How the top 10k FPL managers set up for Blank Gameweek 33

The top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers are largely fielding full 11-man squads for Blank Gameweek 33.

Their careful planning over recent weeks means that they have got into that position without having to use chips en masse.

When we consider the most owned players among the game’s top players this season, there is a total of 12 assets with a fixture in Blank Gameweek 33.

That allows us to see some of the most common starting XIs for managers at this level.

In goal, Lukasz Fabianski (£4.7m) looks the favourite, despite West Ham’s woeful form.

It would appear that making changes to other areas of the team were more important in Blank Gameweek 33, while saves are probably a given in a match away at Chelsea.

Matt Doherty (£5.3m) has held onto his place, still commanding the backing of 40% of those inside the top 10,000.

Andrew Robertson (£6.8m), Trent Alexander-Arnold (£5.5m), Ricardo Pereira (£5.4m) and Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£4.5m) are the other four members of the most popular defence, all of whom have either played already or have a fixture to come in Blank Gameweek 33.

Four midfielders follow the same story with Paul Pogba (£8.8m) the only one owned by more than 40% of the top 10k managers not to have a fixture in Blank Gameweek 33.

Eden Hazard (£11.1m) is the most popular at this end of the world rankings, sat in 79% of teams, while Mohamed Salah (£13.2m) and Sadio Mané (£10.1m) are both in 60%.

Ryan Fraser (£6.2m) set to host Burnley with his Bournemouth colleagues on Saturday, is the most popular budget choice with 40% of the top 10k in possession of him for Blank Gameweek 33.

Again, up front, it’s just one player without a fixture this weekend and, not surprisingly it’s Raúl Jiménez (£6.8m), who has been one of the best budget options this season.

Chances are, the top 10k are holding onto the Mexican ahead of further Double Gameweek action and are unwilling to take him out even for one week as he has risen in price so much since being purchased.

Jamie Vardy (£9.1m) has become the most popular forward option at this end of the world rankings, sat in 60% of teams inside the top 10k.

As you can see from the table above, very few managers in the top 10k played chips in this particular Gameweek.

Just 3.66% of them played their second Wildcard of the season, while even fewer, just 2.17% deployed the Free Hit chip.

That shows that they have been planning for this week for some time considering how many played their Free Hits for Double Gameweek 32.

By way of contrast, overall managers were not quite so well prepared for Blank Gameweek 33.

The most popular players going into this depleted round of action show three forwards without a fixture in Sergio Aguero (£11.8m), Marcus Rashford (£7.6m) and Jiménez.

In total, just nine of the 15 players are ones involved in Blank Gameweek 33.

Chips were largely not used overall either, Wildcards proving the most popular, with activations from 1.42% of managers.

That may be because ones such as the Free Hit and Triple Captain were used en masse in Blank Gameweek 31 and Double Gameweek 32.

We already saw that Hazard was the most commonly selected player among the top 10,000, but his effective ownership is even higher, currently at 126%.

He has a much more comfortable lead in the captaincy statistics at the top level as he did in the Fantasy Football Scout poll.

In that vote, he finished with 24.8% while Salah was just behind him on 23% and Mané on 22.2%.

Among the top 10k, Hazard has been captained by 46.1% for Blank Gameweek 33, Salah has been backed by 22.7% and Mané 13%.

What's this about not activating WC and making profit on risers etc? Surely whenever I activate my WC it doesn't matter, I just need to bring people in before they rise and sell anyone who drops?

Sorry if confusion... First season 🙂

Whether you activate now it or not, you can make profit on risers etc by bringing them in and shipping the fallers before they fall. The time to press activate wildcard doesn't matter in that regard.

I think the idea is since WCs don't affect price changes, people wanna make sure their transfers help the movements. A bit extreme imo, but there you go.

Yes at an individual level. The issue is that once you're on a wildcard, the transfers you make don't effect the price. So if *all* of us who were going to wildcard didn't wildcard until the last moment but made transfers normally and racked up hits we'd profit. But because we all play our wildcards early, we don't. It's a tragedy of the commons situation.

You are correct, proceed with your way of thinking. Some people make their transfers and take huge hits before activating wildcard because they think this will affect risers/falls when in reality their moves are a drop in the ocean.

Have seen some horror stories of people on minus 40’s who forget to activate WC

Do you vote or give a small amount of money to charity? Both of these things are extremely unlikely to make a difference from just one person. Every little helps though and if everyone thought that way the world would be a much worse place.

I know comparing those things to FPL seems strange, but it's still a similar principle. It probably won't make a difference but it's worth doing providing you aren't going to be a donut and forget to activate WC.

You can get players you don't want but if double rise you can sell for 0.1m profit though be lucky to get 1 probably and not miss out on risers you actually want.

Not sure how I read this but could just do it as regular transfers and activate wildcard before deadline to negate hits. Can be a bluff in mini leagues as if shows maybe 3 transfers made for -8. And you sort it late pre deadline

Guy on here who finished #1 a few seasons back, went on to do that and forgot to activate before the deadline.

Just play your WC, it won't make a difference since only a very small % tries to be clever...

Thanks for the replies. I feel he's got to play Kun over those fixtures, who can score against anyone, but the rest of the team are a minefield. Yet feels wrong to go with 1 city in a dgw, so Bilva seems the best value pick considering price and form.

Potential WC team for GW34 with BB in DGW35.

Smattering of Brighton to catch their DGW34 as well as GW35.

Surely City have to play their best 11 in GW35 against Spurs and United?

    Ryan (Foster)
    Trippier, Duffy, Kolasinac (Femenía, Valery)
    Sterling, Mkhitaryan, DSilva, Jota (Højbjerg)
    Kane, Agüero, Jiménez

You might get lucky and all 3 strikers bag but if one gets injured or goes dry then you need 2 transfers to bring a good mid in. In short, better not.

    3. F_Ivanovic
      • 8 Years
      5 years, 2 months ago

If front 3 get injured you'll have to downgrade and a lot of money will be freed up..meaning you might have/want to use 2 transfers rather than just the 1. Same with a few other positions.. lack of price points could hurt.

  7. F_Ivanovic

    First draft...

    Ryan Leno
    Bednarek Kolasanic TAA Duffy 5.3
    Son Mane Eriksen Sterling JWP
    Aguero Rashford Jiminez

Kind of want a 2nd Liv defender but out of price range unless Gomez can be trusted to start from now till end of season.

    1. McEwan
      • 14 Years

Have to write off that plan without a downgrade imo. Personally will go with one or the other in City attack

      1. F_Ivanovic

        5 years, 2 months ago

If one is good I don't see why not both. I kind of prefer Aguero out of the 2 but he can be replaced by Kane/Auba/Laca where-as Sterling there isn't much competition in midfield spots for him.

        1. McEwan
          • 14 Years

It’s certainly not a terrible idea. Just personally I would look to go with one or the other. Like you say with some of the other names there, difficult to fund them in addition to both city boys. Don’t see Gomez as an option at this stage, would look to get to VVD or Robertson for the double up or not at all

      2. F_Ivanovic
        • 8 Years

        Can go:

        Foster Ryan
        VVD Bednarek Kolasanic TAA Duffy
        Son Mane Alli Sterling Hojberg
        Aguero Rashford Jiminez

Sacrificing Eriksen, JWP and Leno for Alli, Hojberg and Foster to fit in VVD.

If you're getting Watford players for the BB, you can bench them afterwards.

    How this looks?

    Ryan Foster
    Valery Dunk Kolasinac Robertson Laporte
    Mane Sterling Son Deulofeu Camarasa
    Kane Laca Jimenez

    GW35 Camarasa to JWP

I think this is what the template will be. All sensible picks. Duffy over Dunk if you can afford.

I think its the most balanced you can get with this. Cant afford Duffy hope he doesnt score a goal haha

    Hazard (c) feeling confident?

Wish i’d of capped him over Mane, but if i did cap Haz then i wouldn’t be too overly confident either.
Each time he’s scored well he’s tended to do nothing the next game.

And just not sure on Kane value for money with his 'all rounder' role, think I might go Son and Eriksen and a defender.

Ryan, Duffy, Dunk.. 1 clean sheet is likely given their xGa At then Amex.. points points points. Plus the big centre halves could score from a set piece

I would if there was a single decent attacking option. As it is, I can't see anyone beyond a defensive double-up. If Gross was fit it would be a different story of course. Murray is too old, there's no way he'll play all the doubles.

I don't think I'm confident enough to go anywhere near Watford defence. Gracia loves to rotate that defence. Only Foster I guess, but I'm not getting him.

    Draft no.2 for GW34 WC & GW35 BB :

    Foster / Ryan
    Trippier / TAA / Kola / Duffy / Valery
    Mane / Sterling / Son / Doucoure / JWP
    Kane / Lacazette / Jimenez

Don't think Aurier will be back for 34 at least so Trippier looks nailed at home to Huddersfield, if Aurier is back for 35 rendering Kieran a rotation risk then can switch to Laporte then or maybe even Doherty perhaps? Sound like a plan? Any thoughts much appreciated, thanks.

Well, if my ML rival wasn't sure if I was gonna play WC, the 13.9m ITB probably gives it away.
