International Minutes Assessed – Part Two

After rolling out Part One of our assessment of the recent internationals, we now examine the pitch time and distance travelled by those players who ply their trade for the remaining ten teams.

NEWCASTLE

With Tim Krul already a long-term absentee, Rafael Benitez was dealt a cruel blow following the season-ending knee injury suffered by Rob Elliot whilst playing for Republic of Ireland against Slovakia on Tuesday night. Chancel Mbemba and Henri Saivet will need to be assessed following long flights back to Tyneside.

Rob Elliot – Republic of Ireland (25/03 (h) v Switzerland in Dublin and 29/03 (h) v Slovakia in Dublin) – Unused substitute against Switzerland, but started against Slovakia. Suffered a serious knee injury during the first-half on Tuesday night, and has been ruled out for at least six months.

NORWICH

None of the Norwich players face long flights back, with Dieumerci Mbokani not featuring for DR Congo after being at Zaventem Airport in Brussels during the terror attacks. Alex Neil shouldn’t have too many issues as he prepares his side for the crunch home clash against fellow strugglers Newcastle on Saturday.

Martin Olsson – Sweden (24/03 (a) v Turkey in Antalya and 29/03 (h) v Czech Republic in Solna) – Was an unused substitute against Turkey, but played the full match against Czech Republic, registering an assist in the 1-1 draw.

Hoolahan came off the bench for 11 minutes in the first match, and played 73 minutes on Tuesday night.

Shane Long – Republic of Ireland (25/03 (h) v Switzerland in Dublin and 29/03 (h) v Slovakia in Dublin) – Played 84 minutes in the first match, and 45 in the second, scoring a penalty before being substituted at half-time.
Graziano Pelle – Italy (24/03 (h) v Spain in Udine and 29/03 (a) v Germany in Munich) – Only played 60 minutes against Spain.

STOKE

Mark Hughes was dealt a huge blow when Jack Butland was ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a fractured ankle during England’s friendly in Germany. SUNDERLAND

Only DeAndre Yedlin played 180 minutes over the international break among the Black Cats’ squad, so the right-back will need to be assessed when he returns, with Sunderland facing a crucial home fixture against West Brom on Saturday.

Jordan Pickford – England U21 (26/03 (a) v Switzerland in Thun) – 90 minutes.
DeAndre Yedlin – USA (26/03 (a) v Guatemala in Ciadad de Guatemala and 29/03 (h) v Guatemala in Columbus) – 180 minutes.

WATFORD

Odion Ighalo chalked up 180 minutes for Nigeria over the international break, and with their second match taking place on Tuesday, the striker will need to be assessed when he returns to the club. Juan Carlos Paredes also played late on Tuesday night, and may only arrive back at some point today.

Craig Cathcart – Northern Ireland (24/03 (a) v Wales in Cardiff and 28/03 (h) v Slovenia in Belfast) – Played the full match against Wales, and got on the scoresheet in a 1-1 draw. Also played the full 90 minutes against Slovenia.

WEST BROM

Salomon Rondon wasn’t available for Venezuela’s second match due to suspension and flew back to the midlands early as a result. That should increase the chances the striker starts against Sunderland on Saturday, while Gareth McAuley, Jonny Evans and James Chester all played their second matches on Monday night, giving them some extra recovery time.

Gareth McAuley and Jonny Evans – Northern Ireland (24/03 (a) v Wales in Cardiff and 28/03 (h) v Slovenia in Belfast) – McAuley played the full 90 minutes and Cardiff, before playing just the first-half against Slovenia. WEST HAM

Slaven Bilic will be delighted with the form Dimitri Payet showed on the international duty, while he’ll also be pleased he only played 27 minutes on Tuesday night, meaning he should be pretty fresh for the home encounter against Crystal Palace. Enner Valencia did play both matches for Ecuador though, and will need to be assessed on his return to the club.

Darren Randolph – Republic of Ireland (25/03 (h) v Switzerland in Dublin and 29/03 (h) v Slovakia in Dublin) – Played the full match against Switzerland, and 74 minutes against Slovakia after Rob Elliot suffered a serious knee injury.

Zidane and Cruyff smoked. Never made a difference to their performances on the pitch. And that's the only part that's anyone else's business.

Still can't decide whether Gabriel is worth the rotation risk or whether to splash out on Koscielny.

Bellering & Kos seems such a lot of cash in one defence, but they do seem to have the pick of the fixtures.

Does anyone think Gabriel will play all 3 games in 34/35?

    Hello Gents,

whos the best keeper with clean sheet potential just for this GW? (to replace Butland)

I'm swayed towards Adrian of West Ham!

I already have 3 Leic so cant get Schmeichel, theres question mark's over Aresanal and ManCity keepers, only other option is Chelsea, but they have been poor defensively, although Terry is back now to direct things!

Guys, I bought Butland at £4.7m, he's now £5.0m in my team and his FPL value is £5.4m.

Am I right in assuming that his drop tonight won't affect his value in my team this time around?

greetings. haven't posted or checked in here in a bit. new site looks nice. anyway, have a dilemma as do most this week i imagine, no playing keepers and will lose .1 on butland tonight. got 2 ft's and 1 million in bank so:

    a) butland > adrian, siggy > payet(c), wildcard gameweek 33

    b) butland > robles(or hennessey) keep 1 ft, then next week vardy > lukaku, alderweirld > dann, wc gameweek 34

leaning a since b only leaves me 3 dgw 33 players, just not sure who else i'd want from everton or palace

    full team
    butland mccarthy
    bertrand alderweirld williams morgan bellerin
    mahrez siggy silva alli stanislas
    aguero kane vardy

    cheers

Thanks I agree atm. West Ham got doubles and form, Mahrez and Alli have form and motivation. Pre gameweek 34 I might gun for Coutihno or Ozil if someone else dips

Leicester take a more defensive approach nowadays and Soton are a solid defence, unlikely Vardy gets more than 5-6 points imo

    From GW35 onwards

    a) Azpi, Lanzini and Sturridge

    c) Smalling, Coutinho and Defoe

A requires Kirchoff over PvA for £££

        maybe

Getting Kirchoff over PvA allows me A if Danny is fit

Getting PvA ties me to B or C, Kirchoff with either of those just frees up an extra 0.4

it's like any other week really. a forward can easily get 10 points in a favourable fixture, whereas the defender will get 6 or 7.

There's always the chance of a Benteke style haul with the forward though, but the defender is less likely.

It's harder when the teams with good DGW fixtures (arsenal/utd) have an unsettled frontline, but I still am leaning towards Ozil or Lukaku.

Going on a stag do tomorrow so need to make my transfers now! Got 1FT, 0.3 ITB and WCing next week:

    Forster
    Williams - Azpi - Huth
    Mahrez - Arnie - Eriksen - Toure
    Aguero - Kane - Vardy

    Butland* - Siggy - Francis - Kompany*

Options I can think of are:

    A) Transfer out Butland for better keeper for this week
    B) Transfer out Kompany for a better defender for this week
    C) Downgrade Kompany, do Siggy -> Payet (-4) and bench Arnie or Eriksen? I’d probably captain Payet in this scenario
    D) Wait for Toure news tomorrow and risk being too drunk to make the transfer?

    Cheers! 🙂
