The ScoutCast – Episode 224 – Maths

You get your Wildcard active, and we’ll do the maths. Or rather Jonty will.

This week’s ScoutCast gets highly technical as my aforementioned co-host goes all Rachel Riley on us (wishful thinking) and attempts to bewilder with a cheeky little algorithm he’s just happened to have rustled up.

Attempting to cut through the noise of the forthcoming double Gameweeks, Andy and Luke join me while Jonty gives his numbers an airing via another round of your targeted queries.

We chew over Gabbiadini’s demise, assess the Gameweek 37 potential offered by Spurs and Chelsea and, yet again, make another assessment of a slumbering Sanchez.

The end result all leads to the ScoutCast Wildcard template squad, as Big Vic crashes in and Luke stands alone in shunning Arsenal’s Chilean timebomb.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Good to go?

    DGWs in Caps

    CECH

    Alonso – Vertonghen – Clichy

    Hazard (C) – OZIL – Sané – King

    Kane – Lukaku – GABBIADINI

    Bench:
    Pickford; YOSHIDA; Zaha; Holgate

    Best combo:

    A - Cahill & Eriksen
    B - Azpi & Alli

Honestly toss a coin mate. B is cheaper isn't it? That might swing it to save cash for transfers 37-38.

Think Eriksen seems to be better away from home and Cahill more of a goal threat than Azpi in recent weeks so might go A.

Is Cahill more likely to get rested for Terry/Zouma once Chelsea wrap up the title?

Hasn't Conte got a replacement for each defender? I'm sure he said that his cover was:

          Azpi -> Zouma
          Cahill -> Terry
          Luiz -> Ake

Possible but I'm sure there's flexibility in that Terry could still play with Cahill

    ManU fixtures

    May 7 ars
    May 11 CELTAVIGVO
    May 14 tot
    May 17 south

how do you see Mourinho handling his team over the period? I mean, he can't really put a B team against Ars and tot, let alone Celtavigo

I think he will bring the game into disrepute on gw38. Swansea and Hull will catch Palace and he will play the mascots in 38, Palace will win and relegate Hull or Swansea

      A. For me Hazard most likely to get double figure hauls and Gabbi has extra games. Costa is consistent and Pedro has been good but is a rotation risk.

    Willy Pickford
    Kosc Monreal Yoshi Stephens Prodl
    Sanchez Hazard Tadic Capoue Kante
    Jesus Kane Costa

0.0 itb - chasing from a long way back, so going double Arsenal and Southampton defence (and hoping against a BTTS when they play each other), while shoe-horning in the ultimate big 5 up top with a poor TV.

I'm not that keen either believe me, but it's a case of shoe-horning all the big hitters who are likely to explode in - no point sticking to a template team when chasing from a long way back.

    Cech (De Ge)
    Alonso, Rannochia, Mustafi, (Mawson, Chambers)
    Alli, Eriksen, Hazard, Sanchez, King
    Gabbi, Jesus (Llorente)

    Caballero (Cech)
Holgate / Gabriel / Alonso (Huth / Yoshida)
    King / Ward-Prowse / Sanchez / Hazard (Albrighton)
    Costa / Kane / Jesus

Between Cech and Sanchez for me. I can't quite bring myself to captain a goalkeeper but deep down I think he will be the week's highest scorer.

Another reason why I'll go Sanchez is that the Chilean is something of a differential in my mini lg - where many rivals have already wildcarded and not included him - instead favouring Gabbiadini. Shaping up to being my Sanchez (c) v their Gabbi (c).

Think you win everty time then - crazy/ridiculous to C Gabbiadini.

If it's not Sanchez, it has to be Kane, Costa, Hazard or Jesus C. Gabbi C just doesnt make sense.

Recent DGWKs Grant, DDG, Baily have all prospered.

In the past BAE and Vidic got huge DGWK scores...... very reasonable to captain a defender in a double.

But, I've yet to find the gumption to do so - even though history says they are more profitable.

Jonty, you always do this! You'll mention another player and then play it safe only to go on the Scoutcast and say something along the lines of, "I was saying player X could do well". 🙂

The way Alexis (and Arsenal) are playing right now, there's only fear that gives him the armband this week. Yes, there's a greater chance of him doing something in 2 games, but perhaps the smarter money is on captaining Hazard, Jesus or one of the Spurs lads?

I really hope he continues to blank this week as those that pick players according to form and make rational decisions, will be rewarded.

I agree... I keep messing about with my team to get Sanchez in but it requires ditching Hazard and Sane for Pedro and Sanchez and although RMT tells me this gets me more, I do just think I'm putting in Sanchez not for rational reasons but due to fear, only fear.

I also need to pick and the added headache. I have to play my TC chip this week as I have my BB chip for GW37

Sanchez and Cech??? Or who else to TC

        Cech / Cabalerro
        Yoshida / Cedric/ Alonso / Bailly/ Davies
        Alli / Sanchez / Hazard / King / Ndidi
        Kane / Defoe / Gabbiadini

        Thanks

        Hazard.

Think Sanchez (have him too) will score more points in 37 than 36.

Logic says not to cap Sanch, dgw or not. Look at his returns, as we all know he does sweet FA when he's not upfront, so I expect an 8 point cappo from him this gw.

Haz at home to Boro, who are leaking now they are trying to score goals and he is a classic flat track bully, points to Haz cap for me.

Right - Sanchez is utter dog turd right now. Did anyone notice that? The best defence in the league rolls into town. Wenger has never beaten a Mourinho team competitively (Community Shield doesn't count as competitive, let's be honest).

Double gameweek blinkered vision abounds. I have Sanchez but I will certainly not be captaining him. Hazard this week.

see this is what I think. And for all Mourinho's rhetoric about fielding a team of kids, he's the boy who cried wolf. Remember Chelsea being a "little horse"? Yes he wants to win the EL but they still have a great chance of top 4, why let Arsenal gain 3 pts on them? He won't park a bus, it'll be a whole coachpark... and then have Rooney or whoever score from a set piece.

Cech. I don't/won't have Sanchez despite RMT telling me I should have him in for Hazard, Pedro in for Sane and Anichebe in for Barnes but I cannot do it, my eyes tell me Arsenal are poor right now... but don't concede. I'd love to captain Hazard but I think United will park the bus and Saints can't score, hopefully a double clean sheet for Cech with extras

Sanchez C. I'm like a magpie to DGWs

Issue for me is Chelsea points likely will be shared between Costa and Hazard, so I have both as coverage
Kane may score, but same issue of points going between him, Alli, Eriksen etc, whereas Sanchez is responsible for 90% Arsenal's attacking returns (few as they are)

I think part of it is because Costa has struggled for double digit returns of late...but I agree purely in terms of fixture the Spaniard edges it.

Both have the form - and although Kane has a poor away record - compared to at White Hart Lane - he has played far less games on the road....and then there's that Vicarage Road game to consider.

But if Spurs slip up and Chelsea clinch the title at WBA then Costa could well get discarded and miss the Watford game given his antics over the China move.

If Chelsea have it wrapped up Costa will almost certainly not start one of the GWK 37 matches....that is in the back of my mind. Can see him starting that GWK 38 home match though - think that'll be the first XI seeing as its at home.

Fair point. Another consideration for me is Pedro keeping Fabregas out of the side which isn't good news for Costa who thrives on Fab's through balls. If Fab was a cert to start then I'd strongly consider Costa. I doubt Pedro will get dropped this weekend after scoring that screamer against Everton.

the good thing about pedro and fab is that they both get game time even if they are not starting. That's why I've gone for Pedro. Costa has got a lot of goals from Fab assists in the final 20 mins.

Because Costa has not lost it yet and Costa is Costa. Can't trust the guy. If Spurs wins tonight and Chelsea is drawing at HT against MID, Costa owner will just have to hide behind the sofa and pray he's not going to blow up.

Leading in two ML´s but chasing in a third. Only in the league I´m chasing does rival have WC and BB. That said, do you think this hacks it?

      Pick, Caballero,
      Yosh, Stephens, Alonso, Monreal, Davies
      Haz, Alexis, King, Sane, Alli
      Jesus, Kane, Gabb

Or should I squeeze a differential in by swapping Monreal to Gabriel and then Sane to Eriksen? (davies would then become holgate or smith). Thanks a lot.

I actually think your original team is stronger than the one you are planning to change to

Looks alright. Must say I don't think Gabriel will start all 4, perhaps 2 at the most

I'm concerned Gabriel's starts will be limited, especially after conceding the penalty and being subbed in the last game.

learn something new everyday. 2 lines shorter than my normal go-to poem format (limerick). excellent.

Depends on that which players from Arsenal/City/Spurs you've already owned.

I've looked on at a lot of wildcard teams with envy, mainly because I've been restricted by a low team value of £101.3m.

So, for those with say £102m or less, how is your template looking? What budget options are you going for? Currently I'm on:

        Willy / Pickford
        Alonso / Davies / Gabriel / Holgate / Stephens
        Sanchez / Hazard / Eriksen / Sane / Carroll
        Kane / Jesus / Anichebe

Gives me three doubles this week (Sanchez cpt, Gabriel and Stephens) and 13 doubles next week (probably Hazard cpt). Would love to upgrade Gabriel>Monreal/Kos and Davies>Vert to mitigate rotation risk, as well as Carroll>King and Anichebe>Gabbi, but the funds don't allow.

How is everyone else tackling this dilemma?

You can sell Sane to King and do one of the mentioned upgrades.

          Kane, Gabriel --> Costa, Monreal
