The Community Round Up

With two benchings and a missed penalty in Manchester City’s last pair of fixtures, some Fantasy managers are considering the unthinkable when it comes to Sergio Aguero’s place in their squads.

Our hot topics reveal just how low the Manchester City striker’s stock has plummeted as other players, particularly those among Arsenal’s ranks, start to look more reliable picks.

Our community articles examine Bournemouth’s latest moneyball prospect and there are further midfield gems being unearthed in our Members table round up.

Finally, we see who is going into Gameweek 9 on a high with a look at the latest leaders in our community leagues.

The Community Articles

Junior Stanislas’ strong recent form, of 36 Fantasy Premier League points over his last three games, has prompted Spreadsheet to delve deep into his statistics. His research offers an invaluable insight as to whether he will be a flash in the pan or the real deal.

Despite his strong recent form Bournemouth supporters are not optimistic their side will do well when Spurs visit this weekend, according to Bolivian Seaman‘s latest What the Fans Are Saying article.

For those looking for better Gameweek 9 prospects YMA has been down to the bookies for inspiration for where to place the armband. There was further analysis of captaincy options when Spreadsheet dropped by later in the week to check up on how the Magnificent Seven Theory is helping pick the best player for double points.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

This week’s most transferred in player, Theo Walcott, has already seen his price rise twice since a Gameweek 8 brace. Given his stellar form we asked for your thoughts on whether the winger offers enough Arsenal coverage on his own or should be paired up with team-mate, Alexis Sanchez.

Walcott’s exceptional form is tempting some to swerve Sanchez and instead consider Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne as their premium-priced midfielder. During the week ESpanYOLO weighed up the pros and cons of investing in either the Chilean or Belgian stars.

At the other end of the price spectrum sits Joe Allen, who has made a mockery of his 4.9 price tag with 35 FPL points in his last three league outings. Given this recent run, it is not surprising to see the Stoke City midfielder take his place behind Walcott as the week’s second most popular transfer.

But many in the community are urging caution.

Internal error pondered whether he’ll end up like Etienne Capoue, who is failing to sustain early-season goal scoring feats from a central midfield berth.

Those swapping out Capoue for the Stoke man who are expecting a far better Fantasy prospect will be mistaken, declared Gangdu Laowai earlier this week. Parm is another to pour scorn on the viability of Allen as a long term Fantasy asset, with this excellent analysis on his prospects.

Among those drafting in Allen are Fantasy managers opting for a 3-5-2 formation to accommodate the array of midfield talent on offer this season. Albrightondknight believes that, so far, this strategy is trumping the more popular 3-4-3 formation.

Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson and Southampton’s Charlie Austin are certainly putting forward a good counter argument to those opting for 3-5-2. The forward pair have four goals between them over the last two Gameweeks, making them ideal third striker options. Bob dropped by midweek to assess which of these cheap forwards we should be considering.

In Gameweek 8 both Austin and Wilson outscored popular captaincy pick Sergio Aguero by some distance. Given he has failed to score in three of his six and has been benched in both of Manchester City’s last matches, we asked whether it was time to cut back on the times we hand him the armband.

Ruth_NZ added further rain to the Aguero parade with his look back at Pep Guardiola’s rocky relationships with strikers over the years.

Could Aguero soon join the likes of Zlatan Ibrahomovic and head for the exit door as a Fantasy asset? We took a look at how your teams would line up if you decided to sever ties with the Manchester City forward.

Our Rough with the Smooth round up of your Gameweek 8 highs and lows showed just how many were let down by the Argentine, with his penalty miss costing those that captained him dearly.

For some, a rough Gameweek or season can end in even more humiliation, with Fantasy leagues starting to add tough penalties for those holding the wooden spoon. In our discussion on forfeits Krul Runnings revealed the extravagant lengths his league has gone to so that last place comes with a hefty price to pay.

The Members Tables

With £10 free credit with FanDuel to those entering our latest Cup competition, I’ve created this handy table looking at the players who excel in this daily and weekly Fantasy format.

Joe Allen’s recent goal scoring feats have led Baines on Toast to construct a table specifically looking for similar midfielders, who are able to combine defensive responsibilities with attacking threat.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Jarvish dropped by to bring us news of a tasty new competition for the community to take part in.

In Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season mini-league Sahil Sud retains the lead and sits 355th in the overall rankings.

Another to stay top is Facer, who has a 27-point lead over Applebonkers at the summit of the FFScout Moderators and Contributors League.

Finally, Jaffalicious posted this update on the current leaders in the FFS UEFA Champions League contest.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

I have Bolasie and Sterling, plus 2,3 itb. Tempted to change one of them to Son or Walcott for a hit. Worth it? Already have Sanchez too

So here's the conundrum folks...opinions would be appreciated. Already done (for free):

    Sterling/Capoue > Walcott and Allen.

Do I play 3-5-2 with this lot?

    Pickford
    Amat - Lovren - Koscielny
    Alexis - Firmino - Walcott - Antonio - Allen
    Kun - Lukaku

    Jak - Holebas - Rashford - Evans

Or do I take a -4 and do?

Rashford > Wilson/Deeney/Defoe or another for a week or 2.

Taking the -4 would mean playing AoA and dropping Amat to the bench or benching one of Antonio or Allen.

Good transfers if you done early in week. Both ins set to complete the double rise tonight and both outs could fall tonight. .6 swing in TV. Just play Allen. Sort Rashford next week.

          A) Allen + Mustafi
          B) Fletcher + Bellerin

WC active and I'd like to build team value by including Allen for a few weeks and selling after price rises. I only started in GW4 so my team value is worse than most (100.7 TV, 0.3 itb) and this looks like an easy way to improve it. But by immediately downgrading to a 4.4 fifth mid, I can get Bellerin instead of Mustafi. Bellerin about to rise to 6.6, Allen about to rise to 5.0. What should I do?!

Not keen on losing the Pool mids given their fixtures, Sanchez requires a WC, so leaning heavily toward the hit below (Costa against bus and cash in Capoue). Would likely bench Wilson this week (in favor of Redmond) but quite like his following 2 fixtures.

          Grant
          Valencia Stones Vertonghen
          Firmino Mane Redmond Son
          Costa Aguero Lukaku

          (Foster, Capoue Friend Smith)
          1FT 0ITB

          A) Mane ➡ Walcott
          B) Firmino ➡ Walcott
          C) Capoue & Costa ➡ Walcott & Wilson -4
          ?

The fact that you have cash tied up in Capoue is a positive.
Sell him tonight if it maximises profit.
None of those moves look good, imo.
            Don't sell a LFC mid.
I would do Capoe _> 4.4 assuming you got him at 4.5 or 4,7 and play that team.. it's a good team

Sometimes that is exactly when you should be saving the transfer though.

Yeah, looks like the best thing to do this week. A kneejerk hit and it's a red arrow again.

Would keep Antonio and be tempted to sell Benteke. Leicester at home are rock solid. Would probably keep too though on the grounds that Wilson and Austin, the two most natural replacements, don't look like scoring this gw either.

That's exactly what I am thinking. I'm even putting Benteke over Austin/Wilson this week. Yes Leicester are solid at home, but they aren't able to deal with set pieces and Palace are built around Benteke. Interesting match this.

I'm a saving a transfer for what I think will be the first time in my 5th year of playing FPL. Can't quite believe it.

2FT wow. I don't see many of those either. Trying to be more disciplined this year but still will have 3 hits by GW 10.

I don't even know what it looks like on the FPL page lol. Yeah I've taken my hits already. First 8-10 weeks is the time to take them from experience. After that, it's best to just go steady.

Or -4 Negredo to Austin? and play both while benching Capoue

Night all. Off to the cinema in the morning with the my 3 kids to see the BFG (I heard it's rubbish) but the Saturday morning kids club costs €2 per child rather than going in the afternoon when it would cost a gazillion quid to see the latest release.

Best of luck for GW9 🙂

I have an absurd desire to swap Sterling for Firmino for a hit. Please someone talk me out of it.

I've convinced myself that Firmino will get double figures whilst Sterling will get one point off the bench (Sane and Nolito to start)

Yeah Coutinho looks the best in the games I've seen. I've already got him, along with Sanchez and Walcott. Liverpool's fixtures are sublime and Aguero gives me City cover....

I wouldn't make the trade in either direction, better to save the FT and better yet to not take a hit. Both Sterling and Firmino will perform in the coming weeks

Yeah, my head says that and Sterling looked good in the Nou Camp. I just think Firm will outscore him long term and I fear a Sterling rest.

Hey does anyone know if FPL are going to give us scores for the quarter after this gameweek? In your mini leagues it used to be a 'phase', much like October or Overall that you could filter for.

I use it as a mini league milestone but if FPL aren't going to calculate for me I'll have to start doing it manually for each quarter after this one.

Don't think there are Quarters anymore. All you need to do is start the league in GW10.

Yeah its an overall league, just with quarterly prizes. It's a good idea though, could just have that running in parallel.

                    Which three defenders to play:

                    A) Bellerin (MID)
                    B) Lovren (wba)
                    C) Holebas (swa)
                    D) Cameron (hul)
                    E) Amat (WAT)

I'm leaning towards ABD, I know Holebas offers good attacking returns but I feel Lovren and Cameron have a better chance at a clean sheet

                      A, D, C, B, E in that order.

You could argue Lovren over Holebas, but don't see Pool keeping a cleanie.

Cameron sometimes OOP and more chances, but Pieters more nailed?

Exactly. Make your decision based on that

Cameron OOP since he started GW3 and defence back up. Most SoT of all defenders last 3 weeks although not great shots apparently

I don't see Cameron Pieters more nailed than either. They both first team players

Cameron - Whelan partnership looks strong for Stoke, can't see the manager changing it for the time being.
Hence OOP prospects, if not he can fill in at CB or RB.
Johnson is out injured for 3-4 weeks.

I've been known to knock Cameron for not being the most inspiring footballer, but the lad sure can cover different positions.

And he seems like he's improved over the last few years. I'd go with him.

Pieters is more attacking though. Doesn't matter if Cameroon is OOP or not. Pieters almost had a goal against Sunderland.

The stats point towards Cameron, but you wouldn't know that.

                      A) Ibra to Austin
                      B) Antonio to Lallana
                      C) A + Antonio to Sanchez (c) for - 4

Leaning towards B. Have Aguero or Wally captain.

                      Thanks!

Good number of risers/fallers, it's looking like in a couple minutes here.

Probably been asked a bunch of times but play Foster(LIV) or Pickford(WHU)???

                        Foster should get more saves?

Wham the most likely to blank of either team though I think neither will keep CS so Pickford just on %s
