The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 28

Eleven goals from the three matches – a hat-trick from a midfield differential and another double-digit return from Romelu Lukaku – with Liverpool’s attack yet to feature, Gameweek 28 looks destined to punch well above its weight.

Brought in by more than 143,000 ahead of Gameweek 28, second only to Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson among midfielders, Bournemouth’s Josh King is clearly the headline act so far.

It all started disastrously for King’s legion of new owners, with the Norwegian calmly side-footing his early spot-kick wide to register a -2 deficit.

However, he was to recover spectacularly, notching only the second hat-trick by an FPL midfielder this season, only falling short of matching Alexis Sanchez’ Gameweek 14 tally of 23-points due to his early penalty miss.

Deployed in a central striker role in recent matches, King was again played in the No 10 position behind Benik Afobe but found his route to goal nonetheless.

Incredibly, he has now produced eight goals in his last seven Gameweeks and looks an assured starter and vital source of goals for the Cherries for the remainder of the season.

The fixture list may stiffen, but King’s potential to go on providing points for a price tag of just 5.5 will surely drive an instant boom in ownership.

Already more than 10,000 have made the move ahead of the Gameweek 29 home meeting with Swansea City – only Spurs’ Harry Kane has seen more transfers since today’s 2pm deadline.

The availability such a budget midfield option, potentially playing in a striker’s role, could now raise further doubts on relying on a three-man forward line.

Southampton’s Manolo Gabbiadini will be targeted by many once he returns to action but, arguably, with such value available in midfield, there remains a strong case for the 3-5-2.

Certainly, Lukaku looks destined to remain part of our strike force, regardless of formation. He also played a key role in ensuring that the Gameweek 28 tallies will be higher than perhaps expected.

The top captain pick, with 767,000 trusting the striker with the armband, he once again proved his new reassuring level of consistency, particularly at Goodison Park.

Scoring for the fifth consecutive home outing, Lukaku produced a seventh double-figure return and, regardless of the frenzied clamour for Kane ahead of Gameweek 29, his role in our squads surely cannot be questioned.

With three of the next five at home – against Hull City, Leicester City and Burnley – Lukaku will remain locked in and will likely challenge as a captaincy contender over those matches.

While there was disappointment, with Swansea City’s Fernando Llorente failing to provide for his 378,000 new owners having limped off with a dead leg, it seems likely that Gameweek 28 could yet supply some significant scores – particularly if the Liverpool midfield can sparkle at Anfield on Sunday.

Having been flattened by the paltry returns from Manchester City’s midweek failings, Gameweek 28 has already provided unexpected fireworks with Messrs Mane, Coutinho, and perhaps Firmino, yet to take the stage to follow King’s lead.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

You have to feel sorry for anyone who went with:

    Jaku
    Funes-Mori, Baines, Brunt
    Snodgrass, Firmino, Phillips, Lanzini
    Rondon, Llorente, Barnes*

    * Burnley striker who blanks.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    Sanchez in for GWK 29?

With West Brom on their holidays already could Sanchez be back on the radar for a GWK 29 transfer?

Granted his goal yesterday was against a non league side so it is still unclear whether he or Arsenal have got over their Champions League hangover. But with a 25% ownership a traditional Sanchez away haul could be devastating for non owners.

Or is the best policy to wait and see, especially as the Gunners face a game against MCI the Gameweek after.

Or could Walcott be the solution. Arguably he looks like he cares more than the Chilean, who may well be off during the summer.

Probably best to wait and see. One goal in five against non-league opposition doesn't scream "buy me". He also seems to have drifted back out wide, with Welbeck and Giroud both back in the mix.

I think you need to be thinking about how to fit Sanchez into your squads though as I think Ars / Sot will be the next DGW for us to navigate.

Putting it that way, you could be right.

But I think Spurs assets (Kane, Alli, Eriksen) are priority and if you have spare cash/transfers move in for Sanchez.

Are we willing to go down the Walcott covers Sanchez, Pedro covers Hazard road again? The latter I think I am...

Considering it. Not sure I want to go Mane and Coutinho long term and WBA v Sanchez does appeal. I may wait two weeks with MCI next up though. Will think on it. Also alot depends on whether I wildcard ahead of the next double...or save it. If I wildcard before an Arsenal double then there's no rush to squeeze him in.

They have 3 fixtures to rearrange, but one of them will almost certainly be moved to GW34 midweek, so GW34 should still be a single game-week for Arsenal, and that only leaves them with 2 DGWs (or 1 TGW, but that is extremely unlikely).

Personally, I'd saved funds to use my FT for T. Carroll > any midfielder in the game. Thought between Pedro and Sanchez. Went finally for Sanchez after seeing yesterday's highlights. He seemed involved in most of the goals and I feel still has the drive to do well. It'll take a substitution without any reaction for me to think he's lost the appetite.

    19. Danstoke82

Absolutely yes. Have kept him through the blanks missing King's hatty yesterday but long term Alexis is worth it IMO

    20. Econ Man
        7 years, 2 months ago

Personally I'm getting him in. I think Arsenal is going to continue playing 433, and I think it might help them find some form again. Arsenal has had big issues in midfield since the injury of Cazorla. Playing Xhaka in a Pirlo role and Ramsey in a Lampard role is going to bring the best out of them. The experiment with Sanchez as a striker looks rather likely to be over, but although it feels like he plays better up top, his underlying stats are pretty much the same playing out left. Yes, he is likely to move this summer, but when he plays, you can still see he is very hungry for goals. He simply loves playing football. Playing 433 helps the Arsenal press as well, since Ozil is no longer part of the initial press. Against Bayern and Lincoln he was no longer constantly waving the team up, looking less frustrated with how Arsenal play. Actually a bigger issue might be that with Giroud in the team, Sanchez is less likely to get penalty goals. He still has two extra games though.

I think there'd be more rush for Sanchez if we all had a midfielder we wanted rid of like we are with Aguero/Llorente/Carroll.

If Mane went off injured today, then Mane to Alexis would be most people's transfer.

I sold sanchez for mane a couple of weeks & am happy to keep mane for now, as after city away liv have good fixtures.
My other mids are alli, king, siggy who have been delivering so dont want rid of them either!
After doing carroll >kane. My front 3 is lukaku/costa/kane so theres just no space for sanchez at the moment.
Things could change but am happy with my attackers for now.

My defence is a shambles with brunt/baines/holebas/. Alonso not been delivering but im willing to hang on to him so sanchez not a priority right now

Ibra>Kane this week then Carroll>Gab next week leaves me clean out of cash. I just sold Hazard to upgrade Phillips which may or may not come off. I prefer a balanced four mids of 7-8.5m price range currently Firmino, Coutinho, Siggy and Sterling.

Watching brief for me, I think Arsenal are imploding and I don't take a 5-0 against non-league opponents as any useful data.

      Mané, Sigurdsson, Carroll, King

      Gives me
      Heaton (Jaku)
      Alonso Coleman Mawson (McAuley Pieters)

      Ownership - live teams (FFX)

      Lukaku 62.8%
      King 11%

8.5% own both, 34.7% own neither.

If you have mane left to play, and your main mini league rivals have him captained.. do you still root for a big score? I'm guessing a lot of active managers will have mane either way

Had planned doing Niasse to Kane which would leave 0.0 ITB. After Niasse 12 point haul yesterday and Llorente dead leg considering doing Llorente to Kane which would at least give me 0.9 itb. Swansea have Bournemouth next though so unsure of right thing to do.

Exactly. Having got Llorente in for -4 seems wrong to ditch immediately. Also seems wrong to ditch Niasse after getting me 12 points too.

Possible. Burnley are terrible away from home. Liverpool are great at home and have a good record on a Sunday.

The flipside is 99 times out of 100 when you are relying on one player on a Sunday to deliver they don't and it is a let down.

For those not Wildcarding fr the upcoming DGW's, are your immediate transfers after GW 28 bearing these doubles in mind, or are you looking more short term?

for example I am looking for some enablers in defence and going between Stoke or Southampton Def's based on 1 and 2 DGW's respectively.

Also would it be wise to eventually move Coleman to Valencia (MUN) based on the latter having two doubles?

      Cheers all.

I wouldn't touch Saints defence, unless it's Yoshida for bench fodder. A Stoke defender and Coleman to Valencia are both sound moves.
