Fábio Borges wins inaugural Virtual FPL crown

Virtual FPL came to a conclusion on Sunday evening, with Fábio Borges – a name many of you will be familiar with from our Hall of Fame – clinching the inaugural title.

Ragabolly’s Fantasy management game launched way back on April 11 and has filled an FPL-shaped void for thousands of us over the last two months.

Gameweeks had been held four times a week until recently, when the pace was stepped up in order to complete this simulated season before the real-life version restarts on Wednesday.

Fábio, a long-time leader of the overall standings during the middle part of the campaign, reclaimed top spot on the final day, having gone into Gameweek 38 in third position.

Despite taking a hit and not using a chip, he leapfrogged Atticus Finch and Jürgen Clough to finish ten points clear of the chasing pack.

The decision to hand the armband to Anthony Martial proved to be a sage one, with the Frenchman racking up a 16-point haul.

Atticus, who had led the way in six of the preceding seven Gameweeks, finished in second despite the deployment of his Bench Boost chip.

The podium finishers above were the 1-2-3 in our Fantasy Football Scout mini-league, too, with T Rev, Mr Hindsight, Merseyside is Blue and Joe Gumbie also featuring in both tables.

Let’s Talk FPL’s Andy finished top of the pile among the Mods and Cons, while the aforementioned Mr Hindsight was the winner of Greyhead‘s The Great and The Good league.

Not only that, Mr Hindsight won the final of the second vFPL Cup of the campaign.

For those that are interested: Liverpool won the Virtual FPL title on the very last day, with Newcastle United, West Ham United and Aston Villa consigned to the drop.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the Golden Boot winner, finishing on 32 goals.

A huge shout goes out to Ragabolly for all his hard work in creating and maintaining the game, as well as those who also contributed their free time to this incredible project – the likes of TopMarx, Hassanality and FPLHints, amongst others – since its launch.

That Smith press conference tells me that Mc Ginn's time will be well managed and i can see how with the likes of Hourihane and other players that he can plug straight in. So Ive taken him out of my team and working Fleck in, removing a SHU defender to make way.

      1. JabariParkersEyelid

Would you be putting a villa defender in to do that though? I'm not going near their defence.

I'd be debating a straight swap to el ghazi if taking mcginn out but obviously his minutes are a worry as well.

    Best 4.3 defender for BB?

A - Lascelles (SHU) I have Fernandez so would be a double up - hope for a 0-0?

Sorry for not being helpful, but I think we need to take one gameweek at a time.

Go all in on this one with Bench Boost (and WC / FH) in the back pocket and take it from there.

*if you don't have a WC then some further foresight and planning is seemingly required

      1. SADIO SANÉ
        • 8 Years
        3 years, 9 months ago

that's certainly the simple way of looking at it, and does make picking a team this week a lot easier

If the chips are there: WC and FH then it seems to be go all in on this week (BB or not). Then rectify with new information as these next couple of GWs pass.

I may play FH next week to postpone the need to decide on a more permanent WC that will be needed after.

      FH31

you can get both Salah/Mane on FH31 and then sell one of the City from your DGW30 squad players for GW32. It's hard to get even one of Salah/Mane with FT for GW31, because they are all more expensive than Sterling.

With playing GW31 with FT you are basically forced to have 3 City players away at Chelsea and maximum 2 Liverpool at home vs CP.

and in GW32 you'd probably captain Auba on FH, who you'll probably have from BB this week anyway

in general your team from GW30 will probably look better in GW32 than GW31

think this is as good as i can get with no WC left. Aguero & Saka will be moved to Jota & Son next week to plays 3-5-2 going forward.

    GTG with BB?

Strange how difficult it was preparing for GW29 given the blank and not fancying Auba at City. Didn't fancy all the hassle that came with it so never got him in. In spite of the WHM blank we'll never know how that second game would have panned out.

In contrast, this DGW preparation in terms of selection has now been handed to us on a plate. Now, I don't know whether it is cabin fever, but I'm wondering if we're underestimating Arsenal and Auba in the context of a DGW. I still see Arsenal as a mid table team, generally, but two games on effectively neutral grounds and one at against a City defence that's left a lot to be desired this season. I don't blame people for pondering Ozil and Pepe.

    1. SADIO SANÉ
      • 8 Years

Arsenal are a top 6 team, and I believe the table will reflect that in a few weeks time

        • 8 Years

I honestly rate Wolves and Leicester as better teams tbh, but they're part of the traditional top 6 and they have a knack of squeezing out points and results even when they're not in great shape.

yeah I like those two too, but no chance Arsenal are on Sheff U/Burnley/Palace/Everton levels - if by some miracle they don't lose to City I think they are going on a streak

          1. Ser Davos
            • 8 Years

I think Sheff Utd's defence and all round game plan is better than Arsenal's. Clearly Auba (and Lacazette) are levels ahead of the SUFC frontline and Arsenal top 6 experience and probably a better bench for utilising the five subs. A revitalised Everton under Ancelotti could compete, but ultimately I agree

Still debating between using FH or making use of unlimited transfers and BB this week.

If I did FH, I'd revert back to this for 31+ :

    McCarthy (ARS)
TAA (CRY) - Doherty (BOU) - Holgate (nor)
Salah (CRY) - Son (WHU) - KDB (che) - Traore (BOU)
Vardy (BHA) - DCL (nor) - Rashford (SHU)
    (Button - Cantwell - Lascelles - Simpson)

    Thoughts on if I'm best...
    A) FH (revert back to that)
    B) BB (new team for 31+ onwards but no WC)

    Thanks!

Hello all, first time back since March

Really haven't given any attention to FPL since the last game was played.

In terms of Chips and Wildcards, is there a smart/template way of navigating the next few weeks, or are we just making it up as we go along?

I have Free Hit, Bench Boost and a Wildcard left.

If they were both to play the same minutes I wouldn’t say so. History would suggest Sterling will get more minutes. Also if sane plays, Sterling is much more appealing and mahrez will likely miss out.

This is my current team (stupidly wildcarded gw28 what was supposed to be a dgw):
    Pope (Krul)
Taa Awb Doherty - Egan Taylor
    Salah Kdb Bruno Doucure -Saka
    Auba Jota Dcl

What would you guys do with FH and BB available?
    1) FH this week and get back to the team above for GW31

    2) Finetune the current team and get smth like this for BB in GW30 (10DGW), allows to do Mahrez Kun->Son Rashford:
    Leno-Reina
    TAA-Egan-O'connell-Lascelles-Saiss
    Mahrez-KDB-Grealish-Saka-Bruno
    Auba-Kun-Jota

I have a very similar team. How many players would you want to change from your existing team?
I think it comes down to whether you want to keep Salah or not really

probably 3-4. Key concern with 1 is that it's hard to get Son without sacrificing Salah.
I'm now considering doing 2 with no Liv attack, and FH in 31 to have Son vs WH and Liv trio

Yeah same spot i used W/C 28 and future but now I’m screwed!
I’m trying to create a team worthy of BB this double while keeping some key players I wouldn’t normally if had W/C left. Gl

So number 2 for me (are teams very similar)

cheers mate... key debate for me is getting Son for GW31 and what to do with Dcl(have value tied up in him). Son works better with bb this week and FH next week, whilst it's the opposite for Dcl

But if there’s a ball dropping out of the sky on the edge of the box he’ll be out of bed in a flash to volley it in the top corner.

    KDB, Grealish, Mane, Fleck, Xhaka
    Auba, Jimenez, Abraham

      Where is Kun?
Double City defence (Walker?) is not the way to go for me

    Who scores more in GW30+...

    A) Pepe
    B) TAA

would normally say TAA but playing without a crowd might help Pepe - tight

Yeah very tough. Think the fact Pepe plays twice is the decider. It’s a FH team so will revert back to having TAA afterwards

I'm leaning TAA because it's not a FH team and I might want to FH in 32 instead of 31 … in your case a Pepe punt might be worth a go...at least when he blanks in the first game you've got another to look forward to 😀

Yeah I definitely wouldn’t get rid of TAA if it wasn’t a FH. Good luck!

Just thinking back to that Reinaman chap who used to post travel pictures. Nice bit of nostalgia.

When all this settles down does anybody have any travel adventures lined up? I'm possible going to Berlin next year, as well as skiing (first timer). Miss Barcelona. I've been twice and the place is incredible.
