season.

Due to the shortage of budget midfielders, I decided to go 5-2-3 and 4-3-3 in the first few weeks. Here's my squad with 0.5 ITB (just in case), would be good to hear some suggestions on nailedness of my players:

      Bratveit
      Sundgren - Larsson - Löfkvist - Danielsson - Kossonou
      Christiansen - Tankovic
Antonsson (VC) - Jeremejeff - Buya Turay (C)

Bench: Amos - Ciercoles - Jarl - Astedt

Any other Malmo defenders you would recommend? How about Brorsson or Safari? Larsson's attacking numbers were pretty great but he's expensive too.

I'm also not sure if going without a Norrkoping player is a good idea.

Do you know any website where we can see predicted lineups?

Tough to say, they seem to have Nielsen - Bengtsson - Safari as the three centerbacks most of the time.
Wingbacks rotate something like Rieks/Traustasson and Vindheim/Larsson. Either of Larsson/Vindheim can be great when and if they play, just hard to know from week to week!

Binaku had nice numbers attacking wise last season as well (albeit small sample size). I saw he was just signed by Norrkoping two days ago. I thought he would be a good pick but probably won't play this week and has AIK next week.

Oh, that's bad luck! Just have to make the most of it in the coming gameweeks 🙂

Yeah 🙂 it's my first season so I wouldn't have done much anyway.

I played very casually last season and still managed a OR to be happy with. Had a bad first GW too, so missing out on one GW doesn't have to be season defining.

Diouf in the starting lineup but not on the pitch. Injured?

Damn. Looking at a -4 for next GW already. The three minute draft after Brorsson injury news didn't help…

What do you guys think about my team? I wanted to have an attacker and a defender of top teams with the best fixtures:

                    Hägg Johansson
                    Sundgren - Sandberg - Lindgren - Dagerstal - Danielsson
                    Thorarinsson - Larsson
                    Kjartansson - Jeremejeff - Buya Turay(K)
Bench: Joelsson - Jarl - Loeper - Astedt
                    2.0 itb

Goalkeeper was hard to decide between Hägg Johansson and Bratveit. Decided for Hägg because of his good statistics last season, Kalmar's good pre-season and because I already have Danielsson in my team ...

Literally just realised the crazy potential of triple AIK defence with Park the Bus, especially if they have a DGW at some point

As I've understand, there could be a doubble gameweek in the summer (first week after the break). However, AIK will then face Malmö and Norrköping at home, which doesn't sound that tempting to me, not for the attacking players eighter. Norrköping would play AIK away and Sirius at home, at least that's a little bettter.

Is there no auto subs in this game? My non playing GK (Hansson) is still in goal...

There are auto-subs, I checked the rules again. I did notice last season in both the Allsvenskan and Eliteserien that sometimes it took a day or so for the auto-subs to come in. Check again tomorrow and they should have been done.
