The Community Round Up

The dust has barely settled on the season and already the community is looking ahead to the next campaign. Potential Fantasy Premier League (FPL) rule changes, Spurs’ temporary home and Manchester United’s transfer activity are among the forward-thinking topics under discussion.

However, there are still some outstanding issues following the final set of fixtures of 2016/17 to consider. Our community articles find out how Fantasy Premier League’s best managers fared this season, while our Members tables take stock of the season’s best forwards and attacking defenders.

We finish off with a look at those who scooped top honours across our community competitions.

The Community Articles

There were mixed fortunes for last season’s top five in the Career Hall of Fame, according to Top Marx’s round-up of their Gameweek 38 transfers and scores. This detailed series has become an excellent regular addition to our community articles over the season.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Among issues for next season under consideration are potential changes to FPL with PKW calling for an ambitious overhaul of the bonus system, prizes and transfer market.

For FPL Virgin he wants to see a more modest revamp, involving greater rewards for clean sheets and, bizarrely, extra points for those players who miss out due to a team-mate’s hairline.

Another consideration for the season ahead is how Spurs will perform when their home games take place at Wembley, while they await construction of their new stadium. As Top Marx points out this is a venue that has not brought Mauricio Pochettino’s side positive results in recent cup competitions.

A price hike for Spurs talisman Harry Kane looks inevitable following a second successive Golden Boot, so we asked whether he will justify the extra outlay, especially as his team has to settle into a temporary home?

While Manchester United excelled in cup competitions, despite the best efforts of a psychic cow, their Premier League campaign was disappointing. With the Red Devils finishing in sixth, 24 points behind champions Chelsea, reinforcements will be needed next season. Among potential new recruits is Athletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann, with Andy85wsm launching a discussion on the Frenchman earlier in the week.

While there is uncertainty over Manchester United’s line-up next season, at least one key aspect of the 2017/18 campaign is written in stone, according to Parm – FPL will definitely launch during the week of July 10th.

That leaves plenty of time to take stock of 2016/17’s high lows and crucially, lessons learned.

Somethodox delivered his key 20 lessons he has taken from the season, while our Gameweek 38 rough with the smooth round-up gave the community a final chance before next season to brag about a stellar weekly score, or plead for sympathy after it all went array.

Those who sealed a top 1,000 finish should really have very few gripes. This week AA33 has started compiling a roll call of the very many community regulars who were part of this elite group at the season’s close.

The summer break also gives us an opportunity to look back on some of the best players of the season. With our polling starting this week on 2016/17’s best Fantasy assets we asked who were your favourite keepers and defenders.

There was further rearguard discussion via Samwise the brave, who issued a plea for tips on developing a high scoring defence. Investing in Chelsea’s backline could be key, according to Vibudh’s hot topic on the champion’s best players.

Finally, We’re All Obsessed has been surveying how many points the community has won or lost through FPL’s chips. Based on a sample size of almost 50 managers, this revealed that Bench Boost is by some distance the most lucrative source of extra points.

To view all our discussions please visit our Hot Topics page. We are also still keen to hear from you about how this can be further developed.

The Members Tables

Our Members Tables offer a wealth of information for those looking to assess the best players of 2016/17 as they prepare for next season. The most recent and most popular tables can be found via the Members home page, and we urge you to also create your own.

As an example of the range of information available my One Stat To Rule Them table offers an insight into the season’s sharpest shooters, while my Attacking Defenders table gives an indication of the players capable of earning points at both ends of the pitch.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Boris Bodega has won our 2016/17 Scout Picks Champion contest, where each week a community member aims to beat our selection by the biggest margin. His 33-point victory over the Scouts in Gameweek 15 proved impossible to beat, and he scoops a £100 Amazon voucher as well as a place in our Contributors and Moderators League next season.

The final Scout Picks champion of the season, Rossendale Rover, beat the Scouts 82-67.

Kings of Lyon has won Gnu’s Wigan to me H2H contest, beating second placed Royscalleranne, who missed out again in HVT’s Irish Contingent league. After leading this for a number of Gameweeks he was overtaken by Godot by just two points. Both finished in the top 1,000, and Potatoace came third.

In Red Lightning’s January to May league Mike Gallagher finished top with a Gameweek 38 score of 104, closely followed by Niklas Zanden. Long time leader RuthNZ dipped down to fifth with a score of 77 in the season finale.

Jon Vetle Vamraak retained his lead to be crowned champion of Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season league.

Mark scooped top spot at the end of the FFScout Moderators and Contributors league campaign, with a 13-point lead over second placed TorresMagic.

In my Millionaires Club, for those with a rank the wrong side of one million at the Gameweek 12 mark, long time leader Gilles Wanlin finished on top with a commanding 38 point lead over Tim Baildam.

If you are running a community tournament over the summer or heading into next season and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-ups, please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

So genuinely happy for Marco Reus, the way he plays and effort he puts in, he deserves a career filled with trophies and winners medals.

Despite the fickle Arsenal fans I am really glad they won. Wenger is a legend of a manager and deserves at least that and alot more respect than people give him. The wenger out brigade should be careful what they wish for they could easily become a Liverpool.

Also Chelsea deserved to lose simply due to that absolute cringy 26th min malarky against Sunderland. I really hope I dont see that sort of thing again.

So this is part of a Facebook fantasy game I play with a few friends.
The one who deciphers this gets an advantage in their final scores.
Any gamers here know what the following means?

world of video games- Dragon Age Origins***

The Chantry teaches us, it’s the hubris of men that brought the darkspawn in our land. The mages had sought to usurp heavens, instead they destroyed it. They were cast out , twisted and cursed by their own corruption. They returned as monsters , the first of the Darkspawns. They became a BLIGHT upon the land, unstoppable and relentless.

Only the Greywardens could fight and stand against the darkspawn. Men and women from every races mages,. Greywardens sacrificed everything to stem the tide of darkness and prevail.

Our protagonist, a new recruit to the Greywardens by Duncan, had to undergo the joining, a process of drinking Darkspawn blood and surviving. He took the Greywarden oath, which serves as their motto in every battle.

The king of Ferelden along with his commander Loghain and Duncan prepeared for the battle of Ostagar against the darkspawn.

But the heroes lost the battle of Ostagar, there was a betrayal and the darkspawned prevailed , trigerring the start of 5th BLIGHT in Ferelden. Our protagonist somehow survived.

As our story went on, the protagonist and his party formed alliances to defeat the Archdemon and end the blight. He was given an honorary title in Ferelden.

    1. Find out the motto/oath of the Greywardens- relate to the real life match outcomes to decipher the advantage or disadvantage.

    2. A tragic incident in the battle of ostagar can be related to a particular player type of every fantasy team. However the rewards/penalty will be inversely awarded.
    3. The title of the protagonist can be related to the players in the match. Advantage is on.

Would love it if someone helps make sense of this.

    Thanks.

As a pool fan I don't think so. Don't think the squad is deep enough will CL.
On City I agree. The question of Kun or Jesus was silly, with both they rip teams apart and not bad transfer made already. Kompany fit - title is theirs for the taking.

It just keeps going up a level every year. I just can't see it - hope I am wrong.

What Arsenal can do without CL is important and probably depends on where you stand on the Wenger argument.
Have we reached a scenario where a team playing CL will find it hard to win the PL, based on the last 2 years?

So suprised with WHM abject failure this season but there was a lot of change tbf. I rate Bilic highly and 1-2 hammers in GW1 squad may not be a bad call at all. No reason why WAT won't continue that defensive solidity that served them well. They never seem to get beaten up and give up a cricket score.

A lot depends on who gets the likes of Griezmann, Lukaku and Aubeyang but City and Utd will probably be the big winners in the transfer merry-go-round.
With Spurs moving to Wembley and perhaps least likely to improve their squad, I think they are in the biggest danger of dropping out the top 3.

Kane then becomes the conundrum - he normally does not start well, they don't perform at Wembley but are you going to risk going without?

Why do people rate Newcastle's defence?

Their results against teams in the Top 7 in the Championship was Won 5, Drawn 2, Lost 5. Teams like Stoke are easily better than Sheff Weds etc so if Newcastle can't beat those how are they going to beat teams in the PL?

Slightly different mindset in the PL though, in the Championship they were under pressure to attack teams especially at home. He can justify playing 5-5-0 in the PL, hopefully 🙂

I think Sane has gone under the radar a bit this season. He's shown his potential, but not enough to be considered a big hitter. But with the eye test I'm pretty sure he can rack up some serious points.

Just thinking about this - the best strategy is to see the Group Stages as three rounds?

So pick a team for the Round 1 then effectively wildcard (use 10 transfers) for Round 2 and then WC again (10 transfers) for Round 3.

Then you get the unlimited transfers for the semis and the finals so are wildcarding again.

Yeah. India don't have a match till June 4. So don't go there for the first 3 days.
Australia have on 2 nd, 5th and 10th. So you can balance it out there.
New Zealand have on 2, 6 and 9. So these people can be altered with the Australians after the first match.

I am looking at this as a high ownership team. Should protect rank.

Root, Warner, Williamson, Smith, Iqbal, Wade, Stokes, Shakib, Moeen, Woakes, Mortaza.

Another way is to divide 8 teams and make them into 4 groups of 2 teams each. You can use them together like the new Zealand Australia example above.

Apologies for this question as I've not checked it all out as yet but presumably one can't just change the whole team for each match; there is a set time you need to stick with your team before you can effectively wildcard for another block of fixtures ?

When a player chips a ball through and runs on to his own pass I have never seen an offside given unless another player actually touches the ball - even if they do make a move towards it. And clearances that bounce off a hand from less than a yard away are also seldom given - as the player hardly has time to get out of the way. But a player controlling the ball with his hand and gaining an advantage from it does always seem to be given as handball - accidentally or not. You see these in midfield quite a lot and this is really the decision that the ref should have made.

      3. Jafalad
        • 14 Years
        6 years, 11 months ago

Would have been harsh to penalise him as the ball was hit at him from very close range.

Remember every referee's decision is based on intent.

Personally think they should go for Lukaku and Salif Sane

        Cech
        Holding Mustafi Koscielny
        Bellerin Xhaka Sane Monreal
        Ozil Sanchez
        (Lukaku)

        Ospina
        Gabriel Mertesacker Chambers Gibbs
        Ox Cazorla Elneny Ramsay
        Welbeck Giroud

Sell Debuchy, Jenkinson, Iwobi, Coquelin, Walcott and Perez.
