The Community Round Up

Forget the age old debate of form versus fixture, the key issue in our community articles and hot topics this week was Fantasy versus real football form. Slick passers, Fantasy Premier League rule changes and intriguing differentials were also under discussion as we prepare for one of the least anticipated double Gameweeks on record. As ever, we catch up with the latest members tables and community tournaments as well as hear some welcome news about the health of a much-respected community veteran.

The Community Articles

The Puntmaster is enjoying an incredible purple patch in his mission to find the best punts each week. In the last two Gameweeks five out of six of his differentials have delivered. Dare you ignore his Gameweek 31 contenders?

There are some more punts to consider in Gameweek 31 in Matthew_1991’s excellent preview of the next set of fixtures and looking further ahead AZ has been looking at the best budget midfielders to consider for the run in.

While Sergio Aguero’s Fantasy form continues to be called into question, Ruth_NZ urges against mistaking this for a dip in real form. He argues that the Manchester City man is continuing to perform well, albeit in a position on the pitch that reduces his Fantasy points scoring potential.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

The lack of excitement for Gameweek 31’s double fixtures for QPR and Aston Villa was laid bare in our discussion on transfer plans. Doolittle, Beavis and Daniel West were among the many who responded who are set to go into Gameweek with just one player with two fixtures.

Instead there is more enthusiasm for the in-form single Gameweek options, in particularly from Manchester United, according to AA7’s discussion on the Red Devils, as well as Liverpool’s resurgent second half of the season.

On a similar theme as Ruth NZ’s community article, there was plenty of discussion on form in our hot topic on the differences between Fantasy and real football. For Ryan, playing Fantasy football enhances his enjoyment and understanding when watching matches, while for Moin, Fantasy football has made watching potentially tedious mid-table scraps worth persevering with.

When Paul Scholes was in his prime, there was no doubting his consistently good real life and Fantasy football form. The former Manchester United midfielder was among a host of slick passers as AA7 took us on a trip down memory lane to remember some of the great midfielders of all time.

As well as recalling international greats such as Socrates, this week’s international break also gave the community the chance to look at potential rule changes for FPL next season. In our discussion on the subject more points for goalkeepers was a popular call, made by Mndgms among others.

Finally, Beric popped by with another update about the progress of community veteran Doosra, who has been hospitalised with a serious illness for a number of weeks. Thankfully, Doosra is continuing to recover and there was further welcome news when Mondogoal announced it is running a special competition this weekend to raise money for Doosra’s family or a charity of their choice.

The Members Tables

Members will be more than familiar with our ICT index, which brings together player’s influence, creativity and threat statistics. JKisthe1 has been taking a closer look at the index this week to find the best performers in midfielder over the last four matches.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

Going into Gameweek 31 Grahame Fiddler had taken the outright lead in the FFS January Wildcard League, having scored 664 points in the last ten Gameweeks. He is now in the top 500 overall. Meanwhile, Aaron Thorburn still leads the Top 10k Any Season mini-league. Both these competitions are managed by community regular RedLightning.

The FFS UEFA group was also on hand for an update on their group tournament based around the Cricket World Cup.

        What's your opinion though ?

Palace has the 2nd worst defence in the league, and has only produced 2 clean sheets all season, and I don't have any DGWers too, and will not bring them either for one week.

Although Kane is being heavily backed by the community, but we say how Burnley kept a clean sheet against City at Turf Moor, and that's bothering me. Else it would have been a no-brainer. 😛

        Haha..

        But why ?
He is up against a Liverpool side which is setting benchmarks these days in terms of defence. He'll probably at most get one (either assist or goal), if at all.

Considering I don't have any DGWers and neither will bring any.

I guess it depends on who you're planning on selling Sanchez for (if you're going to sell him next week). If it'll be for someone like Siggy then I'd make the move now due to their respective fixtures.

Well, if Sanchez performs against Liverpool I may not sell him as I have him since the start, and find a downgrade elsewhere maybe Eriksen and Vert or even Aguero if he continues to blank. Just want to give Sanchez one more week, maybe it is stupid but I still have faith in him.

Does anyone have a view on the optimum balance between big hitters/high ownership players in a team and differentials?

I currently have 4 players under 5% ownership in my team, 5 big hitters and two safe defenders who fall between the two.

I'm thinking of replacing one middling defender with a diff off my bench but is that one diff too many?

Those playing a southampton defender over PVA what is the logic?

Southampton have consistently played good defence, unlike Sunderland.

So the fact that every single bookmaker has Sunderland at lower odds of a clean sheet, means you know better than all of them?

Tyneside derby, likely to be fiesty. Would be very surprised if both teams didn't score given their defensive frailties.

          Probably a betting scam then.

Odds are only marginally better. Other things to factor into the decision.

Bookies are also covering themselves against popular bets. Look at the anytime goalscorers odds. Often have players of big teams, like Remy and Drogba, with tighter odds than the likes of Austin. Sure, clean sheet odds are a better reflection but there are other facrots. In a derby the odds on red and yellow cards being brandished are higher for instance.

Playing PVA over Clyne (and Aldy).
      Read your article yesterday.

Previously kept Clyne on team sheet, only because Soto'n has been awesome defensively all season.

I just dont see the logic, the oddmakers on betfair etc all know perfectly well how both sides defend etc, yet money talks and it all says both not much chance of a cleanie, but sunderlnd more chance

Yet most on here say the opposite

most people have southampton defenders and are playing them so they have a better chance of a cs

I'm also pleased by Sunderland's defensive performance away at West Ham last time out, which is something I expected from then after Advocaat's arrival.

PVA has things in attack too. 🙂

Derbies are feisty affairs which tend to produce cards
Higher ownership so greater potential downside to benching
      Better defensive record
      Uncertainty over the new Sunderland

Saints a far superior defensive unit. Clyne a very good attacking threat, even if the stats favor PvA. Both facing inconsistent attacks. But the derby has more potential for goals and cards.

          What's not to like?

Agree it's close, but Clyne and Bertie get lots of bonus points and some attacking returns too. You could argue PVA offers decent attacking returns too but not the same bonus potential

I think they'll probably both concede. You can never completely write off the Saints' defence though. There's sure to be goals either side in the derby game

Did Pantilimon>Forster last week and he got injured JUST when I get him.
Now I got K. Davis for Forster.

If he doesn't play or gets injured I'll lose it.
