FPL team news: Gameweek 19 Covid latest plus injury updates

We’ve got the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) team news information in our third press conference summary ahead of Gameweek 19.

Three matches have already been postponed but you can still catch the headline updates from Thursday’s pressers – featuring Brentford, Burnley, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Southampton via this link here.

Wednesday’s team news information concerning Arsenal, Aston Villa and Brighton and Hove Albion is available here.

For much more detailed information, check out our Predicted Line-ups page (which is being refreshed on Friday evening) and Injuries and Bans feed.

Az and Neale’s video round-up is below, meanwhile:

And for other help and advice, from our weekly Scout Picks to team reveals, head to our complete Gameweek 19 guide below:

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

The injury list is looking much better for Antonio Conte, following their Covid scares of recent weeks. He confirms that, apart from the hamstring problems of Cristian Romero and Ryan Sessegnon, there is nothing to report.

“There were no injuries after West Ham. Romero and Sessegnon are still injured and, until now, no bad news. No, we don’t have new cases of COVID. All the players are back in training.” – Antonio Conte

CRYSTAL PALACE

It’s been quiet on the injury front at Selhurst Park recently, with just James McArthur (hamstring) and Nathan Ferguson (match fitness) unavailable. However, Patrick Vieira revealed in Friday’s pre-match presser there have been “a couple of cases” of Covid in recent days, without revealing any names.

“We hope we’re going to be okay [to face Spurs] but when you’re looking at the number of cases around we start to be worried.

“We had a couple of cases in our football club in the last couple of days. We try our best to prevent the situation but it is worrying because the evolution for the next couple of days we don’t know how it will go.

“I’m not worried about the players’ welfare regarding the [frequency of] games during this period because it’s been like that for years and years. I’m worried about their welfare regarding COVID. Players coming back from the COVID situation and asking them to play with not enough training is a lot on them.” – Patrick Vieira

NORWICH

Midfielder Mathias Normann (pelvic) has suffered a setback that rules him out for the “foreseeable future”, while the Boxing Day trip to Arsenal will come too soon for Milot Rashica (groin). Two defenders who won’t feature over the festive period are Grant Hanley (shoulder) and Andrew Omobamidele (back), whilst Ozan Kabak has recovered from a calf problem but may not be risked at such a chaotic time.

“He [Kabak] is back to fitness now, but to ask him to play two games in three days is going to be too much. Andrew Omobamidele will be out for another ten days with the back stress injury.” – Dean Smith

Covid victims Joshua Sargent, Lukas Rupp, Pierre Lees-Melou and Christos Tzolis are among those who could return but Christoph Zimmermann (ankle) remains unavailable.

WEST HAM UNITED AND LEICESTER CITY

David Moyes hasn’t faced the media since Wednesday’s EFL Cup defeat to Spurs, although did at least reveal then that Michail Antonio missed out because he tested positive for Covid. The West Ham boss hasn’t ruled him out of facing Southampton, however:

“The answer is I don’t know. He has no symptoms and I have to say that he is double-vaccinated. For all those things hopefully we might have him back, yes.” – David Moyes

The suspension of Vladimir Coufal is over, as are the injuries of fellow full-backs Ben Johnson (hamstring) and Ryan Fredericks (groin). The situation still isn’t clear on Aaron Cresswell (back) though, who has been on the verge of a return for some time.

Kurt Zouma (hamstring) and Angelo Ogbonna (knee) remain out.

Brendan Rodgers similarly hasn’t held a stand-alone pre-match press conference ahead of Gameweek 19 but we got new embargoed quotes on Friday, in addition to those made earlier about Jamie Vardy (hamstring).

Asked if any of the players missing in midweek would return on Boxing Day, Rodgers said:

“Definitely not Harvey [Barnes]. Wardy [Danny Ward], no. Jonny [Evans], question mark. Timothy [Castagne], yep, but whether he’s available or not, because he’ll just be returning to training, we’ll have to wait and see.” – Brendan Rodgers

FPLMarc Newcastle fan that spends far too much time thinking about FPL.

Thoughts on a hit for Lacazette -> Ronaldo (C)?

Captain would be Son if not

I wouldn't take a hit to get Laca out when he's about to play Norwich

Laca was a 2 week punt, so I agree the hold is a good option v Nor. Played deep last game though. All things considered, I think Ron will make back the hit. Ron v New is a better Cap option than Laca v Nor imo

Apart from lpool and king I have big doubts over Antonio and esr and foden starting

    Thanks

I would probably just take a hit to get at least 8 players and you may get lucky if those boys you mentioned do come on. In these times I'd save free hit for a truly dire situation

It all boils down to this with the free hitters for me if most of the games involving the top 4 are postponed.

A). You would get more points with a free hit team of mostly Brighton/Southampton etc players during a gamesweek where others barely score any points

B). You would get more points free hitting during a double gamesweek featuring most of your top 4 teams players even if most of the free hitting teams are similar.

    Surely the answer is B?

That's what I'm thinking. Feels so underwhelming using your FH for dross players and probably coming nowhere near using your budget.

Yeah, it too many games are decimated, you might just be better off fielding 2 or 3 players than FH. Won't know of course until boxing day

Personally IMHO I think that by the time Dgw 22 comes round, and as expected covid cases increase, that not many will risk playing their FH chip, in fear of cancellations of the second matches due to the gw being spread over potentially 9/10 days.

If you have 2 FH chips then this upcoming gameweek may be the time to play it (at the deadline) if city, spurs and United games are on. I would still have a fully playing bench entirely made up of 3pm kick off players and a VC.
This may be a cautious approach but that is the way to play at the moment.
Good luck to all and stay safe. It's only a game and we all have a good excuse for a poor season already.

No A remains an option as top 4 teams rotate during DGWs.

Arsenal being cancelled forcing FHs might be the best thing to happen.

Think it'll really half the crowd with those playing on with 7 or 8.

If you make a transfer before a free hit will your transfer be there after the free hit?
Would like to get rid of Salah for Son but if the arsenal game is postponed would like to free hit.

    Foden, Silva
    Lacazette

(Steer, Salah*, Jota*, TAA*, Dennis*, Gelhardt*)

    A) Raphinha & Dennis -> Watkins & Saka (-4) (field 10)
    B) Salah & Dennis -> Ronaldo & Saka (-4) (field 10)
    C) Salah & Raphinha -> Son & Saka (-4) (field 10)
    D) Salah & Gelhardt -> Son & Watkins (-4) (field 10)
    E) Salah, Raphinha & Gelhardt -> Son, Watkins & Saka (-8) (field 11)

Well I would imagine it is most people’s preference, not to mention it’s better marketing etc for there to be lots of games on.

Playing them in dribs and drabs isn’t ideal for Sky or customers imo

I find it a bit nonsensical myself if you're getting to the stage where 2-3 of 10 games are being played, I think at that stage a gameweek in its entirely might as well be delayed as I don't think getting that few games on will do much for congestion

If I knew that they would give us a third FH, then I would 100% play it this week. If I knew that we would only get 2 FHs then I 100% would not.

This was my biggest issue with the second free hit, once you start changing the rules halfway through then it becomes a total guessing game.

yeah i brought him in instead of Ronaldo, reasoning is that Spurs have suddenly looked good under Conte, and Kane in the last game looked like he has fire in his belly again, is he playing well for a possible January transfer ? who knows,

also Utd have looked a bit toothless so far under the new manager so Kane can certainly match or outscore Ron over the coming fixtures, but if i'm totally honest the main reason i bought Kane is so i could afford Maupay in for Dennis to get 11 players for this week 🙂

I have the following team and just think this gameweek is perfect to play it. And use the other one in gameweek 22.

    Thoughts?

How’s this for a wildcard team. Exact money:

    De gea
Cancelo / Emerson royal / Dalot

Would you FH this team? I cant get it for a -4 (Salah and Raphina out for Son and Bowen). I have not used any FH yet. Rank: 26K..

    Ramsdale
    Cancelo - James - Alonso - Livra
    Son (C) - Foden - Bowen
    Laca - Antonioo

    Foster - TAA - King - Jota - Brownhill

Nothing personal but why do people on here ask others on how to manage their teams? Why don't players make their own decisions on who to bring in or out and refer to this forum for news/tends as opposed to asking others what changes their teams need?

Not really, most posts tend to simply ask what changes should be made to their team. And in some cases those same people will come and complain later that they should not have listened to the advice.

Fair. There are many types of posters. Some are just looking to have their hand held and have the decision made for them.

Problem is...people who are giving advice are also the ones who need advice themselves.

Haha true enough. I try to couch my responses as 'this is my take, I'm not an expert by any means, but what I'm doing is xyz...'

I think this is where we see value in holding the consistently good player's advice in higher regard than others.

Sometimes it's a feel thing too. There are posters i trust and i don't actually know how well they're doing, but they give sound feedback, imo. And that has to be colored by my own competency too right? I'm at 476k, should i be listened to? I think i get more out of this forum than i contribute.

Because asking other serious competitors their opinion can be a valuable way to gain insight, and more minds to pick apart a move, a piece of play or strategy you may have missed. Fundamental to gaming and and why we have forums such as this.

      1. SINGH
        • 5 Years
        2 years, 4 months ago

Yes, but I don't see many posts where the OP offers their feedback on why they want they advice or changes to make. It's a simple - is this good, yes or no? Others will engage in conversation about why they want advice but that's just a handful.

The reason why is the same for everyone: to score more points.

The fun is in the discussion of the justification of this player over that, and how a rather complex puzzle arises out of a seemingly simple game. I see tons of discussion about that...albiet, amongst some of the lazy posts, as you say.

I always wonder why someone would listen to the advice of one or two random answerers who may be (and very potentially are!) terrible at FPL in the first place!

My rule is that all posts should be "Valuable" in some way. While I don't personally share my roster and ask for input, I don't have a problem with others doing it, because the resulting conversations can often times be Valuable for others -- in addition to the original poster.
I define VALUE in this context as helping something think, offering advice, making someone laugh, etc.

So I must then add that the "Look at me, I scored 86 points this week with 3 to go" posts have absolutely ZERO value what-so-ever for the community, and those posters should be tarred and feathered and hanged from the virtual village square IMO.

There's a few times where I've posted my planned team (eg WC or start of the season) and then had more knowledgeable people tell me that X will be replaced by Y when Y is back fit, or that X is going to be moved into a more defensive position because of an injury to Z. I don't often post my team, but half the time when I do I get useful comments back.

I also quite like seeing people post their teams, as when I see a lot of them, I start to seeing recurring players who aren't in my own team, which might then get me looking at the underlying stats of that player.

Broja has been in and out of the team all year. All it takes is 1 game where Martinelli doesn’t score and he’s dropped for Smith Rowe again. Postponements galore. Arsenal no DGW’s too

Every time Broja comes in he does well. Managers recent comments about him tend to imply that he will be getting more minutes. I’m getting him in as a replacement for Davis to strengthen my bench. Will be bench fodder most weeks anyway.

Your -24 is seven transfers yeah? So six hits.

-4 is based on your previous player getting 2 and your transfer in getting a 2. That's a net -4, which in normal cases you would be right.

In this case, you're taking a -4, and the player you would be replacing would be getting a zero as they're not playing. Worst case your player you bring in gets 2. That's -2. Multiply this by your six hits, that's -12 cost.

The hits you take ought to be players who will have a DGW which means eventually you'll be at net zero (all things going right) which may even save your FH on GW22.

                So, worst case its -12.

        2. Paqueta Rice
          • 3 Years

        • 7 Years

That's if you have no playing bench? If you have a full playing bench like you should by now it's only a -4 or -8 which isn't worth a FH. I've got through the last few gameweeks with 5/6/7 players out by taking -4's.
