It’s eyes down for a full house, as this week bingo took centre stage in our hot topics and Scoutcast, while the search for budget strikers and the best set of statistics in Fantasy Football preoccupied our community writers. We catch up on the latest Members tables to help find those who are due a goal and also see who is riding high in our Community tournaments.
The Community Articles
Callum Wilson’s six month lay off through injury has thrown many a frontline into disarray this week. Luckily AZ was on hand with a trio of budget replacements to consider, while Rodellegabomb took a look at Leicester’s Jamie Vardy as a contender to replace the Bournemouth striker.
Rodellegabomb was back later in the week to ponder why Southampton midfielder Dusan Tadic has remained under the radar for so long as well as assess the latest trio of top bandwagons.
There are a raft of indicators that our community writers use to attempt to predict Fantasy Football returns. Your Mum’s Athletic uses bookies odds as a useful guide and dropped by with his latest bookmaker based predictions for Gameweek 8, as well as a recap of how his Gameweek 7 crystal ball-gazing skills fared.
For Rakkhi underlying statistics are key, and two sets of figures in particular proving to be crucial according to his search for one stat to rule them all.
Team form is something The Sarjeant swears by, according to his latest look ahead to the next Gameweek based on team performance so far. Form is also examined in Bowstring the Carp’s review of September’s key events, players and teams.
While for Tamagotchi Massacre, spot-kick duties are a great indicator of points. This week he has attempted to see if he can predict when penalties may happen.
Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article. Also please remember to vote for your favourite article in September and help one of our community writers to win a £20 Amazon voucher.
The Hottest Topics
The community discussions were also full of advice on budget strikers for Wilson owners. In our discussion on the Bournemouth striker’s lay-off, Vardy once again gets more than a few mentions, as does West Ham man Diafra Sakho.
The West Ham striker is attracting interest even amongst Fantasy managers with Dimitri Payet in their teams, according to Demi’s post on the potential returns from doubling up on in-form attacks.
Zasa is another to advocate such a strategy, particularly amongst Arsenal’s ranks, with Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott looking primed for points. Jaffalicious also advocated the goal scoring virtues of Walcott. While our Rough with the Smooth round-up of your previous weekend’s fixtures revealed just how pivotal Sanchez, and his hat-trick against Leicester, was to Gameweek 7’s score.
The best of these Rough with the Smooth tales were read out on this week’s Scoutcast, which, thanks to Numb, also took on a bingo theme as listeners kept a watchful ear on our often-used phrases.
For penny pinchers, there was also an array of budget options discussed this week, with NickofOz believing the attacking instincts of the 4.9m defender Daryl Janmaat more than atones for Newcastle’s lack of clean sheets. There are also midfield bargains aplenty at Norwich, says our resident Canaries fan Hooperman.
Elsewhere, Portsmouth Bubblejet was on hand with a simple guide to how selling price works in Fantasy Premier League.
There has even been some talk of selling Sergio Aguero this week, in our discussion on the Manchester City striker’s failure to reward those who have handed him the armband this season.
Finally, the answer to the question ‘when will I be famous?’ was answered this week for John Terry’s Dog after he revealed to the community that he shares his birthday this week with 1980s pop twins Bros. How old he is in human years, though, remains a mystery.
The Members Tables
To complement Rikkha’s community article on the best statistics to predict Fantasy returns, I’ve compiled this Members table, which is sorted by shots on target. Lorkingmuch has also been attempting to predict points through this look at the players who are due a goal.
If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.
The Community Tournaments
Balders was in the lead going into Gameweek 7’s matches in @OFCPodigy’s Scout Picks Challenge, which is based on our Scout Picks.
Graeme McCarthy retains the lead in RedLightning’s Top 10k Any Season league and Andy is another to stay top, keeping his place at the summit of the FFScout Moderators and Contributors league despite an audacious captaincy of Salomon Rondon.
Elsewhere, Moin has set up a FFScout community league in the Indian Super League, India’s three-month football competition which starts this weekend. Jaffalicious posted this update on the latest from his FFS UEFA Champions League themed tournament.
In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition, reshardo hit the top score in Gameweek 7 with 91. There are now 1980 teams qualified after 166 were eliminated when the safety score was set at 30.
Finally, where are you in the race for the American-styled Community Grand Play-Offs? Here’s tournament organiser Balders with the answer.
If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.
