The Community Round Up

The fall out from last weekend’s FA Cup matches dominated discussions as our hot topic posters began planning in earnest for blank fixtures and impending double Gameweeks. Watford’s malaise also comes under scrutiny, while our community scribes get to grips with team form and fans’ views ahead of this weekend’s matches. Aerial heroes and on-pitch villains are the focus of our latest Members tables and we also find out who the best crystal ball gazers are in our community tournaments round up.

The Community Articles

With a break from the Premier League over the previous weekend, Kavali took the opportunity to look in more detail at the Fantasy Premier League careers of the 34 veterans he is tracking this season. While their pedigree is not in question, his analysis shows that experience has counted for little in this most unpredictable of campaigns, in which Leicester are the surprising frontrunners to claim the Premier League trophy.

As The Sarjeant’s latest colour coded form guide shows, Leicester’s dominance of this year’s Fantasy season is no fluke as they look to cement their lead further when Norwich visit in Gameweek 27. There was more advice for this weekend’s best assets from the fans themselves, thanks to Bolivian Seaman‘s research.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Amongst the most surprising FA Cup results last weekend was Crystal Palace’s victory over Tottenham. While this was bad news for Spurs fans, it was a cause for celebration amongst Fantasy managers as the North London side escape a blank Gameweek 30 and make planning far easier for that weekend, when FA Cup quarter finals take place.

As our discussion on Gameweek 30 planning shows, the ability to now field popular picks such as Harry Kane that week have given the community the chance to make a luxury move or two.

Renewed confidence in being able to field a strong team in Gameweek 30 has also started to shape our planning for Gameweek 27, when the Capital One Cup final means Manchester City, Everton, Liverpool and Newcastle all miss a fixture.

However, for those looking to load up on Spurs assets immediately, Mousa Dembele’s absence through injury over the next two weeks may curtail their points potential, according to my latest research.

Faster return on investment is predicted for Leicester’s assets in Gameweek 27, when the Foxes take on Premier League whipping boys Norwich. Ktk_interista weighed up the merits of captaining one of their two key players, Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy, for this plum tie.

With every blank comes a double Gameweek and based on UEFA scheduling, Gameweek 34 and 37 look the the likeliest times to schedule more matches. Balders dropped by to offer some great advice around wildcarding and getting the most out of FPL chips over this period. Licious Lizard also offered some key tips on double Gameweek planning and even Manchester City’s misfiring midfielders are attracting interest for their impending double fixture.

Although they haven’t quite reached the dizzy heights set by Leicester, Watford have impressed this season and look to have already secured their Premier League status despite a recent dip in form. Hornets’ fan Applebonkers took a look at why his side’s performance have been so poor in recent weeks and believes that the recent hectic fixture schedule, that has included cup games, may be a key factor.

The Members Tables

Two of our newest members, Eden Hazardous and Pochecinno, have already got to grips with the statistics on offer by constructing some useful tables. Eden Hazardous’ Bloopers table looks at this season’s biggest under performers, while Pochecinno has being looking at the teams with the biggest aerial threat.

Elsewhere, Doosra has been assessing some big-name stars that are falling foul of FPL’s Bonus Point System and Andrewlimkh’s focus is on the best and worst goalkeepers in recent weeks.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

With a lack of Premier League action last weekend, Jarvish’s popular FA Cup Yes/No competition took centre stage amongst our community competitions. The latest soothsayer-in-chief in this predictions contest proved to be Greenwindmill, followed by Costa.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Team at the moment for GW27 (BANK = £4.3m, 2 FTs):

    Butland
    Daniels Rangel Azpi XXXX
    Sanchez Mahrez Payet Alli (Westwood)
    Vardy Kane XXXX

subs - Hennessey, Moreno, Sagna, Aguero

Assuming most are benching Aguero this week and playing 442 or 352? I can't bear to start Westwood and have a transfer to burn so.... best route to take this week?

    a) Sagna > Huth/Fuchs
    b) Westwood > Arnautovic
    c) Aguero > Costa
    d) Summat else?
    e) Start Westwood and burn a transfer... like a boss

Put Westwood out of his misery. You need a strong 15 to navigate the blanks and doubles

I quite like the look of this. Also gives me a good opportunity to use the AOA chip next week:

        Sanchez(SWA) Mahrez(WBA) Payet(TOT) Alli(whu) Arnautovic(NEW)

Those are some nice fixtures and my defence isn't up to much next week. Might be perfect timing 🙂

wouldn't get Costa as he has a blank in 30

Sagna to Fuchs is a good move

Westwood to Arnie is also nice or you could get Siggy in early for his good run coming up. only issue with Westwood to Arnie is it gives you a benching headache next week

As above, might be a nice opportunity to roll out the AOA chip. My defence have pretty ropey fixtures next week. What ya reckon? A seems like the safer move

Thoughts on a punt of Walters over Arnie
Would be for a -4 (gosling) and mean playing them over Ward or Cedric

    Forster
Dier - Koscielny - Cedric - Huth (ward)
Mahrez - Payet - Ozil - Alli (Gosling)

    Or
    -4
    Forster
    Dier - Koscielny - Huth ( Ward - Cedric)
    Mahrez - Payet - Ozil - Alli - Walters/Arnie

Now that you ask that, no. I think a hit to get in a good attacker instead of Cedric is OK, but I would want to be confident, and I'm not confident about Stoke. It could work, and really there is nobody else I would be sure of. I think it's a gut thing.

Mahrez has created 10 chances, had 18 shots, and touched the ball in the box 24 times in the last 10 weeks. And passed at a 70% accuracy rate.

He could explode, he's that kind of player, but I think owning is enough for me.

Could be a good week to bury bad hits...

"Nice" to see another old timer lingering in and around the 6-figure-rank club. I've only recently dipped back into 5 figures.

Why am I tempted by Matt Ritchie? Anyone who has seen a lot of him want to disabuse me of this notion?

I was going to get Eriksen in for Firmino but left it too long and can't afford it now.

It's him, Arnie, Shaqiri, or... what is obviously the safe and sensible option, Alli. Whoever I pick must play (and ideally have good fixtures) this week and GW30.

(Note: I have ground to make up and Alli won't do that... although he could obviously stop the gap from growing.)

I did think that r.e. Watford, however in the last 2 weeks they sit 4th for shots conceded in the box (2nd over the last 4) and 2nd for shot conceded out of the box.

I've not seen much of Bournemouth though, so if they're looking blunt....

    A) Moreno, Lukaku -> Fuchs, Vardy
    OR
    B) Moreno, Stanislas, Lukaku -> Wimmer, Arnie, Vardy (For a hit)

    If B, who to bench
    C)Dawson
    D)Bellerin
    E)VVD

    The decisions...

3.3M ITB, 0FT. Anything worth taking a hit over? Could get Alli, Eriksen, Arnautovic, Bertrand, etc.
Not sure about Alli or Arnautovic because of their limited minutes lately.

Which 2 need to be gotten rid of first? Firmino, Tomkins, Ighalo?

    Butland
    Alderweireld | Azpilicueta | Ward | Tomkins
    Özil | Payet (c) | Mahrez (vc) | Alli
    Kane | Ighalo

    Hennessey | Firmino | Aguero | Simpson [2 FT + 0.5m ITB]

I was thinking: Firmino + Ighalo --> Arnautovic + Vardy?

    Hennessey
    Cresswell - Dier - Wollscheid
    Alexis - Ozil - Mahrez - Payet - Alli
    Kane - Vardy(c)

subs: Daniels (if Kane don't make it)
