The Community Round Up

With Aaron Ramsey and Wayne Rooney sidelined through injury and suspension last weekend, the community was on the hunt for heavy hitters in attack and midfield. Luckily our community articles, hot topics and members’ tables were packed full of detailed analysis on their replacement options.

The Community Articles

Arvin-ation nailed this week’s top discussion this week; what to do with Ramsey and Rooney, now that both players are set for spells on the sidelines. Here’s his list of the likely replacements owners should be considering. He was back again at the end of the week with another excellent trio of attacking punts ahead of the forthcoming Gameweek.

I decided to turn my hand to community writing and have a look at Fantasy Premier League bonus points among defenders, to discover which players were benefitting this season. Applebonkers, Doosra and Ludo are among those to add some excellent research to the ensuing discussion.

Among our regular scribes, Sticky Mockwell was back with a look at the latest bandwagons and how well they performed in light of heavy previous investment. So far his hypotheses that patience is a virtue remains true.

The start of a new month means we take a look back at the previous few weeks’ articles to find the community’s favourite piece. The overwhelming victor in September’s poll was The Puntmaster with his weekly trio of differentials. So far two out of three of his picks have brought points each week. We strongly urge you to read his recommendations for Gameweek 7.

Another regular writer to do well in the poll was The Sarjeant. He was back again this week with his regular Form Guide ahead of the weekend’s fixtures.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

Hottest Topics

The Rooney and Ramsey injuries also dominated community discussion this week as we looked over the likely replacements. Why is Pardew for Kinnear started the discussion off with this look at the best exit strategy for the pair.

For Ramsey owners, Southampton’s midfield assets have caught the eye for many community members such as The Sarjeant, who started this discussion on the credentials of Dusan Tadic and Sadio Mane to replace the Arsenal man. Ludo, meanwhile, had been looking closer to home for a Ramsey replacement and recommended his team mate Jack Wilshire.

Gylfi Sigurdsson’s poor recent form also came under the spotlight, with some community members considering ditching the Swansea midfielder. However, Triggerlips has been looking into his underlying statistics though and urges patience.

Another tough decision the community faced this week was which champion should represent them in this week’s Scout Picks. With the community champions trailing in fourth behind Paul, Mark and myself, you decided to opt for Greenwindmill’s idea to base his picks on our Rate My Team computer’s decisions. Can a machine prosper where mere mortals have failed?

There was less optimism about the technology behind UEFA’s official Champion League Fantasy game, after further technical glitches left managers frustrated this week. Our man Anorak has been in touch with the game’s developers and called on the community to give their views on where it has gone wrong. He’ll be passing on all your comments to them in a bid to help them improve their game.

Finally, Costra Nostra has been taking a look at one of the golden rules of Fantasy management of never taking a hit for a defender. He urged Fantasy managers to instead think beyond that initial Gameweek and look to the long term when assessing whether the initial four-point hit will subsequently pay off.

The Members Tables

Those eyeing up Southampton’s Tadic as a Ramsey replacement will be pleased to see the midfielder featuring prominently in my top crossers table.

For those looking for Wayne Rooney replacements Erlando’s minutes per chance on goal table is a must read. This has a minimum criteria of 10 shots in the box to ensure only the most potent attackers are featured.

Meanwhile, Gigging Order has been taking an in depth look at the Chelsea midfield to assess the best option from its midfield in terms of goal attempts.

Following my community article on FPL bonus points among defenders, Doosra has updated his Bonus Burglars table to pinpoint defenders who perform well in the key Bonus Point System (BPS) areas of clearances, blocks and interceptions (CBI), tackles and passing.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

The Tinkerman has shot to the top of the Fantasy Football Scout moderators and contributors league in FPL, closely followed by Paul, who tops the moderators and contributors league in the Ultimate Fantasy Premier League game.

The Puffinboy Memorial Cup league, dedicated to one of our first posters, continues to be led by Rasping Drive, who with an overall rank of 636th also has number one status in the FFS Old Farts Club and FFS Dead Zone leagues.

AZ’s Early Bird Cup reaches the final this weekend when DT42, who defeated AZ in last week’s semi-final, will take on Dusan Citizen, who dispatched Costa- The Chosen One.

Finally, India and New Zealand are the teams to beat in the FFS UEFA Hockey World Cup team competition. They are the current group leaders going into this weekend’s matches.

    Best option here fellas?

    A) GW7: Ramsey & Rooney -> Chadli & Aguero
    GW8: Terry -> Baines (0.3m cash leftover)

    B) GW7: Ramsey & Rooney -> Tadic & Sturridge
    GW8: Terry -> Baines (no cash ledtover)

    C) GW7: Ramsey & Rooney -> Tadic & Welbeck
    GW8: Hutton -> Baines (1.7m cash leftover)

      A I think. But I'd be slightly wary planning so far ahead (in terms of real time, not GWs). With an international break on-top of all the usual, injuries etc. could mess up plans.

    Forster
    Bardsley - Naylor - Moore
    Di Maria - Fabregas - Sterling - Sigurdsson
    Costa - Aguero - Pelle

    McCarthy - Clyne - Boyd - Duff.

    Just the captain to decide now 😉

        I own him but I'm currently not. Costa is perhaps the safer approach, but I have both Aguero and Silva. I figure if Costa scores well, I get good points, if City score well I'll get good points through owning two of them.

      Looks like a recent WC team to me? I like it.

      I'd go with Costa myself, as per my reasoning above (although obviously not having two City does lessen that slightly). I reckon Aguero 'could' be enough of a differential on his own, captaining Costa is probably safer overall.

                Old team aside, Arsenal have been probably proven themselves in recent seasons to be worse against the bigger teams (especially away) than the likes of Stoke, Sunderland, Swansea etc. And if Costa scores (big strong striker against Arsenal - Drogba used to ruin them) then there's every chance Fabregas will be providing the assist.

          The week Costa scored a brace everyone had 2FT and transfered him by fear of wasting one. It can often backfire. Moreno will be a problem but he's a good option for this week alone. Maybe Duff to Moore?

          I guess all play differently. My min aim is to win my mates mini league which i am leading. I have both Costa and Aguero. I will captain Costa as i guess most in the league will do that and none have Aguero so if he scores i get his 'unique' points over them.

            good reasoning and really the only thing that motivates me...i feel i can take the risk and shoot up in my ML. currently 3rd but only 20 pts back. even if it is a fail, i can still make up the ground.

              Good luck with it. It is fun to take a few risks and this game should be fun sometimes, not just a stress, not so serious. With all that said, 20 points behind in a mini league is nothing this far into the season. Good luck either way. If i had Ulloa, now thats the punt i would captain if chasing a lead

      Great looking defenders. When I was in my WC last week, the debate was Pelle Fabs Ivan vs Aguero Tadic Wisdom. I chose the latter but your team looks good.

      Having baines & ivan in same team would be so much fun... But i just couldn't do it! Courtois i think will get very similar points to ivan & is only 6.0... So you could rearrange fabianski & iven > ntaylor & courtois & that's a full 1.8 extra. Wouldnt treble up on SOT even though they look brilliant at the minute so would try to use 1.8m to upgrade one of tadic or pelle to a utd attacker or lukaku... But to be fair, all of the above mighnt actually improve your team at all as it looks gr8.

        Thanks a lot for your detailed advice! 🙂

        I prefer Ivan over Courtois because of his attacking threat and I think paying the premium might be worth it. Fabianski/Bego rotate very well till the end of the season. I've thought about not tripling up on Soton, but their form is great these days and with some good fixtures to follow, I think they'll do well!

        To be fair they have played three fairly decent defenses in those three weeks, away at Chelsea and Sunderland, home to Soton. I think the best chance Siggy has is at home to a very poor newcastle team. Also, if he fails as captain I have full leverage to punt him next week haha.

              To end your misery - just captain Costa. It is a bit early for a differential captain. If he blanks, everybody fails. If he scores, everybody gets it right. You lose nothing. Don't twist your head so much in this.

      I picked Ulloa as my Rooney replacement. Have money saved for Kun, Sturridge or Falcao after the international break. Ulloa will be my placeholder until I find the right premium forward. Sakho and Valencia are similar, imo. Good fixtures, form and cheap.

    When people are calling Costa the "safe" captain pick, is that referring to his ownership and the likelihood he will be most captained and therefore your rank will be less impacted by a captaincy failure, or is it the belief he is more likely to get attacking returns than Aguero?

      Costa and Aguero have practically the exact same prospects for this GW, should even play the same amount of time (unless Chelsea need a goal in which case Costa probably hasn't earned points yet)
      It's pot luck which one scores better but personally i'm going for Aguero because of less ownership.

      Costa's owenership makes him the safe one for me. I do also think he's ideally suited to inflicting pain on Arsenal. - I reserve the right to be completely wrong!

      If this was week 30 and everything else was the same I'd go for Aguero for the potential upside, but there's no point in gambling away ground at this early stage, it's a long season.

      Hard to predict but a clean sheet for Swansea and a low for score for Baines this week would sure help you. FISO has taylor closer to a rise than baines but price changes all over the place
