Scout Picks - Bus Team

Scout Picks Gameweek 38 early selection: Spurs and Chelsea triple-ups

We’ve put together our Scout Picks ‘bus team’ ahead of Gameweek 38 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

For those who haven’t seen this article series before, it’s essentially a rough, first draft of our regular picks, which get finalised and published much closer to the deadline.

We are limited to a £83.5m budget for our starting XI (making it affordable for those whose team values are low), although the bench options aren’t just unplayable fodder as you might have in your own squads or Free Hit teams.

The final picks will stay as they are and cement our weekly selection based on the Scout Squad long-list entries, midweek minutes and fresh injury updates but this ‘bus team’ article – a term coined by the Always Cheating boys – will discuss the players who are likely to be in the running.

Here it is, then: our early thoughts on the runners and riders up for selection in Gameweek 38, followed by the preliminary picks themselves.

Some of the graphics found in this piece come from our Premium Members Area, where is still a seven-day trial on offer.

After weeks of planing and feeling great about what my GW38 team would look like, all of a sudden I’m stressing over the likelihood of James, Mount, Robbo, James, Kasper playing. And how to hack FPL to allow myself to get Maddi, Son, Barnes and Vardy would taking a hit…

The worry for those starters are more for this midweek, no GW38! From Rodgers' quotes though it may be the case that Ward just missed his opportunity to start the Norwich game that was planned for him and Kasper starts the last two now.

      Prioritise Son!

        That's one interpretation.

The other is Schmeichel plays the more difficult match away at Chelsea this week and Ward gets his second game at home on Sunday.

Try finding out after game updated that your FH that you played was still available-48 points 🙁

Need to play FH after the catastrophic 37 failure!

    Who’s missing, from this lot?

    Pick,
    Myko, Cash, Digne,
    Maddison, Son, Zaha, KDB
    Kane, C Richy, Vardy

    Foster, Gallagher, Anderson, Tsimikas

    105 budget lost 2 mil

      Not exactly but expect rotation.

Robbo cramping up is a great excuse to rest him.

Robbo getting subbed off early in FA cup was one of the reasons why I took a risk and went without him. Even benched Son and Cancelo. 😛

He'll rotate as much as he can to win the game.

I suspect in defence and maybe Mane but with Salah out I doubt it's the wholesale changes people are speculating.

There's a title race still on.

Are hits for Vardy and James in the last week really dumb? Less bothered about OR, more a ML Hail Mary.

Will (c) Vardy if that makes much difference

    1. Rainer
      • 7 Years
      2 years, 6 days ago

I don't think there can ever but just a generic answer for that, or any hit in general.

Who would you be selling for James & Vardy? What subs do you have to play in the sold players places if you kept them?

    2. Hiiler

I myself try to avoid hits in 38. Have quite decent team, but of course it would be better with Chelsea players and more Spurs ones as well. 🙂 Just think that hits might not pay off for one GW only. Risks of not paying off are a lot bigger. Maximum I'm willing to take is one hit, although rightnow Hoping to get by with none.

I know early doors, but which of these moves looks the best for GW38?

    A) Salah + Mateta --> Diaz + Kane (-8)
    B) Salah + Mateta + Broja --> Son + Vardy + 4.4 (-12)
    C) Salah + Kulu + Broja --> Son + Diaz + Toney (-12)

      -12 is madness for GW38

Well if you Salah is unfit and out, dont you think Son and Vardy outscores Mateta by 12 points?

        1. Cheeky Onion
          • 6 Years
          2 years, 6 days ago

Depends if Vardy's minutes get managed on Thursday. What I don't like about those -12's is in B, you're trading one bench player for another and in C you're selling Kulu v Norwich

What's tricky about taking hits on GW38 is only a handful of teams have something to play for so traditionally nailed players might not be on the pitch. And they obviously only have 1 week to make up those points.

Yeah, the thing is most all the teams have something to play for. Liverpool and Spurs especially. Maybe bring in Son and Toney for a -8 is the most reasonable thing

This could be the play. I might be doing Digne and Richarlison/Vardy/Ings > James/Alonso + Toney

The chances of Vardy outscoring Mateta by more than 8 points are not in your favour. So just Salah to Son (-4).

I was referring to B, if you want a Pool attacker then you need to ask yourself is Dias for Kulu who also has a must win game worth a hit ? If Dias starts tomorrow night I'd say no, if not 50/50.

    Good selection.

Keep Bowen under the radar for FH differential.

I know Brighton are okay but if they play a more expansive attacking game v West Ham it could be a humdinger.

Top 3 in my ML get paid out - came into this week with the leaderboard at:

    Rival 1: 2398
    Rival 2: 2355
    Me: 2322

After a great start to the DGW, current standing are:

    Rival 1: 2425
    Rival 2: 2400
    Me: 2392

My main differentials for GW38 are Maddison, Zaha, KDB, Vardy Sessegnon. Original plan was to play for 2nd place, but with a strong finish to this GW I'm liking my chances.

Rival 1 has Son, Rival 2 has Kane. I have Son and considering KDB captain as a dice roll

I picked players based on their FPL legendary status and the fact that they are old enough not to be given a shirt number next season 😛

The likes of Ritchie and J-Rod used to be solid picks in the past, while Foster and Lennon are definitely serviceable at times.

That's why Thiago Silva is not there. Not an FPL legend to me (maybe not yet, who knows)

I am indeed. After 20 years, especially this season, I am exhausted.

            Aha thanks man.

Took a sabbatical one season to recharge my batteries. This time it's for good.

The 5 subs per match kinds nailed it for me 🙂

Think they will change anything in the game because of this rule change?

Maybe, but I doubt so. It's going to be more frustrating for FPL managers, as Roulettes and Tombolas will strike more.

Towers need to keep it interesting though, like extra point if goal is from outside the box 🙂

    Zaha or Bowen?

    Pick two? Maddison, Jota, Mount

Barcelona desperately moved on Coutinho. Frenkie de Jong to United next then?

    Best option:
    a) Salah to KDB
    b) Salah + Mateta to Jota + Vardy -4
    c) Salah + Laporte to KDB + James -4

    Best option;

    A) Coutinho > Dias and play Richarlison

    B) Coutinho, Gordon > Saka, Kulu (-4) and bench Richarlison.

    Cheers.

Gabriel third on my bench as a definite non-starter. Saw the rumours on Twitter earlier that they might start. Hey ho, good for Arsenal, should give them a good chance of taking the competition for fourth spot down to the final week

All the sudden Frenkie De Jong is world class now that he might be joining Manchester Ltd.

We’ve been down this road before. United fans are hilarious.

Doesn’t seem to be on the bench either. I know he’s not been in form but surely illness or injury?

Spurs are only challenging due to refs giving you soft penalties.

We’d have beaten you in Tottenham had you not been given that pathetically weak pen.
