Dugout Discussion

Dugout Discussion – Chelsea vs Watford

The seven-day Gameweek rolls on with a Monday night date under the lights of Stamford Bridge – the new home of the Premier League champions.

While tonight will doubtless witness scenes of celebration, Antonio Conte has given us Fantasy managers little to cheer with his team selection for the clash with Watford.

We were anticipating changes but a total of nine exceeds even our worst fears as a cast of premium assets get relegated to the bench or the stands.

They include the two top scoring defenders – Marcos Alonso and Gary Cahill – as Chelsea legend John Terry earns a run-out.

The Blues most popular player – striker Diego Costa – is also sat on the timber with Friday’s Hawthorns hero, Michy Batshuayi, leading the attack.

There are, however, some exceptions, with Cesar Azpilicueta and most notably, and surprisingly, Eden Hazard, retaining starting roles.

It remains to be seen how this impacts on their prospects for Gameweek 38 but, for now, their owners will be thankful of the possibility for returns in this evening’s clash.

Just what they can produce in such a weakened line-up remains to be seen. Watford certainly arrive in London in no great shakes – losing their last four without a single goal scored, although Chelsea’s teamsheet will surely give them a lift.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Good morning all,

    A couple of questions here

A- Do you think Gibbs will start tonight?
B- Do you think Hazard will start against SUN?

Why wouldn't he play if Koscielny is out?
Don't you think it will be Monreal Mustafi and Holding as back 3?

Since the opponents are Sunderland, I think there is no need to go over tactical and there could be a back 4 switch.

Let's face it, getting rid of Hazard is a risky move, at home to Sunderland, when nobody knows for certain if he plays or not. My gut says he starts. And if he does, anything is possible, surrounded by his first team buddies, Fabregas feeding him balls. He could be well up for dazzling the home crowd before being withdrawn on 70 minutes, that kind of thing would appeal to his ego...and who saw Sunderland against Swansea?

Hazard always go to sleep when the title has been won. Should have had a 10+ pts haul last night. He may not even start on Sunday. Too much of a risk. I think Hazard to Coutinho makes perfect sense.

Yeah Azpi and Luiz are gametime risks. Similar to Pedro. But that match could be a rout so if Pedro does start he could do damage. Cheers for your thoughts 🙂

Azpi will play the full 90 - he is the only player to have played every single minute in the league this season, Conte wont take that achievement away from him

It's a last game punt and if you get it wrong then maybe you are out of the top 100, get it right and you are top 50.

Pedro plays and hopefully does well ... or ... gets hardly any minutes - no idea which will happen but is it worth the risk when you could play a nailed Coutinho ?

You have done very well, trust your own gut and good luck

How about Pedro -> Cout and Jesus -> Sturridge, but you might not have enough dosh for this. If you're after a punt I would certainly do some homework on the 30 or so teams above you.

Off topic: Lads, I am starting a new job next week (publicly-traded IT) where I need to be clean shaven everyday. I usually shave once per week with a safety razor but everyday just seems another ball game.

I haven't asked my new colleagues yet. What would you recommend I shave with so that I do not mess up my skin, also what is most cost effective? Safety razor, Gillette razors, or electric shaver?

    Cheers!

You mean everyone has gone over having beards at your work place?

I keep a short beard these days but I just use a straight razor and standard foam on stray hairs and neck.

I think the tip is not to press to hsrd and let the razor/shaver etc do the work.

Also foam/gel up property and let set in for a few mins on face.

      Congrats Btw.

      I'm probably ditching for Coutinho.

      Start/significant minutes far from assured.

Whether he gets returns is also far from assured.

I've Pedro and Alonso - who should start given their rest.

For me there is more upside to captaining Coutinho in a likely must win game for Liverpool against my least favourite Prem Lg side.

There's no way I'd captain Hazard - lots of reasons to captain Phil.

Last gameweek of the season is not just a goal fest - it is also a home fest - all the home sides traditionally do far better in this fixture as they wrap up the season.

For me Coutinho has the edge over Kane....mainly really as a mid who gets goals and assists and cs pts and bonus etc.... more routes to pts.

Sanchez yes a good option and may still go for him.

Definitely captaining a home player though.

I think Costa may be the best bet of all - but I don't own him. That sunderland defence really is tragic.

Would you consider swapping Jesus for Costa for a FT? I have 2 FT at the moment.
Thinking of going: Hazard, Jesus > Coutinho, (C)osta

Actually not about that. Boro were better than Brighton that year and deserved to go up. Its Sheff Wed who I have animosity towards as they were a far weaker side who got the better of an injury ravaged Brighton.

My problem with Boro is this season- they rarely attacked, the tactics were negative, they didn't have any flair...they were just an awful side to watch. Hull went down but did it in style.

I was going to say Brighton played better across the season last year and attacked....We went up on 1-0's...Boring Aitor Karanka!

In his/our defence, he said in January we needed flair to stay up! Is it possible to argue that Burnley also rarely attack and that they will be set to drop next year?

I think Burnley will have problems next year indeed - as there is only so long you can have those tactics and not get xposed.

Although with 40 more shots and 11 more goals over the season Burnley definitely weren't as bad as Boro in terms of lack of attacking play.

Why would you have animosity towards Wednesday for simply taking advantage of the fact that Brighton had several injuries to key players. Is it not a squad game?

Also, for the record, in the 2-0 home tie Wednesday were by far the better team in that game. I went to that match and Brighton barely got a kick. I accept in the second leg we got lucky....but you have animosity towards a team for getting some luck??

We lost in an appalling manner in the final anyway, but this season Brighton have got it right, and hopefully we will too.

            Hold your 'animosity' please...

I think he'll play - just perhaps as a 20 min sub...to big ovation from crowd.....or start and come off at 60 mins.

Either way there's doubts which is never good for fantasy managers.

Theres enough doubt to stop me captaining him but I wont be selling him. He's owned by 1/3rd of the managers in FPL and could easily score 10+ points in 20 mins.

Not sure what to do about him. I was expecting a mostly first XI on Sunday but he's put a spanner in the works. I'm hoping Conte lets us know because it could be a bloodbath against Sunderland.

I would really like Costa in my team. Unless I remove Kane it's a hit I would need to take.

I could do Hazard+Anichebe to 4.3m mid (benched) and Costa but not sure it's worth a hit!

I think it's a tough one because if he starts, there is no point getting rid.

But I'm thinking Fabregas is more likely to start and in better form. And that downgrade would also allow me to upgrade King to Coutinho or Anichebe to Llorente, for instance.

Or, with a silly -8, to replace Hazard, KDB (if don't perform tonight)/Sanchez (if injured) and Anichebe with Fabregas, Coutinho and Sturridge/Vardy.

I am probably going to keep, unless Conte says he's not playing of course. At home in particular he is a flat-track bully, and you don't get much worse than SUN. Even if he comes on with 30 mins to go, you have to fancy him doing something despite his blank yesterday.

I think I will either downgrade Alli to Coutinho, or use my FT on a defender.

I'm looking at Hazard, Gabbi and Vert to Coutinho, Costa, Ake (-4) and play AoA (5th mid Albrighton).

Thinking he will play and it will be a proper full team to carry some momentum into the finals. They didn't get to sub him yesterday so looking at a 70th minute grand ovation for him and another for Kante and Costa.

Ditching for Coutinho for sure. I checked my current team + Cout for fpl form, personal stats and fixtures. Coutinho came out on top and Hazard bottom, so even if he plays I don't expect him to do me too much damage.

Very tricky call could go either way. I'm kind of hoping I get an injury then the decision is made for me to keep!

Three options, hold, swap for Liverpool/City mid, or downgrade and at the same time upgrade Victor and play my AOA chip. Not sure I want to take a hit on the last day though but a Sane/Llorente(-4) combo could easily outscore my Hazard plus Capoue or Yoshida.

    KDB, Sane, King, Alli, Sanchez
    Kane, Jesus

    Pickford, Stephens, Holgate, Anichebe

Can't see Cahill playing, also have reservations with Gibbs. Stephens and Holgate should both start imo.

Do I have enough options in defence to avoid a defensive transfer?

I'll probably ditch KDB for Coutinho with my free transfer

You don't think the de facto captain plays in the last home game of a title winning season?

How big is the probability that Kane might be rested in GW38? I mean is there a point making Costa → Kane?

Does Kosc not starting pretty much nail Gibbs on?

I guess. Is Kosc been officially ruled out? Seem to have missed that

He wasn't pictured in training yesterday.
