International Football

Which FPL players are on international duty ahead of Gameweek 1?

Fantasy managers are faced with the unusual situation of an international break taking place immediately before the start of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

A week of international fixtures got underway in midweek, with many key top-flight players in action for their nations and missing out on pre-season preparations with their clubs as a consequence.

The positive news is that only those representing European countries will be away from their clubs, as UEFA tries to play catch-up with the Nations League.

The likes of Mohamed Salah (£12.0m), Sadio Mane (£12.0m), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£12.0m), Son Heung-min (£9.0m) and Raul Jimenez (£8.5m) will be staying put, then, while those European players who are on international duty at least won’t have to endure an arduous trek back from further afield given that all Nations League matches will take place on the continent.

This article gives a club-by-club rundown on which assets will be away from their sides during this period, also detailing the dates in which these players will be competing for their respective countries.

The people who say they won't play their WC early are probably the same ones who moan about how their pre WC team did so much better when they eventually do play it. Stop overthinking, pick a team for gw1 then wildcard. You know it makes sense.

If you plan your team to be able to get In who you want in gw 2 3 4 then there's no need to play it early. Bad tactic imo. Better to use the wildcard around the Christmas period

'If you plan your team to be able to get In who you want in gw 2 3 4 then there's no need to play it early'

Lol, if only it was that simple. You can't do it without benching a fortune for gw1 and not having some potential big scorers, plus taking early hits afterwards.

I meant plan as in who you want to transfer in in gw 2 3 4 not just your starting squad. I think planning to play the wc gw 2 3 or 4 is planning to fail

      2. Wardinator
        • 8 Years

I guarantee you will not make the transfers you have planned for GW3+4, nobody ever does as there’s so much that changes.

A GW2/3 WC has a lot of merits. Your first WC is not as valuable as your second as you’re not using it in line with chips o maximise doubles, it has to be played before new year so may as well play it early to jump on the bargains and capitalise on all the price rises

      • 8 Years

When do you reckon the Manchester doubles will be put in? I can’t imagine wildcarding after GW1 barring something truly extreme.

Many ways to skin a cat. Not much upside to picking a team solely for GW1 imo, especially with a reduced fixture list. Even if I do see the merits of not having to concern yourself with maneuvering the blanks.

Late wildcards = less overthinking in my experience; only making 1-2 moves at a time rather than overhauling the entire squad is much easier. Playing the first WC in GW 20 has worked wonders for me twice in a row.

Seems to change every season. Predictions can be a bit out at the start of the season but it's an easy Google. If you have any none playing price points in your team go for the lowest ownership.

FPL state that they never reveal the formula, however sites like fpl statistics get a pretty good grasp on the formula and expected price rises/falls after the first few weeks - although there are always a few anomalies, and it seems there are sometimes some manual alterations outside the standard formula (eg a player who according to all expected algorithms should rise in price, 'magically' stays at previous price)

People got caught out on this before - when the likes of low owned Hudson-Odi's price dropped like a stone as owners jumped ship. It is cleary based on transfers out based on % ownership.
Before this the flawed logic was player is low owned his price won't drop!

That was a failed bandwagon meaning people who do a lot of transfers got him in and then got rid again. The people who start with clearly non playing players are doing it for team structure so there is no mass exodus and no price change.

Is getting Brewster in our teams a danger ? It will block Liverpool spot if he stays. Selling your 4.5 fwd is a waste of transfer down the line.

Any latest news about his loan ?

Mirror: "Brewster loan to be blocked
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp may put the block on Rhian Brewster being loaned elsewhere
for the first half of the season, according to Football Insider.

Brewster spent the second half of last season on loan at Championship side Swansea City
and caught the eye of many with his goalscoring talents.

First-team football may be limited for the 20-year-old, with the likes of Roberto Firmino and
Divock Origi ahead of him in the pecking order.

However, the report states that Klopp has now made up his mind, and he will not consider
letting Brewster leave the club on loan in the summer transfer window."

      How reliable are they .?

Everton options going to be legit contenders in my opinion. Ancelotti first full season, 2 very astute transfers in Allan and James. Can see James have a very impactful season with Ancelotti a huge fan of him.

Of course wait and see but definitely big potential imo

Yeah remember the time Koeman signed a load of no 10's for everton leaving a lopsided squad. Hard to believe he is Barca manager now.
Ancelotti is a good manager though, but everton seem to be working off high profile cast offs on thier last chance.

I think languages will be less of a concern now that half of their starting 11 all speak Portugese: Richa, Allan, Bernard, Gomes, Mina, James.

That's a tricky question, he has good opening fixtures. Promoted teams tend to do better at the start of the season and premium defenders don't look like great options in first 10 weeks so I'm definitely thinking about it. Also considering 3 premium strikers, there looks like a lot of value up top this season.

Mitro.. Lots of cheap defenders.. You need rotation options.. Unless Brewster goes to sheffield Id say Mitro

For me, 100% defender as in Doherty or VVD if you can

Fulham will be the new Norwich and Mitro can't even touch Pukki's first 5 GWs.

Only thing he gonna give is a string of yellow cards and couple of missed pens

Norwich fan and 100% agree. He was top scorer in Championship but aside from Cairney the creative quality has gone from their last season in the prem 2 years ago. They no longer play particularly open football and are just a sub-par team that will not look likely to compete this year. Unless they become the new Sheffield United they have no chance. Ayew is a better punt imo.

This is for FPL Draft. so I wasnt able to find the article which usually talks about rotating keepers. I just thought will just get a rotating keeper pair so that I don't waste free agents later for keeper swaps.

Lloris is set for the season, keeper rotation is not a good strategy

Lots fall into McCarthy trap, beside the chance of Forster's return, people tend to forget that Saint is one of the few that can concede more than 5 goals.

Their last 3 seasons goal differences are -19, -20, and -9. Unless they discover a new VVD, the trend will continue in the negative territory

Richarlison or DCL?? Have a feeling that Richarlison might have his goal contribution affected by Rodriguez but he might also benefit from more creativity if he is playing as an almost out and out second striker. I'm also slightly unsure about the rotation risk for DCL with Kean although Ancelotti does genuinely seem to rate DCL and he was in much better form than Kean last year.

I think they are bad price points with very little to recommend picking them over Mitrovic/Adans/Antonio or finding a little more for Ings or Jimenez.

Cheers for the reply, have decided DCL's price is worth taking the risk that Rich outscores him. I am quite confident in predicting that DCL will significantly outscore Mitro and Antonio. Adams is not a bad shout but is unproven in that Saints team.

    Thoughts on this team?

    McCarthy
    TAA Davies Vinagre
    Salah Auba Son Ritchie
    Werner DCL Mitro
    __
    Nyland Justin Ferguson Stephens

    1.5 itb which gives flexibility

    One transfer options:
    4.5 def to Doherty
    Ritchie to a 6.5
    Werner to Kane/Aguero/Jesus
    Son to Fernandes
    DCL to Jumenez/Ings

    And on two transfers options:
    Auba + DCL to Martial + KDB/Sterling

    Hi All,
It's time for our ML draft again (we play with the 100m cap but have a 5-team 'draft'). I'm developing my 'big board'. Starting with overall, how would you rank the top 10 players in FPL for this season. Position value plays a part but really about total points.

    I have:
    1) Bruno
    2) Salah
    3) KDB
    4) Auba
    5) Mane
    6) TAA
    7) Kane
    8) Stirling
    9) Werner (I have him > Vardy....)
    10) Son...(could be Rashford, Havertz, Ziyech, Pulisic, tough with Chelsea..)

I would love to hear how you rank them! Who is missing?

    Thanks
