The Weekend Team News

Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana undergo scans ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Southampton. Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin is ruled out for four weeks with an ankle complaint, whilst Palace number one Steve Mandanda is sidelined due to a back problem as Man City roll up to Selhurst Park.

Philippe Coutinho is reported to have undergone scans on a tight hamstring ahead of Liverpool’s trip to St Mary’s. The Brazilian arrived late back from international duties on Wednesday and did not train with his team-mates yesterday as he was sent for an assessment. Adam Lallana is set for scans on the knock that forced him off in England’s clash with Spain in midweek, though has not been ruled out of contention to face his former club Southampton.

Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin has been ruled out for four weeks with an ankle injury sustained in the Gameweek 11 derby clash with Spurs. Santi Cazorla remains sidelined and has yet to return to training from an Achilles complaint, whilst Arsene Wenger has revealed that Alexis Sanchez texted him after Chile’s win over Uruguay to confirm he is in good shape. Sanchez landed back in Britain yesterday afternoon following a long-haul flight, with Wenger set to assess him later today.

Nacer Chadli remains a doubt for West Brom’s home match with Burnley after undergoing minor knee surgery prior to the international break. Salomon Rondon has recovered from a hamstring problem, whilst James McClean is expected to be fit after being subbed off with a recurrence of his back problem in midweek.

Toby Alderweireld, Ben Davies and Erik Lamela remain sidelined for Spurs’ home clash with West Ham. Dele Alli will require a late assessment on the knee problem that kept him out of the north London derby, though Hugo Lloris, Mousa Dembele, Christian Eriksen and Vincent Janssen have recovered from problems picked up over the break.Mauricio Pochettino has suggested Danny Rose “is a little bit tired” after starting both of England’s recent internationals.

Winston Reid and James Collins are back in training and expected to be available for West Ham’s trip to Tottenham. Diafra Sakho has stepped up his recovery from a back injury, though Mark Noble sits this one out through suspension.

Leighton Baines and James McCarthy have recovered from injury as Everton entertain Swansea. Idrissa Gueye is available after serving a one-match ban, though Gareth Barry is sidelined with a similar suspension.

Claude Puel is optimistic on the fitness of Fraser Forster, Ryan Bertrand, Dusan Tadic and Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg for Southampton’s clash with Liverpool. The Saints boss welcomes back Cedric Soares, though remains without Shane Long and Matt Targett.

Danny Drinkwater is rated “50-50” with the rib injury that forced him to withdraw from England duties. Demarai Gray is doubtful due to a calf complaint sustained over the break for England U21s, though Nampalys Mendy remains on the sidelines after suffering a setback on his recovery from an ankle problem.

Nathan Dyer is back in the Swansea squad after recovering from an ankle injury. Bob Bradley has admitted Jefferson Montero remains a doubt due to a hand injury.

Palace keeper Steve Mandanda has been ruled out of the home clash against City due to a back problem. Joe Ledley is doubtful, though Alan Pardew expects Lee Chung-Yong to recover from “a slight knock”.

Middlesbrough’s George Friend is a minor doubt for Sunday’s clash with Chelsea after picking up a knock in training.

Sebastian Prodl is back in contention for Watford’s clash with Leicester. Heurelho Gomes “should be okay”, whilst Walter Mazzarri is also optimistic on the fitness of Stefano Okaka. Craig Cathcart, Isaac Success and Christian Kabasele are all ruled out.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe will make a “a late call” on the availability of Callum Wilson and Andrew Surman, with both making “good progress” from hamstring injuries. Adam Smith serves a one-match suspension for the Cherries’ clash with Stoke.

Jack Butland is back in training but still not ready to return for Stoke’s clash with Bournemouth. Glenn Whelan is doubtful with a hamstring injury, whilst Geoff Cameron is still sidelined with an ongoing knee problem. Xherdan Shaqiri (hamstring) is back in contention, as is Marko Arnautovic, who has served a one-match ban.

Stephen Ward is back in training following a hamstring problem and “has a chance” of returning in time for Burnley’s trip to West Brom on Monday night.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from Friday’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

I would like to know! Well not that specifically, but I want to know if Walcott is playing this weekend.

My last WC choice is either Walcott and Coutinho, or Sanchez and Allen.

I was advised Walcoutinho (good huh?) was the way to go, but now both are 50-50 for the weekend.

just do theo phillipe and make sure you have good bench options both will either start or not come on at all but getting good bench options on a wildcard is easy you could have anichebe come off the bench if you plannong 352

Only bench player that wouldn't be available is Holebas.
Kingsley, and De Roon would be the ones to come in.

hmmm that is tragic haha , maybe just go for it anyway cos they both should be back next week at the worst , that option does seem far superior to alexis and allen imo

    Two quick questions:

    1. Coutinho > Hazard with my 1ft? Suicidal move?
    2. Start Lovren or Pieters? Swaying towards Pieters.

    Heaton
    Walker Evans Pieters
    Sanchez Coutinho Firmino Gundogan
    Lukaku Kun Austin
    (Jaku, Capoue, Lovren, Amat)

I'm looking at Lukaku to Kane in a few weeks.

Although I see Lukaku as the more attractive option this week, Spurs' fixtures look really good going forward. Kane'll do well this weekend also. The referee hot topic also suggests there might be a penalty..

Yeah true but if he brings in more points which I think he has a high chance of doing it can pay off. Evans doesn't score much or get much bps so it could work out for the better.

    Heaton Pickford
    Brunt / Pieters / Alonso / Francis / Kingsley
    Firmi / Ozil / Couti / Hazard / KDB
    Austin / Anichebe / Lukaku

    On a WC, 0.7 itb

How does it look? a bit pear shaped but I'm happy with the number of captain options I have without Kun or Ibra in the side.

Will Jenkinson be a better option compared to Brunt? worth a 3-4 week punt?

    1. HamezMace
      • 9 Years
      7 years, 6 months ago

I wouldn't want to be without at least one of Kun, Kane, or Costa.
      No Sanchez either.
It's not a bad team, but missing some big names imo.

      1. The Fantastic Mr Fox
        • 9 Years
        7 years, 6 months ago

I've got 5 players in the team who have outscored Costa in individual GWs on quite a few occasions. Kane isn't firing yet, don't want a big punt on WC. And regarding Kun, yeah. he's the big fish missing in my lineup. But KDB has matched his PPG since his debut, so I see him as the Kun placeholder

Fair points, should get a few explosive midfielder returns every week...hopefully you make the right captaincy choice.

We all know how hot and cold Lukaku can be.

I just think if playing with only 2 strikers, one of them should be from the 10m+ bracket....but as I say still a decent team, if you nail the captain pick you'll do very well.

Morning all. How much do we know about Eden's injury? I went all out to bring him in before his price rocketed, but now with Cout also on a late test and my rubbish bench I'm wondering whether it's worth taking another 4pt hit...

    Pick
    Mee Fuchs Walker (Holebas Smith)
    Hazard Cout Firmino Allen (Fletcher)
    Kaku Kun Austin

Worth swapping Smith out for McAuley? Otherwise G2G?

Cheers. Fingers crossed he's fit. Guess it's the same with Cout, who played 170 mins in the int'ls - wait and see.

Worth taking the 4 point hit for Smith to McAuley anyway, then either
        a) dropping Allen and going 4-3-3;
        b) straight swap for Mee; or
        c) leaving Cout in with McAuley on the bench and hoping he doesn't just cameo?

Not sure what move to make next, got a few issues (0.1m in bank). Already used FT this week to get Hazard in.

    2) Kelly vs Man City worries me, especially after the Holebas -2 last week. However if I save 0.1 for Pickford transfer, I only have 4.4... Nyom seems only real option here and isn't nailed on. Or could downgrade to Kingsley for issue 3)...

3)I'd like to move Wilson on for Austin, but the only way to do that is compromise defence by downgrading somewhere. Rondon could be an alternative, or just leave it and stick with 3-5-2...

Not sure how to play it, any advice is appreciated!

Spending a -4 this week on Pickford isn't a bad idea. I think Butland will come back next week so you'll have to make the transfer anyway, plus many are also taking a -4 because of the injuries and suspensions.

      Hope that helps.

I dont see him getting dropped with his current form and Siggy has not done much and on inevitable price drop with a poor team around.

What a treat it would be if Pickford could finally keep a cleansheet this weekend 🙂

Along with some saves and bonus points it'll be like Christmas come early

Yes indeed - I'm waiting for the inevitable 15 pointer from him! I got one last season (I think) from Myhill away at United when WBA drew 0-0. So good!

Right.... I think I've hit on a solution to my Lallana problem

This week, Lallana to Walcott 1 week early for the good Arsenal run, then next week Allen and Kaku out for Coutinho/Mane and Austin

That'll give me a team of
    Pickford / Jaku
Fuchs Walker Pieters / Amat 3.9
Coutinho/Mane Firmino Walcott Hazard / Fletcher
    Austin Costa Kun

    Monster front 7.

Good plan, or too much planning and I'm being silly cos of the long IB? 🙂

      Here's two

Obvious - Kane. If you can afford him go for it. Only 5.6% ownership.

Less obvious Charlie Adam. Lots of injuries in midfield so should start and his underlying stats have been good. This could be the perfect time for a one off punt on the former FPL legend - I'm certainly considering him for FanDuel.

        Barkley.

Kane's still a doubt, with Monaco and Cheslea next week. I'd be surprised if he played more than 70mins.

Would love Kane - if Costa is ruled out (and a part of me is hoping he is!) the two upcoming London derbies would hold no fear.

Problem is I already need to make changes elsewhere, so I probably won't do it quite yet.

Not a differential but as an Ibra seller and non-Lukaku owner I got him in and captained for Swansea. Plan now is to rotate this position every week injuries permitting...

Ibra comes back next week for West Ham, then he's out for Everton(a) maybe for Kane the following week. Should be fun!

Dangerous tactic. I sold kun for wba and brought in ighalo with the intention of going hull hunting but ighalo is still looking at me every time I open my fpl team as there has always been some other fire somewhere to put out.

Chadli probably. They don't play till Monday so he should be OK. He's the one I'd have liked to squeeze in - would have done had Sanchez not made a miracle recovery.

I think it's too soon for Kane myself. Long layoff and all that. Let him get some match fitness first.

Snodgrass away to Sunderland who have conceded 5 goals at home over the last 4 weeks and a total of 11 goals at home over the last 8 weeks. Out of those games, Sunderland have played 4 home games and conceded 3-3-1-4 goals.

I would not be surprised to see Snodgrass get a brace this week especially with him being on all set pieces and pens.
