How Zouma’s future could impact Everton defensive potential

Everton’s defensive potential in 2019/20 could depend on some external factors.

The Toffees have already been targetted by Fantasy Premier League managers a team to invest in for Gameweek 1.

That’s because they top the Season Ticker for the first six matches of the new campaign.

At the time of writing, Lucas Digne (£6.0m) is sat in 28% of teams, signifying the interest in Everton’s defence for the start of the season.

He was a key part of helping his side keep eight clean sheets in the last 11 matches of 2018/19.

But Digne was not the only important member of the back-four that produced such an impressive achievement.

Alongside the Frenchman was Chelsea centre-back Kurt Zouma, who spent the 2018/19 campaign on loan at Goodison Park.

As things stand, the Frenchman is back at his parent club and was involved in Chelsea’s first pre-season friendly.

With Zouma’s future currently up in the air, there may be some who are cooling their interest in Everton defensive assets.

So the aim of this article is to assess his contribution to the Toffees defence last season so we know whether or not a potential absence from the team at the start of 2019/20 would reduce the clean sheet potential of Digne, Jordan Pickford (£5.5m), Seamus Coleman (£5.5m) and the like.

I have been harping on about the Everton situation.
I am uncomfortable with central defenders and hence, the same with defensive points.
I will get Digne because everyone else will have him, but I will be more comfortable with United defenders or even Chelsea initially.

Well I've been listening and I'm taking a pass on Digne.

Gueye is the key for me. Without him the current system will fall apart.

My thinking too mate. Zouma was the key for me. 6.0 eats into a huge part of the budget.

    A) Sterling & Vardy
    B) KDB & Kane
To go with my other big hitter Salah

Think KDB & Kane myself, I think those are the value picks this season. Kane has good rotation fixtures with Salah for captaincy the first few weeks also.

Little too heavy at the back for my liking. Good overall though.

Looking good I'm also heavy at the back this season, if you're worried about Tottenham fullback rotation I'd maybe swap Ederson for Lloris and Trippier for Walker?

    Rate my team please!

I've got some cheap players in for the bench, but you'll notice probably :^)

    ------- 3 - 4 - 3 -------
    Goalkeeper: Fabianski
Defenders: Digne - AWB - TAA
Midfielders: Sterling - Zaha - Bernardo Silva - Salah
Attackers: Jiménez - Deulofeu - King
Bench: Button - Dendoncker - Kelly - Simpson

    thanks in advance 🙂

So it looks like Trippier is heading off to Atletico for a Medical today, will be interesting to see who nails down a RB spot at Spurs, Im guessing it will be a battle between KWP/Aurier & Foyth, with KWP likely to start the season there with Aurier arriving back late and same with Foyth who's suspended for the first 2 games.

No such thing as reliable journalist for Spurs. Closest thing is Alasdair Gold and half the time he's full of shite.

That would be hilarious if Kieron trippier signs for one of these top European teams. He will be so out of place bless him

Irrelevant as I'm not a scout of a top European team

You're also not a Spurs fan I'm presuming so therefore you cant see the reasoning behind the confusion of many of us as well as neutrals. Obviously Trippier is still highly regarded outside of England after his World Cup, but here in England we have seen the massive drop in levels from his performances.

I mean he did have a stormer of a world cup, one mediocre season doesn't make him a bad player...

Did he have a stormer or a World Cup overall it was he just key from set pieces against a streak of mediocre sides ?

    Reply to all you hounds:
Not saying he is a bad player he just does not fit the profile of the role arsenal are trying to buy into. Obviously they’d have kept Ramsey if they could, am saying they can do better than ceballos to fill in and I guarantee that is not their first choice by any stretch

First tip, this is quite an old article, you're more likely to get responses if you post on the latest one (more traffic an all that).

Team looks ok to me, Redmond always fails to back up his attacking stats with actual goals, but maybe this season will be better for him.

Maybe release some of the funds used on keepers to upgrade elsewhere.
