Recapping the best Brighton players ahead of FPL restart

Now that the Premier League is gearing up to a restart on June 17, we are producing a series of refresher articles to help get you ready for the return of Fantasy.

We are currently recapping which players went into the coronavirus (COVID-19) suspension in the best form, using each club’s last six matches for the analysis.

We have also been assessing the impact of recently appointed new managers in the Premier League, so this series covers the other 15 sides, continuing with Brighton.

As we are sure you understand, a lot has changed since the climax of Gameweek 29, with Premier League players unable to fully train with their team-mates for over two months. However, it should still serve to know who was performing best before the break.

As this article uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those signed up to a valid package can access it in full.

Anyone else thinking of going 4 or 5 at the back when this restarts? In Germany it looks like attackers get rotated as part of the 5 subs very regularly

5 out of 16 team kept a clean sheet. Doesn't feel like more than usual

I noticed lots of yellows. 31 in the 4 Saturday games alone.

It’ll be wise to have 15 starters in your team to mígate any subs
Also depends what minute the designated subs are. if they are 61 min then yeah, for 5 defenders but if it’s 58 mins then maybe not.
      Centre backs may be preferable

As simple as this. Whether it works or not most of the fun from FPL comes from hoping for attacking returns.

Attacking pts from defenders with maximum bp:s and 4 cs points are the biggest fun, correct.

I guess if you look at players/teams that perform well over extended periods of games every 3/4 days like Xmas time then you might get a feel for which players could do well with the returning condensed schedule also.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the teams with nothing to play for punching it in and some of the players looking for moves making sure they do not get injuries. Lots of traps for the regular fpl player but where there us disruption there is opportunity for the better managers.

        True

If it was a Venn Diagram we probably have Teams trying for Europe in one circle, Teams Fighting Relegation in another circle, and Centreback/Talisman in the third

Then focus team selection from the pool of players in the overlap of those three

*two even - you can’t really have a player from all three of those groups 🙂

There’s probably more likely to be merit in FPL Virg’s “Talismen & Centrebacks” team selection philosophy

Although Walsh from FML FPL has setup with TAA, Doherty, Digne, Alonso & Ritchie with DCL lone striker

He concluded that because defenders were rarely getting subbed in Germany that the same would happen in the PL

Wouldn’t be so sure of that myself - seems a big enough leap to assume that will both continue indefinitely in Germany, let alone repeat itself in England... but it could work of course

We’re all going to be dealing with ramped up frustration levels when it comes to FPL matches though (and we know how emotional they were already before 5 subs!)

Nearly double the amount of players getting hooked before 59 mins is going to cause carnage on here on matchdays - the levels of seethe will be off the charts

I think it's best to make sure everyone in your team is a starter. There is going to be plenty of tears with the remaining games and the best way to protect yourself is to have sure starters.

I think investing in def at the start will be a great strategy and then shift as we see a pattern develop.

But its quite difficult to predict so many variables. Team/individual form, tactical shape, subs, empty grounds, motivation, covid fear factor.... you name it!

I think best strategy to start with is to have 15 very llikely to start players in your squad. I think to have only 1 or even 2 subs is potentially very risky. And than after the restart we can see more clarity.

Not posted in a while and pleased to see a lot of you still having fun on vFPL which is great to see

See below... how am I shaping up for the season restart? I have FH and WC in hand (and BB), and if the first week back is confirmed as the DGW then it would make sense to use FH then...

Any other thoughts or changes would be appreciated??

    Henderson Pope
    TAA AWB Saiss Lundstram Lascelles
    Salah KDB Fernandes Sarr Cantwell
    Jimenez Vardy DCL

That is a nice team. I suppose it depends on what other fixtures, outside of the doubles, are in the first gw back. I have used my transfers over the last few weeks to remove the fodder in my team but have no dgw players other than Kdb.

Teams looks good, it's very similar to mine but I've gone Auba and Pope over Vardy and Henderson. I don't think the second playing keeper is a necessity given that like me you have a WC to use before you BB. The first week back has already been confirmed as a DGW (see link below), and I'm planning to FH it if it doesn't look like there is going to be a big DGW later in the season when the rest of the fixtures are announced.

Yes, Initially just about anybody has something to play for (eg BUR, CRY are only are only 6 points back, EVE 8) from a euro spot, but if they don't get off to a good start their chances will diminish rapidly. So the closer they start to the Euro qualifying spots or relegation spots the better from a FPL prepective.

I was never a fan of this theory, fighting relegation won't turn let's say Norwich into Barcelona all of the sudden, there's reason they're last in the table. Of course level of motivation is different for different teams but don't think there is hard data to prove that "most to play for" thing.

And Liverpool need just 6 pts to be winners so they're not exactly good example either.

Yes. Leicester is another example. I had the likes of Nzobia fighting relegation for Wigan some years ago. It's not necessarily for teams for me. Players from teams playing for something.

Guys, sure, it will work for a team or two from time to time but these are just exceptions, not rule. As a fans of this theory your brains just looking for data that coming along with it, that how it works.

I'm a fan of numbers and law of averages so to speak. I would rather look at the PL table and ask myself which teams are over- and underperforming so far. And I would rather target them, in fact that is exactly what I'm doing every year from January (or at least try :P).

No? Tell me if these don't happen every single season for the last decade or so:

Big six being, well, big six.

2 out of 3 promoted teams being relegated straight away.

Golden boot winner with 22-25 goals max. Best assister with around 15-20.

Everton trying to break into big six.

All the mid table teams being, well, mid table at the end, no matter how promising they've started the season.

And so on. I'm sure there's more.

At the moment all teams have something to play for apart from 5 of them , and looking at the fixtures I don't want any of their players anyway. Ask again after another 3 matches or so.

Sorry 6 if you include City, but they have a double first so I wouldn't shed any of them until after that.

I'd like FPL to resume as close to it normally would as possible.

Chip strategy without the comfort of an assured big DGW is tricky. As a WC and BB holder I am thinking of going straight in with the WC to get the most value out of it, with around 7-8 DGW-ers and a lot of United, Chelsea, Wolves around them. FH-ers are in the best shape so I don't want to lose a lot of ground to them.

If a BB opportunity presents itself later in the piece I will hopefully have the players to complement it using FT's.

There is no evidence that people who have had Covid-19 are then subsequently immune from it. It's actually from the same family as the flu viruses, so it's not like once you've had the flu, you never get it again is it?

Hence, no. I won't be getting players based on if they've had the virus or not

Liverpool and City will likely have nothing to play for after a couple of weeks. When does ditching the likes of Salah, Mane, Trent, KDB, VVD (who all have mega ownership) become a viable strategy? No guarantees they will be rotated anyway, but nailing the timing of switches to Kane/Son/Rashford etc who will be massive differentials looks key.

I think Klopp will want to keep Salah etc as match fit as possible for the Champions League so don't see them getting massively rotated.

How much money should you have on your bench? 4.3 mids and non-playing keepers/defenders is a risky strategy. For those who have a bench boost left, it may make sense to beef them up a bit. But what if you don't?

Imo Lundstram and Cantwell will be the best 2 here.

I don't have plans for how much money to be on the bench. Never had. Maybe others have.

I wouldn't bother much without BB, non playing keeper and 4.3/4.4 mid would be there, plus two cheap, playing defenders.

With BB you need that second keeper and better mid (Cantwell looks best so far), fairly simple.

Don't sit on the fence: should Official FPL give us unlimited transfers before the game resumes or would that be deeply unfair to the patient managers who still have their second wildcard?

Some of the changes they have made over the years appear to have been influenced by suggestions made in discussions on this site about changes that we would like to see, such as the replacement of the Main and January Wildcards by two half-season wildcards.
A number of our leading Scouts have appeared regularly on the FPL Show, and I think that Geoff and David (and Mark before them) probably maintain fairly regular contact with them.

I expect fpl to return & carry on where it left off. It’s unlucky for those that wildcarded shortly before the Covid break but they’ve also had a number of ‘free transfer weeks’ to tweak this, as has everyone, albeit without any knowledge of lay ahead. It’s unfortunate but I highly doubt any rule tweaking to appease a minority will happen.
‪It’s simply not in the game’s rules to ever change the number of chips we receive. (Fpl said as much in their statement) Since we’re still essentially mid-game, they can not and will not change the rules to something we all agreed to when we signed up at the beginning of the season. ‬

FPL should resume at the end of GW29 position the PL was halted and reverse all transfers made since. It is wrong to suggest everyone could just carry on and make moves, some had more important things to do and some sadly won't return.

I took a -12 to gamble on City + Arsenal and got no value out of it but a huge drop in OR. Everyone will be free-hitting for the double now so it's doubly painful. Still don't mind a horrible season FPLwise as long as football returns and the season gets played out!
Hope you're keeping well Netley btw?

Spurs, Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Leicester, Wolves and Sheff Utd i.e. the CL / EL place chasers.

Brighton, West Ham, Villa, Norwich, Watford and Bournemouth. i.e. the relegation fighters.

Liverpool only have a little to play for now. Once they win their two games it is party time. Man City don't have much to play for either as they are pretty safe with their CL spot.

Pool should keep playing for a points record and so some teams don't gain an advantage if they field weakened teams.

Yes, but there are 2 important factors to consider IMO

        1) Liverpool. Yes, they just need 6 pts. But lets not forget they play some intense games on the run they surely wouldnt want to lose. Everton, City, Arsenal, Chelsea... plus they have pretty competitive players up front still competing for individual honours - goals, assists, season prizes. The same in def with TAA & Robbo. So, be careful ditching most valuable Liverpool assets.

        2) Man City. Yes, they have nothing to play for, League is gone, they fall from 2nd spot. And there is that FFP sanction still to decide. But, they have an incredible good run of fixtures and still on Champions League & FA Cup and we all know what Pep thinks about having the squad ready to perform at its best. There will be rotation for sure - what else is new right? - but again, be careful ditching most valuable City assets.

Feels good to be back ladies and gentlemen!!

I've just been on the FPL site for the first time in ages and it now doesn't say how many transfers we have or anything like that. But, it seems like we can make transfers now (although I didn't hit the 'make transfers' button, so I'm not sure about this)

Does this mean we have unlimited transfers for now? Or if I hit 'make transfers' will it just not allow any transfers to be made?

It is like that for last couple of weeks actually, from what I've heard you cannot confirm transfers anyway. Think it's just provisional/limbo state of the website, waiting for PL to give us schedule.

Waste of a City spot imo.

I'll probably end up using my FH for the opening DGW and my 3 City players will be Laporte, KDB & Kun.

But, even if I wasn't using FH, I still wouldn't get Ota

When Fpl talk about ‘additional multiple gameweeks’ the consensus on here seems to be that this means single rather than double gameweeks. Am I the only one who thinks it implies doubles? I’m confused as to why you’d need the word ‘multiple’ in the phrase at all if it wasn’t meant to suggest doubles (or even triples!).

in lazy writing "additional gameweeks" could imply just one.

I know but it’s the word ‘multiple’ I’m interested in. Why is it even there if it doesn’t mean double?

The phrasing is ambiguous at best.

          Additional multiple suggests more DGWs

Multiple additional would just suggest GW39 through to GW4X

It is ambiguous but considering they want to get the season over and done with quick, it'd likely there be lots of doubles. The next one is already a double gw for a start.

It's only a double to get every team on same number of games played in case the league is curtailed.

So the fixtures look like as you were in the order they are played.

Its 17th/20th been confirmed as a DGW or a SGW (just 17th)? I dont suppose an announcement has been made yet?

    Thanks
