The Community Round Up

With the cold snap across the Atlantic threatening to make its way over to the UK this weekend, our community writers were keeping a watchful eye on the weather forecasts. The fixture list is also under close examination with impending blank and double Gameweeks to navigate.

Among the chief concerns for the community in our hot topics this week was Diego Costa’s three-match ban, which is forcing many wildcarders to revisit their plans. We also look at Fantasy Football addiction and assess Fantasy managers’ ongoing search for bargains and differentials in midfield. Elsewhere, we catch up with the latest statistics in our Members Tables to help pinpoint the best potential prospects over the coming Gameweeks.

The Community Articles

With some worrying weather reports brewing across the Atlantic, fears are mounting that the UK could be hit hard by snow over the weekend. With the spectre of postponed matches looming, Triggerlips has been looking at the options at avoiding snowmageddon for our Fantasy squads.

For Bouncebackability the forthcoming blank Gameweek 28, for the League Cup finalists and their scheduled opponents is another concern. Here he looks over the implications and possible double Gameweek scenarios.

Following on from last week’s comparison of points per minute and value among Chelsea’s midfielders Jaffalicious has broadened his research to include all defenders, midfielders and forwards. There was further detail about the best budget backline options from Dynamic, in his look at the best three way rotation combinations in defence.

Goalkeepers were another focus for our community scribes, with Mouldmaster taking a look at Arsenal’s budget stopper David Ospina and how he fits into the latest goalkeeper rotation options.

Demi popped by to invite the community to join him in a game of Fantasy Cricket. Details on the game and how to take part can be found here.

The community received a huge boost last week in the Scout Picks when their Gameweek 22 champion Brooksyp got the better of all three scouts. Innsie, who was crowned Gameweek 23 champion will be hoping with similar success with his XI.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

With his reckless stamp on Liverpool’s Emre Can during Chelsea’s League Cup semi-final Diego Costa earned a three-match ban and some filthy looks from his many owners in the community. For some, though, his absence is proving the perfect excuse to freshen up their frontlines, as our discussion on the Chelsea striker’s antics showed. Further replacements were also on offer in Captain Shirokov‘s look at the current best forward lines.

While Sergio Aguero is proving a popular pick there is no such love for forwards at City’s closest rivals. Ruth NZ is among those to believe it is time to avoid the Manchester United attack after Louis van Gaal’s tactical tinkering saw them fail to muster a goal against lowly Cambridge United in the FA Cup last week. Ruth was back again later in the week to ask the community to be brave and list their weaknesses, something Costa should perhaps consider.

Prior to the ban announcement, there was no such cynicism for the potential of attackers Aguero or Costa to shine in Sinik’s discussion on the Premier League’s top goalscorers’ essential status. Wilshire Knowledge was among those to sing the praises of Aguero, while Adriano believes both deserve this lofty status.

Differentials also came under the radar when we asked where all the bargain midfielders have gone given Gylfi Sigurdsson’s three match ban and Stewart Downing’s tough upcoming fixture list. The ensuing discussion offered up a raft of potential new bargains.

Hooperman, meanwhile, has taken a look at new Sunderland forward Jermaine Defoe’s prospects as a differential to current budget forward favourite Harry Kane.

Finally, the latest session of Fantasy Football managers anonymous was in session this week when we asked the community when they first became addicted to the game. For Innsie, it was in the final few minutes of an exam when his mind turned to impending price changes. Similarly, Henry Hill realise he was addicted when, in a shop, he handed over the exact change at the counter and remarked how it was lucky “there weren’t any price rises overnight.”

The Members Tables

Doosra’s Deadly Assassins table continues to be our most popular Members Table. Its strong focus on shooting accuracy and chance creation will prove comforting viewing for those backing a certain Arsenal midfielder with the captaincy armband this week.

Those looking to find the top points scorers of the future are urged to visit my assist imminent and goal imminent tables, where some familiar and surprising names nestle alongside each other.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

Done Giroud to Costa. Is it worth ditching Debuchy for a hit? Allows me to bench Wasil(mun)

True, but nobody expected it. Tbh United hardly frighten anybody these days, and even though i expect them to win, it wouldnt SHOCK me if they couldnt score. Fergie days are over.

agree completely there. You said it yourself though you expect them to win. Would you not also expect Arsenal to keep out Villa thus making it worthwile to swap debuchy for kosc and bench wasil?

Yeah, i would. And even though i have Koscielny in my own wc team, i dont think taking hits for defenders are worth it. Villa have been somewhat of a bogey team for Arsenal too. But IT youre going to take a hit, id go for Kosc out of those.

With Kosc it is fine this GW. Also Aldy is coming back soon and everyone should have a Che defender and Wisdom. ADM is a great pick this week and Chadli might have a blinder... see how he reacts.

    Any reason Bellerin won't start?

He started the last two league games in which Arsenal kept cleansheets. One of those games being against City. Makes sense not to change the dynamic and drop him for Chambers, right?

Tell me again why it is bad to take a hit before WC?

    1. Pepereina Pizza
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 4 months ago

      because it's 4 pts

      1. ILOVEBAPS
        • 12 Years
        9 years, 4 months ago

It is always thus. What makes a WC the week after so much worse to take a hit?

        1. Billy Gilmore
          • 12 Years
          9 years, 4 months ago

Because if you aren't WCing then the -4 effectively saves a FT from doing the transfer next week, with a WC there aren't any FTs to save.

          1. ILOVEBAPS
            • 12 Years
            9 years, 4 months ago

I get that thanks. Comes down to whether you think your -4 will pay off in THAT GW. Points is what counts so if you get more than those 4 back before WC then it was beneficial.
I guess normally you make the move with a longer timeframe in mind so the -4 spreads out over a few GW's instead of just one.

    2. Bojan Horsemack
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 4 months ago

Tis nonsense. If you can put a good team out with a minus 4 and think the extra week will be a big help to your WC prospects, then it's better to wait. Though you've missed today's cut-off now if that matters. How many flags?

      1. ILOVEBAPS
        • 12 Years
        9 years, 4 months ago

Just Sanchez. Its more a punt before WC... it involves Silva (bench) though I'd want him back again next GW. Guess it's not really worth it.

Yes, I'd consider for sure. Bigger goal threat than William and will hopefully add to what the Ivan + Willian combo has been lacking on the right, dynamism. Very AdM-esque player in the sense that he's great dribbler of the ball, loves to take on opponents and is extremely creative.

He's been great in the hole this year for Fiorentina, and last year was one of best players in Serie A when he was playing on the deep wings. He's versatile for sure and can track back just as well as Willian, he knows how to defend and with his pace is great for the WIlliam role or even the pivot out of necessity

    4. TeamSteam
      • 11 Years

Lets first see if he starts regularly. Shafting Willian is no easy task. Theyre pretty close in ability, imo. Cuadrado having better end product, but still. Willian is underrated.

Willian has been the worst player in Chelsea this season mate imo, not sure I'd agree they have the same ability. Cuadrado has been the go-to man in attack for Fiorentina these past few years ago and was a stand-out player in the WC as well, can't say William has the same credentials mate.

You're definitely right in the sense that they have similar repertoire, but Cuadrado is a better passer, finisher, and is more versatile than Willian PB. Statistically, Willian has been the worst player in Chelsea's XI's (along with Cahill), and has been poor on all fronts. He's underrated in the sense that he's a workhorse sure, but he's not the player they need on the flank, Ivan has been more of a threat than him on the right and has produced more than him.

Even if you were right, beeing the worst player on the best team in the league isnt all that shabby. And he hasnt been worse than Cahill 😛

Cuadrado had a good WC, and i am aware of his performances in Serie A. But its still Serie A, and you dont have to look further than Jovetic to find someone who dominated even more and doesnt seem to have what it takes to be a BPL great.

Willian might not be the ideal solution on the flanks, but i still think hes underrated. Hes not just a workhorse, i think hes got some brilliance in him. Hes not as good as the others there, sure, but he fits nicely into the team.

True in any case mate, Cahill has been abysmal 😯

Good points on Jovetic, but I feel this is uncomparable simply because the two play in very different positions. Cuadrado is almost tailor made for this Chelsea side for what he delivers and for what the team lacks, this is a master stroke from Mou imo. Cuadrado isn't flash in the pan mate, he's proven internationally too with Colombia (WC qualifiers also) and is the second best player behind J-Rod at current.

You're right, he does play his role very well, but fact of the matter is that he isn't creating sufficient chances for his attacking role. He's a winger with defensive responsibilities, but he's winger first and foremost. He loses the ball too easily, is clumsy and can't seem to deliver the final ball when it counts. There have been many games this season when Chelsea needed another outlet on the right of the attack when Hazard was off-form or was marginalized, that's when you need a player like Cuadrado to come in he provides a different aspect of play.

William is a good role player though for sure mate

How many players from Chelsea/Spurs/Leicester/QPR do you own?

3, for me. Might bring in Schlupp, though.
