Fábio Borges wins inaugural Virtual FPL crown

Virtual FPL came to a conclusion on Sunday evening, with Fábio Borges – a name many of you will be familiar with from our Hall of Fame – clinching the inaugural title.

Ragabolly’s Fantasy management game launched way back on April 11 and has filled an FPL-shaped void for thousands of us over the last two months.

Gameweeks had been held four times a week until recently, when the pace was stepped up in order to complete this simulated season before the real-life version restarts on Wednesday.

Fábio, a long-time leader of the overall standings during the middle part of the campaign, reclaimed top spot on the final day, having gone into Gameweek 38 in third position.

Despite taking a hit and not using a chip, he leapfrogged Atticus Finch and Jürgen Clough to finish ten points clear of the chasing pack.

The decision to hand the armband to Anthony Martial proved to be a sage one, with the Frenchman racking up a 16-point haul.

Atticus, who had led the way in six of the preceding seven Gameweeks, finished in second despite the deployment of his Bench Boost chip.

The podium finishers above were the 1-2-3 in our Fantasy Football Scout mini-league, too, with T Rev, Mr Hindsight, Merseyside is Blue and Joe Gumbie also featuring in both tables.

Let’s Talk FPL’s Andy finished top of the pile among the Mods and Cons, while the aforementioned Mr Hindsight was the winner of Greyhead‘s The Great and The Good league.

Not only that, Mr Hindsight won the final of the second vFPL Cup of the campaign.

For those that are interested: Liverpool won the Virtual FPL title on the very last day, with Newcastle United, West Ham United and Aston Villa consigned to the drop.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the Golden Boot winner, finishing on 32 goals.

A huge shout goes out to Ragabolly for all his hard work in creating and maintaining the game, as well as those who also contributed their free time to this incredible project – the likes of TopMarx, Hassanality and FPLHints, amongst others – since its launch.

Nketiah most likely if pre Covid and friendlies are anything to go by plus the 2 games in quick succession mean perhaps some rotation and subs.

I did some back of napkin adding-up and it does seems like McGinn and Grealish were neck and neck on points before McGinn got injured. Obviously an element of risk with whether he goes straight in the side, but sure they're fighting for survival and need to stick him straight in.

Is keeping Cantwell because I've owned him since GW1 the most ridiculous reason to keep a player? Would be out for a Saka/Fleck type probably

    1. Klaren
      • 6 Years

I'd keep him over Saka but Fleck is a better option if you don't already have 3 Sheffield United.

I've pretty much convinced myself Saka is playing LW, so it's a tough one 😀

        1. Klaren
          • 6 Years
          3 years, 10 months ago

I think he might play in midfield but highly doubt he'll play LW. Lacazette/Nketiah usually plays central forward so Auba is likely to play LW. Martinelli is also an alternative there.

            • 8 Years

he's been training with the wingers and is clearly better than Nketiah, if Laca is out of favour then Pepe-Auba-Saka is logical and also their best front 3 - but we'll see

** could be Ederson+McGinn... but wouldnt want them for 31, hence current set up.

Reina might not play both Villa games, and/or have lost his place by GW31... which GK would you suggest instead of Dubravka?

Appeal is he has a decent fixture both for BB30 and for 31 when I cant play Hendo.

Doubt I will have a FT to get rid of one of them down the line, indeed. Got a decent TV so it makes it ‘acceptable’. Not ideal for sure.

This being said Im only spending 0.5 more than with Krul for instance. Not the end of the world imho. Thx for the replies anyway!

First time I've logged in on here since March, are there going to be any extra wild cards or anything like that? Will the hits in the last game I played (Arsenal game which was cancelled) still count for the next game? Which are the most important articles to read for the restart???

No chips, no money ITB but I’d like to finish higher up my ML and improve my rank if possible

I haven't got a WC, I feel that I'm having to be quite cautious for GW30+ and GW31+ in terms of these unlimited transfers this week.

Really tempted to ignore the likes of Grealish, Saka and Fleck in favour of Traore and maybe Jordan Henderson. I won't have to worry about shipping them and can navigate having 3 Sheff Utd defs and Nketiah when GW31+ rolls around. That way I can plan Mahrez to Bruno as my FT.

No, going to BB this week. I think Traore might do better over the next GW than Grealish. Maybe I'm biased against him as not a fan. Will be interesting to see how many free kicks he manages to win without the benefit of the crowd reaction.

If you're playing WC, then I'd definitely consider waiting on Bruno and strenghing elsewhere.

For those BBing this week and WCing next week, what players are you keeping because you have value tied in them, if any?

I'm keeping TAA and Jimenez, and still weighing up Bruno.

Surely you want KDB anyway given the DGW?

Been watching some 11v11 training clips on City+, gotta say Sane looks sharp! Sterling and Foden looking real good too. Won't be able to keep up with the rotation come Wednesday!

How did KDB look, there were rumours of him putting on a bit of weight during lockdown.

Any link? Would love to gamble on Sane. How did Mahrez look?

__City+ is a subscription service exclusive to city fans (my brother has it), so unfortunately no link. To summarise every city player that's been mentioned on here for dgw look bang on the money!... It's all down to Pep now!!
