The Community Round Up

Basking in the glow of a sensational Gameweek 8 score, many of the community were still counting up their goals and assists long after the final whistle last Sunday. We glance back at another sensational display from Sergio Aguero and Southampton’s players and look ahead to the coming Gameweeks, with hidden Fantasy gems and new managerial appointments dominating discussion. Elsewhere, we catch up on the latest Members tables as well as find out what effect last weekend’s goalfest had on our community tournaments.

The Community Articles

Swansea’s dip in form while Tottenham and Crystal Palace’s ability to finally find their feet this season are the key issues discussed in Rakkhi’s team trends analysis of the first eight Gameweeks.

Congratulations to The 3rd Turd whose analysis of Fantasy Football radars and bubbles have earned him £20 Amazon voucher after winning the Community article of the month vote for September.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Liverpool’s sacking of Brendan Rodgers and wooing of former Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp was amongst the hot topics discussed during this week’s international break. Berbinho’s Forehead’s focus was on Rodgers differences with Liverpool’s transfer committee, while Numb pondered whether Klopp will flop.

Meanwhile, Theo Walcott was dramatically dumped by John Terry’s Dog as his affections move across the capital to West Ham’s Dimitri Payet. His break up letter to the Arsenal man proved a real tearjerker.

Trigg has been asking which have been the community’s worst transfers. Could dumping Walcott be added to that list when it is refreshed in a few Gameweeks time?

There may be some more broken hearts should the community’s hidden gems for the coming Gameweeks fail to shine.

Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand was among the key names mentioned as differential prospects and was also discussed in Rodellegabomb’s hot topic on the Saints more settled backline.

For the second year running, Gameweek 8 proved pivotal to many of our community who backed Southampton’s assets, as well as Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero with the captain’s armband. Last season Aguero scored four against Tottenham, while Southampton humiliated Sunderland. Both were at it again this season, with the Argentine striker scoring five against Newcastle and Southampton putting Chelsea to the sword. A more detailed look back at what was a week to savour for many can be found in Your Mum’s Athletic’s latest What the Bookies say update.

The spooky coincidence of Gameweek 8’s repeated success for many of our community also sparked a discussion on other illogical Fantasy Football folklores.

In the more immediate future, though, Aguero owners are facing a nervous wait to see the extent of an injury picked up while on international duty for Argentina. Here we look at some of the potential scenarios and contingency plans should he face a lengthy lay-off.

Another star of Gameweek 8 was Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen. His two wonder free-kicks against Swansea inspired Demi to start a discussion on Europe’s best free kick specialists.

Amongst the community, EnglishNo7 was one of the biggest beneficiaries of Gameweek 8’s goal-a-thon. He finds himself at the top of the Fantasy Premier League Fantasy Football Scout league and dropped by to deliver some words of wisdom for his fellow Fantasy managers.

Finally, while FPL is the main game for much of our community there are plenty of other Fantasy Football games out there, from weekly contests to draft games. Here the community offered their thoughts on coping with the multi-Fantasy football experience.

The Members Tables

For those eyeing up Southampton players, I’ve made this table looking at their key attacking assets. Elsewhere, Doosra has made this table looking at this season’s best deadball specialists and the Sportsguy has turned to shots on target to find the brightest midfield diamonds.

Giggs Boson has been looking at those players that are scoring well from few opportunities or shots on target. There was further discussion around this ‘lethal or imposter’ table and the ways it can be interpreted here.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

There were some huge scores in round 2 of Jaffalicious’s FFS UEFA Champions League style tournament, according to his latest update.

Niclas Andersson’s tally of 118 in Gameweek 8 meant he has regained the lead in Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season mini-league. He now sits in 144th overall and also retains top spot in the FFS Old Farts Club league, for our community’s elders as well as first place in the Long and Winding Road main league.

There’s no stopping Andy in the FFScout moderators and contributors league. He remains in first after recording an impressive score of 110 in Gameweek 8. Greenwindmill is the latest to take second place in an attempt to catch him.

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition, Gecko hit the top score in Gameweek 8 with 131 where the safety score was set at 61. Entry is open during for the international break, for more details visit here.

Finally, here’s a reminder from Jarvish of his Blank Weekend Challenge competition. This focuses on some of the lower English league players and is ideal for those keen to scratch their Fantasy Football itch during the international break.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

It's worth a WC (if you have one) with this Aguero injury, right?

Yeah, I defintely need those two out. Sturridge is a gamble, and I'm not sure on him myself, haha. Not happy with most of my team to be honest. I may WC...

Thanks for the advice though mate 🙂

I pondered earlier in the week about Silva or KDB...no doubt in my mind that Silva is the better player..but then I thought about all the times he's been injured for me and went for KDB...Sheesh...he's just that predictable...

Tbh he remained fit for most of last season, just missing 8 or so weeks early in the season from 1 bad injury.

    front 8:

    KDB, Mahrez, Payet, Hazard, Barkley
    Aguero, Vardy, Ighalo

Already taken -4.... but want to take it to -12 this week with:

Aguero>Pelle and Barkley>Sanchez because I really fancy their immediate fixtures.

Thoughts? Also, my thinking is -12 is a lot but most ppl (most importantly in my mini league) will be taking -8 this week anyway, so not too bad?

Yeah I think you're right, a lot of people will be taking hits and imo Sanchez and Pelle will outscore Barkley and Aguero by 8 at least

Even if you haven't got time / can't be bothered to research fully, why not just pick a team at random - you might get lucky? All the attackers in each group are designed to be as similar in scoring potential as possible to each other, and League One is notoriously unpredictable anyway!

Competition is totally free to enter and you might win a £10 Amazon voucher, so nothing to lose....... 🙂

Thanks, guys. I'm happy with team. Just have Aguero and Koscielny, and would like to tweak a couple more, but they are not critical. I can handle Aguero for minus 4, or minus 8 if I want to reallocate to a stud mid for strong front 8.

I'd go Lukaku and Mane long term, Pelle and Mane short term. Pelle has some amazing fixtures coming up, so should score in them. But I dont particularly like him as a long term option as, even though he is a great player, he needs way to many chances to score. Hope this helps, and good luck! 🙂

I am not overly keen. The defence needs some work imo as you only have 3 probable first choice defenders which is a bit risky.
      Midfield is fine.
Front line is fine for a 3-5-2.

Overall I would drop Hazard for someone a little cheaper and improve the defence.

      1. 123thro
        • 9 Years
        8 years, 8 months ago

Yeah, I agree its a poor defence (all my WC teams are like that, I focus on attack, and then look for the cheapest defence, probably why I'm not so good at the game really).

I do agree on Hazard, but I am set on keeping him. I don't know, I've just had him for so long, and I love watching him play, and rate him so much as a player, I just can't help but think this is just a dry spell and that he will eventually come good (though I probably am wrong!)

        Cheers anyway mate 🙂

But you do need to do something. You need at least 4 playing defenders or you will regret it. Personally I think you need all 5 to be playing in a very cheap rotation.

Ref O Shea I don't think it is impossible that Fat Sam will improve the Sunderland defence. But I wouldn't gamble on it.

      3. 123thro

I dont even know who Ake is! He played 90 mins last game though, haha. Yeah, I agree on pelle over Bony, Im just being sentimental to City though.

Agree on the weak defence, but I do think Gabriel will be more likely to start than to not play, think Mertesacker was dropped for Gabriel prior to Koscielny's injury. And yeah, it is a gamble on Oshea, but big Sam will improve Sunderland's defence, and I just know that he will love Oshea, he is such a big Sam player.

Do you think it's a bad decision to WC or just a bad WC team?

        Cheers 🙂

They could, and it might be worth the gamble. I just know Lukaku will be for the long term. Costa and Chelsea could still continue to flounder. Its a toss up to be fair.

Thinking the same, which is another reason I'd like to hold my wc. I won't go to Chelsea until they actually show winning ways and goals, but if and when they do, I can reconfigure to acquire a hazard or Costa, or both if necessary. Right now, it feels, ironically, like too much of a gamble.

Lukaku is as well with his next two fixtures, kind of an awkward time to maintain a 343

Yes. Agree. I guess with Kun out, there are many possible formulas for success, and we will see different combinations of front 8 amongst the members here. Kinda good.

To me, Lukaku, in lieu of Sturridge or Costa, provides a good forward option with some initial tough fixtures and also allows greater roster flexibility elsewhere. I'll still mull this over, but I'm leaning towards Romelu.

Ryan, me too. I am thinking about using my all out attack chip.

                    front 8 for me.

                    Cabaye, Mahrez, Sanchez, Mata, KDB

                    Pelle, Vardy, Lukaku

I think Leicester at Southampton is going to be a shootout. If I had a spot to bring in at midfield I would go Mane or Tadic.

I made a post in preseason about Lukaku who I thought would do well despite his hard fixtures. I think I predicted how many goals he'd score by now and wanted to see how close I was.

A brace away at Southampton, 2 goals and an assist away at Pulis' WBA team, a goal against Liverpool... They were all viewed as hard fixtures in preseason. My point wasn't really that he'd score a hatful of goals against difficult teams, more that he would still be a great option over the first quarter of the season, which he has been.

Blank against top 4 sides Chelsea and City, also a blank against top 6 side Spurs.

                  United and Arsenal next

It's easy to nitpick like that, I wasn't expecting him to score in all those games as I said before, just like most of us weren't expecting Aguero to blank against Watford, Palace and Tottenham. Of course there's much more to FPL than just fixtures but the point I was making was that they weren't as hard as people made them out to be. If we knew he'd get 7 attacking returns in the first 8 gameweeks I'm sure you would've picked him too.

Yeah but thats not how FPL works. Half of your argument was that he could do it against the really tough sides. He's yet to prove that.

They are very good sides, but obviously not top 6. Its when Everton get dominated all over the park that its an issue.

Its not just about defences Innsie. United defend well by dominating all the possession. Chelsea, City, Spurs, United, Arsenal are extremely tough games for Everton in the opening 10GW's. Liverpool as well, but then there is the whole derby thing so you never know.

    Butland,
    Dawson, Ward*, Kolarov
    Silva *, Sanchez, Mahrez, Payet
    Aguero**, Martial, Ighalo

    Schmeichel, Francis, Westwood, Richards

    2.0m in account- 1ft
    Aguero- Pelle seems a given.

Would you take a hit to improve elsewhere?

Does Caesar suffer a Grade 2 hamstring injury just as he discovers his ape-leading form, thus forcing him to sit on the sidelines for four weeks and giving the humans time to crush the simian uprising, thereby changing the course of sci-fi history?

That seems like a very large amount considering. I guess some of those will be dead teams but still seems high. It seems to me like last week was a good week for it but that obviously depends upon who was in your team prior to that week

Last weeks top 10K had 68.4% with a WC.
It drops to around 60% for those who had a bad start etc.

Between Tadic and Mane, it appears that Mane is the one more favoured by fellow FFS'ers based on the Top ranking managers. However based on recent stats I would think Tadic is due some assists/goal (similar to Aguero before his explosion).

What's the argument of Mane over Tadic?

This. Mane is a lot more direct and will also get some time in the no. 10 position.

Tadic does have pens and some other set pieces though

Mané has proven time & time again to be the superior FPL asset, there's very few midfielders who provide the open-play goal threat that Mané does.

    6. Baby Bubu
      • 9 Years

Thanks guys, appreciate your arguments. Conclusion:
Mane - no. 10, better scoring history, more open goal threat, higher price (assuming market is efficient, he's the better player).
Tadic - on pens & free kicks. So more dependent on opponents conceding them.
