The Community Round Up

As the season template starts to break up, our hot topic posters were full of useful advice on the players to wave goodbye to and those we should welcome into our 2016 squads. Our Members tables add further evidence of why we may be best to show some once-prized assets the door. Amongst our community writers, disciplinary issues took centre stage as the effect of referee selection on our points tallies was examined. We finish the round up with a look at our community leagues, where bragging rights have been claimed by those already reacting to emerging form.

The Community Articles

With a brace and an assist in Gameweek 22 it’s no wonder that around 130,000 Fantasy Premier League managers have drafted in Sergio Aguero during the week. The FPL veterans being tracked by Kavali were already ahead of the curve, as his latest update on their mission to climb the rankings revealed. In contrast, 53,000 Fantasy managers have ditched Aguero’s team-mate Kevin de Bruyne this week. However, members are advised to read Jaffalicious‘ latest community article on his toils on the road before pressing the transfer button.

The Sarjeant’s look at team form head of Gameweek 23 adds further evidence to the attacking prowess of Manchester City in recent weeks. Another to look at form is Rakkhi, who has been investigating how underlying statistics, such as shots on target, stack up against simply looking to see who has scored the most goals in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, Bowstring the Carp thinks Fantasy managers ought to be paying closer attention to who is refereeing matches. He outlines the men in black most likely to award penalties and has kindly cross-referenced them against the error-prone teams that have conceded the most spot-kicks.

Bolivian Seaman has also been looking ahead to Gameweek 23 with his regular look at what the fans’ forums are saying about the fixtures.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

The upturn in form of premium strikers such as Aguero has coincided with a slump in the fortunes of this season’s once-reliable budget options. Amongst the biggest let downs in 2016 so far has been Watford’s assets.

The Hertfordshire side have failed to register a clean sheet in the last four Gameweeks, while conceding seven times and scoring just twice. Hornet’s fan Applebonkers dropped by to give this terrace eye view on their New Year malaise.

Leicester attackers have also been a let down, as our latest Rough with the Smooth round up of your Gameweek 22 decisions, showed. This is particularly the case for the many Fantasy managers with Riyad Mahrez in their team, who in Every Dog Has It’s Day’s hot topic aired their views on the midfielder being stripped of spot kicks after another miss.

For those looking to offload their Watford and Leicester assets, Red Devil started a discussion on the players that could be set to have a far better second half of the season, with Leighton Baines, David Silva and Alexis Sanchez amongst those mentioned.

Charlie Daniels, Bournemouth’s penalty taking, budget defender has started 2016 in style, with a goal, assist and two clean sheets already this month. Balders is another to focus on referee selection and believes that the appointment of whistler Roger East for the Cherries’ Gameweek 23 encounter with Sunderland could see more points come Daniels’ way.

Is investment in budget players to shoe-horn Aguero into our squads the best use of our budgets, though? This was the question posed by Mark on this week’s Scoutcast as he revealed he is going to attempt to resist the allure of the Manchester City striker this season. The Aguero-ed and the Aguero-less alike put forward their cases in our follow up discussion on the issue.

There was still a degree of New Year handwringing going on this week as many in the community sought to investigate why they are experiencing one of their worst FPL campaigns on record. As Pazx888’s hot topic on this season’s biggest mistakes shows poor captaincy decisions in particular have proved costly.

For those with bench boost and triple captaincy chips intact, the double Gameweeks, caused by Cup congestion, can’t come soon enough. Jarvish urges patience with transfers until we know more about the first potential set of double fixtures caused by the Capital One Cup final later next month.

The Members Tables

While Applebonkers offered his terrace eye view on Watford’s slump in form, Jaffalicious has been consulting the statistics to find out more about their problems. His tables are not pretty viewing for those still with the likes of Ighalo in their teams.

Everton’s assets could provide a great alternative as they entertain Swansea then Newcastle in two enticing home fixtures this month. Here’s my table on the best Toffees players to consider drafting in.

Finally, Balders has been busy updating his tables for those looking to tear up the first half of the season template. This includes his look at the most attacking defendersmonsters of the midfield and hot-shot strikers.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

The qualifying stages of the Fiffsa 5-a-side tournament finished last week, according to Diva’s latest update, which also previews the forthcoming finals.

Congratulations to Jawain, MrFlibbles and Hooky, who have all secured quarter-final berths in Balders’ Grand Playoffs tournament.

Another with a spring in his step is James Ollerenshaw, who has doubled his lead in Red Lightning’s Top 10k Any Season mini-league and is now up to 139th overall as well as topping the FFSscout Members League.

Meanwhile, Sam Isaacs is the new leader of Red Lightning’s January to May League

In the FFScout moderators and contributors league Greenwindmill, with a little help from his captaincy of Aguero, has leapfrogged Evs to take the role of second fiddle to league leader Andy.

Jjbish01 continues to top our ESPN league while in the race to win £1,000 in Ultimate Fantasy Premier League’s latest monthly competition JohnBhoys leads The FFS £1K Heist league.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

    Evening, fellas.

I'm on my WC this week, any suggestions would be welcome.

    ~Wildcard suggestions?~

    Cech
    Dier Daniels Darmian
    Mirallas Ozil Payet Wijnaldum
    Kun Lukaku Kane

    Butland Mertesacker Targett Alli

    0.1 ITB

Plan is for Cech & Ozil ---> Hennessey & Sanchez next week (if Sanchez does well).

    Any possible additional Wildcard changes?

    Thanks in advance!

I would play A. Southampton's last 2 games were both home fixtures - this is at Anfield. Playing Butland vs Leicester at home - and with a point to prove - would be very risky indeed.

Been dealing with the loss of a close friend this week and haven't had time for FPL. Does this look ok? Unsure about Wollscheid vs Simpson and Mahrez vs Alli.

    Gomes
    Smith, Toby, Wollscheid
    Mahrez, Payet, Ozil, KDB
    Kane, Aguero (C), Lukaku (VC)

    Hennessey, Alli, Simpson, Souare

@Oghash, I'm not sure if you'll laugh or despair at this but PP's book for today's stage of the Tour Down Under (World Tour Cycling) is 198%

    1. Mull
      • 12 Years
      8 years, 3 months ago

      What does 'book' mean?

        • 10 Years
        8 years, 3 months ago

Sum of the percentage odds after translating bookies odds into %age probabilities. However much over 100% the book is, is effectively how much bookies are skimming from the market. In this case they're only paying out £100 on every £198 taken.

An average football market is usually ~106% to 110% while shopping around for odds you can often get down to ~102/103% So in those cases paying out £100 on £102/3 taken.

        1. oghash
          • 8 Years
          8 years, 3 months ago

An average football market should be less than that nowadays Balders. It's been about 14 months since I was last involved in that type of thing since I started this new job but we'd always aim for about 103 to 105 for a premiership game. Less if we was trying to be the standout on oddschecker

            • 10 Years
            8 years, 3 months ago

fair point on PL games, PP rides ~105% though their football outrights do sit higher.

yeah, they would be higher for the outright. If I wasn't restricted with most and hadn't given it up, for the large part, it'd proper annoy me when putting bets on. I think in this instance ignorance is bliss. The unwashed masses who are unaware so it doesn't bother them.

      Seriously? 198%

My god. Obviously they're not trying to get any business from that whatsoever. So shocking, what's it with a decent bookie?

        • 10 Years
        8 years, 3 months ago

Seriously Bet365 is at 196% lol. Betting on the overall Giro D'Italia is at 173% and TdF is at 159% currently. Shopping around on a big race and you can get it down to 110-115% closer to the time but it ain't great on the smaller world tour races.

Fantasy Cycling is where its at though for cycling fans, I won a shed load of stash last year playing road.cc's games but now I'm on a tangent...

            Nope!

£57 is the max on the favourite at 7/2.
            £34 on 3rd favourites at 6/1
            £18.86 on outsiders (beyond 20/1)

OK lads, nobody's responded to this question all day & I'd love a second opinion.

Just wildcarded to get aguero in / cut a bunch of deadwood for my paid H2H. I came up with:

    Lloris
    Darmian Evans Simpson
    Mahrez Ozil Payet Silva
    Aguero Lukaku Kane

    Rudd Ward Targett Alli

(w/ a whopping 0.1 ITB) Lloris/Mahrez/Ward -> Hart/Zaha/Dier is one idea that sounds crazy but might work.

    Would you change anything?

REALLY wanted to take a punt on Hendo this GW, so need to play him really, just a good feeling. Right to bench Ozil? Captain choice sound?

Any comments would be of great help, cheers 🙂

not particularly no, just guessed he may rack up more save points than Rudd as i also expect Liverpool to score.

Tricky one. I have Stan so he's my easy bench choice.
          Hope Ozil burns you 😛

Benched Ozil myself. Would have considered Simpson over Kos, cant see Arsenal get an CS here.

Which one of these to bench?

    Bellerin (Home v. Chelsea)
    Nyom (Home v. Newcastle)
    Evans (Home v. Aston Villa)
    Simpson (Home v. Stoke)

I already have Williams on the bench (away at Everton)

Chelsea could be solid at the back. Arsenal might calf. Hard to predict.

Aren't Chelsea still fairly predictably terrible at the back? Unless there is another ludicrous refereeing performance I see Arsenal winning this comfortably.

Arsenal have scored 1 goal in this fixture for the last 4 seasons.
Mourinho wasn't there for all of them.

Yeah but Chelsea weren't battling relegation in those seasons. I think I will yolo the captaincy on Mesut, he's had a rest as well.

One way they can deal with Ozil, let him know they're there.See how he'll react with little time or space and a few late tackles.

They're unpredictable at the back. A few CS mixed with schoolgirl defending. Costa approaching form will rattle the Gunners defence.

Down to Lukaku or Aguero as captain.
Once I sort that, no FPL until next week 🙂

Deja vu all over again. I struggled last week between Kane and Aguero. I picked Kane. Still did okay, but not as good as I could have. This week, I think I will go with Aguero.

Of course, in a few hours, I could easily change my mind.

I went with Aguero in the end. If it's too close to call, might as well be brave and go for they guy with the biggest upside.

Wonder if there have been many hits to bring Kun in.
If you're not selling Lukaku or Kane, then the chances are higher that you'd have taken a hit.

will i lose out on ozils point by brinign sanchez in? cant get both unless i sacrifice KDB
